Best Western Plus University Inn

We stayed here one night upon check-​in we noticed the hotel looked very clean and up to date. The check in process went well and was fast (although they were out of cookies). Once we got to the room I saw that the room was very clean and well kept. It was probably the nicest Best Western bathroom I have ever seen. I did feel that the breakfast the next morning was sub-​par; the eggs looked rubbery and gross, though the bacon did look OK. We ended up going to the IHOP next door, but I wouldn’t necessarily ding my experience just for this reason though.
That said, you should hope you don’t check into a room with a clogged toilet like we did. When I called the front desk, I was informed that they had a plunger I could use at the front desk. Um, ok, I have NEVER, EVER been forced to plunge my own toilet in a hotel (or motel for that matter). Even in small «mom and pop» type establishments. Now, I am perfectly able to use a plunger, although I do balk when I am PAYING someone else to stay, however I walked down to the lobby and retrieved the plunger. I would have really, really appreciated it however if they could have cleaned the dang thing at some point. Apparently not only do you get to plunge your own toilet at the BW, but you get to do so using one that has dirty dried toilet paper stuck to the handle! Yeah! Based on this alone I would not return here to stay.

My stay @TheBestWestern was not a bad one. They do have a pool, and nice out of room amenities. There is space downstairs where you can hang out when you are not in your room. They do have a nice breakfast spot where they have some hot food items, and you can make your own waffles.
The room was spacious and comfortable. There was a stench in the hotel, not sure if it was from the construction that they were doing or not outside under the road, or if the hotel just smelled like sewage on its own. The room was nicely set up, and the hot water was really hot in the shower. I did notice a missing picture from the room. The hooks were there on the wall, but there was no picture there.
The hotel room staff was pretty nice, and they seemed like they wanted to please. They did have a pool, and an outdoor area were you could sit and relax. Overall it is a nice hotel to stay and relax at, even if you are going to lounge around at the hotel.

Way exceeded our expectations for a Best Western. Very fresh interior décor, Darrell was delightful on check in, breakfast was nice and better than typical, with actual sausage links for example. Is a bit of drive to the historic district, if you want historic you are better off down there, but is a good central location otherwise. But for$ 60 with a very nice pool, we’ll be back for sure.

Seriously lacking in customer service. Discovered a giant COCKROACH on the wall in our room. The front desk offered no apologies. Bugs were crawling around the breakfast area. Never staying at a Best Western again.

We booked our room and arrived to a floor that reeked of cigarette smoke. The attendant was too busy on the phone to do more than say, «Sorry, that’s a smoking floor, but your room is non smoking. I can’t help you. That’s all we got.» I managed to talk to the manager who was able to move us to another room, albeit with only one bed instead of two, in less than a minute. The manager was nice and the only reason we stayed at all. Nowhere were we told we would share a hallway with what felt like the Marlboro test lab. If a hotel is going to subject their residents to such conditions, the residents should be told in advance rather than when they step off of the elevator.
The breakfast was merely ok, and the accommodations were standard otherwise. I will not stay here again.

The Best Western Plus University Inn was wonderful. We stayed for a weekend when picking my daughter up from the University. Very easy to find (arrived late in the evening), very helpful staff, exceptionally clean rooms and common areas. The breakfast was typical, but very good. We also enjoyed the pool and outdoor seating areas. I will be staying at this hotel anytime I visit Wilmington.

Arrived Friday night and they couldn’t find my reservation. They did try to help by offering me a smoking room on the forth floor (smoking floor) but the scent was nasty in the hall. Got back to my office on monday and found the confirmation number so called them back. Apparently someone had misspelled my name when typing it in and they had charged me a no show fee! thankfully Morgan got it all squared away with one phone call. So there is the good and the bad of it.

Hotel is reasonably new and clean. Staff (Morgan) was cute, helpful, and efficient.
Complimentary breakfast is the usual buffet style plus do-​it-​yourself waffle maker. They have two of them, which is nice when things get busy in the morning.
No complaints.
