Now, apart from the fact that there are plenty of new books to choose from, including World Bank Publications, they have the BEST selection of discount books I have ever encountered. EVER. Which, quite frankly, is the only reason it gets 5 stars.(Well, also, the people that work there are really nice). But like I said, discount books for days! And I’m one of those people that buys 6 news books even when there’s 10 at home I haven’t read yet.(Or more, at this point in my literary life). You can find great books for $ 5, $ 6& $ 7, but they aren’t the terrible leftovers you’d find at Wal-Mart. No man, there are memoirs, novels, political satires, you name it! All pretty recent(The ones I got recently were from at least the last 5 years) and very interesting. You could easily spend an hour or more there just reading the back of books trying to figure out which one(or more) you want. AND it won’t break the bank to buy 6!

The bookstore is both large and inviting. They set the air conditioning just right and the layout draws you in without being in-your-face. They actually have a decent selection in those outdoor marked down book wagons most stores have. Friendly staff completes a trip that can be either a quick come-in-buy-leave or a place where you could kill an hour.

InfoShop took my breath away. It really did. This corner bookstore is God’s greatest gift to book lovers. If you’re looking for intelligent reads, make a beeline for InfoShop. You’ll find books covering the social sciences(e.g., Madame Nhu’s(evil B) biography) as well as international fiction, cookbooks, language books, children’s books, and more here. Imagine your local bookstore minus cheesy romance novels(no Fifty Shades, sorry) and other subpar reads. For a person who’s enamored with literary voices from other parts of the world and the U.S. alike, I was so comforted to see Pearl S. Buck’s The Good Earth and Ha Jin’s Crazed on the shelf among many other great books. The well-curated selection is reason alone to come, but it gets even better – awesome prices! Once you step inside, you’ll see immediately to your right a «wall of bargains,» literally. A long shelf holds countless titles for sale, some going for as low as $ 1.00. Yup! I kid you not. Usually the junky stuff makes its way to these bargain bins first, but not at the InfoShop. I got Miral, a critically-acclaimed novel, for three bucks, and Mario Varga Illosa’s Nobel Prize-winning novel, The Real Life of Alejandro Mayta, for a few dollars more. I walked out of the bookstore, with five items, and only spent 22 bucks. Yes, really! And deals aren’t limited to the front the store. If you go towards the back, you’ll see another wall lined with shelves of international fiction, organized by region, going for very low prices, too. And then there’s an aisle devoted to bargain books, books arranged by price(under 5, under 10, etc.) Here’s the icing on the cake: You get an additional 10% off your purchase if you’re a student, an educator, an NGO employee, or a government worker. That pretty much sums up everyone in the immediate area. Anyway, even if you don’t fall into any of those groups, InfoShop is a must visit.

I love that this place is super handy for foreigners and for travelers. If you are flying to a foreign land and need to brush up on the local language, you should check this place out. For me it was french and I found a nifty french for dummies(ummm correct) kinda pocket book. The staff is also quite helpful. They have chairs and sofas dotting the bookstore so you don’t have feel like you need to find a book and get out. Take your time!

This place is awesome! Almost(maybe all) nonfiction, much of it is remaindered books that are discounted, around 50% off. I was tired after a long week so I didn’t spend nearly as much time here as I wanted to, but they had a lot of great books. They were especially strong on asia/africa books and also had world bank souvenirs and if you need a little country flag they have those, too! The staff was very nice but not snotty. I read a lot and go to a lot of bookstores and some tend to have people working there who give off a certain aloof, «I’m better than you» vibe(sorry). Maybe this was because it was slightly different from a regular bookstore, but whatever the reason, I liked it.

This place is just wonderful. I came across it by accident while walking down the street; «A bookstore? With flags and all kinds of International and business-type books?» I was hooked. The store is on the corner of the street. A nondescript entrance and signage that doesn’t advertise enough what the place is. It looks like an international type of place. Some place diplomats or anyone with a political interest would go. It surely has that clientele. The bookstore entrance offers free literature. Good stuff that is hard-to-believe-its’-free good. Inside are a variety of interesting and compelling books for those interested in the topics; mostly about subjects covering global or international issues with a lot about addressing problems in these global communities. Many books are specific on subjects related to said issues so you really have to be compelled to read them. There’s quite a bit about Africa fwiw, so if I ever wanted to become an expert of African-affairs, I could come here. The aisles feature books about things like politics, business, engineering, art, even cookbooks all with a global slant. There are also quite a few books about management, personal and professional development as well as books about intellectual studies, principals ideals, and theories. You can really delve into some heady topics here with relaxing Latin music playing in the background and a small yet comfy lounge area in the back.(Where you can find an outlet or two to charge your phone). There are books for as low as $ 2 of which I bought 3, and a variety of books on learning and speaking different languages. Overall this is just a great place. At a time where bookstores are becoming extinct, this place is a welcome find. Yes it’s rather specific in what it offers, but what it does have is compelling enough to have me coming back.

This might be the best bookstore in DC… granted you wont find everything, but you will find a well-chosen selection of novels and international/development non-fiction. No crap chick-lit in here. Thank god! Also, when i was in about 2 weeks ago, nearly everything was marked below retail price, making it cheaper than amazon. Wish they were open on weekends… but, still, you guys should check this place out, it’s a refreshing bookstore.
