The definitive«pre-game» spot for the college students and a perfect place to start the night and get more than your money’s worth in alcohol. For $ 10, you get a stamp on your hand and an «Open Bar»(with lots of restrictions) between 9pm-11pm. My group easily had about 5 rounds of gin&tonics/vodka-sodas, but the place is small and packed, and getting drinks can be quite difficult once the crowd rolls in. The environment is very much catered towards the college crowd, and fits in perfectly with the Adams Morgan vibe. Two stories, «chest-to-chest»(/JasonDerulo) packed, and lots of club-like energy. Also, the DJ here on a Friday night was awesome– don’t know his name, but he took songs on request, and didn’t ignore any as long as he had the song. I requested California Love by Tupac and it was on within 5 minutes. If you’re hitting Adams Morgan for the night, stop by early, take full advantage of the Open Bar, and jam to your favorite songs before hitting the clubs.

I’ve only been on weekends but the open bar special is a great day and the place always heats up Friday/Saturday nights. Tends to get very crowded but music is good, they take requests, and bartenders are very friendly.

This bar is a complete waste for the American economy. Not only are they the trashiest bar on the block, but they also have zero knowledge of how to interact with other people. Their liquor license should be suspended promptly, and their owners should be informed about how much business they seem to just willingly poured down the drain. Not only do they not care about their willing customers, they do not care about their customers’ safety. They should be banished from the D.C. night life, or at least go bankrupt. I predict the latter will be happening any day now. If you care about the safety of women at all, do not financially support this bar in any way, shape, or form.

Most racist bar I have ever been to. I was quickly made to feel that my kind were not welcome. The bartender chose to serve everyone around me then go joke with his coworker before coming back and pointing at me like now what the hell do you want. At first I thought this guy must just really be bad at his job or maybe he just didn’t see my 6’5200 pound frame hard to believe because I’m usually the tallest guy in the room. Once he finally made my drink can you believe I still tipped this guy two dollars since he looked like the type to prejudge and assume that based on my race he wouldn’t be getting one anyway. He just snatched the money out my hand and threw it in the tip bucket and turned to serve someone else no thank you no nothing. I went down stairs to rejoin my girlfriend but the poor service I received really left a bad taste in my mouth but after explaining what happened to my girlfriend she said she had to see this for herself. So after we finished our first round of Friday night open bar drinks which might I add sucked we went back upstairs for another round to see if I was wrong about this guy I always want to give the benefit of the doubt that maybe he really didn’t see me. But low and behold he does the exact same thing again pointing at every white face around me promptly taking there orders as they walked up to the bar as I still waited to be noticed. Me being a bartender as well in Adams Morgan I now the worst thing you can do is to wave cash around and yell bartender to get noticed so I wait and wait some more for him to joke around and laugh with his coworker. My girlfriend had seen enough and she said lets get out of here. I paid for the open bar on a Friday night which was $ 10 all you can drink per person from 9 to 11 needless to say we had one round a piece at $ 10 just about the going rate for most cocktails in Adams Morgan so we didn’t take to much of a loss but one thing for sure two things for certain we will never be returning to Shenanigans for another round of their racist bigoted shenanigans I urge people of color to take your money elsewhere we are not wanted or respected there.

When my Goddaughter said«Hey Mama Kat, let’s do Happy Hour», I’m always game, as we always have good times. I was a little hesitant due to the Beer theme on the internet, yet I’m always opened for a new excursion. My chariot of Metro was a quick journey from the office, until the operator said«We will not be stopping at Woodley Park», so I had to get off at Cleveland & wait for the next train. Once that transpired, I ended up at WP/AM & went to hail my Über. To make sure my eyes were not playing tricks on me, I did the estimating twice as it read«30-$ 40» for a 1.2 mile ride, child please, not for me. So I opted to walk, & after a chilly & brisk 10 minute trek, I had arrived to the little Irish(Dive) Bar. This place is tagged as DC’s longest Happy Hour from 2pm-9pm. Our arrival was around 7pm, so we had enough time if we decided to stay longer. I already knew in the back of my mind that they wouldn’t have Malbec(I was right), so I settled for a Cabernet Sauvignon. I appreciate Gail, the Tatted Bartender in offering me a wine glass, but I dumped into a plastic cup & with my signature bar straw, I sipped on my wine. Even though we among maybe 10 people at the time, Gail was pretty cool in making sure we were taken care of. The crew enjoyably slammed down a few rounds of their choice cocktails, we chatted for a few & we were out. I would have possibly been back for the Open Bar experience, but could only imagine the extreme level of intoxication of the masses in a small space… perhaps the upstairs is more spacious. Hence, I’m sure many people have enjoyed the Open Bar 9pm-11pm for $ 10…do enjoy for me. There is only one restroom for Guys & Gal which was very tight to get in & out, yet it was as clean as it needed to be for this one of kind bar/pub. Thanks Tatted Gail for making my 1st visit A-OK!

This place will provide your GI tract with Shenanigans. Let me explain. 4 of us went there on Sunday night. Pretty quiet. The bouncer was pleasant, and actually helped us get our drinks. Although he made fun of us for only ordering 2 drinks for 4 guys. He only had 2 hands, so the drinks came in 2 trips in his 2 hands(4 drinks). We were all confused. We ordered food from the bartender who seemed pretty irritated that we existed and were in the bar he was running. 3 pork sandwiches with a burger, and a bacon cheese burger. The pork sandwiches arrived without the burger. But, OK, we still ate it. We probably got billed for the more expensive meal, but Oh well. And this is Sunday, and we are literally a quarter of the people in the bar, I think we are old enough to drink out of glasses instead of plastic cups. Guinness came in a glass, everything else, in a plastic cup. The tater tots were spot on, and a good portion too. That was nice. However, the aftereffects of this meal are still hitting 3 of us that had the pulled pork. I was awakened at 3am with a bodily challenge to see how fast I could get to the bathroom before I hurled. This was followed up with a 8am sprint to find out how fast I could get to the toilet. I checked in with my other 3 friends, and they all had the same issue. Dive bar? Yep. Annoy a bartender by spending money at his establishment? Yep. Good tater tots? Yep. Go here to start your cleanse? Yep. Pulled pork? DANGER!

I went here on a Saturday night with a group of friends even though I knew better(I’m actually a little bit embarrassed to even write a review). I was even more turned off when the bouncer didn’t let in the three black men in front of us because he didn’t like the look of their jeans or the bandanas that they were wearing. There isn’t much Irish about this place and it isn’t really a dive bar on a Saturday night, more like a really low grade dance club for the post college set. They had a happy hour which was all you can drink for $ 10 from 9 – 11 and then from 11:00 — 11:30 all rail drinks were $ 1(which was better than the happy hour deal was). As you can imagine, the level of inebriation was really high. The place was really too crowded to dance and felt claustrophobic. The back room had a couple of college football games on. Drinks were cheap and nothing special. Music was well known dance hits. I’m just too old for this scene but they can have a second star for cheap drinks.

I wish I could give this place more stars. I love a good dive bar, and it’s been tough to find one in DC. I thought this might be an interesting, quirky spot, but was disappointed. Irish themed bar, which is always fun. Good music, weird décor. Terrible service. My friends and I were the only group in the entire place. There were 3 staff members on. Nobody moved a muscle to help us until we approached them after a few minutes. We all ordered 1 round– basic beers and mixed drinks. Bartender couldn’t get it right and grumbled about splitting the tab. We ordered a couple food items, which were delicious. Great bar food. Took a while to get out. Probably won’t be back.

Fun crowd, cheap drinks, good music, friendly bartenders! You must stop in on Friday or Saturday– they do an all you can drink happy hour from 9 – 11, and dollar drink specials after that. This bar is what’s up!

Great if you want a cheap, trashy place that is filled with 19 year olds. Definitely a dive bar, which I usually really like, but I’m too young to feel that old when I go on a weekend

So much fun! Can’t say a bad thing! If you’re looking for a good time, some cheap but well made drinks, super fun sing alone classic mix 107.3 style music, and laid back people who like to party you’ve come to the right place!

My girlfriends and I came in on a late Monday night not too long before closing. Out bartender, Gill, was exceptional. He was friendly, witty and super efficient. I also have to give him extra credit for dealing with a few of us who had more than several beverages before coming in(you know how ladies nights can be ;)) He even turned up the music for me since I paid to play several songs on the modern jukebox. Nothing negative to say what so ever. Thanks so much for taking great care of us and we’ll definitely visit again soon!

Staff wasn’t friendly at all and the bar itself is tiny and leaves much to desire. Wouldn’t recommend to anyone.

Came in for a Guinness on a Sunday afternoon. Expected a decent pint given the name of the place, but it was poured like any other beer. The heavy set bartender with the beard was not the friendliest of guys either.

Have you ever walked into a place and thought, «gosh, I feel really old»? To the left you have some guy basically swallowing a girl’s face. To the right you have three dudes in a chugging contest. In front of you you’ve got several twenty-somethings grinding all over each other like a really bad middle school dance. (and, on that note, since when did grinding come back?!) Behind you are the stairs and your best instincts tell you«Damian, it’s time to go.» Ugh, to be a grown-up. But they have decent music, nice bartenders, a functioning, although questionable, bathroom and, best of all, cheap drinks. Pretty fun, I can dig those things. I guess sometimes a blast to the past is a bit refreshing.

Could this be the second Madhatter in terms of nightlife? Maybe slightly more tame but similar crowds of raunchy and at times obnoxious college kids and 20-somethings come to grind on each other. Of course expect cheap drinks in small plastic cups to be spilt on you,(ladies) expect some bearded and weird dude to try to grind on you, and expect a strange mix of 90’s pop and today’s top 40. Good times can absolutely be had if you’re merely looking for some casual(and alcohol-fueled) fun on a Friday night with people you don’t give a damn about getting silly/trashed with. I remain indifferent to bars like this. First came here last October when a friend informed me about the $ 10 two-hour open bar on Fridays; I may return in the future on a nonchalant and mindless stroll down this 18th Street strip on a Friday night.

Shenanigans is, embarrassingly, one of my favorite bars in DC, but I love dive bars so this is my kind of place. Pros: –Really cheap drinks including $ 10 two hour open bar from 9 – 11 every Friday and Saturday. Then $ 1 rails from 11 – 11:30. –The staff is quick and are all really good guys. I have sat down and had interesting conversations with almost all of them. –They play really good music here. I am sure there are people that disagree with that, but you will know every word to every song they play, which is what I am looking for at an open bar on a Friday night. — The $ 1 tacos they offer on Thursdays and Fridays are definitely worth at least $ 1! — It is a dirty divey bar Cons: — It is a dirty divey bar, if you don’t like that. –There isn’t that many seating options, so I wouldn’t plan on coming here with more than four people if you plan on having a sit down dinner. Also this isn’t really a sit down dinner type of a place. –There is exactly one bartender who always works upstairs on Fridays and Saturdays(dark hair, goatee) that always seems to be in a bad mood. Every time I go I try to avoid him, but inevitably have to order at least one drink from him. He always seems annoyed to have to make a drink, or yell at you if you try to order more than one drink even when it is obviously for the person next to you(I understand there is a one drink per person rule), or give you a pitcher without any cups. A lot of small stuff, but just a bad attitude. Plus everyone else here is so laid back and nice I think it really makes him stand out. I recommend everyone who like a good dive bar come here at least once and try the open bar. I have been a lot and it is always a good start to the night.
