Food’s fantastic! But when I stood in front of 5 employees trying to make eye contact to ask a question, all of them avoided eye contact and ignored me.

Mellow has awesome pizza and the service is awesome! The servers are always very happy and friendly and accommodating. The Buffalo chicken pizza is so good. Noms. My friends and I are planning on returning for lunch later this week. I wish they would swirl the ranch on my pizza like the Charlottesville location!

Mellow Mushroom was«okay» for a work lunch. During the day it’s counter service only — you place and order and they give you a number. I do like a that you can build your pizza, salad or calzone however you like and that there are plenty of options. I picked a pesto base(love the pesto option!) with chicken as my protein — it was fine. Nothing special really — it was a tad oily(probably because of the pesto) and my crust was a little burnt. They weren’t super busy when we stopped so food came out quickly which was appreciated. The soda are was pretty gross though — a good scrubbing is needed there. Overall — just fine for«fancy» pizza in a fun area of downtown.

Waited on my order as I was told it wasn’t ready yet, twenty minutes later someone else asks me what order I’m waiting on and then someone checks the top of the oven where my pizza had been sitting getting cold for 20 minutes. Free business advice: Don’t hire ditzy, self-absorbed brain dead children to run your establishment.

Well. I went back. But for lunch and it was a lot better. No bad service, because we got our own stuff. I do like the pizza’s here. Oh and my stomach cooperated much nicer this time!

Love the pizza here. Personally I am a fan of the meat lovers pizza. However they have a large variety and you can just about whatever you want. Pretty quick and good service. If you come to Winston you got to stop by mellow mushroom

Food is 5 stars!!! Service? None. Walkin: the wait is an hour. Look around lots of tables that are open. Ok so we go to the bar. Bartender sees us but doesn’t come over for a good 10 minutes. We order and the food took over 45 minutes to come out. Bartender goes«oh yeah it’s been like this all night. The kitchen is backed up.» Food comes out but missing a salad. No apologies. No compensation. No nothing. Sadly I would go back for the food but the service is terrible.

As with most Mellow Mushrooms I have been in you find consistent good quality and large crowds on weekends. A very busy pizza place so if you want a little quiet it certainly isn’t the spot. But if you want some good pizza and maybe a few beers then your not going to go wrong.

Normally I would never eat pizza before a photoshoot but after reading about their gluten free options on foursquare, I had to check this place out. Very posh environment and outdoor patio dining area. A little on the pricier side but the pizza is delish. I had a classic white pie with sliced onions, riccota and feta cheese with sun dried tomatos and light olive oil. The only downside is that the crust was a little too crunchy for my liking… almost burnt actually. Will definitely be back to try their kick ass appetizer selection… seat yourself and enjoy!

I’m a big fan of pizzas with amazing crust, and this place does amazing job with that. I didn’t know that mellow mushroom also serves single slices which is great during lunch time. If you like New York style pizza with amazing crust this is the place to go.

Every Mellow Mushroom is a surprising disappointment to me. It feels like it should be great, and it definitely does some things great, but it also is not great in some ways that it feels like it should be better. For example, if you’re a pizza restaurant, I really don’t understand why your pizza and calzones aren’t better. I think it’s the crust that bothers me or something, but their pizza is just not much to write home about. For the price and the reputation, you’d think you’d get better pizza. I can’t say that my experience at this one in Winston-Salem was any different. However, Mellow is one of the better beer places in any place it’s in, which might surprise some people. They always have exceptional local and regional taps that are priced about where you’d expect. I often would rather come to Mellow to drink and go somewhere else to eat, which is another odd Mellow contradiction. This location is pretty sweet though. Winston doesn’t have the biggest downtown but there’s always something interesting happening on this corner.

Great sandwich and side salad. Prompt and attentive service. They’ve changed the dishes the salads come in-which is a cute touch! Consistently good bread!

Popped in for lunch on Saturday after hearing many good things about Mellow Mushroom from friends. We took a seat at the bar so we could watch TV and ordered a beer from our bartender. He laughed at me when I said I drank Bud Light but gave me a couple of suggestions when I said I would be open to a cider beer. I can’t remember what drink I ended up with but kudos on the suggestion. I was sort of set on getting a pizza but quickly decided on their steak sandwich but quickly found that they didn’t serve fries! The helpful bartender showed me an alternative potatoes side dish served with their burger so I ended up going for a burger. It was simple. Nothing so delicious but definitely not bad at at all. The potatoes turned out to be a good choice after all. Mellow Mushroom was just a quick fix and we were in and out in no time. Lunch and a beer for $ 20. Not too shabby.

Wasn’t too crazy about this place. The place looked cool and had a great vibe. Service was ok but not very personable. I had the meaty pizza that was overloaded with meat. Very heavy afterwards. I will give it another shot but my first impression was just… Eh.

I think Mellow Mushroom is a good pizza place if you are looking to head downtown for pizza and you want a bit more of an ambiance. I personally prefer some other local spots for pizza. Mellow always tends be running on a wait, it is a popular spot! I will say the parmesan pretzels here are on point. And you might as well add the beer cheese for $ 2 since it is ridiculously tasty. Like I would go for just pretzels and cheese dip no questions asked. The wings are also pretty good. On our most recent visit we ordered white pizza and it was a huge disappointment. To their credit we should have read the description but we just thought white pizza is white pizza. However their white pizza has sun dried tomatoes, tomatoes, onions, and feta cheese on it. Not what we were expecting! We were thinking more like creamy ricotta and super garlicky. Lesson learned read the description thoroughly. I have also been when they have had a sour beer tap takeover which was neat. Of course the bar was jam packed for that as well!

Not enough good to be said about Mellow Mushroom ! I first went to one in Jax Beach, FL& when I found out there was one in NC, I had to go ! We went there on a Friday night & it was packed, but the wait wasn’t outrageous & the food was PHENOMENAL! We had the house special pizza, spinach & artichoke dip, & a couple salads. We loved it all ! The atmosphere is as I had remembered of a Mellow Mushroom & part of why you go there. We’ll be back !!

Visited Mellow Mushroom for the first time today. I LOVEDIT!!! I admit, I previously judged a book by its cover and since I am not a huge mushroom fan, I kind of made no attempt to come here. My friend suggested it and we came here for lunch. I love the downtown location. It would be fun to be able to walk around before or after eating but unfortunately today was rainy. The vibe is definitely hipster. Funky wall art and cool lighting creates a fun and trendy atmosphere. There seemed to be plenty of seating. We came on a Friday around 12:00 — 12:30 and it seemed to fill up after we got there. I can see how another Unilocaler said it gets crazy busy at certain times. For lunch, the service is a bit different. You place your order at the counter and they bring your food out to you. My friend said that the other times she has been there, they had a server. The staff that I did come into contact with were great! Very friendly. The food was awesome! We split a medium Kosmic Karma pizza which had red sauce, feta & mozz cheeses, sun dried tomatoes, spinach, Roma tomatoes and a swirl of pesto. It was amazing! I love their crust! Price seemed a little high(resulting in a minus one star). Medium pizza(6 slices) was $ 19.00. But I would say the quality was higher than other pizzas I have had so to pay a bit more for better ingredients is the trade off. All in all, I am definitely looking forward to coming back and trying another one of their pizzas!!!

Great location and an excellent selection of beers. Unfortunately, it appears extremely corporate at this point and very sterile in terms of ambience. Toppings are extremely sparse on the pizza we ordered which was a version of meat lovers basically. Menu is becoming stale and lackluster. I wish they would sell this location to a business person that cared about a better quality experience. Despite the fact that we ate only half the pizza and commented about the lack of toppings, no manager ever approached us and we would have been better off ordering plain cheese. Either a training issue or apathy. I am not sure they will survive at this pace despite their former success. Hungry competitors are nipping at their heels. Margaret was the GM this evening.

Overview: Mellow Mushroom is a sit-down pizza parlor located on 4th Street that serves both traditional and upscale and pizza variants, calzones, hoagies, and salads. The Food: Pretty delicious, but in my opinion, it’s pretty easy to make delicious pizza. We ordered the House Special(basically Supreme or «The Works») as well as the Blue Bayou(Sausage and Shrimp) and found them to be yummy but nothing extraordinary. Burned crust at one edge, typical oily consistency, soft crust. In addition, this place is pretty expensive — about as expensive as the pizza I used to get at California Pizza Kitchen. I ended up paying about $ 32 for a large pizza for two, an iced tea, and tip(April 2015). The Establishment: Loud hip music playing both indoors and outdoors, small metal tables. Kinda hard to find parking because it’s downtown, but overall in a nice place. The Service: Very attentive young people. No complaints. Conclusion: Mellow Mushroom is a nice sit-down, hip pizza parlor in downtown Winston Salem that serves a good variety of pizzas, but isn’t the best value. It’s a great place to hang out with a group of friends downtown but if you don’t care about sitting around downtown, I’d rather buy 2 – 3 large Papa John’s pizzas for the same price and eat it in the park.

Mellow Mushroom has very good food and a great beer selection. I normally don’t write reviews of chains, but I recently branched out from the pizza at Mellow Mushroom and tried some other menu items. I felt the need to share. Mellow Mushroom is in the heart of downtown Winston on Fourth Street and it gets slam packed on weekends. There is almost always a wait so I would recommend not coming during peak times on weekends. The good news is, if there is a wait, you can kill some time in the bar area with their awesome beer selection. I honestly think that Mellow might have one of the best selections of beers on tap in Winston and for some reason I don’t think to go there often enough. They sometimes carry things on tap that no other bars in the area do(for example Stone Enjoy By’s and Lukcy Basartd). The vibe here, as with other Mellow Mushrooms, is very hipster and counter culture. The staff is friendly for the most part, but the service is hit and miss. One thing that really bothers me about Mellow is that many times they will have beer specials that suggest that all the beers from a certain brewery are on special. They will list 4 – 6 on the menu, but then when you actually ask only one of them is on tap. That’s deceiving in my opinion. They have a good amount of seating and they can accommodate large groups, but again this may be a problem on the weekends. They also offer seating outside in front of the restaurant on Fourth Street, which is sometimes a nice option. Their food is actually pretty consistently good. This is not a cheap place by any means, but it is nice every once in a while. The Specialty Pizzas are obviously delicious. My favorites are the«Maui Wowie,» «Mighty Meaty,» and«Red Skin Potato Pie.» I’ve actually never had a pizza here that I haven’t been satisfied with. I recently branched out and tried some non-pizza items. I got a half portion of a «Jerk Chicken Hoagie.» I was pleasantly surprised. Very tender, well-marinated chicken on a crisp hoagie. Also, a half portion was plenty! I also got a side salad which was well put together. For an appetizer I would definitely recommend the pretzels. Mellow Mushroom has one of the best beer selections in Winston along with some very creative pizza and good hoagies. There is a nice atmosphere to get a drink with friends or hang out at the tables outside on Fourth. It is a little pricey and the wait on weekends is excessive. I would definitely recommend though.
