This was our stop for lunch after arriving to the island. My husband is a great fan of Danish cuisine and we weren’t disappointed! Had their grilled turkey sandwich and pesto cheese sandwich with their famous kringle. Loved them all. It’s decently priced as well. Must go to place if visiting the island!!!

Yummy sandwich at a very fair price. Fast friendly service even when it was busy, and we got a table right away. High quality lunch meats and good bread with plenty of sandwich choices. Great place to bring the family!

Wonderful donuts and breakfast, a must stop if looking for food on the island. Reasonable price too for an island mostly devoid of quality food. Their homemade raspberry filled donut is my favorite!

A quick lunch stop that did not disappoint while on Washington Island for the day. We were looking for something other than bar food, and this was a great choice for a quick bite to eat. I had the half sandwich(turkey) and half soup(clam chowder) combo, and it was the perfect lunch portion. Service was friendly and quick, and the food fresh and made with quality ingredients. They also serve coffee, smoothies, desserts, and a whole list of other deli items to choose from. I don’t think we’ll be back anytime soon to Washington Island, but if we do come back, this would absolutely be a lunch stop again.

We were on the island for a few hours and a local recommended the Danish Mill for lunch. We stopped in and it was small, but pleasantly so. We ordered our sandwiches and there was a little bit of a wait, but not much. And then the sandwiches were so good. I was actually surprised at how good they were. When we return to Washington island some day we will definitely return.

We stopped for lunch. The place is touristy with a gift shop that takes up more space than the restaurant. The menu consists of soups, salads, and sandwiches. The deli meat they use is Boar’s Head, a good quality brand. The bread is made fresh right there. I ordered the ½ sandwich and soup. I chose ham and Swiss for the sandwich and chili for the soup. The sandwich was an average ham and Swiss. The chili was flavorful. The gift shop was filled with local souvenirs and crafts. The restroom was not heated and chilly, but clean. This is a good place for lunch if you have time to wait as service can be slow when they are busy.

A Washington Island resident recommended this restaurant for lunch. So glad I went. My friend and I split the ‘squealer’ sandwich and each got a bowl of split pea soup. The sandwich was big, spicy and toasted perfectly. The soup was creamy and hearty. The restaurant is clean, cute, friendly and good prices. They also have a breakfast menu. Enjoy!

Had the chicken salad sandwich on sour dough. The bread was so soft I loved it! My boyfriend had the roast beef and it was tasty. $ 8 for a sandwich is pricey, but we were satisfied and happy and prob would’ve returned if we were still on the island.

Best place for lunch on the island. Great sandwiches, deli and home made deserts. Inside info: You can order any pie flavor you want with one day notice.

I loved this place! Between the wonderfully quaint decorations, the fun little craft shop, the nice drink assortment, all of the Boar’s Head meats, the friendly staff, and their expertly-crafted sandwiches — how could I not love this place? I couldn’t even guess how many sandwiches I’ve eaten in my lifetime, and their Danish Mafia ranks among the top. The bread was that perfect blend of firmness and softness, with a nice grainy /buttery essence. Pile on a liberal amount of Boar’s Head cold cuts, with just the right amount of dressings, and you have one 5-star sammich! Next time I’m on the island, I’ll definitely want to come back and try more of their sandwiches and soups.

I am more than happy to drive for a good sandwich. I’d heard that the Danish Mill opened on the Island a few weeks ago, and they were using Boar’s Head meats. Kumbya, I said! Such excitement! When we got to the island, my boyfriend and I stopped here, first meal on the island! The bread was so good! We wound up coming back a second time, when we left! We wound up having the Danish Mafia twice, the Islander, and one of the turkey sandwiches. The Danish Mafia was amazing, what with the salami and the bread and the other meats. I personally remember how delightful the salami was. And, the sandwich itself was very well made, it didn’t slide all over like some sandwiches might, it stayed together, and was perfectly layered. This might not seem like a big deal, but if you’ve eaten enough sandwiches, you know good and well what I’m talking about, when the meat is hanging out the end, and being all sad and lonely without any bread left when you get there. We also had their soups, which were great! The first time was a turkey corn chowder, the second time a turkey wild rice. I preferred the chowder, wonderfully creamy without being gloppy. The rice was good, but it wanted it to be a bit more salty, and didn’t want to part with the Mafia to get up and get some. Highly recommended. Could not suggest a better sandwich on the island, or for that matter, in all of Door County.

The Napoleon was delicious! All of the baked goods here are exquisite. Please make this your last stop before you hop back on the *really expensive* ferry back to the mainland. You won’t be disappointed! Honestly, some of the best«treats» we had up in Door County.

KRINGLE!!! I MUSTFEASTUPONKRINGLE! Went with my fiancé to Washington Island on the 19th of Aug 2013. She had fancy blended coffee drink that she loved. I had a frozen strawberry lemonaide since I had already consumed about 40 cups of coffee and I was a spaz. The strawberry lemonaide was delicious. But, most delicious of all was their kringle. The statement«I would consider the Kringle at the Danish Mill to be the culinary opus of mankind», is true, except that it is an understatement. I have had the Kringle fom the Danish Mill. My life is now complete. I will die happy.

If you find yourself up on Washington Island, this is a nice place to stop and grab a bite. The food was quite good and the atmosphere is cozy. It seems to be a hang out for the locals. The gift shop is small but nice. I would definitely stop in again if I came back up to the island

Great food, and great bakery. I had the Turkey Lingonberry Danish Smørrebrød(open faced sandwich). It was fabulous. And we had a piece of Cherry Crumble Pie. Simply delicious. We even bought a whole pie to take home. Awesome!

Slow service(and errors in our order often), but yummy food. This place sprung up on the island just a few years ago. The gift shop it incorporates is a bit cheesy, but the restaurant is the main point. Great breads, and they carry nice deli products(though I still prefer Mann’s for deli service). The Danish Mill is a nice option, if slow, for a simple lunch.

A nice change of pace from the normal tourists food choices. The food(from several delightful experiences) is exceptional. The facilities bright, airy and spacious. They even have outdoor accommodations. The adjourning gift shop, Island Fantasy Gifts a treat to explore. In my opinion, The Danish Mill Bakery and Deli is a «must stop» when visiting Washington Island.

I Love This Bakery Restaurant! We visited Washington Island and stopped in here for coffee and breakfast. We were first attracted to the authentic wind mill architecture. Then, inside we had a combination of the most amazing bakery goods I’ve not had since I was a kid. The peanut butter bars, the donuts, the date bars and the pie we took home were all amazing! We also had the local Door County flavored coffee, which was great too! The family that runs it was very nice and recommended places to see on the Island. We’re dying to come back and try the lunches… apparently all the sandwiches are made on home-made bread. Well worth a stop!
