Food is really good! But the customer service is pretty bad. Really rude employee, can’t remember her name but me and my friend went in for a buffet and she didn’t want to eat much so I just got myself a plate. We sat down and food was nice and freshly made and my friend wanted to try it so I got a plate so I can share some of my food with her. We went to the counter to pay because she didn’t bring us the check and then she said she is going to charge for the plate which was honestly very ridiculous, and when I asked her«You want me to pay extra just for getting a empty plate, and sharing my food off my plate with her?» And she said«Yes, we charge per plate.» Like that’s fine if you have such rules but what really pissed me off was the way she spoke, very rudely, like try to be a little nice to your customers woman. Kinda thought that was very absurd.

The food is not consistent. On several occasions I had to ask for a new glass because there was floating particles in the water. Check your glasses, there maybe residue from a woman’s lip stick on the rim.

This place was ok, but we would not go there again. The floor was dirty and sticky, and the mens bathroom didnt have a properly working soap dispenser… The samosas were really good as well as the chutney. I ordered shrimp vindaloo and said I wanted it spicy, the highest level of spicyness. When I tasted it the shrimp was chewy and my food was hardly spicy at all. Taco bell’s hot sauce would have been spicyer.

The first time I was here everything was delicious and I’ve raved about it with family and friends so the second time I tried it the food was bland and tasteless they definitely have 1 excellent cook and others that take over when the main cook isn’t available that’s the only explanation I can think of because the food was so different tasting both times… I keep wanting to give this place another chance hoping and praying it’ll be just as amazingly delicious the first time I tried it.

Eh, I don’t know about this place. We came here once, shortly after moving to the area. Our party of six stood around awkwardly while waiting to be greeted by the staff. After a minute or two we were greeted and seated and handed menus. I’m not Indian but I’ve long been crazy about Indian food. Hailing from Silicon Valley, I’m used to having countless Indian restaurants to choose from, so I feel like I know what’s good and what’s not. I have three go-to dishes when dining at at Indian restaurant: Aloo Muttar, Chana Masala, or Vegetable Korma. I’m not really into the meat-based dishes, so I can’t say much about those. On this particular visit(my first and probably last), I ordered the Chana Masala. Maybe I made a mistake by asking for mild, but when it came I was overwhelmed by the sweetness and overall lack of… something. A certain Indian restaurant owner in Roseville told me it’s common for many to cook the food differently for non-Indian folks. Maybe they profiled me and figured I couldn’t handle the authentic stuff. Maybe they substitute extra sugar for spice when you order a mild dish. I’m not even sure why I asked for mild that day, I was probably thinking I could offer some to my toddler. I know Chana Masala is supposed to have some sweetness to it, but this was just too much! Like dessert! Since the service wasn’t great and the food wasn’t my favorite, I probably won’t be returning. Good naan though(but I’ve never had naan).

Seriously can’t beat their buffet! Especially the Thursday night dinner one. I wish they did the dinner buffet every night though. Service is hit or miss here. Usually you have to ask for refills. But it’s always clean, the food is great, and the price is great.

Great restaurant, only problem is it’s off of the main road and a bit hard to find. The curry was fantastic and the naan was fresh. As good as it gets short of actual Indian/middle eastern food.

Food was fine, but the service was appalling. Won’t return. Had to wait over 30 minutes for our food. After we were done, it took ages for them to come over to see how we were doing(actually, we had to ask directly for take out boxes – otherwise we may have sat for another 30 minutes). There were 3 guys behind the counter and 4 customers, so there was no reason for them to be huddled behind the counter ignoring the customers. The worse thing is that after we specifically requested the bill(because it probably never would have been brought over), the waiter brought the tab back for a signature and held it in front of me and said sign here. He kept his hand on the bill, waiting for me to sign it. Finally, I sort of edged it away from him, so I could look at it. He hovered directly over us until I signed it, then grabbed it away. So the only time they were attentive is when we were signing the tab. It’s as though they thought we were not going to pay for the meal. They must have known their service was so bad, that they thought we would run out on the bill. Very weird to treat people that way. Most ridiculous thing I have ever seen. No, I don’t look like a junky or a street person, and we’re not spring chickens. Indeed, we had just been at a community function in town. Good service is key to good dining experiences. Not going back.

I don’t live anywhere Yuba City and I’m not there very often, but Star of India is the best Indian restaurant I have EVER been to in the United States. Food: A+(literally everything on the menu is incredible, from starters to entrees to drinks, etc.) Service: A+(I’ve never had service better than this place) Ambiance: A(nice, clean place) I highly recommend this restaurant not just for eating in, but also for take-out and I’ve been told their catering is excellent too. Can’t recommend this place enough!

Delicious! And such an amazing value for the lunch buffet. Barely more than you’d pay going through a fast food drive through & just as fast ’cause it’s hot and ready to gobble up when you walk in the door! Their butter chicken is to die for. Their selection is pretty good, probably 15 – 20 options. They also have large cushiony booths and dim lighting. You almost want to take a nap when you’re done eating! There’s only one thing I would recommend for improvement & that is signage on each dish. Sometimes food is not labeled & I want to know what each dish is so I can learn about what I like & what I might skip over next time. At this place, there’s not much you want to skip over though! I’ve been here probably 10 times & plan on going back just about every time I pass through this town.

Went here for the first time. Good was excellent. the service was s little bit slow at times but the food itself was delicious and great portions. The price was also pretty decent, less than 20 for one person not including tip. Started to get pretty busy as we were leaving so must be a popular place. had plenty leftovers for dinner!

I forgot what I order but it was like a mix kind of meat in a platter and have some bell pepper and onion. I was disappointed for charging more cause it has shrimp included could of at least put more then just 2 shrimps. The kabob meat was dry and bitter. Typical Saturday for dinner hour they definitely need more help then just 1 guy in the font. It’s was alright.

Great service, 1 waiter on staff… This restaurant definitely lives up to its name. It’s definitely The Star of India in the heart of Yuba City… I love there food, the samosas, the naan… Omg! It tastes so much better than what Sikh Festival serves annually. No offense. Overall, try there rice soup dessert. I forgot what its called. But it’s sofa king amazing. Wished they had a medium size bowl instead of the little small cups to pour in… I had to do like 6 runs of back and forth to get more… Blah! And fix the bathroom timer at the men’s bathroom, give me a break. Every 30sec, the light shuts off… I have to keep waving my hand up in the air to turn it back on when the light shuts off when I’m pooping. At first I thought there was power shortage or something. Until there was a timer of every 30sec the light shuts off abruptly. ITSQUITEANNOYING!

Came here because my boyfriend just moved to Yuba City and had heard the Sikh population was large in the town. So, I craved Indian. The restaurant is a little tricky to find because it’s nestled within a business complex but that also means ample parking on weekends, which is good because they also have an attached banquet hall that can accommodate up to 150. The restaurant area itself is decently sized with about 20 tables. I started with a mango lassi that was good. A nice balance of smoothness and not too sweet. My boyfriend went with a plain lassi. It was his first lassi and I was pleased to see him enjoy it. We ordered the mixed tandoori, spicy lamb tikka masala, and(my usual order at Indian restaurants) garlic naan. The tandoori was delicious and had a good mixture of meats: shrimp, chicken, beef, and some sort of sausage I’d never seen before. The lamb was brought out in a cute copper-plated bowl and they were definitely generous with the huge chucks of lamb. The naan was piping hot and gloriously coated in garlic! My boyfriend was trying to have a carb-free day and was so easily swayed by the appearance of such delectable naan that he ate half my order and we had to order another! All in all, food is great, prices are good, and it’s most definitely a hidden gem in Yuba City. We’ll be back.

I had the Tandoori chicken and Garlic Naan. The food was delicious and the portions were huge. I couldn’t finish my food. My food was takeout so I didn’t experience the restaurant much but the staff were really friendly.

Now let me start with … I don’t usually have Indian food except for when I’m at work. I seldom crave it and haven’t visited many Indian restaurants to compare this place against BUT … for the freaken boonies out here, this was probably the best restaurant I have ever eaten at … relative to it’s surroundings. The lunch buffet was only $ 7.99 + tax on a Sunday afternoon! The restaurant is dimly lit and it’s hidden inside a plaza?(I don’t even know if you’d call it a plaza, cause it looks like a bunch of small warehouses to me.) When you first come in, they ask you what you’d like to do(order off the menu or do the lunch buffet? — we opted for the buffet — and what kinda naan do you want? — regular or garlic). The garlic naan was probably the highlight of my mom and I’s lunch — so go for the garlic! Do it do it! It’s made to order and is served nice and hot! The butter tofu is also tasty though I wish they put chicken instead of tofu that day! Service was pleasant, and I liked that they politely asked if we were paying separately or together(even though my mom and I were paying together). It’s nice not to have that awkward moment when you’re expected to pay for the other person when the original intent was to pay separately; the server eased that! c: I don’t encounter too many restaurants that ask that. Being a foodie and having tried many other restaurants outside of Yuba City, there’s definitely a lot of other, better options, but for being in the area that it’s in, I would say Star of India is up high on my list. My only complaint is that I wish the food was served hotter. The lunch buffet was at room temperature and I’m sure the food would’ve been way tastier had it been hotter! Please use better heating lamps!
