Luby’s

This is awful. They are speedy at the counter, but the «servers» are so rude and don’t give you the time of day. My parents go here because they enjoy it not being busy, but the people that are helping you are so rude.

Food is extremely overpriced. The roasted chicken was greasy with slimy, undercooked skin. The server only checked on us at the beginning (when we didn’t need anything), but never came by to refill our drinks. The iced tea came out of weird spigots in the counter — I asked if it was fresh brewed and they said it was, but it tasted like that nasty concentrate stuff. I don’t believe for a minute that it was fresh brewed — yuck.

It’s a Luby’s cafeteria, what can I say. Seems like years and years ago they used to be better, but I haven’t enjoyed eating at one in a very long time.
A mystery to me is why there’s so much patronage at this one when there’s little at the one in Nassau Bay and they’re essentially the same.
I can’t explain why, but for some reason we thought this one might be different so we tried it today. Nope, same ol’, same ol’. I think they may have a slightly larger selection than the one in Nassau Bay, probably because they have so much more traffic. We waited in a VERY long line. We had the Parmesan Chicken. It was Lubylike (translation: it wasn’t appetizing). We also had new potatoes, corn casserole and Texas Toast (or garlic toast?). The new potatoes were greasy, but I like greasy so they were OK. The corn casserole was the best of the lot. The toast was toasted and pretty much tasteless.
They’re sort-​of cheap and I’m sure the food it safe, so if you’re on a extremely tight budget you can make do here. For us oldies they have an even cheaper option (the Senior Luann[sp?] Plate) in the middle of the afternoon.
UPDATE: We went by today (April 6, 2015) and I guess this place is a little better than the one in Nassau Bay. We had the meatloaf and it was okay. If you don’t want to wait a long time get there early — we arrived about 5pm and the place was almost empty.

We’ve Eaten Out Every Meal for 25 years

I like the atmosphere, location and Its plenty of parking. Food is pretty good and always looks fresh, especially the desserts! I’m always torn between the cod square fish and chopped steak! Only thing I would change is the proportions. That one piece of fish and two sides don’t fill me up.

The kitchen manager didn’t want to sell me a luanne plate. I had ordered a salad just romaine lettuce, tomato, and carrots. They didn’t have broccoli or parmesan cheese or boiled egg for the salad. I wanted unsweet tea but they were out it also. So I ate my salad dry with out a drink, then I asked the waitress for some club crackers they were wet inside the package. So UNSATISFIED, no one deserves this. But I guess this was my second time at this luby’s location and my Last time. The manager lady needs to look at all these things going wrong with this restaurant. NO GOOD, DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY THERE.

Whatever happened to the Lubys we used to know and love? I had such high hopes for this new location and it delivered for a short time, but it has now sunk to two miserable stars. Ive had three bad meals there in a row so Im out. The last time my family went, the roast beef was about a four inch thick block of dried out, overly seasoned butt piece of meat. No thanks. We were told that it would be a 20 minute wait for white meat chicken. No thanks. We settled on dark meat chicken and liver and onions since most of the other available choices were in the $ 13.99 price range. For that money I will go to a real restaurant, not someplace I serve myself yet am still expected to tip. Anyway, when I began eating my dark meat chicken, (since I couldnt wait 20 minutes for white), blood began oozing from my meat. Uncooked chicken. No thanks. Come on, Lubys. Come on.

Family friendly atmosphere, the food is always the same, I would have given them 5 stars but I saw something that I was told not to do when working in the food industry. The server put chicken tetrazzini on a plate and passed it down and the gentleman said he didn’t want that so she took and accepted it of the page back into the serving container. I thought once it touch the plate and other hand touched the plate that it was to be trashed not out back into the serving dish.

I miss my Piccadilly, but Luby’s freshness has grown on me. This location is really clean and the food always looks fresh. Something about their broccoli brings a smile to my face. Piccadilly is cheaper, but Luby’s has better quality.

Got there right at 11:00 opening time. Food was cold, hard. Our server was awful. Never got refills on our drinks. We told girl about food being hard and cold. She was not happy with us. Kept calling my friend momma. We did not leave tip and she started slaming plates down on table. Will never go back. My friend had liver and onion and it was bad. Don’t know why they have gone down. This is the new Luby’s.Ugg!

Have always loved Lubys, but they have gone so far from the original concept that the food is suffering because of it. Tasteless chicken $ 13 for a dry porkchop and every single time we have come her there is no roast beef. staff really could care less… my roll was hard and old not like yummy rolls from the old Lubys, greasy old new potatoes that were rubbery.

Yum! The only thing bad about this lubys is it’s almost impossible to choose what to get because it’s all good. Had the chicken fried steak and enjoyed every bite. Last time I got the fried fish and it was great. This new look is nice. Love this place.

The food is superb and the customer service is the best I’ve ever had at a Lubys! Great location on Gulf freeway! Wonderful variety of items which are always fresh!!! Yum!

We were out shopping and saw a BRAND. NEW. LUBY’S! We decided to check it out. I knew ahead of time it was going to be typical overpriced old people cafeteria food. Pretty sure that is why its always been over priced, even at the nastiest locations. Old people are easy targets, but I digress…
HAIR IN MY FOOD. I repeat: HAIR-​IN-​MY-​FOOD. Not mine — Im a redhead. Picked 4 strands out just to see how much was in it… HBIC (Head B In Charge) was running around YELLING at the waitstaff in the dining room. Pretty sure the cake was plastic. Revolting. Drink was NEVER topped off or refilled… NOT ONCE.
Dont be fooled by the pretty new building, this place is SICK. Oh yes and it SHARES a bathroom with the Fuddruckers next door. Let that sink in…

We ordered the Combination Thanksging feast to take home and it was really really good! Amount of meats was good, would recommend they give a larger portion of yams in the Complete the Feast Package. Totally recommend this Luby’s location to order Thanksgiving meal!!!

It’s the nicest lubys around, great staff, nice people, I guess as I get older I have been running into older friends at lubys. Yikes ! I’m not a fan of buffet but they serve you so the food is not handled by customers. My favorite food here is the liver and onions, because I hate to cook it and it taste close to my grand mothers recipe. My other favorite food is the big crunchy fish, jello salad and Spanish slaw. Cabbage or turnip greens are good down home sides for liver, and fish I just like the slaw with it. Iced tea is great and if you have a sweet tooth they have sugar free options.

Well considering you cannot get vegetables anywhere anymore this is a weeknight
go to place especially since Cracker Barrel’s all taste canned now (so disappointing). VERY slow moving line during peak hours, mostly ok food, nice and attentive staff.
My only real peeve is the cornbread is super DRY.

The new location is very clean and attendant was very attentive and friendly Not too impressed with the serving line though First station was the salad bar No server in sight Then four employees tried to decide who was to work that station When they finally decided, she had to find gloves to serve Not a big deal but it set the tone for the other stations Management can get their «hiccups» fixed Food was typical cafeteria food We went for the Senior Luann special and were not disappointed We will go back soon to see if serving line has improved
I was impressed on the utilization of space Restrooms were common facilities with Fuduckers Very clean

It’s Luby’s. I’m here on a Wednesday at 5:45pm and I went through the line very quickly. Only 2 small groups ahead of me. The food is normal Luby’s comfort food. It was good and consistent. We enjoyed the mac & cheese as well as the red potatoes were good. The mashed potatoes were a little bland but that’s why there’s salt and pepper on the table. Very friendly service! Nice new facilities too! For a Luby’s I think it’s one of the best. Bring grandma and grandpa here, they’ll love it! But for a date, I’d go to one of the other restaurants around the corner.

Now open next to Hobby Lobby. 4 stars because of how clean it is and the service was great, but I took away 1 star because the food is all the same like all of the other ones, there’s nothing to special about it. Besides all of that it felt like I was in any other restaurant and not a cafeteria type setting. If you really enjoy there food I would suggest you go to this location because you could get what you like while getting the service everyone deserves.
