As far as dermatologist goes, Michael Dorman is as good as it gets. First off, he is very thorough. 2nd, he’s not money hungry and if he sees the problem the first time, he will diagnose you correctly the 1st time unlike dermatologist in my past. 3rd of all, he is very smart and since I’ve starting coming to him about a month or so ago, he has diagnosed issues such as my hair, skin, scar tissue and lip dryness on separate occasions and ALL issues have improved! I had been going to another dermatologist that everybody loves for years but she really isn’t all that. I’m usually much too ethical to mention names here but this may save someone else the time and effort — Dr. Heidelberg in Detroit, MI. She is a very nice lady and her own skin is flawless but my experiences with her have been more frustrating than helpful. As a rule, I have to see her 2 or 3 times for her to correctly diagnose the issues I was having(acne) although she has helped my mom and aunt with some issues of the hair and have been successful each time. But as for me, each time she’d give me some trial sized bullcrap, then add a prescription for the same crap that never worked. In the end, I’d wind up spending $ 100 – 300 just to have to call this woman again and get another prescription! It was almost as if she was experimenting on my skin! Grrrrr. Also, I’m very new-school when it comes to my waiting times and I don’t appreciate being kept waiting, each time, for several hours. 1 – 2 hours to be exact. My mom is retired and my aunt works part time so this apparently works out just fine for them but I run a business and while I understand things happen I get very frustrated when my time isn’t respected. While waiting in her lobby or exam rooms, you can also hear her staff cackling about non-work-related stuff which is very annoying. My reluctance for replacing her sooner and her saving grace was that she was black and so am I. I figured she’d be better able to diagnose my skin because she’d understand ethnic skin better. Wrong! I was able to book an appointment within days for Dr. Dorman and the wait in his lobby was no longer than 10 – 15 mins which was reasonable. Upon my first visit to his office, he came in with his surgeon’s glasses on and a guy following him taking notes on his tablet. Right away I knew this was my kind of guy! Very up to date and on the ball! I learned that my skin had began to break out more from the acne products I was given by her because she gave me cortisone and that is what cortisone does! It makes you dependent. You would think she would know this. My small amount of acne turned into a real live acne problem after coming to her my last time around! I’m 36 yrs old! I am over this phase in my life! To make matters worse, the acne had left black scars all over my face again which weren’t there before. This medication also irritated my saborehic dermatitis(not sure I spelled this right). Dr. Dorman listened to what I had to say, examined my skin, and prescribed me with about 2 scripts that cost me about $ 200 total but will probably last me through next year so it was well worth it. Not only did the medication he prescribed clear my acne, it evened out my skin tone and did not burn like the retin-a my last doc gave me. Sigh(why would you prescribe retin-a to someone who already has a burning skin condition – saborehic dermatitis?). Today, 2 months later, my skin glows and while I may get a pimple here and there, I am about 97% acne free. I actually go without makeup sometimes now and I haven’t been able to do that in years. Please understand that I don’t love Dr. Dorman because I hate my last doc. I had acne for years and went to many of doctors and he is just stands out from the rest. Trust me, I should know. Dr. Dorman has been a godsend. Good doctors are hard to find and he will sooner retire before I replace him. :-). If you go to him, you won’t be sorry.

I don’t normally review doctors, but Dr. Dorman is great. I have visited many different dermatologists over the years so I can safely say Dr. Dorman is one the best. He is by far the most professional, efficient, least painful, and nice dermatologist I have encountered. I live in Chicago now, but I still see him when I am in town.
