Great pub food and service. I would go back for the Shepherds Pie the Ruben and the onion rings. The whole place has tv screens in view and good beers on tap.

Keep looking unless you are just staying in the DoubleTree and need a drink. The bar’s tap lines were down and the tv/speaker systems were out of sync so it was a poor choice to watch the Monday Night Football game. I was surprised that this could happen at a hotel bar. The nachos were unreal as in covered in nacho cheese sauce and two slices of pepper for a $ 12 place. About the only redeeming thing about this place is that the server removed this dish from the bill. However I will say the grilled chicken dinner with sweet potato fries was a marked improvement and earned the second star.

I have eaten here several times, as I stay at the double tree for business on a monthly basis. Their menu sounds good, but the food, even the house specialties, are less than appetitzing. The service is poor for the most part. Today I dined alone and was given my food a long with a single fork. No silverware set, and not even a napkin. On a few occasions me and my group also recieved our orders/tickets incorrectly. Honestly, if I had a car and wasn’t confined to the hotel, I’d rather eat other places. Anywhere but here. Its also expensive and not worth the money. Staff is friendly though. Lauren is always great and accommodating when you’re lucky enough to get her as a server.

So what do you look for in a hotel bar and restaurant? It should be good sized, so you don’t feel cramped. Well you won’t feel cramped at all here, Shades is huge with a big bar, big dining rooms, and a few sweet upholstered seating nooks. They should have a Happy Hour right? Well Shades does –with lots of bar appetizers from $ 5 — $ 8 and $ 4 beers. They even have free food in the person of a nacho bar so you can load up on chips, salsa, sour cream, cheese, jalapenos, and taco meat if that’s your thing. The service should be friendly, courteous, efficient and friendly, right? It sure was –very nice folks everywhere(especially the young lady bartender in the Victor Cruz jersey!). About 20 of us were here after work yesterday and we had a very good time at Shades, the house restaurant at the Doubletree hotel near the airport. I enjoyed the nacho bar, and sampled a variety of appetizers– bacon wrapped scallops, some GREAT Ahi tuna bites, some tender calamari with a great tomato sauce. Someone at the table ordered a bruschetta that looked like a dessert that was actually an optical illusion! What looked like vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce turned out to be mozzarella slices with balsamic; a pretty cool and creative presentation. Bottom line is this– we had a terrific time and I was very impressed with Shades.

For a hotel bar it’s very nice! Happy hour is fantastic! Offer prime carving station on Tuesday, pasta night on Wednesday and its free. Too bad people take advantage of their hospitality. Menu is average. Sevice is great! Very nice bartenders and very attentive. Very good for sports with many TV’s and the NFL ticket

Type of order: Sit down meal, dinner Food Quality: Good to very good. Steak ordered was mediocre, maybe better than I remember. Nachos were unreal; incredible amount of cheese, and accoutrements. Service: Nice service, attentive, made sure drinks were always full. Very good. Atmosphere: Very nice, pseudo hotel /sports bar mix with nice furniture. Nice place for business travelers to stop, grab food and a drink. Overall Experience: Definitely will be back. A bit on the expensive side, but overall a very nice experience. Mostly business travelers as the customers, from what I could tell. Not a place to meet singles, lol. Recommend Rating: Would recommend strongly, especially if you’re traveling, and staying in town.

This place had great vibes and a friendly staff. The breakfast buffet was good and that surprised me lol. I would have liked to have seen what the night activity was like but I did not have enough time maybe next time. I would return and I plan to. All and all I would say eating there is a good move

After eating here several times, I’ve had to lower the rating due to several episodes of poor service and average food. Plus, They must have their lines crossed, because I promise you, whatever is coming out of the«Coors Light» tap is NOT Coors Light…

First, it’s cold enough to hang meat. Menu looked typical of pub food. Ordered a beer from tap and the ribeye. Beer came fast enough and then the dinner plate. Ribeye was ordred medium rare — viola! It comes out well done. Manger tried to make it right and asked what I was drinking — a black and tan is not pilsner in color. They jacked my order up form the begining. I did not get charged for anything but the beer, but come on, it was not even busy, maybe half full and they can’t a single dinner’s order even close to correct. Stay away.

Very overpriced. Drink prices severely inflated to cover the cost of the marginal happy hour food. The atmosphere is comfortable. Nothing more than a run of the mill airport hotel lounge.

My husband and I are Shade rewards members for the past 2 years. We have had many good meals there and we were surprised at the quality for«hotel food». There have been some changes there lately and they are not for the better. The staff, who’ve always been pleasant, appear to be walking on eggshells, and there is a new face who is omnipresent. It appears to an outsider that this gentleman is the new manager, and he’s attempting to micromanage everything. The quality of the food has gone down hill. The baked potato was an all purpose variety and the sea scallops I ordered were the smallest I’ve seen. I even asked if I received the appetizer scallops by mistake. The salad that was served with the dinner was served in the smallest salad bowl I’ve ever seen. The happy hour is still very good, but the atmosphere doesn’t feel too happy anymore. I truly hope things turn around.

Very average. Ordered mini sliders and fries. Veggie wrap was very bland, no flavor.

This place is cool because they are open late. I never really like the food when I come here but it’s the late option aside from driving to hartford for something late. Tonight I ordered the chicken broccoli Alfredo. It taste so bland and crappy. I wish they had a real chef come up with some good stuff. If they could pull off some reductions sauces from the meat, render some flavor, deglaze with some wine or buy some better ingredients maybe they could have some happy customers. Something that made me upset is that the bartender tossed my food over and never made eye contact. I needed Parm and pepper. Aside from that I asked about the salad I did not receive 10 minutes later when I flagged her down. She said«I’ll give it to you», like it was a privilege that I could get the dinner salad that never came with my meal after the pasta was already delivered getting cold. I just hope the owner reads this and makes some changes. This place could have so much potential. I find it strange that the restaurant is so nice but the food and service is so drab. If the food matched the quality of the construction and quality of the place I would be very happy. It’s not the first time I had to do the eye scan for the staff for a drink or some help with something. Now I have to pay for this crap lol.

We flew in late at night and needed to find a restaurant that would serve food after midnight. We drove from restaurant to restaurant using the Unilocal«open now» filter only to be turned away at several places. We struck gold here. I was vacillating between the meatloaf and steak tips. The waitress pointed me to the meatloaf and it was FANTASTIC. at the table also was a chicken sandwich, a cheesesteak sandwich and potato skins. Everything was hot, timely and good. The waitress let us squeeze in an extra cold beer before last call. The selection was great(both for food and beer) and the food was much better than anticipated for the last restaurant open, in a hotel lobby, at one in the morning on a Wednesday. Sweet waitress was on the ball.

The food was rather plain and overpriced for what it was. I would not come here for a special meal. Lots of TVs for watching sport in the bar dining area. Only came here as was staying at the hotel and did not want to go out. Service was okay. Nothing to get excited about. Three stars average. Chocolate cheesecake was a good desert and made up for the entrée. Cake was just the right size. Any bigger and I would have overdosed on chocolate. Very rich.

Attached to the Doubletree Hotel, this is a nice little place to enjoy some refreshments or have a bite to eat. Came here at night with my crew for some food and beverages, and had a great experience. They have a decent beer list– nothing exceptional, but definitely something for everyone. Bud/Miller/Coors Lite kinda night? They’ve got you covered. Want something with a bit of personality, like a Dogfish Head 60IPA? Done and DONE. They have a nice long martini list as well if you feel like raising a pinkie and getting fancy. Their food is good. It’s damned good, actually. I ordered the scallops appetizer and the seared tuna appetizer. Both were damned fine. Not amazing, but damned fine. The scallops were a little small and overcooked, and the sauce was too heavy for scallops, but I wasn’t really *disappointed*, I just would have done things differently. The tuna was really nice, with a great crust of goma. The next morning(while recovering from the beers I’d slaughtered the night before) I ordered myself a Ribeye in order to celebrate the Easter holiday. Now, this meal gets the restaurant an extra star by itself. It was FANTASTIC. I asked for medium rare, they gave me EXACTLY medium rare. Perfectly marbled and still on the bone, with flavor for days. The mashed potatoes were excellent– still just a LITTLE bit of skin on ‘em, the way that I like it. And the vegetable medley was exactly that– it was a jubilee celebration of vitamins and minerals consisting of squash, carrots, onion, and several other veggies. Definitely NOT one of those limpid little affairs that you see at most places. This was a GREAT hangover meal, and honestly it just knocked me back on track to tackle the rest of my day. When I’m in the area, I definitely look forward to eating here again!

Clean, quiet, comfortable bar area with friendly staff. I ordered a cup of the New England Clam Chowder and the Mozzarella wedges with Marinara sauce. Both were very tasty and satisfying. The soup was a little«thin» but had a lot if flavor and a good amount of clams; not just a bunch of potatoes. The Marinara Sauce for the mozzarella wedges was very good. A little on the sweet side, but well prepared and fresh. The order came with 6 triangle wedges which is enough to share. I’d order either, or both dishes again.

I stayed at the doubletree and had lunch and a couple of drinks the night before. They have a good selection of microbrews and they tasted clean. That definitely made it a worthwhile visit. Bartender was also nice and attentive. At lunch, Salad bar was fresh, but limited dressings. Had the chicken avocado sandwich. The chicken and the sweet potato fries were a little overdone, but acceptable for bar food.

Don’t even bother. Stayed @ the DoubleTree on an overnight. Second time eating here and the food is crap — the service is worse. Got the chic parm sandwich and the chicken was almost burnt in the fryer. Fries were WAY overcooked. My friend had the French Dip and the Aujus dip sauce was pure salt. Does any management taste the product??? WTH??? First time I ate here — got the open faced meatloaf sandwich and the gravy was horrible and the potatoes were soupy!!! I’ll never eat here again!

I feel very medium about this place. I mean… I don’t actively to the area with the intention on eating here. I don’t sit down in my house and think, I should really go to Shade for dinner tonight. But, when I do end up here… its never bad. It is never off the charts either… always medium. Unfortunately there isn’t much to choose from in the immediate area, which is something that needs to be worked on because the airport is pretty much two feet away and when people are here for the night and need a quick bite… there are only a handful of places they can end up without venturing too far. If there was something unique about this place — they had a brewery, they had 8,000 TVs, you wear funny hats when you eat… any of that would make it stand out a little more. But, good value, decent beer selection, and medium food. Not really a place you go to, more of a place you just end up at.
