Koobideh pizza my friends. In hearing the location has closed. I will find it because I can’t imagine why! Service and food were excellent!

I love, love, love Persian food and Tash satisfies that craving. They offer some superb vegetarian dishes and seafood dishes as well as meaty ones. So, bring all your picky friends! The Gheymeh(eggplant) stew is to die for. Our waitress told us it’s a typical Persian dish. Jeff and I shared that and the garlic shrimp and the 3 dip appetizer. Everything was amazing, even the rice! My mouth is watering just thinking about Tash. I want to go back ASAP.

My best friend from about fourth grade to about ninth grade was Persian, and then his family moved away. That means that I occasionally ate some Persian home-cooking when I was a kid. I don’t remember much about it, besides some aromatic rice dishes, but it must have been quite good because I do recall cleaning some plates – and I was a picky eater back then for damn sure. As an adult with an ever-widening palate, though, I’ve always wanted to check out Persian food again.(Honestly, I don’t know jacksquat about the cuisine.) But opportunities to do so have been very few. Over the last few decades – blame it on terrible Iran-US relations, whatever – there just haven’t been many Persian restaurants outside of big cities with sizeable Persian communities. Tash was a few blocks from where we were staying in DC, and checking it out seemed like a no-brainer. Frankly, the menu itself wasn’t all that interesting superficially, at least not if you’re experienced with Mediterranean and Middle Eastern food, which we love: A lot of kebabs and other grilled meat dishes quite similar to what you might get in a Lebanese or Turkish restaurant, with some Persian twists. But Tash’s execution of this stuff was terrific. We ordered mirza as an appetizer – it was much like an excellent babaghanoush, but with a healthy ratio of tomato, and served with piping hot delicious pita, sort of a cross between pita and naan. Spicy lamb kubideh was very similar to the adana kebab you’d see in a Turkish restaurant. But it was delicious: really boldly flavored and succulent. It was served with a big pile of aromatic(dill-heavy) rice and a really good minced salad that was very tabbouleh-like. Prices might seem somewhat high for relatively simple food, but you’re paying for big portions done right, somewhat high-end atmosphere(sort of a generic, but very pleasant and comfortable, urban dining-and-bar set-up), and very good service. If Tash did not provide me any revelations about Persian cuisine, it delivered a solid and satisfying dining experience.

This Persian/Iranian joint is a delicious stop while out on Barracks Row. We selected Tash predominantly because of their open outdoor seating, but also because I’m a fanatic for some good hummus and lamb. I had the spicy lamb kubideh while my wife had the lamb flatbread(which reads 6-slice pizza with a middle-eastern flair). We also ordered a side order of hummus because as I already mentioned, me = sucker for smashed chickpeas. Now, onto the food. The food was great. I preferred the kubideh over the flatbread because the rice and cous cous additions were fantastic. I’m not quite sure what spice they added to the rice, but I dig it. I could eat it an entire plateful of the stuff all by itself. The hummus was also great. It is served with a warm pita bread in a fancy boot-shaped holder. I only wished I had a little more pita to scoop up all that delicious hummus. Lastly, the service was very friendly and hospitable. The server checked in on us regularly and made sure our waters never ran dry(which I appreciated since they gave us small glasses). In an area with so many appealing restaurants, one could get easily become overwhelmed. Fear not if you choose Tash… your tastebuds will be in good hands.

I was looking forward to this place based on the reviews here and word of mouth. It did not meet expectations. I had the salmon and rice. The salmon was bland, smelled a little off, and was over cooked. The rice tasted like it had been soaked in butter and I couldn’t detect much other flavor schemes going on. No, I won’t be back. Lebanese Taverna is better. And why oh why did they close my Neyla? Smh. So disappointed.

My husband and I were lucky enough to score out door seating here, wich was amaze balls 4000. We started with some hummus and bread, then moved onto the Spicy lamb flat bread and the spicy lamb kubideh. I liked both dishes, although the flat bread was more like a pizza than anything else. I admit, I haven’t had flatbread before. So maybe all you experienced foodies are thinking«Duh!», but I wanted to let the others like me out there know. Still good, just different from what I expected. The Kubidheah dish was great. The cous cous salad and rice were fantastic. The one thing that really stood out to me all night was the great presentation of both the restaurant itself and the food. It was all so beautiful that I almost didn’t want to eat it. But who am I kidding? I shoveled it into my face as quickly as a proper lady could. If I lived in DC, I would go back and try their mojitos. I didn’t because I sat outside and missed the fresh fruit that I assume is used to make them at the bar. I only saw it late in the game when I went to the bathroom post-paying the check. Great experience overall. GOTASH!

This place definitely deserve all 5 stars! Amazing service, the restaurant is in a beautiful location with outside seating and their food was goooooood! We started out trying their dip sample appetizer and 3 of the 4 dips that came out were made of eggplant and the last was hummus. All very delicious with their freshly baked bread! The most amazing bread I’ve had in a long time. We ordered their saffron chicken, chicken kubideh and veggie platter as the main course. Their presentation is very nice with the dishes served on tall silver plates, they reminded me of cake holders. They were portioned right, I’ve noticed at a lot of other Persian restaurants they fill the plate up with a lot of rice, but this place has the perfect amount of meat, rice and it seemed like a coos coos salad on the side. The lemon sauce that came out with their veggie platter was absolutely AMAZING!!! The night ended with a nice big bowl of their bastani… Nom nom nom… Huge pieces of pistachio made it that much better :) I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the Persian music in the background was a definite plus :) Their service was amazing! At one point I told my table that we should ask for more bread and all of a sudden the waiter that was serving another table dropped some off! He over heard me and jumped to it! I CANNOT wait to go back and try their other dishes :)

This restaurant has been on my list for a very long time. I finally decided to try it out. We went on a Sunday for brunch and as it was a beautiful sunny day out, we decided to sit outside and eat some delicious food while enjoying the weather. Due to my previous persian/iranian food experiences, i had a made a presumption on the taste and quality of food i will be having but i was absolutely wrong. This food blew me away. I was surprised and delighted as to how good Tash is. The establishment is beautifully designed from the inside and illuminates a feeling of coziness and uplifting moods. To add to that, the exquisite taste of the food and extraordinary service and you have a restaurant that is a gem in a haystack. What i find makes a restaurant as such enhance the experience is having the perfect company to enjoy it with. We started with the appetizer sampler which included Hummus, Olive Dip, Baba Ganoush and Mirza fused with warm soft bread. Our Main course was the Fire Grilled Vegetables which included Potatoes, Eggplant, Zucchini grilled to perfection with Saffron Rice. As well as Beef Kubideh and Eggs, which included Hand chopped Angus seasoned with onion, spices/two sunny side up eggs/grilled tomato/hummus. As me and my company both have a sweet tooth, for dessert we went with Bastani, which is a Slow churned vanilla ice cream made with chunks of cream, pistachios, hints of saffron and rose water sprinkled with Pistachios. Overall, we were both very well satisfied with the food, drinks and the experience. Tash has earned it’s well deserved 5 star rating. I will certainly be back for more.

Tried this place with my bf on date night. Great low key atmosphere that works for both big and small parties. I ordered the chicken Kubideh which comes with tabbouleh and saffron rice. I generally don’t have high hopes for chicken but this was very flavorful and cooked perfectly. That acidity of the tabbouleh balanced nicely with the rich spices and my only complaint is that I wish there was more tabbouleh. My portion was maybe an ice cream scoop size while my bf’s portion was twice that(good thing he didn’t like his as much because I ate all of his serving!). For the price point, this is a really good place to eat.

Just wanted to provide an update on the dining-in experience that we had this past weekend. I gave the delivery rave reviews, and I feel the same way about eating in the restaurant itself! My husband and I arrived at around 7 on a Saturday night. We didn’t have a reservation(they don’t do Open Table, but you can give them a call), but they weren’t super packed. They seated us instantly. They had a large selection of wines by the glass and bottle, and were different price ranges. I was really happy with their selection. Our server was very attentive, and provided some great recommendations when they were out of the olive dip. We instead got the baba ganoush, but to our surprise, received an olive dip on the house. Apparently right after our server said they were out, they had just finished whipping up a fresh batch. The baba ganoush was good, but the olive dip was GREAT! The baba ganoush had a nice smokey flavor, and you could really taste the olive oil mixed it. It was really good, but the olive dip was more my jam. It was so delicious and savory — the tomatoes and garlic just really pulled it all together. I honestly could have eaten it out of the bowl with a spoon. They also served fresh pita. Don’t be afraid to ask for more pita — they will bring it to you one at a time so that it stays warm. Amazing! We both got the chicken kubideh again, and it was still just as good. We had enough for leftovers for lunch the next day. As we were wrapping up dinner, the place was starting to really fill up. I’m glad that we went early! All in all, we were not disappointed, and will certainly be back. Another great option in Barrack’s Row that was reasonably priced.

First they are awesome. Second the food is amazing. Third the service is usually smooth and lastly there are groupons or living social for this place. I have been here as a full paying customer and on coupon and each time they still have great service. I have tried a little bit of everything from steak and eggs, lamb and eggs, chicken wings, salmon salad, and flatbread. It is all so very yummy and is my breakfast/brunch spot on the weekends. Check it out. The only con is the iced teas are not free refills but cmon for great food who really cares.

I was very excited to try this place but honestly I was a bit disappointed. I think it is a unique restaurant especially on that block but for a Persian restaurant? it had a few shortcomings! Let me begin with the cocktails! Our cuisine(Iranian cuisine) is not known for its exotic cocktails, not the least! So mixing any alcohol with pomegranate liquor does not make the cocktail by any means Iranian! We have been known for making sour cherry infused vodka(homemade, of course) but the one that TASH serves is just not good. The real sour cherry infused vodka is supposed to be made with fresh, plump sour cherries. Oh how unfortunate that they had tried making it with dried sour cherries. The result? something so salty! We thought we were given shots to try, but surely enough we were charged 10 bucks a pop! The prices are a bit high for the quality of the food that they serve, especially their main dishes. The lamb chops are served with the dill and fava bean rice, but it had maybe 2 or 3 fava beans in the entire serving. The rice was cooked poorly. Supposedly, the rice is the pith of the Iranian cuisine and these guys just didn’t get it right(comparing it to the fava bean rice that they serve at Yekta, Rockville, MD, TASH needs some work to do!). I ordered the«Gheyme bademjan» which is a quintessential Iranian dish, and we don’t usually kid with this and make it vegetarian! Where was the meat in my dish? It was very tasty but meatless! No, please, no! However, good portion and the white rice served with this was better. The appetizers were great. The babaganoush was tasty(but this of course is not an Iranian dish) and the Mirza, tasted decent(but lacked one major ingredient, so not authentic). They were nice enough to give us one free ice cream for desert(I think after sensing that our experience had been a bit underwhelming), which was very pleasant. Their Bamieh(which is the Iranian equivalent of beignets) was too eggy-tasting, though it was cool that they served it warm. Do not pass on the tea after the dinner; stick with the tradition! The staff were nice and attentive. The place has a very creative interior decoration and it has a welcoming vibe. Hmm… I don’t know if I would give this place another shot. Still thinking about it…

I visited Tash House of Kabob with a friend last week and enjoyed the experience. Though not my favorite Persian restaurant(and I am still on my quest to find an amazing and authentic Persian restaurant in the DC area), I think it’s a very decent place in DC. It’s located in the Eastern Market neighborhood(near Capitol Hill) and I believe it opened somewhat recently. I ordered the classic Beef Kubideh(Hand chopped Angus steak/Onion/Mixed spices/Saffron rice) and really enjoyed it. I substituted the rice with Salad Shirazi, which was fresh and innovative. My friend ordered the Gheymeh Lamb Shank(Braised Lamb shank /Yellow split pea/Dry lime/Tomato Sauce/Saffron Rice) and she really enjoyed it. The food was pretty delicious and filling. I also really like the atmosphere — it’s modern and chic, but it also has that magical Middle Eastern vibe to it. This Persian girl was quite impressed :)

When you walk in, you can’t help but notice how sleek, unique, and modern this place looks, while still keeping an unmistakable middle eastern vibe. Very nice. I especially love that exposed wood on the bar. We came for lunch and tried the chicken and waffles. I was not expecting to see that on a middle eastern menu, but they nailed it. The chicken was moist and flavorful, and the waffle was as pillowy as a cloud in heaven. They tasted like a dream both on their own or mashed into one unholy bite together. We also got a kebob dish. The meat itself is tasty and seasoned nicely. It was served on top of a giant piece of pita instead of a plate with a side of pita — interesting. The kebab was in one area, with a large dollop of hummus in the other. Unfortunately, the hummus was not good. We were surprised given how good everything else was. We speculated that it might have needed a much heavier dose of olive oil. Whatever the culprit, as a huge fan of hummus, I was disappointed. Thankfully, the hummus was the only hiccup. I’m saving the appetizer for last, but that is no sign of ita quality. The corn salad is absolutely worth a try. It is very simple, mostly corn with some accompaniment and a light lemon dressing, but it is good. Plus, it tastes as fresh and natural as something this simple should. For me, that’s how I want to start my meals. All in all, it’s 3.75 stars and a home run hummus away from bursting up near the 5 mark. I should also add, while others have expressed concerns over service, they were speedy and all smiles for us(though we were one of two tables there when we went, since it was in that awkward space between the normal lunch and dinner hours). Still, we were satisfied on the service front.

TASH has become one of my new hang-out places on Capitol Hill. While I live in Georgetown it is only a couple minutes walk from the Capitol Hill Metro Station near Eastern Market. It’s a mix of Iranian and Middle Eastern food — kabobs, stews, grilled meats and veggies, — and it’s all great. The kebabs(lamb, chicken, beef, shrimp and salmon) are fire grilled, spicy and delicious. The lamb shank stew is awesome and the sturgeon is to die for. Appetizers are excellent — the usual Meddle Eastern Overall, the chef is just money here. Prices are moderate — the flat bread’s range from $ 9.95 to $ 11.95 and they are hearty enough to constitute a full entrée. Dinner entrees range from $ 11.95 to $ 20.00 and portions are huge. TASH also has a daily happy hour and drink specials and a wide range of «specialty drinks» as well as a full bar so you can choose your poison. A very well designed interior is complemented by sidewalk café outside. Staff is friendly. In all my dealings with every one of the staff, they are not only personable but everyone seems to out to make your visit to TASH one that you will go home and say«Wow, that was really nice wasn’t it?» Amir, I’m not sure what his official position is –aside from looking cute in pair jeans; makes sure everything runs smoothly and that you are well taken care of. If you are looking for a nice first date spot. A place that is friendly, competent, and has food that simply can’t be beat. I cannot recommend TASH enough.

I love me some Persian food and I love me some Eastern Market! Tash is located on Barracks row, which is a nice little strip of restaurants that range from Mediterranean to classic American. The hummus is terrific, one of the best ones I’ve had in town(I’ve had plenty, due to my obsession with Middle Eastern food). Their drinks are great also– strong and tasty. I chose to have the spicy lamb, which is served with rice and vegetables. It was delicious. The place is trendy and the atmosphere is great. Definitely a fan!

This is the classiest iranian resturant we have in DCVA area. The Devore is casual but very clean. Wooden table and chairs. The food is so so good, with great presentation. Amir our server is so polite and helpful. Very family friendly. My kids had so much fun drawing on the wall that is painted with Black board paint, Amire gave them some chalk. The food is so so good! Did I say that already!!!

Venturing out of northwest DC into the Capitol Hill area of northeast, I stumbled upon an Iranian restaurant with a lot of flare. Tash fuses American, Iranian, and Middle Eastern cultures into a unique style of cuisine. From the outside, its orange brick and orange chairs bring about feelings of warmth and as you step inside, the same feeling is transferred with warm, dark wood booths and walls accented with sparkly orange ceiling lamps and funky stone tiling. We walked in on a busy Saturday night without reservations and had a 20-minute wait or so before we were seated in a nice booth near the bar. We started with cocktails. I ordered the Beerbourbon sour, which was delightful. It had whiskey, lemon juice, marmalade, bitters, Triple Sec, and white ale. I noticed that there was only one menu item marked vegan so I inquired about the other items that appeared to be vegan. There are actually several appetizers that are vegan like the olive dip, hummus, baba ganoush, and mirza(eggplant) so we started with the hummus. It only came with one large piece of bread. I’d say the hummus was very good and the bread was excellent as well. You could really tell that the flatbread was baked in a charcoal fire brick grill as you could taste that authentic firey crispness. For my entrée, I ordered the one item marked as vegan — the Gheymeh Eggplant. This stew was made up of yellow split peas that surrounded oily eggplant in a tomato sauce. It was bursting with flavor(and oil) and was very good. My only complaint is that the saffron rice it normally comes with is cooked with butter so it isn’t vegan. Why do they point out that this is a vegan dish with saffron rice if the rice isn’t vegan? They gave me flatbread instead, which I was happy with. My friend ordered the Fire Grilled Vegetables, which can also be made vegan. It was just vegetables and rice(again not vegan), but these vegetables were grilled in such a way that they too were bursting with flavor. There was zucchini, eggplant, and potatoes. Besides being incredibly oily, they were excellent. So all in all, for a place I didn’t research ahead of time, I thought we stumbled upon some pretty good food. The service was a bit slow as they were very busy, but the drinks and food made up for that. The stew was only $ 8 while the vegetable dish was only $ 12 so the prices were on the low end, in my opinion. I just hope in the future, they label the rice as not vegan and label all vegan items as vegan.

Dimly lit with exposed wood, mosaic, and a sleek bar, Tash offers delicious, affordable food and drink in an attractive setting. Tash is in an accessible location with friendly service. I like to start with the eggplant dip, mirza, which is quite tasty and served with some of the best bread of I’ve ever had. My two entrees have been the fire grilled vegetables and the chicken kubideh, both served with rice. I love the mixed veggies – very flavorful and you will not even miss the meat. Chicken kubideh was good, but a bit dry. Portions are huge, so you’ll have leftovers. I’d like to try a lamb dish and possibly dessert next time. The wine list is nice and I’ve had a cocktail there before, which was well-made. Tash is a great addition to Barracks Row.
