Always a great meal and a square deal. Breakfasts are amazing –try the chicken sausage and yummy potatoes– and lunches are comfort. Better yet, it’s a mellow vibe for catching up with friends, or a peaceful meal for one.

I really love it here. I had. an early breakfast with 2 friends. Wonderfully friendly serve! I enjoyed what I ordered: veggie scramble, toast, and home fries. Delicious! The café au lait was really good, too. I can’t wait to go back!

Coming to DC from NYC, I miss good bagels. The bagel and lox at U St Café is as close to the real deal as I’ve had in this city. The service is super friendly; and the food comes out fast. The waffles also hit the spot. It’d be great if they worked on the quality of the coffee and stayed open longer. However, good people + good waffles + good bagels + WIFI = can’t lose!

I’ve been a patron of U St Café for about three or four years now. I’ve never been disappointed with a sandwich or drink. The staff is always friendly and the food is always fresh. I’d also so much rather support a local business than one of the seemingly endless chains on U and 14th that are putting so many locally owned places underwater. My favorites are the turkey BLT and the dirty chai lattes.

Very average food. Breakfast sandwich sausage was not very tasty, and eggs are just OK. Had a good omelet here once, and coffee is OK.

My friend and I came for coffee/tea and a study session. The atmosphere was great, chill and cleanly. The staff was friendly, but the best part was the spiced Chi Tea Latte! By far the best Chi Tea I have had to date. I look forward to my next visit!

Food can be hit or miss but the staff is friendly and welcoming, so I will continue to be a regular. I love the dirty chai and the breakfast sandwich. I also treated myself to a waffle one time and it was delicious.

I really want this café to be my neighborhood coffee spot but they still have work to do. They don’t always open on time(7 am) on weekdays, which would be great if they did for early DC workers. I don’t get a friendly vibe there, more like I’m a burden if I come in to stay and eat longer than 10 minutes. Their barista today wasn’t personal. I don’t expect baristas to be happy, but just to not be a robot would be nice. They didn’t help me find silverware. I felt like I was in an installation piece. A lot of simple changes could make this place thrive. Back to the Starbucks across the street…

I came here this morning and the food was decent. I had a breakfast sandwich and it was decent. I could make this at home. So they get three stars for food. I would come back because it is convenient and quick. In the middle of my meal i saw the barista/server drop the tong on the ground, say something like dang it, pick it up, and then put it back up on the counter. Not a few minutes later those tongs were used to serve more of the pastries. At that point you might as well use your hands. BUT then i saw the same person pick their teeth at the cash register and then later serve food. Who knows at this point if they washed their hands. Point being… Won’t be coming back…

If you are looking for basic food, you’re in a hurry, or if enjoying the experience of eating a meal w/friends is NOT important this is the place to come. It’s a no frills kinda place. Quality of the food is low level though it will satisfy the palate. I will come back when I’m pressed for time and need something to get to the bottom of my belly.

I want to like this place. Nice feel, good prices, good menu, but their coffee is crap. Please, come on. You are a café. Get better coffee. Threw away the first cup I got and walked across the street. 2nd time got a coffee au lait thinking maybe just the brew was no bueno, and I was disappointed. I’ll give the place 1 more chance for coffee, otherwise, sticking to food.

I’ve been a regular for the past two years, and the fluffy waffles, cheesy eggs, and quirky service have been pretty damn consistent! I also discovered today that the avocado caprese(avocado + mozzarella + tomato + baby spinach on focaccia) is AWESOME. $ 11 for a huge sandwich, chips, and a generously sized iced coffee? I think I’ve found my regular spring-summer lunch spot!

Quick lunch down the street from work. Oh yeah! This spot was convenient and clean two of my favorite things. The portions were perfect too and they had some great artwork as well, and information about local events so hats off to you, U st Café

Great location really close to the U Street metro station. We went for a late breakfast before travelling to the airport and had really delicious waffles. I had a strawberry one, which was really tasty, sweet and refreshing. My boyfriend had the chocolate chip one which he enjoyed too. They had a great selection of breakfast and lunch menu choices as well as hot and cold drinks. I had a vanilla cappuccino frappé and was surprised to be asked what milk I wanted it made with. There’s a choice of whole, semi-skimmed, 2%, almond or soya! I’m from the UK so I don’t know if that’s usual over here but I thought it was good to have the choice.

Great breakfast sandwiches and decent coffee, served up fast. Ordering at the counter was disconcerting because initially the woman ignored me to take an order from a woman sitting at the counter to the right of the registers and then once it was my turn to order, she didn’t make eye contact or seem to acknowledge my presence. My food arrived though, so apparently she was paying attention after all. The café is sunny and warm, a decent amount of seating and spacious. Food 4, Service 3, Ambiance 3

I really like this spot. I’ve been here twice now for an extended period to do work and job applications. Strangely it’s one if the only places on U St. that feels appropriate for Sitting for a long time to do work. The atmosphere is very friendly and the staff is very accommodating. One lady recommended I try the strawberry mango green tea smoothie and made it for me herself to make sure I got the real deal. I had some trouble with the internet being slow today but the guy next to me was fine. The food is good, typical breakfast and lunch choices. Wish this place stayed open past lunch hours!

I haven’t had a lot of success with decent vegetarian options in the area but the sandwich options were pretty extensive and the ingredients were fresh and delicious. I liked the option to add fruit salad as my side, instead of potato chips. The coffee was ok, but not outstanding. The service was friendly — the barrista was particularly awesome — but seemed rather disorganized. They didn’t provide me with an order number and then just roamed around with my sandwich looking for me, then I had to get up and ask for the soda I had ordered with my sandwich. There’s free wifi and a nice atmosphere — perfect for getting some work done. If they were to improve their service just a touch they have potential for 5-stars.

Home of the doissant(donut and croissant mix). It’s cool to say you’ve tried it if you’re a foodie, but don’t go in with any expectations. I hope I came on an off day, because what I tried was a bad donut mixed with a bad croissant. It tasted pretty smooshed and greasy. The only flavor I could make out was the bit of chocolate cream at the end. Flavors change periodically, so maybe tomorrow’s flavor will be better than the one I tried. On to the next foodie trend!

I stopped coming here when they let some of the old staff go… They were way more friendlier and much more nicer than the people they have in here now… They guy who took my order was on the phone, the entire time… Who ever the management is here, you need to rehire your old staff back. they were very personable, and friendly when ever you are in there.

Wanted something cheap on a Sunday morning, so decided to venture down to the U Street Café. Now, I was craving waffles, and I got what I asked for… basically. Banana Pecan Waffle($ 6.49). C+ It came with pecans in it, heap of canned whip cream on top, and a cut up banana. Now, it wasn’t over priced. It was exactly what I could make at home in my own waffle iron though. It even tasted like Bisquik mix. Vanilla Latte($ 2.90). A WOW. Now that was a surprise. An incredible vanilla latte, unassumingly presented in a generic take-out cup, across from another one of my favorite coffee shops(the Wydown). For a dollar less than almost anywhere else you get better quality than even Pound. That was shocking. So no, I would not go to eat here again(unless for a snack). I’m definitely going back for a cheap latte and to sit outside on a bright sunny morning.
