This is a place that thinks it’s a lot better than it is. Food’s OK but nothing that special. They always add a service charge to your bill whether you want it it or not. No.

Here’s one for a special treat-although the midweek set lunches are good value. Michael Caines has become something of a local hero and his food is pretty amazing too! This is a rather posh restaurant in the Abode Hotel– demure, elegant and full of well to do retired couples whispering to one another and slightly inebriated local business talking in loud voices. But still a great place to eat some of the best food in Exeter-and what an outlook. It must get a star just for the beautiful view of Exeter Cathedral.

Part of Michael Caines Abode group of restaurants and hotels the place to go in Exeter for posh food. Service is efficient but a touch formal. Prices are high but food is high quality. Has a cocktail bar attached along with a more bistro style café and a deli. The place has upped its game a little recently cutting out a range of side dishes that bump up the already high prices, not charging for bread and producing canapes, an appetiser course and petit fours as part of the package. So its actually better value than it used to be. Food is modern british with maybe a classic french influence and cooking is extremely competent. don’t go if you expect west country portions as you may be disappointed! But worth it for a special night out. Park in Southernhay and walk through Cathedral Green.
