Really good grilled chicken salad. Service was good and attentive at the bar. Good place to stop when passing through.

I used to LOVE the Village Tavern, but over the last couple of years, I have found their food quality has severely diminished and I think they have become overly fond of the microwave. The last time I was there, I ordered the carrot cake and the icing was bubbled up and disgusting looking. I complained and the waitress took it off my bill, but it was the final straw… haven’t been back since. There are many great restaurants in Winston and my suggestions is that you try one of those before wasting your money on high-priced-microwaved-food.

I always come here, and eat dinner in the bar when I visit Winston for work. The atmosphere is very nice but the best part are the people that work here, they make you feel like you are part of the family. My understanding is that most of the employees here have been around for 10+ years that says a lot about the owner, and management of the restaurant. I can’t say enough about the food, there is nothing on this menu that you order that you won’t like. I just found out they have one in Scottsdale so I shall be visiting when I go back home. The thing that will be missing is that Laurie, from the bar won’t be in Scottsdale.

Being hungry and staying within walking distance Well…here I am. Greeted by Whitney the bartender All smiles and personality. To my surprise she was able to make me a pear martini… this one was made with pear vodka and champagne has the main ingredients… YUMMY! also had their fried oysters and ahi tuna… DELICIOUS! the sauces served with these brought out the flavors. Actually had a second order of their oysters… tasty. They had a extensive menu with salads, steaks, pastas… Good for all eaters, fussy ones too…

We fell in love with this place! We were visiting from California and decided to stop in for a drink and some dinner our first night. We had the Bayou Shrimp. We told the waiter we would just share a plate as we weren’t that hungry. They brought us two full plates! We said that we didn’t order two, but that was one order! So much food! It was so good we went back the next night. First off, the bartender saw us and had our drinks poured before we even sat down! We had the Cajan seafood fettuccine and the crab cakes. Both were absolutely awesome! The carrot cake was to die for! I could go on and on but I’ll just end by saying some of the best food, the best service and nicest people we have ever had! A must go!

We came with a large group after a soccer tournament. It was prom night and they found a place for us on short notice. We had 20 people and half were a bunch of rowdy boys. The waitress was attentive and was accurate on all our checks. The food was fresh and delicious. I had the seared tuna app and French onion soup. Yummy. My husband had a Spanish chicken dish. He loved it. Everyone was pleased. We would return if in the area.

I have had their burgers a couple of times and they were decent. Tonight I thought of trying something new. Tonight I tried the shrimp and grits. The grits were creamy and had the right amount of cheese as well. The shrimp were cooked right and thankful the tails were removed unlike some others I have had. Could have used a little more bacon but I am a bacon a holic so always want more. The nice thing is it was good size pieces not little bacon bits. Had some spice to it so keep that in mind if you don’t like a lot of spice I had take out so I can’t comment on the service. They seemed to be busy with several people waiting for tables which is usually a good sign they put out a great product. Definitely will dine here again.

We had a wonderful luncheon with our large family of 20 out on the patio for my mother’s 97th birthday. The food was so yummy and the staff so friendly and helpful. Most of us had steak or shrimp scampi. Both were some of the best we’ve ever had. Very reasonable prices for first rate food. We had such a great experience and hope to come back soon. Thank you so much for the fabulous food and service, Village Tavern. Sweet!

Found this restaurant near the hotel. First of all the servers and bar staff are the greatest. Don’t know if is the Southern hospitality or the the nature of the employees, but, the are friendly and looking out for the customers. I had the Cubanos sliders and the flatbread. Bothe were very good. The sauce was very well down and the dough was perfect. The Cubanos have large chunks of pulled pork and with their sauce, what a great sandwich. Got three of them on the plate. The bar is a bit upscale but inviting. Good location and great earring area. Guy next me has the Asian salad and it looked good. He said it was very good. Good first try may a stop in the future on my next trip through the area

My boyfriend and I were in town for a few days and decided to grab dinner here from word of mouth and some not too shabby Unilocal reviews. First let me start by saying that I am not a fan of chain type establishments, however; I was pleasantly surprised by this place. The food was solid, great flat bread tavern pizza and fresh delicious salads. We also had the bayou shrimp which was good but could have used a little more spice. Overall the food was fresh and delicious. We were also lucky enough to have Jennifer as our waitress. She was extremely helpful in helping us decide what to order as well as on top of every aspect of our dining experience. I truly believe service like that would keep me coming back even if the food was just mediocre(which it wasn’t). We were too full for dessert but will be going back next time we are in town.

I had high expectations going here and I was a little let down right off the bat. We had a reservation for 6:15 and we arrived at around 6:10. Didn’t get seated until 6:30. Normally I don’t mind waiting a bit, but when you have a reservation you should be seated at your reservation time, not 15 minutes after. Moving on… I requested a booth in my reservation as I don’t like sitting in the middle of a restaurant. The hostess proceeds to sit us in the SMALLEST booth I have ever seen in my life. We both had our winter coats and with no coat hangers we were crammed to death in this thing. Imagine the small Wendy’s booths they have, now cut that in half… that’s what this thing was like. We literally had space for 1 plate each and a glass of water. Sorry, but when I make a reservation at a nice place several days in advance and request a booth… I don’t expect to be seated in the smallest one you have. And yes I looked around, no other booths in the entire restaurant were as small as this one. After our waiter came by and took our drink orders, I went back to the hostess and told them our situation and asked to be re-seated in a proper booth. Thankfully, they did just that. So props to them! After being re-seated it was a night and day difference with more than enough room to put a plate on the table and 2 drinks each. We ordered nachos to start with and they were FANTASTIC, giant portion very good amount of toppings. So much in fact that we couldn’t finish our main meals. We both ordered burgers because they were commended. My dining partners veggie burger was excellent, but I ordered my normal burger cheeseburger medium well, but it came back well done with no pink at all… so it was dry compared to most burgers I have had. I could also tell it was super rushed, the cheese was halfway off the burger, so cheese wasn’t on top of all the meat. And the biggest complaint I had was the burger itself was in the shape of a small square, and only took up half the size of the bun. The fries were also those big steak fries and very starchy, with no seasoning and no crisp. So I didn’t finish those. The waiter we had was excellent, so we made sure to tip well and I will say they corrected their seating blunder. I would suggest to the management they do not sit people at the small booth who have a reservation, but instead sit only people who walk in without one. Overall not a bad place, just didn’t start well and I was not impressed by their burgers. Luckily their great waiter made up for most of the blunders or it would have been a 1 star from me.

Wow, is all I have to say. The food at Village Tavern never disappoints me! I hear people complain about the prices, and honestly they are a little, and I mean a little higher then other places around. However, the quality, and the quantity of what you get shows why they are a little higher price. Today I went for lunch, I had a hard time picking from the menu, it isn’t a huge menu, just too many… I want to try that items. I had a hard time between the meatloaf and the prime rib sandwich. Now when you read that you may say meatloaf and prime rib are on the opposite side of the spectrum. This is no ordinary meat leaf. In fact if you HATE meatloaf order it, you will be glad you did. It is basically a hamburger steak with this insanely good gravy. I HATE green beans and mushrooms. Yet my plate is very clean and praying there may be some left. It is GOOD! Today I went with the prime rib sandwich. I honestly think someone must have miss cut my slice it was a huge thick piece of perfectly cooked heaven. Honestly I think it had to be 8 – 10 oz of beef. The horseradish sauce was just right, not runny, not over the top hot, just right. However you have to request it. The au jus was not the best I’ve had. It isn’t salty like most, but it is overly rich and almost like it needs to be thinned out some more. The bread was nice a thick which this monster slab of beef need to support it. My wife got the BLT pimento cheese. Again not an ordinary BLT or pimento cheese. The bacon is this awesome smoked bacon, and candied. I’ve had the candied bacon from here before and today it was a little on the sweet side. However there must have been 6 – 8 slices of bacon on the sandwich. The pimento cheese was made from Kerrygold Irish cheddar. It is so mind numbing good! The worst part of today was our service, which was sad as it would have been a perfect lunch date. When we sat down I noticed the white napkin was noticeably dirty. The gentleman that sat us cleared the table of the extra silverware and plates. However I saw him out that napkin back up to use again. During out meal our waitress who was fairly attentive spilled my tea while refilling it. She said opps so I know she saw what happened. But she didn’t try to clean up this fairly good size puddle on the table. Typically I would say 5 out of 5. The food is easily so of the best in town with so many options for everyone. But the attention to detail by the staff kind of bums me out as they are typically top notch

This was the second time I’ve been here and it wasn’t all that great as the first. I got prime rib with rice pilaf. I wish the food had been sitting under a heat lamp when it was waiting to be brought to me, because it was a very cold steak and very cold rice. Two out of the four pieces of bread they brought to the table was rock hard. For a high dollar steak that I could have gotten elsewhere for a cheaper price, I was very disappointed. The service was fair.

The Tavern has always been a reliable place for a good meal. Many choices for the family with consistent good service. Nice large wood burning fireplace is the center point inside. The biggest disadvantage of the Tavern is the noise level. I find that you always have to raise your voice to have a conversation at the table, more so in the bar area. Must try the Organic Quinoa and kale salad. The Thai Chicken Skewers are also very good. My wife and I have ordered both in the past with the intention to share and several times the waitstaff split them before bringing out. Nice attention to detail. Wednesday’s are half price wine on glasses and bottles!!! Winner!

We have yet to actually dine at this location, we have had take out meals from here 2x so far. A friend recently brought us lunch from here and it was AMAZING! I have gotten the Cobb salad from here both times and I tell you, it is THEBEST Cobb salad I have ever had! Mmmmmmm… I seriously could go for one right now!!! Loaded with yummy toppings and the blue cheese dressing tastes homemade– love that!!! My husband has gotten the prime rib both times. He raves about how fantastic it is. The only negative about this location, which I didn’t even take any stars off for, is that we came here for a date night and it was SOPACKED and had such a long wait we walked in and walked right back out. There wasn’t room to sit at the bar and have a drink. There wasn’t even room to sit and wait!(I even saw a lady squeezed onto a bench with a child on her lap trying to drink a glass of wine– that did not look enjoyable!!!) We do have a $ 50 gift card for this place so I am excited to try to do another date night here! Super busy must mean they are an excellent restaurant!

So I haven’t been here in a while and the parking lot is always packed. So happy it was raining and it was dead… Lol. I was able to get to the bar without any issues, good wine selection, and the only complaint I have is there are too many good things to choose from on the menu. I opted for French onion soup which was great, and I am extremely picky with my onion soup. It was peppery and loaded with onion, just the right amount of cheese. I had the Cubans Slider’s and fries next which actually filled me up, I wanted to try a few more things but apparently I’ll have to go back to do so. Not that I was checking out the neighbors food but her filet and Mac and cheese looked pretty damn tasty lol. She even caught me looking and said yes it’s the best thing on the menu hahaha. Service was awesome and the bar staff was super friendly and attentive.

Marisa was our server and she was fantastic. Made a reservation on Open Table for 5 people at 7:15 to celebrate my daughter’s 21st birthday. Requested a table on the patio, but they let me know that Wednesday was half price wine night and they have live music on the patio that starts at 7, so they can’t reserve a patio table, but if one was available, we could have it. When we got there we opted to be seated inside of waiting on an outside table. They did come to the table about 5 minutes and let us know there was a table available on the patio if we wanted it(very nice — they didn’t have to do that). It was right beside the band and rain seemed imminent, so we opted to stay inside. The place was packed! ALL their wine is half price. By the glass, by the bottle, there’s no special list. That’s refreshing. Got two appetizers(calamari and bacon wrapped scallops). Calamari was ok — nothing great, but fine. Three very, very large scallops wrapped in bacon that were really good. Had to cut it into halves to eat and could have cut it into fourths. I ordered my old standby, Bayou Shrimp. So good. Spicy cream sauce, plump perfectly cooked shrimp over rice. Comes with a boat load of green beans perfectly crisp tender. Two people at our table got the Cajun Seafood Pasta — shrimp, scallops — really good. Full of seafood, topped with chopped fresh tomatoes and green onions. Daughter got the Chicken Marsala with mashed potatoes which was(in my opinion) a little on the small side — two chicken cutlets, little pile of mashed potatoes, but to be fair, it was perfect for her. And the chicken was so tender she could cut it with a fork. They brought her a free ice cream sundae with a candle — no singing which was actually nice. Just a thoughtful little something special to denote a celebration. This place is great. Staff is wonderful, well trained. Food is consistently good. Can’t go wrong here as far as I’m concerned.

Although I love, love, love the Village Tavern, I was not impressed with my visit to this location on this particular day. My sister and I decided to dine here for lunch yesterday. The restaurant was full of people, which is always promising. The hostess was not very welcoming. To me, the job of a hostess is to make the first impression. Thus far, not a good start. After we were seated at a table in the middle of the restaurant, we were not approached by any wait staff for about 7 – 8 minutes. That is truly unacceptable. When our waiter finally did appear, apologies were offered, and the food came out rather quickly. He left us the bill with the food delivery so that we could go ahead and settle up. I appreciated that gesture. The food was quite delicious. I go to the Village Tavern just for their Spaghetti Squash and Zucchini. It’s light and perfect for lunch. Absolutely no complaints there! If I could make a suggestion for this location, remember that a customers experience is not just affected by the food. You are responsible for how you treat your customers, from beginning to end. That being said, I will return. I can’t say no to the Spaghetti Squash and Zucchini!
