You’re paying for the view and atmosphere right on the beach. Had the squid ink paella that comes out in huge, shallow platters. It was fine… The focus is really on the beachy atmosphere.

Really enjoyable birthday dinner. Service is slow, but that is because in Spain it is rude to rush the customer… Something Americans are too used to. They took excellent care of us and gave us free glasses of Cava. I have seen a lot of reviews on here where people were disappointed with their fish and chips… And so I hope to convey 1 thing with my review: THISIS A RICEPLACE! You do not go to a place like this and order fish and chips! Along those lines, the pica pica was pretty generous and decent, but the calamari was just ok. However, the black rice was absolutely incredible! And they made it for one person. So, go to this place, definitely dine around sunset, and don’t order anything else besides the paella and some dessert!

Wanted to grab lunch on the beach after our arrival in Barcelona. Would give it 3.5 overall. Fish and chips for € 14 was fish battered in potato chips so no on the side frites! Tasty and hot but would recommend skipping the sauce — not sure what is was but tasted rather floral. A decent portion and tasted better with lemon. They goofed my partner’s paella order and brought seafood instead of Valenciana(€ 19) but they fixed and comped us a dessert. She had to wait another 20 minutes but paella was very good and not like the two over salted versions we had tried in Madrid. The chicken, rabbit and white beans with peppers were flavorful-not much rabbit and only one meatball but an order for one was plenty for two of us. Sangria with cava refreshing. Service acceptable but not real attentive once the food came.

Non-existent service. There are no signs so I couldn’t tell if it was seat yourself or not. I waited at the entrance for several minutes while the staff proceeded to basically ignore me. Then I decided to take a table and see what happened. For over ten minutes they looked at me and no one approached me or said anything. Eventually I just left as they don’t deserve my money. I travel constantly for business but this is my first trip to Spain, great experience so far.

Before leaving Barcelona I really wanted to try a good Paella. I read an article online that highlighted this place for their land and sea paella. I was sold. It was absolutely delicious! Worth the cab ride over to this area of town. We arrived around 9pm tables were easy to find. It started getting full around 10. Our biggest mistake was ordering only one serving of the paella and not two. It was that good. The cava sangria was amazing and full of flavor and really had a good kick. Gem of a spot. Service was also good. Very good by Europe standards. Give this place a shot.

Very nice options, expedite and well cooked meal. Seems pretty busy with a lot of reservations even for lunch and during weekdays. I had octupus tapas, calamari, cold cava and refreshing sangria were all good. Service was great too!

This rating is for paella. Really good, can actually taste the seafood. I’m not so sure why people think this restaurant is so overpriced? compared to ??? Great service, great views and great food. will be back next time.

This place is located right in the beach. That has its pro’s and cons. On the up side the location it’s perfect to grab a drink after a day on the beach. On the downside its location makes it very popular and with a huge affluence of people which makes for a very expensive menu and a rather poor service. I would recommend to chose a spot perhaps slightly further from the beach but where the prices and service are not mainly aiming at tourists.

Très bon restaurant en bord de mer. La sangria y est délicieuse et il y a un large choix de plats. Seul bémol, les prix un peu élevés.

Most authentic Paella in Barcelona. We were each served a pan of delicious paella. The rice was absolutely perfect and the tinto was delicious. It is easy to fall into many of the typical microwave paella tourist traps while visiting but is definitely NOT one of them.

Very mediocre. 20 euros for a seafood paella that didn’t have much seafood. It was also too salty. We also had a lightly battered calamari which could have used more seasoning. This place is overpriced and probably gets all the tourists visiting as it’s by the beach. My cousin had read that they have the best paella on the internet and that you have to make reservations because they are so busy. Don’t know why.

Overrated and overpriced… Nice location next to the beach and good food but not anything special. Some friends recommended this place for the paella and we were disappointed. Appetizers were ok but on the expensive side(16 € for salad and 18 € for the xipirons). They even charged 1.5 € per person for bread… We ended our dinner with some desserts(7.5 € each) which again was not up to our expectations. On a side note, service seemed to be lost but this could be a language thing.

I took a small group of friends to Xiringuito Escribá last night(July 17th, 2014) and was overall impressed with the restaurant itself, since it is right on the boardwalk between the beach and Avenida del Litoral, offering nice views of the ocean. The restaurant itself definitely seemed classier/fancier than the other chiringuitos that line the boardwalk, and the staff(from maître d’ to the bussers and servers) were all quite accommodating and patient in explaining the specifics of various dishes. We ordered a ‘ración de croquetas’ to start and were all especially impressed by the ones made with wild mushroom(croquetas de setas), but the cod & ham ones were simply adequate(croquetas de bacalao y de jamón). We also ordered the calamari(calamares de la playa) which happily came with a few pimientos de padrón(very typical Spanish green peppers) and some aioli sauce which was a lovely complement. The best appetizer, in my opinion, was a goat cheese salad(Tatin de Queso de Cabra) made with delicious cheese, and which came on a bed of arugula garnished with vinaigrette, tomatoes & raisins, the goat cheese cut from a roll and laid atop a bed of apple and pastry. If I were just rating the appetizers, I would probably have given this place a 4(or at least 3 stars). But the actual entrees that we had come for, traditional paella, were fairly lacking in all of our opinions. We ordered three individual paellas to share as a table, thinking we would see how they came out before ordering more. The three we chose were the Fideuá de l’Escribá(seafood paella made with Catalan noodles instead of rice with clams, mussels, cigalas, shrimp, sepia, artichoke, onion, green pepper, & fish stock), the Paella Mar y Montaña(Sea & Mountain rice paella, with clams, shrimp, mussels, rabbit, chicken, sausage, pork chop, asparagus & wild mushrooms) and the Arroz con Bogavante(which our waiter suggested we get instead of the Caldoso de Bogavante, another stew-like option which would not only have been harder to share but less appetizing on such a hot night). In our opinions, all three dishes looked lovely when they were presented on the table but the minute we dug in, we realized how very shallow the dishes were. We were scraping the rice and noodles from the bottom of the pan before we knew it, and the VERY meager portions of meat included in each dish were not enough to satisfy our hungry bellies after a day full of activity in Barcelona. The lobster paella(Arroz con Bogavante) was especially disappointing as it was the most expensive(at 32 euros, about 50% more than the other two dishes) and offered the least amount of seafood along with the thin layer of rice. While none of the dishes were lacking in flavor, they were all over-salted and left us with a fairly low opinion of traditional paella. We left without ordering dessert, and while the price we paid per person(about 21 euros) was not very expensive, we definitely had hoped for more appetizing meals and would have happily paid more for another dish or two of paella if we had enjoyed the first ones more.

Very. very. overrated. I would describe it even as pretentious. There are a lot of reviews in the net, saying that it is the best paella in Barcelona. Well, it is definitely not. And it is very upsetting to get to know it after booking the table at Xiringuito and finding out that on site. For me, Catalunya is about very good food and welcoming people. The service here indeed was good, but the food does not worth the price. You would probably leave the place half full and disappointed, as the photos of the portions does not match the reality. Fish paella barely contains any fish, or rice. If you want a overpriced food but with a nice beach view — welcome! Otherwise, there are a lot of places out there in Barcelona that worth your attention.

When my friend in Barcelona asked us if we had anything we wanted to do while we were in Barcelona, I told him there were only two things. And going to Escriba was one of them. He got really excited because he was planning on taking us here for Paella while we were in town and was glad I knew about. I meant the other Escriba, but if he recommended it(apparently his boss comes here quite a bit), I was down to eat some Paella. We originally tried to go on a Sunday, but it was completely booked. So we made a reservation for Tuesday so we could go back and give it a try. The reservation was probably unnecessary, but it didn’t really matter. The place is quite quirky in decoration and we got a seat right by the door so we had an amazing view of the beach while we were dining. We started with the fried baby squid. Really lightly fried and incredibly tasty. We then opted to get the sea and mountain paella.(Apparently mixing seafood and meat in Paella isn’t really done that often, but we went for it anyway.) My friend was also raving about the black rice paella. Since it wasn’t a very busy day, they told us we could get two orders of the sea and mountain paella and one of the black rice. Win.(That probably would have been out of the question on Sunday.) Seriously. Both the paella were top notch. We kept scraping as much as possible out of the giant paella pans they set down on our table. They were both definitely moreish and the other half said he wanted to order another black rice paella because it was so good. We got dessert instead. They looked amazing and strangely like they could have been from the Escriba bakery we had gone to the day before. Turns out this place is owned by the brother of the bakery. It was good to finally find that out. Also the desserts were fantastic. I ordered some cheese with xaxu cakes and a bit of sweet wine on the side. Heavenly. The other half ordered a mango dessert with a mint sauce. Definitely delicious too. Come here to get amazing Paella if you’re in Barcelona. The service wasn’t the best(again I just go with it being the laid back Spanish attitude), but the food was excellent. It may be a bit out of the way if you’re staying in the center of Barcelona, but it is definitely worth the trek.
