Steak ‘n Shake

The service is terrible here. We gone two times and each time it takes the server forever to come to the table. Once they receive or order just for a shake it takes FOREVER to get to the table. Last time we came it took an hour to get out the restaurant just getting a shake. This time the servers were not present in the restaurant. This is terrible.

Mmmmm love the burgers here and the fries too. Awesome shakes and everyone here has always been friendly and provided fast service as well.

I love their shakes and the food is good, but the two times that I’ve ordered food through the drive through, I got cold fries. Other than that, I’ve never had an issue. The drive through employees greet me and seem happy whenever I come here to eat. I didn’t have to wait too long for our food either.

This place brings me back to my grad school days decades ago when there was a Steak ‘n Shake around the corner! Good times!
While I love the specialty burgers, I really enjoy the Turkey club, 3-​way chili Mac, and ice tea.
Join the many cheapskates who come in hordes for half-​price shakes and drinks from 2 – 5 on weekdays! Bargain!
The seating here is plentiful and comfortable. The windows are large and the dining room is well-​lit so you can see what you are are ramming into your pie hole!
This place has a large parking lot, unlike the trendy, hipster douchebag eateries downtown. Pay up, you maggots!
The pace is pretty laid-​back. The servers will not hurry you out if you eat slow or are just enjoying your meal.

Love me a milkshake from Steak ‘N Shake. It’s right down the street from where I live so it’s convenient to get to when I start wanting a chocolate shake. But it takes forever. I always go through the drive thru, and if there’s anyone else in line before you, you will wait at the speaker before they acknowledge you’re there waiting to take your order. Today’s visit was at least 5 minutes. Then you order and they say «one moment for your total» and you’ll wait again. And wait and wait and wait. I don’t know why it takes them so long to bring up the total but it’s frustrating. I understand their food is made to order so sure you might wait longer than your average drive thru for a meal, but a shake shouldn’t take that kind of time. I know the price of shakes by now so at this visit they started to say «one moment for your total» and I interrupted and said «IT’S $ 3.17» and pulled up. Just so I could be out of the drive thru line in less than 10 minutes. You got good shakes Steak ‘N Shake, but your service is terrible.

Went here last night with a friend from work after close it was around 10pm. Overall it was pretty good service and I would definitely recommend doing what the steak and shake staff calls the «Jersey dip» where you take your fries and dip them in the pool of butter that has dripped off of your burger! This is the perfect place you’re hungry for a good greasy steak burger definitely would recommend! They earned every bit of that one dollar tip with the excellent service I received!

My relatives were in town to visit. My sister-​in-​law decided that she wanted to stop by to grab some seasoned fries. We were quickly seated and started checking out the menu. She decided to get a Half strawberry and half banana shake. She was not happy because when they brought it out it was a mixed shake. The person that delivered the shake was almost stating that she (Sis-​In-​Law) placed the order wrong. The waitress corrected this and got the proper shake. I ordered a root beer float and 2 mini burgers. One garlic, one cajun and an order of seasoned fries. I will admit that the burger order did take some time. My order seemed correct but my Sister-​in-​law was having a bad night. She had recommended my seasoned fries but the problem was that she did not have enough seasoning. My brother and nieces seemed to be ok. The waitress did not seem too happy. However, the bill did not include the shakes that were ordered which was a plus and a surprise as it was not stated that this was going to be the case. However, If I go here again it would probably be take out.

Food is good but service is awful.
We waited 25 mins for our waitress then 30 minutes for drinks and to order, then another 40 minutes for food. The waitress never check on the table to explain any hold up or refill and drinks. Had a preoccupied attitude the whole visit until she brought the bill (25 minutes after eating when my husband got up and requested it since she didn’t come back) then she was extremely nice in which after such crappy service is clearly just to scrape whatever tip we would give. Second visit this happened. Won’t be back to this location.

A friend and I go to the gym religiously at night… so…
We finish working out and head here for a post workout meal… we walk in to no greeting, and it takes us a few minutes to be seated…
Fifteen-​Twenty minutes later… my friend got tired of waiting and went and asked the COOK whom our server was, because we hadn’t seen anyone.
Five minutes goes by, finally get some water and our order taken, cool.
Twenty minutes tick on… my glass of water is empty now… our waitress said our food will be up in a few minutes…
Ten minutes later (glass still empty) another waiter brings my friend his shake, that he ordered to go, for after the meal… At this point I ask him how long the food is going to take. he said just a few minutes… I asked just how many minutes… he replied no more than ten… I tell him to cancel the order, we are done waiting.
We walk up to the counter, and the waiter starts to ring the friend up for the shake (because he is mild mannered, and didn’t want to raise hell about paying for a shake). BUT INSTEAD, the waiter is ringing up our entire bill, as if we had eaten already. At this point, we basically told him to keep the shake too, and we walked out. I have been there twice now, and have had bad service both times, and undercooked food for the time I DID in fact get to eat… It is safe to say, that I will NEVER be back… And if it was possible to rate a restaurant a 0, I would definitely do it.

We haven’t had any major problems with the food, and it’s usually affordable, but they are s-​l-​o-​w, and if you order at the drive-​thru, they will tell you to wait for your total, and then never return… consistently. Why can’t they give a total immediately? If their computers are that slow they should have been replaced long ago. Also, pet people, do not attempt to buy your furry friend a treat here. My husband asked if they would add a plain burger to our order and they charged him the price of an entire meal for it! Not very good customer relations. I like that they offer pasta/​chili and taco salads.

Employees always yelling at eachother, getting orders wrong or mixed up. No lines but super long waits.
Happy hour is a decent deal if you’re passing by. Have witnessed employees get into arguments with eachother, not sure why? Waited in the drive through for 20+ minutes for food for 2 people.
1 star for food. I only come here for the food, but be prepared to wait. Make sure you check if they got everything right before leaving.

This place used to be a guilty pleasure. So much so that I’d overlook some things that really should have made me revise my 2011 review. What can I say, I love Unilocal,but I love milkshakes more.
But after my last visit, I’m breaking up with you, milkshakes. At least, milkshakes from gross, incompetent Ypsi S’n’S. At 11:45 on a Sunday, there are maybe 6 tables. There are at least 8 employees. Yet, no one gets seated quickly, almost none of the tables have their food in the first half hour that we’re there. The floor is so filthy I’m afraid to go in the restroom. When we finally get our meals, I pick up my steakburger and… there is a hair in my fries. Oh, the sadness! I tell the waitress, she says, «Ew, gross, I’ll tell the cook» and disappears. No apology, nothing off our bill. At this point, it’s been nearly an hour, so we pay and leave.
Based on this and the other times that the restaurant has been dirty or screwed things up, I decide that it’s time to go to corporate. I describe the incident to S’n’S customer service and get basically the same response as the teenage waitress. «Oh, thanks for telling us, we’ll talk to management. If you have more issues in the future, tell us.» Call me old-​fashioned, but I like a real apology, and/​or some gesture that says they want to keep my business. And a milkshake. I still kinda want a milkshake. But I guess I’ll have to go to Livonia for that…

Constantly underwhelming. Had a kid (name tag said Tim) stand in front of us at the register pounding buttons for 4 – 5 minutes when we were trying to pay our bill to leave. He never acknowledged us, just kept pounding away at whatever he was doing on the screen, until someone else came to check us out. I don’t think the owners are putting any money back into the restaurant as every booth had deflated seats. Shakes take longer to come out than food (husband was finished with his burger before I got my shake). Food wise it’s on part with other Steak n Shake restaurants.

LOVE!!! Always hot, fresh and made to order. Extensive menu and often just what I want is there! The shakes and fries are the best! Mint chocolate cookie cream-​YUM!!!

I used to love this place because of the food and the hours, but I don’t think I’ll be going back. We went late one night and after being sat for 20 minutes our waiter, the only waiter in the restaurant, came to take our order. He left and never brought our drinks. 30 minutes later he comes to our table and tells us that he is just now putting our order in because there was an error with the computer. He never comes to check up on us, which I would have understood if they were busy but they weren’t and he wasn’t helping the other tables either. We finally got our food and they forgot one of our orders but we didn’t care at that point. We started eating and our friend bites into his burger and claims it taste like cleaner. My boyfriend and I both tried it and it did in fact taste like cleaner. We went to check out and they tried to charge us for the drinks and burger we never received. I know late night service isn’t normally great but this was the worst I’ve ever had.

The food was decent, my wife and I got double steak burgers, I got a vanilla milkshake and she got a strawberry milkshake. I got some chili before our burgers came and it was actually pretty good. Both the kids got grilled cheese sandwiches with milkshakes and fries. They both liked it and they looked good.
The service was really good as soon as we were seated someone was right there to take our drink orders and then our food orders. The milkshakes and food all came out quick.

Sorry to say we had lunch there yesterday
Didn’t seem like there were any managers present, no one knew what they were doing. Got seated and sat and sat until a flustered waitress asked if anyone had come by. Nobody had. She finished delivering to a table took our order. The wait was endless. Finally got our milkshakes which tasted very artifical flavored (chocolate and strawberry). Burgers finally came with so much mustard the burger kept sliding off the bun, no mayo. We never were given napkins or silverware. The meat wasn’t bad, but very thin. Restaurant seemed chaotic in feel, not very busy, but not giving off clean vibes. Will I go again? Heck no yuck. Only put one star because the review makes you

It’s a quick little burger joint with great prices. I was here yesterday and loved their $ 4 menu. I ordered the taco salad and my husband ordered a double cheeseburger. Our order was fast, Alex was wonderful, and I’m back again today after walking a quarter mile in the rain while they get some metal out of my tire at discount tire. (Note, red robin, Mcdonalds, and Applebee’s are right across the street, but I went a little further for good food at a better price than that fast food joint.
Happy hour is weekdays from 2 – 4 (pm and am) for half off of drinks and shakes. With the type of food and service I’ve received the past couple times I’ve been here, I will be back. Thanks Alex and Johan.

I’ve had good service at MANY locations just not this one.
Last visit was infuriating, followed by a call to the number on the receipt that said I’d get a call back in 24 – 48 hours. NOPE. Called the 800 number again — promised a call. NOPE.
There are some good kids working here but I believe they have apathetic management.
It flows down hill and ends here at this Steak N Shake.

Open late. Friends and I ate here before watching the 3am showing of a movie.
For my meal, I had the frisco melt. Was not very impressed with this sandwich. It’s two hamburger patties with some sort of sour sauce in between them, served on sourdough bread.
Had the mint cookies and cream shake. It was pretty tasty, but super filling. Could pretty much have just had this for dinner.
