This is the best yarn store around I like it even better than WEBS. I think their selection is great(not EVERYthing costs an arm and a leg) and I have found all the employees consistently helpful, if not always with the same taste. You can wander for hours or get help almost immediately(unless they’re very busy), take inexpensive classes or sign up for a cheap private lesson, and see examples of how their employees have used almost every yarn in the store in various finished objects. A real winner!

While I used to shop at Creative Fibers often, and still go to the store once or twice a year, I have since found other local yarn shops with more consistent service and better prices. On the upside, Creative Fibers has one of the largest stores and broadest selections around. You will not find a better range of products unless you make the trip up to WEBS. On the downside, Creative Fibers employees are hit-or-miss and prices tend to be somewhat on the high side. The owner of the store(Laura) is very pleasant, friendly, and helpful — I wish I could say the same of some of her employees. When entering the store with one or both of my small children in tow, I’ve been greeted with rude looks, rolled eyes, and outright hostility — even once when I had only a newborn asleep in her stroller! If I go in sans kids, the same employees will welcome me. Laura and one other employee are not like this, and are kind and engaging with the kids, but other employees have been jerks for no reason. Maybe they’ve been on the receiving end of kids running amok with inattentive parents. Still, the attitude does not make me inclined to stop in when we’re in that part of the state unless I don’t have my children with me. I’ve also experienced rudeness from employees when asking if there are additional balls of a particular dye lot, if they think a certain colorway would look nice in a pattern that they’re selling, or if they can recommend a pattern to use with a specific yarn. If you’re a more occasional shopper rather than one of their regulars/class attendees, several employees feel that you’re not worth helping. The degree of helpfulness of these employees seems to correlate with how much money they think you’ll be spending/the cost of the yarn in your basket. Again, they’re not all like this, but a few bad apples will spoil the bunch. Prices are average to high compared to other local yarn shops. I once bought a ball of sock yarn that was priced at $ 19.95 at Creative Fibers, only to find the exact same yarn and colorway for $ 8.95 at a different LYS, and for $ 8 at a large online yarn store. Even workhorse/basic yarns tend to cost a bit more at Creative Fibers.

I love this yarn store! They have a huge selection of yarns, really helpful staff and they offer classes at reasonable rates on comfy couches with a nice conversation flow. It always feels so warm, inviting and relaxing in here that I could just meander for a while! It’s a small place but it’s jam packed with amazing stuff. In addition to yarn, they also sell crochet hooks, knitting needles, specialty buttons, patterns and anything else you need to make a beautiful keepsake.

I went to this store on the recommendation of a friend and was not disappointed. Talked with one of the staff and she was really friendly and extremely helpful. I had quite a few questions concerning needles and some knitting techniques and she walked me through all I needed to know. She informed me about classes and events coming up in the near future. I would definitely recommend this place and plan on going back. They have an extensive selection of yarn, books and needles!
