My partner and I came for breakfast. Service was fast and efficient if not abrupt and impersonal. And everything came out on separate dishes not together. But was filling. We came for food and that’s what we got. :)

Visited this restaurant tonight with the family and we must say we like this spot. It is a nice retro spot, the atmosphere is good too. The customer service was good and very attentive, but then again it was not busy. The food came out hot and with good flavour and juice, my kids picked the steak tips and I ate the pork chops. Met the owner too, very nice guy and another good part they do MILITARYDISCOUNT. That’s always a plus for us, we have six mouths to feed.lol. We will definitely come back again.

A favorite of mine for some time. I love the attentive service and the food is exactly what one would expect from a diner. I would recommend this place based on the service and speed with which everything is attended. The place is well kept

It’s a diner, with all the basic requirements covered: Burgers, breakfast served all day, and a 1950’s theme. They have it all down. Mel’s is a little beaten up around the edges, which is fine for the type of place it is, and not so much so that it feels worn out — more like well loved. There are big comfy booths surrounded by lots of chrome and neon. The waitress attended to us quickly, and was very friendly. I had a french dip that was okay, with a side of onion rings that were all kinds of awesome — battered and deep fried to a perfect crisp, very fresh. I’d come back just for the onion rings. Others at the table opted for the breakfast for dinner choices; my daughter’s order was so big she had to take some of it back to the hotel to finish later(bacon is a great midnight snack, so no complaints). Everyone liked their meals and the price was about right for what we got.

Sat at the bar, the staff was very friendly and quick. I had corned beef and eggs, everything was cooked well and tasted great, exactly what I was looking for.

Incredibly long wait for a dry waffle with canned peaches and spray can whipped cream. Waffles café is much better.

This is my favorite breakfast restaurant in Yakima, and I come here often. Their country gravy is homemade and delicious, as are their hashbrowns. Definitely not the pre-packaged garbage that you get at denny’s. It can be on the pricier side for breakfast, but well worth it in my opinion. Give it a try for breakfast, you won’t be disappointed!

Mel’s is a repeat stop for our Seattle based motorcycle club. We find ourselves either making Mel’s a day-ride-from-Seattle destination or a stopover for a good meal on our multiday rides. Mel’s is really convenient to get to, as well as getting in and out of. We normally arrive with anywhere between 10 – 15 bikes/riders and normally find a minimal wait if any. They’re great at getting the food out all together(and fresh) and they keep the hot coffee coming! Solid diner food is what you’ll find here with big portions. The servers are very business like in their approach, some may find them«rude» but I kind of enjoy the experience of not having a phony server ask me how my day is going, etc. Just take my order, serve it correctly, keep the coffee coming, and be efficient. Mel’s is all of that!

The waitress we had(Gloria) was nothing but rude. I ordered a chicken sandwich, specifically asked for no mayo, and she looked at me like I had three heads, and asked, «no mayo, really?» I responded, «Yes…no mayo, no sauce at all.» She responded, «ok, no mayo, no sauce.» I also requested a soda for one of the kids in our party with lots of ice, and she goes«well, refills are free,» as though the reason I’d asked for lots of ice was that I expected it to be cheaper, and not simply that I wanted to let my son have a «grown up soda» without actually getting the same amount of soda. When our food came, my sandwich came out 5 minutes after everyone else’s food, and it had thousand island dressing on it. When I pointed it out, she rolled her eyes in front of me and claimed I only said no mayo… you repeated it back to me, I said no mayo, no sauce at all, and even if I hadn’t(though I DID), if I didn’t want mayo, what makes you think I’d want a mayo-based sauce? The sandwich was served open, and the onion rings were piled into the sauce. You’d think when she took it back and changed the bun out, that she would have simply tossed the one that was touching the dressing, but nope! There was a chunk missing from that onion ring instead. Everyone at my table said it looked like she’d taken a bite out of it(though I honestly doubt she did). On top of this, while she was gone with my plate, we could audibly hear her complaining to the kitchen staff about me sending it back. «She wanted no sauce — Ohhhhh my GAWWWWWDDDDD.» I was going to complain about her to the manager when I paid the bill at the counter, but I believe it was the owner who rang me up and he seemed less than willing to listen. He was very short with me, and insisted to know whether I was tipping on my card(apparently their credit card machine doesn’t work like every other restaurant on the face of the planet and print a tip line, so they have to enter the tip when they run the card… shady). Quite frankly, after talking to him for the minute it took to pay for our meal, I can completely understand why he lets snotty people stay employed in his establishment. Never, ever, ever again will I so much as pull into their parking lot to turn around.

My family and I are from the other side of the state(seattle area). We stopped off at this restaurant even after looking at the reviews… thought we’d give it a try… this is my 1st review because I haven’t had a great experience like this YET. Food was amazing. I ordered the country fried steak. perfect… I have ordered this at almost every restaurant for the past year, and have not found one better than this. we did come on a Tuesday at 2pm. don’t know if that had anything to do with it… but very pleased to say the least… Kids loved the 50s style… my kids are 15 and 10 to give a good reference too… will be stopping here every time we pass thru… thanks for the fast service prompt food and pleasant experience…

Went here late on a Sunday morning, it wasn’t nearly as crowded as I would have expected. The food was decent but our server left an impression on me that the establishment can never mitigate. So admittedly my bf and I may be slightly nerdy and took a board game to play while passing the time. Regardless the waitress was mean, never smiled and made it clear she was displeased(probably with life in general). She was so intimidating the people seated next to us a few minutes later waited to see who their waitress was before opening their menu and we all joked about how lucky they were when they got someone else. I had ordered hash browns with my meal and she brought the ketchup and Tabasco but never the hash browns, she was so intimidating I was scared to ask for them!!! We ended up speaking to the manger, something I have never done in a negative way… So the food is good and all the other servers seemed really nice so don’t write the place off… just hope you don’t get the old battle axe

Back on October 5th, my wife and I went to meals for diner. We went because it was my birthday, and meals advertises free steak for your birthday. That is why we went there. I have ate the before and food and service was good. But on this day it was very disappointing. We arrived and was seated right away, got water and menus. But after that we totally ignored we waited for over 20 mins and not help. I justered to two waitresses but still ignored. So we got up and left. What seen when I was being ignored, all waitresses standing a round and talking to people at counter. All tables had there food. There was five tables with customers and three people at counter. Two of them were leaving and the other was only having coffee. It was 4:00 in afternoon not that busy. Very disappointed in service. Had to somewhere else for dinner.

Amazing 50’s style, super clean and good food. I ordered strawberry French toast and it was good although I felt it was swimming in strawberry juice too much. But very tasty topped with cream. I brought my service dog me and everybody was pleasant and accommodating. The prices were what they should be. Sadly the area it is in does not reflect the charm and style of Mel’s but worth it to go. The staff alone makes this diner great experience. I would definitely recommend stopping anytime day or night because they are open 24 hours which is fantastic news if you’re craving something at 2 o’clock in the morning!

The was a typical diner. I didn’t find it special in anyway. The food wasn’t bad, but it didn’t stand out either. I had Eggs Benedict. The sauce was decent but the ham was so salty I only ate about half if it. It was deli sliced ham verses a slice/slab I guess for $ 9 I expect different. Servers are older and don’t seem particularly interested in being particularly friendly. But maybe my server was just off her game today. If you just want a quick breakfast then this fits the bill.
