This is a fast food restaurant, the menu is limited and based on high turnover. I’m sure this place is a great on a Friday or Saturday night. However this is competing with a group of chains that specialise in fast food. I had a very nice meal and a couple of glasses of wine. This part of Cardiff really needs some proper Indian Restaurants.

Waited half hour for table. Not good start. Took our order and then managed to get one of our party’s order completely wrong not even same curry he ordered never mind just wrong meat. Food was decent but from previous reviews was expecting to be blown away. And definitely on the expensive side

Where do we start? When we arrived at the restaurant, we noticed on the table that one of the menus was very sticky, and one of the glasses was filthy. On the menu, the food was on the pricey side, and it was £5 for a pint of beer! To add insult to injury, the staff did not seem to know anything about beer. When the food came, it was far from the best curry I had ever eaten. First and foremost, it was very salty. The service was not great either — the commend of English of the staff left a lot to be desired, and they got a couple of things wrong. When the bill came at the end, they had the cheek to slap on a 10% service charge. The service certainly did not justify this. So we refused to pay this charge. They were quite clearly annoyed at us for refusing. Needless to say, we won’t be eating there again.

The Brewery Quarter isn’t my idea of a good selection of restaurants but the Spice Quarter is its best. I went for a meal here after going out for the evening and getting to the stage of hunger where nothing with flesh is safe. Unfortunately I’d picked an evening when the Millennium stadium had played host to many thousands of Rugby fans and restaurants all across town were filling up fast. Although the Spice Quarter was really full they did their very best to find space and offered drinks while some earlier tables freed up. The table didn’t take too long and once sat, orders and meal were quickly dealt with. Considering how busy the place was it seemed that both the kitchen and the front of house had things under control. I’ve seen even very good restaurants struggle under the weight of a full-house so it is testament to the Spice Quarter that it coped so well. The food was excellent, just what is required in an Indian meal and it was inexpensive. I’d definitely go back, perhaps on a quieter night.

The Spice Quarter is a burgeoning chain restaurant that specialises in Indian food, and advertises itself as one of the only authentic Indian dining experiences outside of the country itself. I say it’s a burgeoning chain restaurant because, whilst there may only be two branches open in the UK, it has that particular brand of upmarket homogeneity that just screams«BUILDMEEVERYWHERE! I AMSAFERESTAURANT!» I understand that some people enjoy eating in places where they’re guaranteed a meal they’ve eaten before, but for me, that atmosphere sucks all the fun out of the dining experience. The Spice Quarter, however, bucks this trend. Whilst the design, the location, the layout and everything else about it screams bland commercialisation, the food is fantastic. It’s like the restaurant has two different business models; a chain restaurant-inspired design, with an authentic, home cooked style for the food. They serve dishes that I haven’t seen on any other Indian menus before. So if you’re like me, and take some issue with chain restaurants, push that aside for an evening and try the Spice Quarter. Let it surprise you.

Winner of ‘Best Indian Restaurant In Wales’, I’ve only dined once at Spice Quarter for a work-related meal, and overall my experience was quite mixed. First impressions were very good: the Brewery Quarter location is good; the interior décor is elegant, contemporary and stylish; and the staff are well-dressed and welcoming. What’s more, I actually really enjoyed my food, but(and it’s a BIG but) only after a prolonged kerfuffle and much confusion over which dishes belonged to whom — and even a couple of items sent back because they didn’t seem to be ones anyone had ordered. After then waiting for a couple of replacement meals to arrive, some of the group were half way through their meals by the time others were just starting: a classic group meal FAIL. This is less of a ‘curry house’ and more of a fine Indian restaurant — but while the food was tasty and the surroundings stylish, the service let the place down for me. Perhaps avoid busy nights or group outings here?

It was a friend of mines birthday in our student dorms. We all decided to ‘posh it up’ and visit the Spice quarters in the brewery quarter(I’m not sure if one name influenced the other). So with glad rags on and student loans in hand, off we set to the Indian restaurant on the horizon. As you’ll see from the setting is fantastic. Dark, moody, beautifully lit with great rustic eastern décor. I was really expecting to pay through the roof but was very surprised upon looking at the menu. Starts are a little more expensive but the main menu is cheaper than the likes of the chained restaurants around that immediate area. I had the chicken Tikka dish with coconut rice. From what I read, they do cater in far more authentic dishes if you so wished. The food was delightful. The chicken was cooked to perfection and would melt in your mouth. I also, as I do, shared a couple of bottle wines for about £10 each for house white which was crisp and light, a perfect accompaniment for the dinner. For such a large group the staff were great. Not one mistake was made, never was anything too much trouble ask. A great night all round and will be treating the loverly lady to there very soon.(Only if she reads this though…)

Awful. Nearly three hours for dinner, and not because we were having such a good time. Four of us ate, service was dreadful, food not even mediocre at best — having tried the rest of my friend’s dishes all were equally bland. Took ages to get served, years for drinks and officially the worst mojito I’ve ever tasted(moral here may be to not order mojitos in Indian restaraunts — but if you are going to serve it, learn how to mix it). Then asked for the bill a number of times with little sucess. Rubbish! Eat somewhere else, it’s not like there isn’t a choice around there, and frankly a greasy kebab from chippy lane would have been preferred.

Tucked away in Cardiff’s Brewery Quarter, off St Mary’s Street, you will love this most delicious and decorous restaurant. Staff are friendly but not intrusive and you get plenty of time to savour each course and the company. It’s pricey in a got a REAL reason to celebrate, but not re-mortgage the house, kind of way. Once you’ve tasted their food, especially their tiny, achingly sweet desserts, you’ll be clamouring to go back there, either for a romantic meal or dinner with friends you haven’t seen in FAR too long.

This is a really lovely modern Indian restaurant. The furnishings are great, and the tables placed so you never feel on top of anyone. It is reasonably pricey, however the portions were a good size and quality superb. Word of warning though — the medium curry I ordered was really very hot, so perhaps err on the side of caution. We’re not locals, but have been here a couple times when visiting Cardiff, and would certainly recommend it.

I went here with my dad back in the summer, Really nice interior, beautifully furnished. We ordered a couple of beers, the usual chutneys and poppadoms. he had a main starter and rice, so did. nice food, nice place. the bill was £68.00. i was glad my dad was paying! he was not impressed lol. If you like Indian food, try Cardamon by Victoria Park in canton. Reasonably priced, awesome food!
