Just came by here again last night and have to say I am continuously impressed by the food and service. Yes they are very busy, but that’s a good sign! Be prepared to wait a bit. Food is always amazing and fresh.

Relaxed environment. Waitresses were attentive and kind. Salmon roll and deep-fried snow crab were pretty good. I will definitely go back.

We thought we would try out a new sushi place so we checked out Ume tonight. We were seated right away and given warm towels for our hands. Then we sat there for 15 minutes and no one came over to get our drink order or say anything. Other people were seated and had drinks and placed their orders, servers were walking by and NO one said anything to us. We finally just walked out and still no one said anything to us or acknowledged us! Maybe their sushi is good, but we will not be going back to find out.

This place deserves six stars. My cousins took us there last week. We ordered the Lion king, regal, and Oscars rolls. Wow. I have eaten a lot of sushi in my time but I’m pretty sure this is the best. If I’m correct, the Oscar roll came out last. And it was a grand finale indeed. Truly the most delicious sushi I have ever had.

Soup was good. Salad was soggy. I’m not usually a roll guy but I had a spider roll and it was the worst I’ve ever had. Crab was soggy and so was the rice. Won’t be back. Server was very nice though.

I really love sushi an Japanese food an this place is really good for the price. Average priced but really good quality. My only complaint would be the service, the waitstaff was no friendly nor did they really serve us. We had to wave them down just to order, get water, an get the bill.

Two others and myself visited Ume for an early lunch today and it was not a disappointment in the least. Tasty Miso soup and salads before entrees. Ordered garden salad, Carburetor, and the Tonkatsu(Fried pork cutlets). All were tremendous, especially the Carburetor and Tonkatsu. Many comments gave negative reviews due to service, but we arrived around 11:30 without many in the restaurant, so cannot comment too much as our service was good. Cannot wait to stop by again and try some more rolls!

Ume has a great selection of different traditional Japanese dishes to choose from. On my last stop I went for the Chef’s Special the Tonkotsu Ramen which was hearty and had great flavor. Reasonable prices and lots of variety, Ume’s food keeps me coming back, excited to try something new.

So sad to report that the service here has gone to hell in a hand basket. The food has always been great here but recently there has been a shift in service from good to mediocre to I don’t give a crap about you cause we have enough customers. Such a shame cause I always enjoyed coming here but now I have to black list it cause of the crappy service.

As a sushi lover, I never expected good sushi in Windsor but this place has been consistent. Great selection of rolls without being smothered in sauce and the sushi and nigiri selection better than average. So why the three stars? It boils down to service. The wait staff is not very attentive and barely come and check on you. If they amped the service, I’d definitely give them another star. Regardless, I’ll definitely be back for their yummy ramen and good selection of fish and rolls.

I rank this sushi spot in the top 3 for Sonoma County. It is one of the best options. I rank it alongside Hana and Jo Jo. There are just a few things that keep me from giving it 5 stars. 1. The speed of service is inconsistent. During one recent visit we waited almost an hour for our sushi order. And none of the staff realized the problem or sought to fix the problem or apologize. 2. When they are super busy, their sushi quality decreases. So if you walk in and see a packed place, it may be best to leave. 3. They charge for hot tea. In spite of the few issues, that lead to a lost star, this place is still really great. Just go knowing the above and avoid busy nights. I recommend you try the tuna sushi roll that has peaches on top. Very unique and delicious. They also have great sake and a super fun sake sampler. Try it out if you are in the mood. Yummm

This was a pleasant find for my wife and i, who were just passing through the area. The sushi was great, the prices were normal for your average sit-down sushi joint. The restaurant was very relaxing. If i lived in the areA, i would probably frequent this place quite a bit.

Great miso ramen, great tempura, great udon, good sushi rolls. My favorite is the miso ramen! Service can be hit or miss, depending on time of day and who’s waiting on you. It can take awhile to get served, and on several occasions, people who arrived after us were waited on first. Portions are generous, prices are fair if slightly on the higher side. Parking lot is too small, if you show up during lunch or dinner rush, you’ll have to hoof it from down the street. It’s probably my favorite Japanese/sushi place in Sonoma County, just edging out Hana in Rohnert Park.

Can’t believe I never mentioned Ume on Unilocal. We’ve been here at least a dozen times and the food never disappoints. The sushi and sashimi are always pristine in quality and there is an extensive variety of tasty rolls. The carburetor, old redwood and summer cooler have been some of our recent choices for the rolls. Service is always attentive and helpful. Ume can occasionally get backed up when they are busy but it’s never a significant problem. They have a nice patio with overhead heaters for those cool nights. Looked inviting on a recent visit, maybe next time. I know Hana has their fans and we have enjoyed meals there as well but for us Ume is as good and the location(Windsor) can’t be beat.

Ume is a decent joint although to be honest I usually order my food to go(tends to be my company’s cafeteria). I usually get a dynamite roll which consists of spicy mayo n scallops. Other wise I get the mayo prawns, which are pretty darn tasty. The dinner meal has a ton of food that can probably be split into two meals.

The first thing I noticed on the outside of the restaurant was that there was the warning of drought and that they wouldn’t be serving water unless asked. When we were seated we were immediately given water. I had ordered the seaweed salad to share and a miso soup to start for my newphew. I had ordered some standard rolls(California, salmon skin, Philadelphia, Rainbow) and something different called a Tiger tail roll. The Tiger tail basically a spicy tuna that had apricot, avocado and salmon on top. It was good and a little different than what I’m used to having. I had ordered 4 pieces of nigiri unagi for my nephew but I ended up trying one piece. The unagi was perfect. Besides the unagi that was exceptional everything else I had at Ume wasn’t that special. The food was good but I can’t say anything really blew me away. The service was very attentive and friendly but as far as Japanese goes I would have to say it’s just at par from what I’m used to having. Maybe I was expecting more flash or presentation based on the upscale décor and ambiance but it never really translated to the plates. Still the place deserves 3 stars for being good.

Restaurant Week 2014($ 15/pp lunch) I’ve heard about Ume whispered through the sushi community, but it was hard for me to even think about going somewhere when my true and forever love is Hana Rohnert Park. That said, Restaurant Week is all about broadening horizons and showing love to the local foodie community, and after a positive experience with their sister restaurant Chinois Bistro, I decided to give them a try. Parking was challenging at best, during the lunch hour, and we ended up parking in the residential section of the nearby neighborhood. On my way to the restaurant I was serenaded by mariachi music coming from the open hood of a broken down Chevy someone was working on in their driveway, along with being blasted from landscape blowers at the park. Once inside, the atmosphere was relaxed, hushed, and subtle. I noticed the majority of the diners were in business attire, which I took as a good sign, because I too only have a designated lunch hour. We were seated, looked over the menu, and ordered. First, we ordered the Vegetarian Gyoza($ 6.95), then my mom ordered the Restaurant Week Pre Fix menu($ 15), and I opted for the Nabeyaki Udon($ 14.50). We were immediately brought miso and salad, both of which were average, not stunning, not terrible, but then came disaster. It literally took us half an hour to get our pot stickers. HALFANHOUR! For something that was most likely pre-made, or at least pre-assembled. I was in shock. Thankfully they were solid, but once again, not stunning, not terrible. The wait however, was terrible. We flagged down the server to let her know we had a time limit, and she nodded. We asked for our bill probably two separate times, and another 15⁄20 minutes later, the manager or owner came out and told us our entrees were almost done. At that point, we had to take everything to go because we essentially waited an hour for average potstickers and a cup of soup. I was both frustrated and hungry as we paid the bill, but at the last moment, the manager/owner gave me a gift certificate for $ 10 to encourage me to go back and give them another try. I hadn’t eaten my entrée yet at that point, so I had no idea if I was going to want to return, but I was grateful for her gesture. Once I got to work, I opened the neatly packed to-go bag and at that moment, my whole life changed. The most magical and ethereal steam wafted to my nose, like unicorns made out of kettle corn that were laughing stardust. The smell was a glorious mixture of the most perfectly balanced Udon sauce, and delicate fried tempura prawns. My brain was working so fast, I didn’t even stop to take a picture. THAT my dear friends, is how good this concoction smelled. LEAH didn’t even take a picture. Even in the plastic to-go containers, the Udon noodles were fat and happy, cooked to perfection. Veggies were al dente, mushrooms were fresh, chicken was lightly toasted, and the prawn tempura, I will have dreams about. Nabeyaki soup base was effortlessly balanced, both salty and sweet, with a mineral/meat/umani base that was literally perfect. Despite my negative start to this event, I can assure you, nay, PROMISE you, that I will be back to Ume. Next time, however, I will call and place my order an hour prior, and enjoy my nabeyaki Udon in its sweet, blissful serenity.
