Biggest game of the season and G is completely out of food in the 4th inning. After viewing Top Chef I can only surmise that poor execution is a perpetual problem…

Disappointing. I’ve had two pretty awful experiences here, and I won’t be back. I really shouldn’t have been back after the first time, but since I live in the building I thought I would come back for lunch. Big mistake. Dinner: Awful, awful, awful. My friends and I went on a Gilt City promotion. Mind you, I understand and expect that the menu will differ from the sample menu offered on the website, but the differences were astounding. The Gilt City sample menu featured a variety of dishes, including seafood(a whole bronzino!), chicken, beef, etc. So you can imagine our surprise when we arrived at the restaurant and found that 95% of the menu involved pork as the star attraction. While that might be great for some, it’s not great when ¾ of your party don’t eat pork — at all. When we pointed this out to management, they halfheartedly offered some lackluster chicken dish as an option. The food itself was awful, either too salty or lacking in salt. A total and complete waste of money, even with the«deal» from Gilt(spoiler alert: I did the math, and it wasn’t a deal). Lunch: I had their chicken parm, which was just gross. Overly breaded, fried, too-large pieces of dark meat, complete with(turkey, in my case) bacon… yuck, no thanks. It just tasted greasy and like I needed to go to the gym. A complete waste of what I felt was too much $$$. I won’t be back — I’ll stick to Kapno’s!

Over priced and super salty sub. I was super disappointed to have chosen to eat here. Totally did it cause of the Top Chef fame :/ The bread was super bready. Meaning the ratio of meat to bread was off. I ordered the chicken parm sandwich. And the sub was huge(we asked the cashier if they were shareable — she said no. That’s a lie. Totally can be shared.) They left off the cheese which was unfortunate. The sandwich had stewed dark meat chicken with tomatoes and onions.(Good but salty) and a fried chicken breast on top. The chicken breast was moist and had good flavor but was overly breaded. Since it was slightly wet with the stew, the breading was sticking to the bread. I ate the chicken and shucked the bread. I wouldn’t dine here again. Sorry Mike!

If you are looking for an over-priced super salty sanguish then this is the place for you. The fried chicken sandwich was gross – it’s a rarity for me not to finish a sandwich. Cardboard for bread and a slab of over-battered overly greasy dark meat. Yuck! The roast beef sandwich was better, but the bacon was so over-the-top and unnecessary. On the positive side, the playlist was amazing – I haven’t heard Vanilla Ice in years.

I normally go to G for the lunch sandwiches(the cauliflower sandwich is top notch), and recently tried the dinner menu. We had the charcuterie board(the zucchini fritters were excellent), mushroom starter, refreshing tuna crudo, and beef tenderloin, which had a very unique and delicious red sauce. The seasonal peach pie and zeppoles were also amazing. We definitely plan to go back and recommend any of these items. The service and atmosphere were laid back and perfect for a casual, yet refined, Friday night dinner.

This review is for the Nats Park location. I attended last night’s game and purchased a roasted cauliflower sandwich. I arrived before the game so the line was short and the sandwich was pipin’ hot when it arrived in my hands. The sandwich was a B-. The flavor had a nice zing to it, but the ‘wich had a soggy, hot, non-crunchy filling inside a delicious and large roll. The ratios were off – not quite enough filling to sustain the massive roll. The server didn’t cut my sandwich, but that may have been a good thing since it doesn’t stay together well(I don’t think they hollowed the bread before filling). Keeping the wrapper on and peeling it off as I worked my way down helped. Unfortunately, this sandwich suffers the same fate as many vegetarian options at the hands of well-intentioned but ill-informed chefs. Vegetarians need protein, just like any human being. This sandwich kept me sated for only part of the evening because it’s just veggies and bread. Adding components like beans/bean spread, cheese, or nuts improves the sandwich’s nourishment for an actual vegetarian. I’m not cheffy enough to know which of those works best with this sandwich, but Mike I. should. Two stars for a sandwich that is on the right path with flavors, but wrong delivery.

So over priced. $ 14 for an Italian hoagie is ridiculous.(Yes, the hoagie is large length wise, but there isn’t a ton of meat on it) I asked the cashier what all was on the hoagie and she didn’t even know, nor did she bother to ask. My friend had the falafel, and while she thought it was good, she also thought it was over priced Go to streets up the street for better, more reasonably priced sandwiches.

We went to «G» on a Saturday night. Made a reservation the week before for 7:45pm. Even on a rainy night, there was a vibrant, young crowd. We were seated right away, and presented our Groupon to the server(a $ 95 value). The Groupon got us a bottle of wine and a four course meal. Since we are eating pescatarian these days, the chefs created a great custom menu for us. They substituted the meat in the pasta dish for mushrooms and added burratta and fish croquettes to our mezze platter. Everything was delicious. We both ordered the peach pie, but when it was time for desert, they only had one slice left. The manager was apologetic, and soon after, the chef personally delivered two pieces of cake and one piece of pie for the two of us! One german chocolate, one blueberry, and the last slice of peach. We finished the last of our wine, gorged on desert, and left happy.

The cauliflower sandwich was perfect. I wish they served half portions though. As a vegetarian I this is the best sandwich in DC.

Arrived at G with high hopes, only to leave disappointed. The lack of a line should have been the first indicator that G was not getting it done. The pre-made sandwiches was the second. The quality was not in line with the price, even a jacked up stadium price. I had the chicken parm, and while it was a fairly large sandwich, it was very dry, lacked sauce, seasoning, and flavor, and was essentially a chicken cutlet and bread. Additionally, we read that G would have specials geared towards the team the Nats were playing(ex — cheese steaks against the Phillies), but we were either misinformed or just facing another situation where G did not meet expectations. I hope G is just going through early season growing pains, and, like the Nats, turns it around right away!

We ordered G by Mike Isabella for an office birthday lunch. Only 2 out of the 10 of us were unhappy with our food, so take my review with a grain of salt! I ordered the Suckling Pig sandwich because I saw it had good reviews on Unilocal!but when I got it, the meat was way too salty and way too tough/dry. I ended up putting ketchup on my entire sandwich to try and make it more enjoyable. I was upset that I just spent that much money on a sandwich. My other co-worker who was unhappy with his sandwich got the Kim-Fil-A sandwich, and said the chicken wasn’t good. Everyone else seemed really happy with their food… I’m not sure if I would go back, but if you’re going to try it, stay away from those two sandwiches and you might have good luck!

We’re big Nat’s fans and big fans of Ben’s Chili Bowl at National’s park. But we decided to try something different. We tried the Chicken Parmesan sandwich at Mike Isabella’s restaurant outside section 136. My husband and I decided to split the $ 14 sandwich and I’m glad I did. It’s huge. The positive? The bread. But the stuffed sandwich was dry. And it needed way more sauce. It seriously lacked flavor. Maybe more sauce would make a pre-made sandwich soggy? So serve the sandwich with a small side of Marinara sauce… for dipping? I’ll be back to Ben’s next time.

Baseball games are a prudent reminder that I’m an outlier. As I strolled down the various decks of Nationals Stadium, the social programming could not be further on display. Listening to some dumb country song that happily mitigates a woman’s existence to a pretty object at the singer’s side, watching people wave their caps in a rather unavailing form of acknowledgement towards military service, or seeing crowd dancers vie for attention from the home stadium camera felt like a barrage of punches from an invisible yet real opponent. It served as a rather captivating reminder that, in some odd sense, I was still undulating within someone or something else’s life vision. In short, it fully underscored my status as a conscious yet unrelenting prisoner within the American milieu. This programming I mention even stems towards what you eat. There is nothing more American than pairing your baseball with a good olé hot dog! So, naturally, in an obvious nod to counter-dependent decision making processes, I ordered a roasted cauliflower sandwich from a celebrity chef’s DC residence. Take that, American establishment! Or maybe how do you afford your rock and roll lifestyle… Like the previous review indicated, G is a rather horrific decision if you need any type of custom changes to your sandwich. However, I would strongly disagree with the insinuation that fault lies with the staff, disinterested and utterly ambivalent as they may be. Rather, the sandwiches are clearly premade and resting comfortably behind the service. If one has an issue with the lack of custom variety, I’d say the issue lies squarely on the managerial level. I’m on paragraph 4 and I haven’t described this sandwich. Other than telling you that I’m an extraordinarily inefficient writer, it might also indicate that I found the roasted cauliflower sandwich startling less interesting than the social panorama unfolding in front of me. Indeed, random sizes of cauliflower florets had been unceremoniously shoved within the sandwich to the extent one felt almost viscerally violated. Pairing the roasted cauliflower with a traditionally prepared romesco, on the other hand, was a genius move that pays immediate taste dividends. Assorted pickled vegetables add interesting textural balance while simultaneously providing strong vinegar notes. The sandwich is almost cut in half, but the bread has elasticity. The result is a rather sloppy yet creative sandwich with decent taste that satisfied by desire to eat something far less pedestrian than a poor version of DC’s legendary half-smoke. I’d go here again, but I’d order something that focuses on meat as opposed to slightly soggy roasted cauliflower doused in romesco. About six innings in, I walked home. Perhaps I could find a more idiosyncratic routine elsewhere.

Mike Isabella of Graffiato fame has opened an outlet at Nationals Park. While the food was average, this is still a good, albeit pricey place to eat at a Nats game given how subpar most of the food offerings are at the stadium. The menu is very limited. As of 5/20, the options included: Sandwiches: Chicken parm $ 13 Kielbasa $ 14 Italian hero $ 14 Roasted cauliflower $ 11 Snacks: Lamb chili $ 9 My friends had the Italian hero and mostly liked it. That was my first choice, but inexplicably there is mayo on the sandwich, and special requests are met with rolled eyes and a sarcastic«we don’t do that here.» Since when does any legit Italian hero have mayo on it… oil and vinegar all the way! My chicken parm sandwich was enormous. I mean it felt like a brick and could have easily weighed in close to 3 pounds. I am a big eater but I could have split it. The chicken was perfectly fried, but the sandwich was really dry and needed more cheese and marinara. It was just a ton of chicken in between bread. So, very filling, but ultimately disappointing. The staff seems to be the regular ballpark food service staff(i.e. mostly unfriendly and apathetic), so there may be limited quality control which could account for the food which is not being served at the level of other G sandwich shops in the city.
