Love this place! The salads are so fresh and delicious and we really like the whole hummus and grape leaves there too.

Absolutely the best Syrian food around and that’s a bold statement with all of the ethnic food you can find in south Paterson(which is near by). Over the last 6 months it seems as though the flavors have intensified and some of the items have been changed. When I inquired about i was told that the women cooking started to implement some family recipes into their food. All of the kabobs are juicy and flavorful. The kibah in a tray is to die for and the stuffed squash is always a must for me. I am also an avid tea drinker and the pot of tea that they brew is extremely delicious!

Great place for Mediterranean food. Loved their Shawarma and pickles. Falafel was good too but we have had better. Would definitely go again.

Beyond expectations. The waitress is funny and so helpful since I have horrid food allergies. The kufta kabobs were out of this world. Everything from the stuffed grape leaves to spinach pie was devoured. My hubby had the meat pies and he had 5 since they reminded him of his grandmothers cooking. The food prices were fair and portions generous. The pickles that came with the meat pies are addictive. Highly recommend and will be back

Great place, delicious, food is inexpensive and authentic. Get a pot of Turkish coffee, order a bunch of sides and salad and dips. Foul is delicious, so is the hummus/babaganoush. Bring your own wine or beer. Don’t forget to tip more than 20% because the food is inexpensive and the service is great.

In the neighborhood shopping, I opened Unilocal to find this charming spot. The girl taking orders was super friendly and her mom is the chef. The menu all sounds delicious and is reasonably priced. I knew I wanted falafel even before I walked in, and 5 pieces for $ 3.99 is a steal. I ate one the minute I got to the car lol. It was perfectly crispy outside and soft inside, with garlicky goodness. I prefer my falafel a little more herbaceous but this was good too. I tried a piece of Kibbeh for $ 2. Which was very flavorful and perfectly seasoned. My favorite was the Kufta Kabob Sandwich. Every bite tasted great and melted in my mouth And for $ 4.49 was a perfect lunch.

Tried their chicken shawarma, kufta kebab shawarma, and spinach pie during separate visits. Their shawarmas are pretty flavorful although the kufta kebab was a little on the dry side. However, the other fillings that are in the shawarma definitely added a good flavor to the whole thing. The spinach pie was decent but nothing noteworthy. The prices are affordable for the food that you get. I would come back here if I had a craving for shawarmas while at my workplace nearby, but I probably wouldn’t make a designated trip here as I have had better shawarmas elsewhere. Overall, a place to check out though I you are hungry and in the area!

Super delicious, fresh, authentic Syrian food! I have been eating here for years and have never been disappointed. Some favorites include baba ghannouj, grape leaves, kefta kabob, king salad, and everything else on the menu! Casual, unassuming atmosphere and quick take out.

Hands down, the best and most authentic Syrian style middle-eastern food you’ll find. That’s coming from someone with Syrian roots who grew up eating home made Syrian dishes. It’s the only place where I can find the food exactly like my grandfather made it.

I’m sitting in this place right now and there are 3 middle eastern woman literally fighting and screaming at the top of their lungs in the kitchen. I can’t hear myself think! Unbelievably rude and no respect for their customers. Ridiculous!!! I will never go back

I just recently delved into the world of Middle Eastern cuisine. Just a few weeks ago, I was helping a friend shoot a short film in Hoboken. As compensation, he treated me(and introduced me) to some Middle Eastern food at a spot called Mamoun’s. Now totally in love with it, I immediately started wondering where they might be some closer spots to partake in such great grub. Then, a light-bub popped up in my head, and I realized: «Hey, ding-dong… There’s a spot literally right up the street from your house that you pass all the dang time. Check it out!» That is precisely what I did. I went over to King of Shish Kebab during lunch hours, and was greeted by a wonderfully pleasant gal who doubled as a server and order-taker. I decided to go with the shawarma(beef) sandwich, the falafel sandwich, and a piece of spinach pie. Dude… What amazing sammiches. Yes, SAMMICHES. Quite the contrast from my first experience at Mamoun’s. As opposed to being adorned in a creamy sauce in the style of the aforementioned, their sandwich contained deliciously tender beef that was very well-marinated, and very moist without being doused in liquid. I was impressed at that alone. Then. I dove into my falafel sandwich, and was even more amazed. An amazingly seasoned, moist, decadent falafel flavor coupled with fresh veggies. Both sandwiches were wrapped in pitas that were softer than a drunk text from Drake. The spinach pie? No «wow» factor for me, but it wasn’t BAD. It was still palatable. I didn’t have time to sit and dine, but I was impressed that this amazingly quaint spot was able to accommodate quite a bit of diners. Overall, they just gained a new fan. I love the service and product. Winning formula. Gotta love the great feel of a small mom-and-pop business that truly values the people that walk through their doors. I’ll be a regular now.

3.5 stars for this place. For takeout I had the chicken kebab sandwich($ 5) was good, not bad, but did not wow me. The baba ganoush was pretty tasty though, and they give you a nice big portion of it with a bag of like 10 pieces of pita bread that i couldn’t finish.

This is a very quaint small restaurant and is very good. The shish kabob is marinated very well and is flavorful. You can see the cubes marinating in the case when you enter. The restaurant is always busy so the food is always fresh. The grapes leaves were very good. The borek was ok. It was a new addition to the menu. I don’t think the cheese they use is the right one. I would pass on them next time. The reason for the 2 star rating is because of what happened with the rice. The shish kabob comes with on top of rice pilaf. The shish kabob was freshly made and very hot. The rice pilaf was ice cold. We told the waitress. We kept the shish kabobs and she took back the pilaf. She said she was surprised as it was only made an hour ago. What surprised me was when she returned with the pilaf about 5 minutes later she gave us back our same plates with the same rice that had been reheated. Honestly, that just turned me off! I

Let me say I’m furious I didn’t find this place sooner! The freshest most delicious middle eastern food you could want. The space is small and informal and a BYOB. Service friendly. Ive been twice. We start with lots of apps. The babaganoush is smokey and addictive. The white bean salad with parsley, olive oil and tomatoes delicious. As are the grape leaves and the spinach pie. The lentil and crispy onion dish is ethereal. We had the cheese and cucumber plate. A mild white cheese served with sliced fresh cucumber. Tasty but a little bland, but when drizzled with the dressing from the white beans oh yum! All served with baskets of pita. Now if you can get past all that fresh tastiness without filling up the kabobs are killer. We get the king kabob platter. The most expensive thing on the menu that feeds two. It comes with a buttery tender marinated chicken kabob, a marinated beef kabob and a chopped meat kabob that is spiced with parsley and something like clove. Supremely delicious and simply grilled. To this you can add anothe kabob like lamb ffor a few bucks. I don’t eat lamb but my friends rave over it. It’s served over a flavorful rice pilaf that is tossed with grilled onions, a generous portion of hummus and tahini, and a huge fresh chopped salad. More than enuf for two. When you walk in you can see all the proteins marinating in a refrigerated case. All is so fresh and simply cooked. I can’t wait to eat my way thru the rest of the menu. Last night four of us gorged with leftovers to take home for $ 18 each including tip. You can’t beat that with a stick. For desert they had tasty baklava my first time there but who can fit dessert? Just writing this is making me ravenous. I will soooo be back! It’s a small place gets crowded and only one waitress but she’s efficient and friendly and will gladly bring more pita, glasses ice and take out containers. **A note to the owner** the bathroom is awful!!! Please have it cleaned daily. With bleach. A filthy bathroom that services men and women will surely drive business away. It’s a simple request to keep our business. i removed 2 stars due the bathrooms, please take care of this so I can restore them!

I picked up a shawarma sandwich to go which in the past I would be very pleased but this time the pita seemed soggy with not enough sesame sauce and not as tasty. The beef was a little chewy. I guess they were having an off night. I will not count them out. I will go back.

I wish I could give this place a better rating, but unfortunately I can’t. Wanted to get a quick bite to eat and try somewhere new and was pretty excited because of the reviews, but I was pretty disappointed. Tried the kibbeh as a side to my shawarma sandwich, and the middle of it was ice cold. The warm parts were okay, but that first bite of ice really turned me off. As for the shawarma, there wasn’t too much flavor, but it wasn’t the worst. Hopefully I just caught them on an off night because they seem to have a lot of potential.

Just want to begin by stating that I am a regular here… Been coming for years and it has remained consistent. Being that it’s family owned, the food tastes genuine. When I was just a little girl, I would spend afternoons at my neighbor’s house where I was introduced to an array of Syrian food.(the hallivah mmmm)(sp?) The smell in the kitchen made my mouth water while I played dress up. And now reflecting on my experience growing up with the pleasure to indulge in a cultural setting, KOS has given me nostalgia. It’s a small place, but always decorated throughout the seasons. There is always one server there. Her name is Rania and she is freakin awesome, I love her! She always makes me feel at home and provides me with impeccable service. With that said, on a busy night, be patient, she works very hard. On to the food ! The arabic tea is delightfully minty which pairs well with almost all the food. There’s always complimentary olives pickled beets and pita. Usually always get the hummus. It’s creamy and topped with paprika and EVOO. Yummyyy!!! Lately I’ve been getting into the Muhamara which is a red pepper and crushed walnut dip. It is sooooo goooood, omg. I sometimes put it on the vegetarian grape leaves. Recently they started serving cheese borek which is absolutely amazing, theyre like the Syrian version of mozz stix but better I think. Syrian cheese or mozz? and feta with parsley stuffed into a cigar shaped flaky phylo dough pastry. I am addicted… The shwarma is excellent. Heavily marianted and slow cooked, both beef and chicken are just bursting with flavor… I love the spices and seasonings. Just thinking about it is making me want to go back… I highly recommend KOS. I’ve never been let down.

2.5 stars. Sorry to say the King of Shish Kabab is not the king of falafel or beef shawarma. I ordered the falafel sandwich and husband ordered the beef shawarma sandwich. The bread was thin but it was slightly tough and served cold. The falafel itself was dry and a bit grainy for my taste. My husband thought the beef was pungent and did not particularly like the flavor. Also expected the beef to be thin slices but instead were strips. Perhaps we should have ordered the Shish Kebab? We had recently ordered the same type of sandwiches at Uncle Moustache and the sandwiches there were delicious. The service here however was friendly and the dining area was clean. Perhaps it is a matter of taste/preference but we were not crazy about the food we ordered.
