We usually go here with a bring group and order family style off the chinese menu side. They have various choices of what to get as a family meal, and we usually opt to get the lobster hong kong style, kingdom porkchop, fish, noodles, whole crispy chicken, soup and seafood delight. It says it feeds 8 people, but This is more than enough to feed about 12 people. Food is great, but it will quickly hit you after you are done eating. Drink lots of water to flush the sodium out! The staff is always pleasant and the interior is always kept clean.

This place sent us a flyer in the mail and then when we called to order they told us they would not deliver to our house. They were rude and ignorant on the phone and I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone.

We have been going to Hollywood east café, but wanted to try pjs rice bistro… big mistake! There’s an older gentleman there who was very rude. It was as if he was doing us a favor by letting us eat there. The food was okay., but we will never go back there… horrible service! We will be going back to Hollywood café and back to enjoying the great service and excellent food.

Went last week with my bf and it seemed as if they couldn’t get any of my order right… first I asked for cream cheese to be added to my spicy tuna… left out they bought me like 6 sticks of cream cheese on the side! Then the Alaskan roll didn’t have cucumbers… what they do? You guessed it gave us like 10 cucumber stalks! Smdh I’m not going to give them a try again for a few weeks. also their salmon has a funny taste to it… not sure what’s up with that!

I came here for a small family party. If given a choice, I would not come back here again. We had 10 dishes and dessert. It started off with the typical jellyfish-sour vegetable and pig’s ears. It was quite good. However moving into normal food, a lot of the foods were too salty. Because it was a party reservation, with food already ordered from the party host, I don’t know the dishes name. Just a simply run down of what was salty that I can remember, the fried lobster with garlic onion and ginger, and ragweed? with scallops and fish. The noodles with crabmeat and something else was overcooked. Also we didn’t have any rice. Don’t know if it costs more to the hosts but I was pretty bummed. The service? HA. I thought it didn’t even exist. We had to flag down a waiter/waitress like four times in order to get forks and some water. There was no water given to us at all. The only redeeming quality was at the end. The dessert was delicious. It was a vanilla flavored tapioca, I think Hong-Kong style.

Given how many authentic Cantonese-style Chinese restaurants there are in the Wheaton area, I’m really surprised that anybody chooses PJ’s over any of the far better places. My parents, for some inexplicable reason, eat here all the time, and I totally give them the judgy eye because the food honestly is not that great. But I think they or some friends of theirs know some of the owner. And to be cynical, they probably go here because it’s cheaper than some of the other places in the area. First: the name. I HATE Chinese restaurants that pander to the trend started by PF Changs and include«bistro» in their names. Because a Chinese restaurant is NOT a bistro, which is supposed to be small, have a simple menu, and French. As for the food, it is definitely middling, and might be considered good if it was anywhere but Wheaton, but it IS Wheaton where you can throw a stone and hit a Chinese restaurant. You’d think that PJ’s would step up its game given the many competitors. If I had to rank the Chinese places in Wheaton, this one would be toward the bottom of the list. I was also completely turned off when I took some non-Chinese friends here and the service was completely different(read: disinterested and subpar) then what I get when I come with my family. Honestly, if you want Chinese food and you’re in the mall, walk three doors down to Hollywood East Café instead where the food is better.

Mmm mm lobster. If there is one thing you should try at PJ, it’s definitely the Cantonese lobsters. It’s cooked to perfection, not overly salty, and tasted fresh. But make sure you order it early as it can take 30 – 40 min to arrive. Coming from a non-lobster fan, this is quite the achievement. A few other caveats about PJ: — Most of the dishes aren’t overly salty, though if you get dishes that have brown sauce(such as sauteed eggplants), then it can be salty. If you crave more seasoning, request it to the waiter/waitress, and you can never go wrong with black bean sauce. — Skip the sushi/Japanese food. I didn’t see a single table(out of the 12 – 14 tables) ordering Japanese. — Skip the Americanized dishes, such as Kung Pao chicken, sweet & sour shrimp, and shrimp with broccoli. — Go with anything that ends with Cantonese style, Hunan style, Peking style, or any style that you may not be accustomed to. The prices are okay, and the white rice is what you expect. There’s nothing about PJ that screams at me that I should go back as soon as possible, though sticking with the traditional dishes will ensure you a much better dining experience.

Love this place! My boyfriend and I have come here a couple of times in the past few months and it never disappoints. We always start with soup — egg drop and wanton are both great(I actually get them mixed, which is even better). I have been a chow foon fan for quite a while and this one definitely measures up. The noodles are perfectly tender and the sauce is great. Besides the food, the waiter that we always get is super friendly. I mention that because I feel like that’s rare in Chinese restaurants: It always feels like they are always trying to rush me out of there. He is always smiling and offering us sauces to compliment our meal. Overall, this place is a solid, quick, delicious Chinese restaurant. The décor is nothing fancy and I feel like they could keep it a little cleaner. Besides that, big thumbs up!

I love this place. The food is well-priced and comes in large portions. I always get the spicy tuna rolls as an appetizer and then order a meal. The spicy tuna is excellent, it’s crunchy and delicious. I’ve also tried the hot and sour soup, which is amazing! It’s the perfect mix of hot, sweet, sour and spicy. Some restaurants add too much sugar or mess up the balance but this was wonderful. The last time I was there, I ordered a General Tso chicken and Shrimp combination(I think it was called Dragon something) and the chicken was really good. You could really taste the orange flavor and the shrimp was jumbo sized and delicious. The service is pretty good as well. One of my favorite restaurants for quick and good Chinese food in the Wheaton area.

Spent the night on the can after eating sushi here, got the smoked salmon and the egg custard and the shrimp finger rolls I only took a bite of each and they all tasted off, like old. I thought that would be the end if it, so such luck food poisoning ensues. AVOID.

I came here with my parents. This place was definitely a trek out for me as it took me about 45 minutes to drive there. It was definitely worth it. We ordered the clams in black bean sauce, ginger lobster, fried frog legs, and sauteed watercress. This has to be one of the most authentic restaurants I have been to in the DC area. I absolutely loved the flavor of all the sauces. The texture of the frog legs was delicious and I usually hate eating frog legs.

I stopped in to PJ twice on my recent trip to DC. The first time it was about 9pm and the sushi bar was closed, but they were still serving chinese food. Since I had gone for sushi, we did not stay. The second visit however was in the middle of the day, and they had a full menu. We ordered a couple of rolls — spicy tuna for me, and an avocado roll for my friend(vegetarian). The spicy tuna was excellent, and was delivered much faster than expected. While I was only expecting the fish and rice, the sushi chef added sesame seeds and little bits of crispy breading for texture. I really enjoyed that roll, and wished that we’d stopped for a full meal instead of just a snack. We were the only two people in the restaurant, and chose to sit at the sushi bar, so service was excellent. If the sushi bar had been open the first time, I’d have given 5 stars.

This was a delivery order. I ordered the vegetarian bird’s nest. While the presentation was nice(stir fry served in a «bird’s nest» of fried noodles), the stir fry didn’t really stand out – nothing to distinguish it from every other carry out. My boyfriend got the orange chicken and some pan-fried dumplings. The dumplings were not cooked through, and the orange chicken tasted off.

PJ Rice Bistro is one of the more expensive Chinese restaurants you’ll find in this area. I would say that the food is a little better than what you’re normally get. Presentation is a bit better at this restaurant than other Chinese restaurants. Also, I think they have slightly more variety mainly because they serve Peking duck. Portions are family size but slightly smaller than other places in the area. There is a bar so you can just sit there and quickly get served. Convenient if you’re at the mall looking for a place to eat.

Let me start by saying that if it weren’t for the location, this place would get more credit. Deilvery is prompt and accurate… and they’re especially accommodating when you ask for extra tobiko/fish eggs on top of your cali rolls. One of the few places that’ll deliver to your floor in a hospital… other places make us come to the lobby. Now, let’s move on to the california rolls. They’re the perfect size with a pleasant sesame coating. It’s chewy without being gummy, and delicious with OR without soy sauce. The miso soup has a very mild taste, with the perfect amount of tofu to accent(rather than overpower) the soup. The yellowtail is very fresh and tasty, with a generous pad of rice.

Located in Restaurant Row of Wheaton Mall, PJ Rice Bistro offers decent sushi at an affordable price. I’ve been here several times to get my sushi fix. I’ve only ordered their original small maki rolls, which includes your basic rolls(CA, tuna, Philly, Alaska, tempura, etc.). The quality of the fish is pretty good. The salmon melts in your mouth. The spicy tuna has a little kick to it, although I wish it were spicier. The rolls have a nice ratio of rice to fish/other ingredients. Sometimes the 6 pieces are cut unevenly, but at $ 4/roll, this place isn’t bad. Their nigiri is pretty good as well($ 4.25 for two pieces). The amount of fish on the bed of rice is generous. I have yet to try their specialty rolls. I’ve also ordered their chicken lo mein($ 7.95) here. Eh, wasn’t impressed. It was super oily and was pretty bland. Chunks of chicken were scarce. When I do come here, everyone seems to be ordering Chinese food, so I guess I ordered wrong. It’s okay though, I’ll just stick with their sushi. PJ Rice Bistro may not have the best sushi in town, but it does a decent job at satisfying your craving.

Since discovery, my family has come here pretty frequently in the past 2 years as our reliable source of authentic, traditional Cantonese food. I definitely had my doubts at first when we found that this place was located inside a mall, but then again, this is an area of Maryland where competition is high and Chinese restaurants abound. Misgivings were completely dismissed as we came back again and again for reliably tasty food. A lot of places make their food really salty. Not the case here. We typically order off the set menu(offered for 2, 4, 8, or more people) as it typically proves the best deal. This set/combo menu is on a piece of white paper in a sheet protector written in Chinese. The staff speaks full English so I would recommend that you ask them for translations. The set meal usually has a tasty soup in it and the other dishes vary depending on the number. We typically add a Twin Dragon(2 lobsters at $ 23.99) and another veggie dish to our order. Of course, being authentic Chinese, you should come here with 2 – 3 other people at LEAST because it really is best to go for the full banquet/family — style experience. You get the best foods. Avoid the Americanized foods as much as possible or you’ll never know what REAL Chinese food is!

PJ’s Rice Bistro is sometimes a bit discredited because it is a restaurant inside of Wheaton Plaza. But get past that and you will experience a pretty good ‘traditional’ Chinese restaurant(read: traditional Chinese –American). Although I have only dined in once, I often walk through the restaurant when I pick up for carry-out. The restaurant has a simple décor and is rarely packed. In fact, usually when I walk by or through the restaurant, there are just a few small groups dining. Except for the one time I saw a wedding going on in there. Yup — a wedding. I thought it was a reception, until I realized I almost walked through the nuptials. What I love about PJ’s though, is that they also have a sushi menu and a delivery option. I remember the first time I ordered delivery from PJs. A snow storm was coming and I was craving sushi. Since I worked from home that day, I wasn’t in the mood to get out of my PJs and into the cold, esp. with a snow storm coming at any time. I went to PJs website online, selected my order from the menu, pulled out my credit card and within 30 minutes… tadaaaaaaa sushi and miso at my door! The sushi is definitely not the most impressive, but it’s good enough to make me happy.
