MTR Austin Station

As a HKU student living in the New Territories, I pass by the Austin Station every time I go to and from school. In the morning, I get off the train at this station to take the bus, and on my return journey, I walk to the station after getting off the bus to take the train all the way home.
Austin Station is probably one of the quietest stations I know. If you are used to the crowds in Central and TST station, the Austin Station will seem like a whole new (very beautiful) world. There is very little human traffic, and there is never any pushing or shoving here. What a refreshing change from many of the busy stations out there!
The Austin Station is also just the second stop from Hung Hom on the West Rail Line, after east TST. If you want to go to TST from here, it won’t take you more than ten minutes if you take one stop to east TST station and then walk underground to the TST station!
Not many stations have toilets that are open to the public — many are hidden, and if you want to use them you have to approach an MTR staff, who will lead you in after unlocking it for you. It’s always just one wheelchair toilet too. There is an actual restroom here, with more than six or seven cubicles! It’s also quite clean and you never need to wait, although that may just be because I have only ever used them in the morning.
One bad thing about the station is that the exits, specifically Exit A, are really confusing. Exit A leads out to the subway, where you can either continue walking straight, turn left or turn right and walk up to street level. If you can continue walking straight, there are more directions that you can turn too — so if somebody tells you to get out at Exit A, it’s not the most helpful advice. It took me forever to remember which path to follow after going out of Exit A to take the bus 970/​970X! (Hint — it’s straight (walking past the first exit on the right), a right turn, and then a left).
