Casa Gispert is a nut roaster which has nuts and some spices. I went with a friend here to grab some smoked almonds and salad almonds which were really great. If you purchase the smoked almonds, be sure to get the fresh ones and eat them immediately! They do have some on staff who speak English also.

Maybe I picked the wrong day, but I wasn’t thrilled with my experience here. I was expecting a warm welcome, some samples, some explanation about the nuts… instead barely an eyeball was raised when I walked in and getting assistance with buying anything required quite the effort on my part. Had I not been excited about trying the so-called«amazing» almonds I would have walked out empty handed. Instead I bought a few bags of nuts — some for now, some for later — and while, yes, they were absolutely delicious, they would have been all the most tasty had they come with smile.

Amazing, ancient, delicious and extremely special, this gourmet food store has been around since 1851! They carry lots of olive oils, which are organized really nicely by flavor profile, Additionally, local and imported chocolates(mostly local), Catalan almonds, marcona almonds, many other fruits and nuts including beautiful, perfect shelled walnuts, macadamias and many others. You can also find saffron, peppercorns of several varieties, local jams and preserves, some unusual, etc. It’s worth a stop for the history, some snacks and the delicious smell inside. The staff mostly don’t speak English but the language of food is universal!

I can’t remember how I heard about Casa Gispert but I am so grateful to them, wherever they may be. Went there today on vacation because my husband loves roasted nuts, and their fresh-roasted almonds, which they will make you try a few seconds after you enter, are to DIE for! We bought half a pound(300g)… and should have bought more, as we’ve mostly clobbered them. I nabbed 100g of their pajarero figs too, and they were about 60 times better than the pajarero figs I bought at the Boqueria. On top of that, they sell«chocolate-covered figs» — I nabbed a couple and found out upon biting into the first one that they are also STUFFED with gianduia! Stick a fork in me, etc etc. The chocolate was of good quality, too — we had been hesitant because we weren’t sure if they were a «chocolate place» per se, but they are legit. We are going back there before we leave for sure, to stock up on figs, nuts, and chocolates for the trip home! As a guide, they have a 100g minimum and sell in 100g increments on most of the dried nuts; once you hit 500g the price becomes cheaper. For the chocolates, the minimum was«two pieces», I have no idea why. Worked for me, though. I’m going to buy a whole bunch of different things!

This place was great, they carry tons of spices and roasted nuts galore. They have been roasting nuts in the same oven for 160 years, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it… Its a very cool little place, everything is very old inside and they have a huge variety of cooking things. We stopped for a kit to make the panelettes which are the cookie they eat for the All Saints Day holiday.
