Haystacks is a diner type restaurant that is open for breakfast. Which seems odd because I arrived a half hour after the opened and I was there for nearly an hour. I was the only person in the place! Still, the service was good and the food was good so perhaps they will keep this going. Veggie omelet with home fries(oops, I put ketchup on it before taking the picture so I kinda scraped it to the side) was a nice large portion. This is the flat sort of egg omelet which is wrapped around the veggies and cheese. Nicely prepared and plated. The toast was perfectly done. Good breakfast. I will return.

Great Breakfast Restaurant! Everything was custom ordered and was made as requested. The portions were huge and the service was exceptional! I will be definitely be coming back for breakfast, and will try their Lunch Menu as well.

Good food and simple menu. People are nice in here. A lot of old timers dine here. Its a nice calm place. Good for a family outing. You might notice Chip Coffey from the psychic kids show serving your table, and if its not him then i found his long lost twin brother… Im dead serious. Go in and ask for his autograph.

Well, despite saying we wouldn’t go back, we went back. I’m not sure why. Really, they do have the best pancakes and omelets so if you can go for breakfast please do. However my husband ordered«homemade meatloaf» with mashed potatoes and bourbon gravy. What he got was, two slices of frozen meatloaf(like what you would find in a Stouffers frozen meal), mashed potatoes, and a terrible gravy that tasted like it was canned brown gravy with some bourbon BBQ sauce stirred in. It was sweet and very odd. The waitress initially disputed our concerns but came back from the kitchen offering to take half of the price of his meal off. My meal was fine, but you can’t really screw up fried shrimp and french fries. Lesson learned: If you’re going to go for dinner… better get something that is really hard to ruin.

Nothing to cry home about, or maybe because the food sucks. Dark nursing home type feel inside, at least the service saved it from getting one star.

Had brunch over the weekend and unfortunately the food quality was not what I remembered. The homefries tasted off(maybe the oil was rancid?) and the housemade gravy for the countryfried steak tasted less like gravy and more like corn starch. Service was still very pleasant and the coffee was great, so they deserve and extra star for that. I’m not sure if I’ll venture back anytime soon, though.

Visiting the area to hike at Rickett’s Glen and found this great breakfast spot. Huge breakfast menu with tons of tasty options. The straight up pancakes were thick and chewy and served with hot maple syrup. Excellent.

GREAT breakfasts– anytime– I stop in here whenever I get a chance– unfortunately, with a crazy schedule where I’m on the road at 4:30 in the marnin’ — no where near as often as I like– I am always made to feel welcome, waitstaff are friendly and personable, and they bring me gallons of GOOD coffee– not some yuppie frou-frou cup of caramel and foam– but real, damn good everyday workingman’s friend COFFEE– The breakfast fare is sublime, the prices moderate, the parking plentiful– and for us FOGs– close to the VAMC. Finest kind!

Best breakfast we’ve found in Wilkes-Barre. Prices are not cheap, but less than the chains at the Arena Loop nearby. The food is comparable, but with more local/regional flare in the combinations and omelettes.(We only go for breakfast.) The real pleasure of Haystacks is the service, which is uniformly pleasant and professional, even when they are busy. Booths along the walls afford cozy space for chatting, while oversize tables in thecenter of the dining room accodate much larger groups. Highly recommended!

I had the pasta fagoli soup, if it was good. For my main dish I had the turkey combination sandwich, it was great! My husband had a Greek hamburger, it was rare and he was not happy with it! My mother had the crab cakes with rice and green beans, and she liked it. We had coconut cream pie, and lemon meringue pie and they both were fantastic :-) They need to update their place! It’s a little dumpy!

First off, this is a «substance over style» kinda place, so just know that walking in. Yeah, it sorta feels like you’re dining in a nursing home cafeteria, but it certainly doesn’t taste the same, at least if you’re stopping in for breakfast like I did. There are plenty of menu choices/combos and, although I was first leaning toward trying the Eggs Benedict, I ultimately decided on French Toast, scrambled eggs and bacon. Yeah, it sounds a little boring, but each item was done just right, which makes a huge difference for overall meal satisfaction. The fluffy eggs, perfectly fried bacon and four tender pieces of French toast with soft butter and a little maple syrup were all thumbs up in my book. The service was also very good and it barely cost me a ten spot with the added cup of coffee and t
