I love this little pancake house! I always get the French toast with bacon and potatoes! It is always cooked to perfection. The service is always quick and very nice. If you’re in the area it’s definitely a place to stop by and get a meal!

Food was average we ordered our food at 7:20 just to find out their grits weren’t ready even though they had been open for almost half an hour service was horrible. Our waitress never brought us drink refills. Whey we went to pay the bill they lady up front walked away. Two minutes later a guy finally came out so we could pay. Maybe it was an off day but we would never go there again

The service was good. The restaurant wasn’t crowded when we went. The home fries had a tabasco taste which was different, but tasted ok. The pancakes were amazing however.

Big doesn’t always mean better. The astronomical pancake was 14 inches in circumference but not fluffy and light. Should not have to use a knife to cut through pancakes. Décor dated. So many pancake houses in the area will try another one next time. Disappointed.

Quick, friendly service. Clean. Reasonably priced. Delicious. (I reserve 5 stars for places just like this, but with a fantastic view.) I especially enjoyed the home fried potatoes that came with my friend’s order!(Prepared with Mediterranean spices. Fried crisp.) I also sampled a taste of her omlette. It would have satisfied the fussiest of breakfast lovers. I ordered a berry topped waffle. It was crowned with a generous helping of strawberries, blackberries, and raspberries and topped with a dusting of powdered sugar. As tasty as it was beautifully presented. We will be back.

Thus place is unbelievable. We come here every year when we visit Williamsburg. Get the chocolate insanity, it’s insane!

We are actually somewhat disappointed by this pancake house. We came to realize that most of Williamsburg is smothered by pancake houses. There is probably a Tunmore competition to consider. This restaurant is definitely better than IHOP but I don’t think it lives up to the name astronimical. Selection of pancakes and varieties was definitely up to par, the execution was somewhat lacking. I don’t know if there are others that I would recommend in the Williamsburg area since this was the only one that we visited. Bye I could say that I would probably give others a try. I also learned that astronomical pancake house have other locations, and in usual situations small chain restaurants lose a little bit of quality.

The best, and biggest pancakes in Williamsburg. It gets busy on Sunday mornings, so go early or expect a wait. But the service is friendly and the turnover is pretty rapid.

We are military and have eaten at many places but this was the best breakfast we have had! I don’t like pancakes so I had French toast which was delicious along with everything else i had. Hubby and son agree they both had pancakes… oh and the service was great too. We can hardly wait to go back and I’ll try the waffle next time.

The pancakes are, as the name suggests, astronomical. Full of flavor as well — I had the pumpkin swirl pancakes with cream cheese glaze and cinnamon sugar. Delicious. Go hungry, and don’t expect to eat again anytime soon after. All of our food was hot, fresh, and arrived quickly even though the restaurant was packed on a Saturday morning. The restaurant put out free muffins for those waiting for a table — and our wait was brief. Williamsburg apparently has the highest number of pancake and waffle houses per capita in the world. Put this one on your must try list!

I would suggest not coming at the opening of the restaurant. When we were there there was not enough staff. Everything was very slow because of that. They didn’t have enough wait staff and I don’t think cooks. We saw them slowly filing in as we waited for food and service. The pancakes and bacon were good. This place is aptly named as a pancake house because there aren’t many options other than pancakes. Helpful tip, you pay up front at the register and not at your table. And, again, I’d show up after 8 am, if you want quicker service.

Delicious breakfast. We had a large variety and ate family style so we could taste a larger variety. The royal French toast was different, it tasted more like fair food than a breakfast food. It was a little much but good. Next time I would probably just get the breakfast sandwich and the cinnamon roll pancake. The omelet was good, home fries were good. Solid place for an indulgent breakfast.

The wife and I had our first breakfast here this morning based on Unilocal reviews. The pictures of the Royal French Toast posted by earlier patrons made for an easy decision. They were EXCEPTIONAL! Very rich and a large portion, so be sure you’re up for it. That said, we found out later that they do offer half portions. The side of scrapple I ordered was fantastic too! This is definitely on our Williamsburg must-have list.

Service was friendly and fast. The food was great, of note were the waffles and pancakes as well as the sausages. We enjoyed it. 4 out of 5 for service and 3.5 out of 5 for the breakfast.

Holy Hotdog Hugo! Okay, my father showed me this picture of what he called the ‘hubcap’ pancake. This plus a yummy omelet with home fries made me and the broham decide that this was a sho nuff place to try before coming back home. First things first, doesn’t look like much from the outside, a small restaurant, quaint on the inside. The outside says it welcomes motor coaches, but how they would accommodate, I just don’t know. Open from 7a-2p daily, get your grub a dub before too late. Yes it gets crowded. Luckily for us we went on a random Monday, no crowd. Score for us. We sit down already knowing what we wanted, or did we? Based on the picture that we saw, we knew that total gluttony would ensue, and as such a family style approach would be the best thing. So for starters, we got one astronomical pancake, a chicken sausage omelet with cheese, and home fries and what is called thee Royal. This is a special that technically isn’t on the menu, but I guess it really isn’t special per se because it is always an option. We give our server our order and she hypes us up, because she says these are the best pancakes that she has had and the Royal is like a funnel cake on a plate. Now I had an idea of what was coming, but you know when you really just. don’t.know. Oh buddy. We wait in anticipation. Here comes the pancake and omelet, wait we can’t dig in until the Royal comes… butter begins to melt. Wait here it comes. Wooooahhh. First the omelet, yummers, cooked to perfection, just enough egg and sausage that every bite had a delightful piece of sausage. The home fries were nice and chunky more of like a mini wedge potato spiced up just right. Next we tried the pancake, we opted for the plain pancake and that by itself was enough, it wasn’t too sweet. Just riiiighhht. Not too thick, and not paper thin either. I really didn’t need the accompanied syrup. But before we get to the Royal two patrons asked us what it was… I mean we tried to explain… french toast, dipped in pancake batter, pan fried, and drizzled with a delectable cinnamon sauce and cream cheese butter. Hey, they want to know how it taste… I mean who are we to disappoint, then as my broham takes the inaugural bite… the face that he makes leads the patron to say…“son, you don’t have to say anything else.” Ha! Yes, it was just that good! I don’t think I have ever had anything like it! It was hella sweet, and it really did taste like a funnel cake. You didn’t need to add anything else added to it, it was just pure blame perfection. We were only able to eat one piece(the order came with two). I’m not sure how you can come here and actually function. I mean a nap is definitely something that would come after stuffing your belly to capacity. The food plus the awesome servers, Lauren and Wilma,(not like the Flintstones, lol) are great. If I’m ever back in the area, this will be my FIRST stop, oh and probably my last too.

Our last morning of our trip we had breakfast here and they didn’t let us down. The place is clean and charming and the food was great. Huuuuge pancakes, they’re not playing around. I put my chicken and waffle on top of a $ 3 «side-order» pancake-it was a feast and I might never have to eat again lol

Items Selected: Coffee Biscuits Cinnamon Swirl Pancakes with Pecans and Cream Cheese Frosting French Toast Melt — Egg & Cheese, Virginia Ham, Texas French Toast, Strawberry Jam with Grits Royal French Toast — Two pieces of Texas French Toast dipped in pancake batter, deep fried, drizzled with Cream Cheese Glaze Continuing a decidedly sweet day following a completely disappointing visit to Colonial Williamsburg, it was just past 1:00pm when we entered Astronomical Pancake House and with service apparently hampered by a «large group» that had just arrived suffice it to say first impressions were not the least bit favorable — a twenty-eight minute wait in the dingy lobby feeling something like purgatory considering the larger of two dining rooms sat 1⁄3 empty with dirty plates covering no less than five tables as servers brought out plate after plate with not a busser to be found. Eventually seated just moments before the pre-determined thirty-minute ‘walk-out’ mark, it was much to my annoyance that the table simultaneously placed next to us was greeted with smiling service moments later by an elderly African American waitress while our young male server scurried about essentially ignoring us until I called out, and requesting to at least receive a glass of coffee or water after the long wait an attempted simultaneous order was immediately shot down with the youngster apparently«out of tickets,» another long delay to follow with neither coffee nor water arriving until after the order was finally placed… and neither refilled with any sort of gusto throughout the course of our stay. Hoping at this point that the food would justify the hassle it was no surprise that the entirety of a large order arrived at once and immediately thankful for an empty table to be used as a sideboard it was not long before photos were taken and indulgence began, the hockey-puck hard biscuits a lone disappointment as two daily specials and the restaurant’s «signature» cinnamon swirl pancakes each proved well deserving of not only price and praise, but potentially even the wait. Starting savory before moving to sweet it was almost as if our visit was expected when I saw the Monte Cristo-esque«French Toast Melt» on the white-board specials and loaded with briny Virginia ham, fluffy eggs, and sharp cheddar the griddled Texas Toast sandwich was quite excellent even before the addition of a layer of Strawberry jam, the same to be said of a creamy bowl of grits from which my mother partook greedily leaving me to focus on a truly ‘astronomical’ stack of buttermilk pancakes ribboned with cinnamon streusel beneath a layer of melting butter and liberally applied frosting rich with the flavor of cream cheese. Admittedly impressed by the aforementioned sandwich and stack, it was nonetheless a «save the best for last» scenario when we finally delved into the Royal French Toast, and definitely as decadent as the description would lead one to believe batter coated French toast can most reasonably be described as a breakfast«funnel cake,» the golden shell just a touch oily while the core was wispy and light, the addition of butter, cream cheese, and just a touch of pancake syrup pushing the plate into the realm of ‘best ever’ status, though even when divided by two persons the substantial richness was a bit much… though perhaps that has something to do with ordering two additional plates of food… or the cake, pancakes, French toast, and donuts already consumed earlier that day.

Nothing particularly noteworthy about brunch here today, but would probably be a pretty decent stop for a family looking for an affordable breakfast with good options for the kids. I had a western omelette, which was bland, but alright. The home fries were actually pretty good. My friend had a tutti fruitti waffle– which she said was good. What was strange was that they piled on butter on top of the fruit. Coffee was very weak. There was a short wait to be seated and I enjoyed that they had a few comfy chairs and couches to sit on while waiting. The hostess working kept things orderly and was friendly. Our server was prompt, but didn’t attempt to make any conversation with us and was not really engaged. Prices were decent– we each paid around $ 9 for our food and coffee.
