Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen

Came here with coworkers for lunch. Ordered tortilla chips with cheese dip. Delicious! We all ordered sandwiches. Mine was burnt, the other one was cold, and the third was fine. The waiter kept spilling drinks on the food and on us. When we complained about the burnt sandwich, the waiter claimed he would send the manager over. Never saw him. After we were all done eating what portions of our food we were already eating, the waiter tells us that the sandwich will be remade. ??? We were DONE eating already! Where was the manager? The service was garbage. And, yes, the remade sandwich was burnt and dry just like the first one. This place is terrible. Will not be back.

I travel weekly with my job and depend on Unilocal and it’s ratings frequently. I was surprised to this Cheddar’s location with a 2.5 rating. I ate there twice this week and as usual in other locations I’ve visited all was good, especially the onion rings! Whatever may have been an issue in the past is in the past.

Not impressesed. Ordered an appetizer sampler as my meal… they were out of one of the 3 items that came with it. The refused to substitute anything other than fries. I ordered another appetizer which took forever to come out, and when it did it looked like it had been slapped on the plate.
At the end the waitress acted like she had done us a favor and took the food I never recieved off our bill! They still charged us for everything else though, including the 3 crescent rolls for $ 3 that she brought out to apologize for our wait! What a rip off! No manager came to apologize, waitress didn’t seem to care. We won’t ever be going back to cheddars or recommending it to anyone! Don’t waste your money!

Once again Cheddars impressed my friends and I. When came to have a good time and Cheddars delivered more than just food. We ordered the Triple Threat appetizer and found out the name fits the bite!

Always good food and service I look forward to coming here! The Mac and cheese is real good.

I was contacted by Cheddars corporate office a few months ago which put me in contact with the general manager of the Cheddars. He explained why the tortilla chips were soaked in grease. They had ran out of their normal ones so those were store bought and fried. He did acknowledge that may not have been the best practice to employ. He was very friendly and nice, he offered to have a guest and I come back out to Cheddars. He offered for us to come out during his shift, however I do not live in Winston Salem. I explain to him my schedule and the next time I would be in town. We could not find a mutually agreeable time so he opted to send me gift certificates. He did send the gift certificates in the amount of 20 dollars total. I have not used them and do not plan on using them. However the general manager was very apologetic, nice and understanding. I wouldn’t eat there again but I did want to update just to say they do care about what their customers have to say.
I am leaving my review at one star because undeveined shrimp, faulty cocktails, cold spinach dip, and grease filled tortilla chips are never ok in my book.

I go here occasionally when visiting my dad in Winston and I can honestly say that it is consistently good food and when you take into consideration the incredibly low price points for everything on the menu, it is a great value. I usually opt for the vegetable plate (4 vegetables and roll) for $ 7 or so. Nom nom nom. If you want a five star experience, go somewhere with 5 star pricing! Service is always good.

My wife and I went there for my Birthday. We ordered the Tuscan grilled Chicken sandwich which we split, we thought it was to have a Basel sauce on it. We felt we never got the Basel sauce and the sandwich was dry. Our fries were cold and soggie. We also had an appetizer of fried onion rings. We both felt they were undercooked and had very little taste. Not our best experience there.

I met my father here on Christmas Eve for dinner. We got seated right away. We waited more then usual for our drink order to be taken so I finally got the waitresses attention. She informed us she’d be happy to take our drink order but she would not be our waitress. Right at that time our waitress did show up and took over. My dish was good. I choose the steak and chicken finger combo. The Chicken Fingers were so tender and the steak was pretty good. The food could have been served a little hotter, mine was kinda luke warm. Over all I did enjoy the meal and the atmosphere of this place.

No rating on my end because it’s the worst service ever, or better put no service at all. Looks like I have to give them a 1 star. We were seated and waited just over 15 minutes and no one even acknowledged us. Got up walked to the front and ask for the manager. I told him the problem. Despite him offering to buy our dinner we walked. First time there and the last time!

Went here for lunch today and it was great as usual! I ordered the lunch portion of the grilled blackened catfish paired with broccoli and a baked potato (butter only). The fish was the best I have had in a very long time. It was absolutely delicious. The potato and broccoli were cooked perfectly and was great with the fish. Not to mention, it also came with seasoned rice.
I would have to say this is my new favorite entrée from Cheddars (it’s low calorie too)! We also were approached by a chef and given queso and chips «on him»! Today was a great experience! Our server was wonderful too!

I really like this place. I’ve been here three times now, and had three great meals. The service can sometimes have a few hiccups, but the wait staff is always friendly and helpful. I can’t believe you can get a full rack of ribs for 16 bucks. This is four to five bucks cheaper than everyone else, and the ribs are much larger and meatier then a lot of places, especially Chili’s crappy ass ribs. I hate to say it but this place is so good they’ll probably close soon.

Wow what a great place ! Just visited town and heard all about this place. Our waiter went to my old high school and he was just fantastic. I had the smoke house burger which was okay but the queso with beef was on point. Our waiter suggested the Lemon pepper chicken and salmon. Should’ve took his advice but the menu is huge and everything looks great!

The whole experience was bad. The person bussing the table behind us spilled a drink down my leg to begin with. The table was clean but the seats were filthy.
Spinach and artichoke dip was hot and cheesy. Then the entrees came. My steak was bad. Over cooed and tough. The broccoli casserole was cold. At lest the baked potato was good.
My wife said her monte cristo was good but that the fries were cold.
Will not be returning for a second time.

This place was terrible. It smelled like they mopped the floors with dirty water. I received a dirty appetizer plate and my main dish was ice cold in the center.
The waiter asked if the manager came by to speak with us, but he didn’t. They did take my dish off our bill, but not coming by just shows he didn’t feel like dealing with the customer. I am hoping we don’t get food poisoning from this place.

I’ve been frequenting at Cheddars for some time now. Let me start by saying I refused to eat there thanks to the awful reviews. We started off at the bar. It has to be my favorite place to drink. The atmosphere doesn’t make it a great place to drink, neither does the fact that the golf channel is on all the time, but the drinks are delish & super cheap! I’m a fan of cheap & delicious. The painkiller is awesome (they’ll only serve you 2) it’s strong. It’s like a trip to an island coconut & pineapple yum! I love the spiked strawberry lemonade & my sister swears the mojitos took her back to trips to Florida. I tried the blackened salmon the past couple of times & it was great! Love the flavor. You get 2 sides. Their mashed potatoes are great too. Oh & the croissants are delishhhhh! The service can be kind of slow, but I mean you’re in the South!

Such a good place to eat. I was served by Zach Williford (?) he was a great server — timely, polite and respectable. I will be coming back!!!

Arrived on a Thursday evening, you could tell it was slow. Waited to be seated, took forever to be greeted by our server. So long we ordered our meal, and I love appetizers. Salad was good. Croissants amazing. Tea horrible, server was more concerned with sidework than service. Let me reiterate the service is the worst I have had in years. Main course was fair not bad but not great either. I understand why there is no one in here.

My brother recommended this place and it turns out to be a really great place to eat. The food is delicious, the atmosphere is relaxing and the customer service was great. (Except for the hostess) other than that my visit was great!

I went with a group of 6. It was all of our 1^st times there. We are a very particular group so we had a LOT of questions. But our waitress was very helpful in making sure they got answered. Even if she had to run to the back to find the answer. I like that their menu is so customizable. For example, you see a sauce that you may like on a different dish, no problem, they can put that sauce on whatever dish you’d like with no questions asked. We ordered a few appetizers which included the Spinach Dip, Cheese Bites, and Potato Skins. They were all so good! The Spinach Dip was my favorite. Though I enjoyed the Cheese Bites, they were very salty. We all ordered different dishes and we all enjoyed our food. We all sampled each others and no one had a complaint, except for the Broccoli Cheese Casserole, its not your mommas lol. The drinks were DELICIOUS as well! As far as the environment, it was very loud if you ask me. Very busy. But it was ok for a nice ladies night dinner. Theres more i’d like to try so i’ll definitely be returning.

This place is the worst. We got greeted by a seemingly absent minded hostess who just stared at us after we walked in and seemed less then thrilled we arrived at 10pm when they close at 11pm.
Waiters were on there cellphones in the middle of the restaurant and the waitresses leaving the restaurant were too busy gossiping to say hello… Even though they were clearly in uniform.
We got seated and we ordered there version of cheese fries. Pretty simple can’t mess that up. But then came the food. Cold… I mean stone cold. No apologies by our waitress. They said «our kitchen wants to leave and they are rushing food out» … Are you serious. It’s 10:15pm by the way. 45 minutes before they close.
Our waitress again never apologized but acted as if that was an actual proper excuse. I asked for the manger which she just walked away and seemingly told him only to tell us it would be a moment because he was cashing someone out… Are you

He arrived mid conversation with another waiter and addressed the table as if we requested his presence with no apparent issue. We got our meal taken off the bill… Although it was the wrong entrée…
Simply terrible. You would have to be a fool to give your money here. This is Winston Salem, there are plenty of options for privately owned establishments to spend your money not this incompetent place for mediocre food and horrendous service.
The fish tank was cool. That’s it.

Usually, I LOVE Cheddars. It was my go to place when I lived in Texas. I would got there almost weekly with work friends. My husband and I arrived here at about 7:15 on the evening of Saturday February 7. The place was packed, but I was craving their croissants and chicken fingers.
We were told it’d be a 30 – 45 minute wait… no big deal, it’s Saturday night, everywhere is packed. We went to the bar for a drink. That went smoothly, we paid and went back to wait for our table, so others could sit at the bar. My Mojito was ok… I’ve had better. My husband didn’t get an adult beverage as we don’t drink and drive.
Shortly after our buzzer went off and we got our table. We waited maybe 15 minutes… not bad. Very soon after we were seated we were greeted by a very friendly and bubbly server. SHE was the best part of our experience, her name was Tiara. We ordered an appetizer while I tried to figure out what I wanted. I wanted to think at least a little bit out of my box. Our spinach d came quickly and was delicious like always, so far not bad.
I know when a restaurant is packed, the kitchen can get backed up that’s understandable. The amount of time it took our door to come out was ridiculous. Our waitress was checking on us frequently, my husband never saw the bottom of his soda.
I ordered the grilled shrimp and chicken fingers combo with a loaded baked potato and broccoli cheese casserole. I did not get my casserole, but my server brought it out very quickly along with my husbands missing side. He ordered steak and grilled shrimp with broccoli and corn. The corn was missing. Overall the meal was good, until we got to our shrimp
Our shrimp was NOT DEVEINED! Big fat black lines down 3 of my 4 shrimp. My husband had one. This is the shrimps intestine… and when it is black… it is POOP! We were served poopy shrimp. I’m my book this is COMPLETELY unacceptable. I mean, I know this isn’t a 5star joint with all classically trained Gordon Ramsay clones, but this is just common sense. It completely ruined my meal.
I may go back, when it is not busy. However, I will not order beyond drinks and appetizers because that seems to be all they can do well at this location.
We got out of there at about 10pm… so almost 3 hours.

Service was great, no problems there. Food was so-​so. We have been twice now and tried different things and haven’t been wowed yet.

I went here last weekend and ordered the lunch special. I got a caesar salad and half of a club sandwich. The salad was great. The sandwich tasted just like a club sandwich, nothing special. Overall, it was a good amount of food for the price.

Other reviewers have spoken true. This place has its issues.
Stopped into Cheddar’s pretty late (around 9:45 on a Sunday night) so I wasn’t necessarily expecting the best experience. The place was basically empty so I figured at least the service would be good and quick.
Our party of four ordered pretty basic things: soup, salad, chicken tenders, burgers. The soups took a pretty long time to come out which didn’t bode well for the rest of the experience. Nonetheless, people who got soups said they were good.
The entrees took WAY too long to come out given the empty restaurant. Maybe the kitchen had started shutting down early. The salads were big and my friends seemed to enjoy them. I got chicken tenders with fries and rice and beans. The rice and beans CLEARLY had been in a warmer for way too long. They practically had a crust. The tenders were fine. I believe had the plate had 3 sizable tenders. I still expected maybe one more for the price.
The checks took too long too.
Our waitress was very nice but the speed of the service can’t be overlooked and is the primary cause for the 2 star rating.
The interior of the restaurant was attractive however, it was REALLY dark inside.
Sorry Cheddar’s, I’ll pass on a return visit.
