It’s good for a «only option» type of place. We drove out of our way to try the pizza. I wouldn’t do that again.

We stopped in this place not expecting much & by chance stopped in on «steak night». It was $ 10 for a good size portion of steak so we thought, «why not?». Best steak ever!!! Cooked just right & juicy! Don’t know who the cook is in that lowly kitchen, but I’d put him up against any chef in Seattle. Kudos!

We were visiting some friends and stopped in for something to drink and eat, very glad we did! The drinks were good, strong but not too strong, just right! We ordered up a Yeti Burger and a Patty Melt both came with fries. The sandwiches were really good, packed with flavor but the fries stole the show! Homemade and freaking awesome, just the right amount of salt and cooked just right. The place is very homey, with a game on the tube, and everybody says hello when you walk in. The Pick and Shovel is a real gold nugget in the hills, not right around the corner but a great place to stop into while your out for a Sunday drive!

Great small town place! Like other reviewers we had just finished a hike on Mnt. Rainier and were famished! Sat at the bar and was immediately greeted by the friendly bartender. Beer selection was OK as far as small divey places go, Josh was able to get an IPA he liked on tap. For food we had the«Nacho Platter» with tots instead of chips. Boy they weren’t kidding when they named it a «Platter» There was sooooooo much food!!! For $ 13 we both ate the tot-chos and there was still some left over that we couldn’t finish. A few different cheeses from what I could tell, ground beef was good(they have an upgrade option to steak for $ 2, but we kept it basic) then they serve it with a cup of salsa and a cup of sour cream(and by cup I mean what you would normally get as a serving when you order«a cup of soup», so that tells you how much food there is if they supply that much salsa and sour cream!) The tots were perfectly cooked, nice crispy exterior you want in a tot. I had a coffee and the bartender was quick about getting refills and brought plenty of cream and sugar. They have pull tabs and a pool table and looks like they have weekend evening events if you find yourself in the area at night.(There was a poster for a party they were having posted in the restroom) All in all a pretty good place to grab a bite to eat after an 8 mile hike.

Okay, we just got finished with a hike on Mt. Rainier, starving, and had very low expectations for a little restaurant in the middle of nowhere. But we were pleasantly surprised! Great fresh ingredients, friendly service, classic all American menu & reasonable prices. We had: –Veggie Pizza –Patty Melt –Grilled cheese –baked potato salad –house salad –Chocolate caramel brownie w/ice cream Best damn ranch dressing I’ve ever had… and seriously, I’m picky as hell with ranch. Anyways– give it a shot if you’re in the area. We will definitely be back the next time we’re up this way!

After being out in the middle of nowhere, camping, we were some hungry folks on Sunday morning! We had such amazing service and the food was so. Good. The cook,(didn’t catch her name but she is a blonde lady w/tattoos and said she was a mama of 4) was beyond friendly and whipped us up some of the best breakfast ever! The hash browns were to die for. I had the hangover sandwich and boy did it cure my hangover :) we left and went on a 12 mile hike and couldn’t contain our hunger or desire to return! Sure enough, the same lady was cooking! We got the nachos which were probably some of the best I’ve ever had. I got the boinker burger, first for its name(lol) second because I’ve never had a burger with peanut butter on it! It quite possibly could’ve been the best burger I’ve ever had. Holy crap! If we are ever in that neck of the woods again, we will most definitely swing by!

This was my first time at the Pick and Shovel. The bartender provided great service and the drinks were good. I ordered the special which was a steak and asked for medium rare but it came to me very well done and leathery. So the service was great, thee drinks were good, but the cooking was poor.

My hubby and I went to eat after the Seahawks lost the Super Bowl :’(It was not crowded at all so the service was outstanding. I ordered the pizza sandwich and hubby had the burger dip. Both meals were absolutely delicious! The amount of toppings on both sandwiches was more than generous and cooked fresh. The cook who was also our wait person seemed to really care about our satisfaction. She told us about the nightly specials(Saturday is Prime Rib and Friday is beer battered cod! The best ever!) and encouraged us to come again. It was very clean and fairly quiet considering the adjoining bar. I highly recommend this for a delicious, casual atmosphere, quickly served dinner! Really nice for us as we live about a mile away.

Great food and great service! Me and some friends went there tonight and had a good time! Great, clean and friendly service. Played pool tabs and won money too! The Pick and Shovel is the new place to go!!!

After being closed for two years this will be opened under new ownership in a few days. Great menu, and iced over beer taps in a historical bar setting.

Stopped in here many times after visiting family in Wilkeson. Even made the drive to see some friends band playing there. It’s small town all the way down to the service and food. Love this place. If you can stop in for a bit, take a load off :)

Stopped in after hiking near spray park. It’s a small town pub with a big awesome bar and shitty beer, they’d just blown three taps and only had budweiser products. Food was ok, better than I expected and staff was friendly when they weren’t getting into local gossip. If you’re in the area and hungry, go for it,

We came in here for lunch while doing a work field review. A good choice to experience small-town life, that’s for sure. Pretty slow afternoon; probably has its busy moments. I had a good ol’ Patty Melt, yum! Swiss, grilled onions(which weren’t separated), sourdough(?), meat… this is diner fare I enjoy. + fries. There was a carved bear by our booth and appeared to have a «Power to the Bears!» pose. lol. Good Patty Melt. Waitress had some subtle humor. It didn’t quite feel appealing enough being away from the city on work.
