I am assuming this place is still in business due to the fact that they don’t have much competition in the area in what they offer. I know that is why I have returned here more than I would have liked as I work within walking distance. Each time I eat there, I tell myself: the food could not be more bland, the time it takes them to prepare anything is astronomical, and the ingredients are not nearly fresh enough… but when nothing else is available, I seem to repeat the same mistake in giving it another try. Today though was most likely the last straw. I went in before the lunch rush, knowing if I didn’t it can take up to a half hour to order anything. Not one other customer was inside the place. Figured a quick in and out. I stood there for 10 minutes before I was even acknowledged from any of the 4 staff at the counter and register(not to mention the 2 back in the kitchen). I didn’t want to interrupt the sweet lady that was meticulously placing yogurt parfaits on a tray to go in to the display that not one other customer was there to buy! Eventually I was asked what I wanted. Even somewhat excited to order as I noticed on their fancy chalkboard, the«daily special». I asked the woman taking my order how long that special would take to make, and her response, «sorry, I don’t have time to make that for you». Let’s see. It’s your daily special, but you can’t order it that day because you don’t have time to make it? I looked over my shoulder to see if the lunch rush came in as I remembered I was the only person in there for ten solid minutes. Maybe she was taken aback at the one other customer who had now come in to order something, thinking she needed a good hour to prepare two meals for two people, given they average about twenty minutes for each sandwich made. Then I got to thinking about the name of the place… Express Gourmet. For years I have been trying to understand how they had the audacity to include gourmet in their name, given their flavors they give to their food run between, cardboard and wicker(not the dyed darker wicker mind you, that would be a compliment to Express Gourmet’s «seasoning». But what really got me today in the name was the«express» portion. Express? 10 minutes with no one else there to even acknowledge me? maybe they had a lot of catering or delivery orders, but I took time out of my day to walk to the store to give them money. A daily special… something you would assume would be prepped and ready to assemble quickly, given it is the daily special you are promoting… but you don’t have time to make it(and the best part, the woman at the counter said it is the daily special all week, and she didn’t have time to make any yesterday either so I shouldn’t take it personally. Yet there it is on the huge sign on the front of the place, EXPRESS gourmet. Maybe those yogurt parfaits finally made it in to the display counter… a lovely breakfast of week old yogurt, three blueberries, one sliced strawberry and a thimble full of granola… in time for the DINNER crowd!

What an amazing place! The flavors were awesome and the portions were great. Good discounts if you look at their specials and coupons, and there is plenty of variety to choose from. I will definitely go back.

I used to frequent this place for breakfast when I lived in Wellesley. It was a nice quiet place to eat breakfast, read a book, and look out at the Charles River on a crisp fall morning. The breakfast wasn’t the best ever, but it was good, a fair price, served quickly, consistent, and the staff were friendly. It’s funny that so many people mentioned that the staff just don’t remember regulars… I never experienced that and they definitely knew my name and my usual order after about the first week or two of going there regularly. The only negatives to Express Gourmet is that it is pretty small, not open on Sundays(but that may have changed?), and sometimes they run out of ingredients(particularly with the bread for sandwiches) and you end up with something a little different. Other than that, it is a great place to get a quick bite to eat, nice people, and nice location.

I have been here a bunch of times and have had delivery as well. The menu is pretty good. They have a good variety of wraps /sandwiches /salads, and you can also creat your own. I find that my order is often wrong if I get it delivered. It’s usually missing at least one thing that the description says it includes. As far as the place itself, it’s tiny. They need a bigger space and more staffing. Definitely can’t eat there. Parking is a nightmare, often I have waited 20+ minutes to get a spot at lunchtime. If I get it delivered, I have to order no later than 10:30am if I want it between 12 – 1230. Their chocolate chip cookies will always have me coming back because they are the best chocolate chip cookies I’ve ever had !

The pulled pork sandwich was good, but could have been a little warmer with a little more bbq sauce. The chicken salad wrap was good but a little small for the price. I also got the lemon chicken soup, which was also very small for the price and not much better than out of the can. I did like the free fruit cup I got when I ordered on line!

We are back here again having previously tried & enjoyed the BBQ. This time we were having sandwiches as the recent massive snows had prevented them from smoking overnight. I had a steak tip wrap with everything! Rice, guacamole, peppers, onions, salsa, and anything else that could fit! Wrapped & pressed on the panini machine. Excellent! Come hungry or bring half home! My wife had the Mediterranean, one of the several Gourmet sandwiches, this featuring grilled chicken breast, Romaine lettuce, red onions, hummus, roasted red peppers with lemon oregano dressing on rosemary focaccia bread. The chicken is marinated and steals the show! Delicious! We tried a few of the small bags of gourmet chips from companies I had never heard of and they were a great compliment. Also had the local bottled cream soda & root beer. For dessert we split a massive Oatmeal Raisin cookie. Chewy insides and a nice crunch to the edges. Try to share this could cause marriages to fail, buy one for each and get fat but stay happy! The staff are just gems. Long lines don’t rile them, as they calm, friendly and take care of YOU! This time we went in with a Groupon, and because of the many Boston snow storms we had delayed trip after trip as the expiration date came & went. But they honored the Groupon, which not every restaurant will do! These are people, taking care of people. So nice to find! One last comment about the food. The ingredients are fresh, items are homemade, and all with care and craft. With a public parking lot right next door, and outside seating when it is not covered in snow, this is a great place to eat!

If you’re looking for a great lunch spot Express Gourmet at 11 River St. in Wellesley is the place to go. They smoke their own brisket and bake their own cookies and everything is all organic. To top it off they even deliver and do breakfast. I will highly recommend Express Gourmet to all of my Wellesley friends.

I work near here and I go all the time. The food is very bland and overpriced. I tried their chicken parm panini and there was no sauce, the chicken wasn’t breaded and there was more cheese than there was chicken. I’ve had their salads and they are good but still overpriced. The only other items I’ve tried is their BLT and normally its very good but occasionally they burn the bacon and it turns out awful. One of their employees has two sides irritated and angry. If you are lucky most of the time she’ll be irritated otherwise prepare for an attitude.

So many amazing things to say about this place. Wonderful food, service and what a terrific atmosphere. Every time I come here the food gets better and better and their barbeque is just to die for. This restaurant is run by the friendliest people who make the best and freshest food. After a long hard day at work this hidden gem is just an awesome place to relax eat a great meal and bask in the sun with friends. I can’t wait to be back for more!

I work nearby and this place quickly became our go-to spot for take out and delivery. I’m here at least twice a week, usually even more often, and I have coworkers who go daily. The owners/managers Dave and Josh are both so friendly and always remember us by name. The rest of the staff is super helpful as well. The sandwiches and salads are excellent and there are many different styles and flavors so there’s always something appealing to me no matter what I’m in the mood for. The daily specials are fantastic and range from blackened salmon to jambalaya to chicken piccata. I’m a huge fan of their soup specials and highly recommend the lobster bisque — I make sure to order it every time it’s on the menu as it’s one of the best I’ve had and extremely reasonably priced considering the quality. I also think their breakfast is highly underrated — the omelets are massive and they are generous with the meats/veggies mixed in. A lot of businesses are located in this area so naturally they get slammed around lunch time but I find their delivery timeframe estimates are always fairly accurate, and there is always the option to pick up in store. They somewhat recently spruced up the interior and it’s a great spot to eat in as well for those days where you just really need to get out of the office for a bit. When the weather is warmer, their patio area is perfect and as an added bonus offers a nice view of the river across the street.

The BBQ was okay. They could use some spruce up on customer relations and service. I would give 4 starts for food and 2 for service and selection if I had to break it down.

The new patio furniture is so nice. The BBQ is just as good as blue ribbon. They said that they will be adding more sides to go along with the BBQ soon. The ice cream is very creamy, you can tell it is homemade. I haven’t tried a panini yet but they look good and are a good size.

I work in this area and it’s my favorite place to grab a quick lunch. There are many places on Route 16 for lunch and this place definitely has the best soups. They’re all made fresh daily, and they let you try samples of them before you make a purchase. They offer 3 different kinds daily. They have great lunch specials too. My favorite is a chicken kabob served on a skewer(with 4 very large pieces of chicken) with onions and peppers, over a generous serving of rice pilaf, and a side garden salad. All for only $ 8.99 — you can’t beat it. It’s so much food, I’ve never been able to finish it at lunch, I end up taking it home and having it for my dinner too. The menu is great, many different items to choose from.

When I worked in an office nearby I came to Express Gourmet regularly. 3.5 stars? Come on, this place is way better than that. It’s pretty much the only lunch place around with healthy food and vegetarian options. The staff is super friendly, they really are great guys, and they’ll switch items around and customize your order for you. In the summer you can sit outside where they have tables setup. Or even better, get your food to go and sit by the river! They have benches there, and sometimes you’ll get some ducks and geese coming by, plus there’s a fantastic view, and you’re out in nature for your lunch break, what can be better than that?!

Stopped in for a quick bite to eat and had a Lemon Chicken Soup served with a few side pieces of bread. The guy there was nice and told me I would either love it or hate it and offered to let me try it. It did have a good kick to it and thought it was good and it hit the spot since I didn’t want anything heavy or greasy. If you don’t like lemon or sour then I’d skip it. It was nice to sit quietly and watch some brainless TV before my meeting. This is a small place with inside and outside tables without a lot of hubbub.
