We ate at this Sonic on University on a weeknight after their so-called dinner rush was over. They took a few minutes to answer the red call button. I had to repeat the order two different times. The food was made differently than I ordered but we just ate what we had and left the parking lot. We will not be back here in the foreseeable future.

We went to get some drinks for happy hour. Let me start by saying that I love sonic. I really do enjoy their food. When we went they were not busy at all. Maybe 2 – 3 cars. I hit the red button and waited for maybe a minute. I told the person on the other side of the speaker my order. Then silence for a while. Then she came back and asked me to repeat my order. Silence again. Then she repeated the first half of the order and asked again what I wanted. Keep in mind I ordered 2 drinks and a mini tater tot, nothing complicated. 7 min later the order came out. The card«swiper» didn’t work, why would it work? I’m just disappointed, sonic used to be better than this. Oh and the good thing about waiting is that it gives you time to look around and see the random bag of trash laying next to the trash can and the random pair of chuck Taylor’s sitting on the table outside. There’s no pride in this sonic. Sadly, with service and cleanliness like this it’ll only be a matter of time before sonic is no more. I really do enjoy sonic too. Oh and one more thing. It’s Americas drive in, not Americas drive thru! Well I went back for more. They were doing .50 cent corn dogs. I love corn dogs! Ordered some drinks. Everything came out great. Oh wait! I tell the server. Can I have some straws? She replies, «oh we’re out of straws». Seriously. How can you be out of straws! It’s 6pm. Damn!

Got my sandwich wrong, ordered the ultimate chicken sandwich in classic style with the brioche bun and they gave me a grilled chicken with ciabatta bread. i think the drive through speaker wasn’t working because they couldn’t hear us.

«What else?» can I say about this Sonic? My family of four ordered 2 Coney Dogs, and the guy responded with, «chili cheese Coney, what else?» I stated that we wanted two. He responded with, I got that, what else. 1 corn dog. What else? A six piece Island Fire Wings. What else? A 6 piece cheese sticks. What else? A New York dog. What else? 3 waters. What else? That’s all. The service is absolutely atrocious. This was a rapid fire conversation that lasted about 15 seconds from start to finish and this kid still made me feel like I was completely wasting his time. There are way too many food options on this street to ever choose to eat here again. Update: after 20 minutes of waiting, I finally went inside to inquire about the long wait. I was told«Well, you ordered a lot of food.» I told the young man how his service skills were rude, hurried and quite unpleasant. I cancelled my order and we left. What else Sonic!!!

Sonic epitomizes American fast food. Imagine the burgers of Hardee’s, the hot dogs of Weinerschnitzel, the chicken tenders of Bojangles, and the shakes of Cook Out, combine them all into one big menu, then turn it into a drive-in. Sounds like a wonderful idea, right?! Ehhh. Without focus, and with the same or higher prices, I just don’t see much of an advantage coming here. I came with my buddy and wife after a big hike and we got milkshakes, hot dogs, and some deluxe burger thing. I don’t remember the names of anything but it doesn’t matter because they’re all fairly generic. Although I toss around the word«generic» a lot, in my opinion, a Big Mac or an Arby’s Roast Beef has a unique taste, texture, and style that other burgers don’t have. I would say the same thing about a California Pizza Kitchen pizza. Sonic’s food does not have a unique taste. This is forgettable, generic fast food without any unique style that keeps you coming back. I’m not saying it doesn’t taste good. You take a fatty beef patty + cheap American cheese, put it between two white-bread buns, and add a little bit of tomato and lettuce, and it’s going to taste good no matter what. This is not Umami Burger. I’m sad that Sonic uses the huge profit margin it makes on not having to maintain an actually indoor eating area, and spends it all on advertising on Hulu to attract people like me rather than lowering the prices on its food. Just go to Wendy’s or McDonalds and get the same quality of food for a better price(and a nice place to sit down.)
