Moby Dick’s is a cozy sushi place just outside the Beltway in Wheaton, MD. I had some excellent sushi, and the wait staff was very nice. They were a wonderful respite from the horrible traffic on the Beltway.

One of my favorite hole-in-the-wall sushi place in Wheaton. I love the bento box and the food always tastes fresh. The people are super nice and very attentive.

Best sushi place around prices aren’t to bad. The food is awesome here. It’s kind of a small place but like I said the food is great. A friend and I both ate here and had left overs for 30 dollars a person.

I didn’t do one star because their sushi is really good but I came on a Monday around 4 and they were closed. They guy said«the chef is out and he comes back around 4:30». The only reason why I may come back is because of their good sushi.

Best Japanese restaurant in the Wheaton area. Besides the sushi I ordered a dish called Korean Chirashi which you’d like if you like raw fish. That’s my signature dish every time I go there.

My family has enjoyed their service for a few years now! The food has always been exceptional and the service very helpful. I recommend if you’re interested in homey and delicious Japanese food. Service may be slightly longer on busier days. Stop by if you’re in Wheaton!

Here is a review you can’t write every day. The food is great, and the ambiance reminds my wife of sushi places she frequented as a child in Japan. They also do a tasty spicy Korean version. But more importantly the staff is amazing. We came here once when my 2 year old daughter was potty training. She was sitting in a booster seat, and forgot to ask to go to the bathroom. As mortified parents we began running around trying to figure out how to clean things up. But the staff here took it in stride, picked up and insisted on washing things themselves, asking us to just be comfortable. This was an awful thing we brought them into, and they were so nice and accommodating. Wonderful, understanding people. Side note: Moby dicks gets their name from the fish market that was there before they moved in.

Stopped by for a quick lunch and was happy with the meal. The service was good and we had 3 sushi rolls(crispy, spicy tuna roll, eel roll and a yellow tail roll). Tuna roll was good, had a nice combination of spicy mayo with a drop of siracha on top, the eel roll had a unique twist, eel was flash fried, very nice, as for the yellow tail, the green onion was bit overpowering. Also had the bento box A, teriyaki chicken was perfect, salad had tasty ginger dressing and was also served with some edamame and a California roll. Overall was a good lunch.

I am still new to the area and looking for good sushi. This place happens to be one mile from the casa so my husband and I rode bikes here for some rolls. This place is a little gem, tucked away in a tiny building at the backside of a stripmall. The setting is rustic Japanese with authentic tapestries and an impressive mask collection. To top it all of they have a modest but decent saki selection and the specials are fantastic. Their bento boxes for lunch and dinner are just the right portion size. Of course I have to mention their sashimi and rolls-SO fresh and delicious. This is a great little find! If you have a large party or don’t care for their décor as I described… they will hook you up with takeout. I highly recommend this place!

Best sushi in the Wheaton area! Every time I want sushi I go here. Been coming for a couple years now. The staffs are friendly, the service is great and the food is awesome. The sushi is fresh n it hits the spot. Bento boxes are also delicious but I prefer the dinner ones because it comes with a lot more items.

I have only been once but I was very impressed. I’ve passed by it quite a few times going to restaurants around there. I was looking for miso soup and this was the only place that looked good around the area. I decided to try it and its location is just like«a hole in the wall» with metered parking. However, I’ve been pretty good with finding already paid meters so that wasn’t a problem :) The owners I believe? Are ridiculously nice! As well as the waitress. Love their attitude and it makes me want to come back. The food was fantastic. I got the Box B? The tempura shrimp bento box. Sushi was california rolls and it was great. LOVE the mini salad looking part. Not sure what’s in it but if all my salads were like that, I would be too healthy. Would like a bit more rice. Not a fan of what was sweet potato? Girlfriend thought miso soup was good. Overall, I was very pleased and thought it was worth the $ 11 a box.

My wife and I probably eat sushi more than any other cuisine except American, so we have a lot of raw fish stories to relate. Hey, call me Ishmael, we are definitely with the folks who give Moby Dick 4 or 5 stars. We eat there about twice a year while visiting family in nearby Silver Spring. The fish is always fresh, the preparation artistic, and the service friendly and prompt. What’s more, I am a big fan of Uni(sea urchin), but in most sushi joints it is difficult to find. Either it’s not on the menu at all, or else it is ordered only for weekend crowds because it is expensive and not many of us ‘Murkins eat sea urchin. Not so Moby Dick; they have Uni every time I show up. And another good sign: we frequently run across Japanese nationals eating at Moby Dick. Those folks would not be there if the food wasn’t close to home. I see some complaints about slow service in other reviews — never the case when we have been there, but even in a place with only ten tables, the one sushi chef behind the bar can get overwhelmed. Plus, if you’re expecting McDonalds-style gitcherfoodinthirtyseconds-type service, you really shouldn’t be eating in a sushi bar. Either go when it’s not crowded(and still expect to wait because every piece is hand-prepared to order), or do like we do and order another sake!

I saw this place got good reviews, so I decided to try it. When I went, we ordered sushi which was OK. It was nothing amazing, and kind of pricey for the portions. I was especially dismayed at the fact that the items on our bill were more expensive than the items on the menu. When I asked the waitress why, she said«We haven’t updated the prices on our menu, but prices have gone up» I don’t even think a restaurant is allowed to jack prices up on the bill with the lame excuse that«oh, we just never updated the prices on the menus we give our customers» I will never go back here.

***3.5 stars*** So close to being 4 stars but will have to settle for 3. Pros — thick slabs of salmon on their nigiri sushi, their crazy Philly roll was amaze, big chunks of fish in their rolls Cons — food took a while to come out, some of their other nigiri was lacking — red tuna, flounder and octopus, speciality rolls are a bit on the pricier side(for example, their volcano roll is more $$$ than other places but i never ordered it so maybe it’s worth the extra or something), come here for their sushi because there isn’t really anything else on their menu besides sushi. *side note — to whoever said the owners are japanese-american, that’s not true. They’re korean.

Been here a handful of times now and get say that it’s just A-OK. Well more like 2.5 stars. It is a tiny restaurant but they try their best to maximize seating arrangements. The younger guy really tries and asks the tables if you’re happy. I’ve been here for both dinner and lunch and found their prices to be a bit higher than other sushi joints and given that they aren’t in Bethesda or D.C., it confuses me. Moby’s also seem to drizzle their sushi rolls in sauce more than other places. I recently came in for lunch for their sushi combo special and the amount of tuna in the rolls were really inconsistent and small. Their tempura however is probably one of the best I’ve had. I come here when it’s convenient and close but the quality doesn’t seem much different of other places with similar prices.

Tiny hole in the wall(8 tables) in the back of the parking lot in the Triangle. Some nice cultural decorations on the walls. Whale is not on the menu — I believe the sign is left over from the previous occupant of the space. I thought the place looked familiar, and sure enough, near the door is posted a review I wrote for City Paper in 2007! I ordered the sashimi box($ 15.95) for lunch. The salad was plain iceberg with a nice sesame dressing. Miso soup was also unexceptional. The edamame were perfectly cooked and lightly salted. But as always, I came for the fish. Who puts octopus and red clam on a lunch special? They do. The sashimi also included tuna, salmon, white tuna, and snapper, all nice sized cuts, all superb in texture and flavor. I, who normally despise rolls, even enjoyed the tuna roll that was included, because it did not camouflage the excellent fish. Green tea was medium bodied and refilled without my having to ask. Be advised, the meters in the lot are active until 6PM Monday-Saturday, free on Sunday when they are closed. I was afoot while my new car was having an accessory installed. I did note that they have 2 or 3 spaces reserved along the service road next to the storefronts, if you are feeling lucky. Friendly service, excellent fish. Slam dunk 5 *****.

This Moby Dick is not part of the Persian restaurant chain(which I also love!) I’ve been on a bit of a sushi binge lately, so I stopped here on my way home from renewing my license. It’s in a great shopping center that has a retro cake decorating store called Little Bitts Shop, and also Marchone’s, which is a family owned Italian delicatessen. The decoration in the restaurant makes you feel like you are in Japan and walking through the door is somewhat magical because of the harsh transition between the ugly shopping center and the beautiful Japanese interior. Think Narnia. The service was excellent. We got there when they were about to close for a lunch break and they let us eat anyway. I ordered edamame, spicy crunchy tuna roll, and the caterpillar roll. I’ve been meaning to try the dragon roll, which is a maki roll with eel and imitation crab inside, and avocado, spicy sauce, and roe on top. Instead I got the caterpillar roll which is the same thing, but instead of imitation crab it has cucumber, and in addition to the spicy sauce there is a sweet sauce. You know I can’t turn down the sweet/spicy combo. The tempura flakes on the crunchy spicy tuna were wonderful. The spicy sauce was also spicier than usual which can be good or bad depending on your preferences. But you are wrong if you don’t like it spicy. I’ll let the picture speak for itself(unfortunately I did not have my camera so I had to use my cell phone, which has a very bad camera).
