Spent a week in Barcelona in Feb 2016. Ate here twice and my only regret for the trip is that we didn’t eat here another time.
Great service. I mean Didac should be training others to work the front of the house.
Food is really awesome. We ate at many highly recommended tapas bars in Barcelona while we were there. Some were good, but none had food like Etapes. Food, like a good concert, should harmonize across the plates. Each plate at Etapes built on the next and the meal was combined with great wines.
The lamb shank, duck raviolis, scallops and cannelloni are all worth a return trip to Barcelona. I’d skip the paella, mostly because I’m just not a paella fan. My wife ordered it, and while it was good (probably the best I’ve ever had), I thought the other dishes were superior.

Small restaurant with excellent food and excellent service. If you want to make a reservation their website has an email address and they were very responsive. Their english is also good. Huge wine selection. I would simply do the 60 euro tasting menu and add the wine pairings if I could go again. We ordered a bunch of appetizers and the paella. All the appetizers were great, the paella however was not so good — strong burned taste to it. But then I feel like it’s on the menu only because they feel the have to. Avoid the paella. However everything else was so good that I feel like it deserves 5 stars despite this. For the quality of food it’s also very good value.

I would have considered Etapes a 5 star establishment based on service alone; luckily the food was also incredible.
First, the service. Communication with the staff via email was efficient and they were able to accommodate our party of 8 without issue. One guest and I arrived early and decided to chat and wait for our party outside — a server noticed us and offered to bring us drinks and turn on the terrace heater while we waited. Later, one of the children in our group wanted orange fanta while the other wanted just plain orange juice; our server went away to fetch drinks and then informed us they do not carry orange juice, but she asked a bus boy to run down the street and buy some for us. That was a really nice touch, in particular for one of the children.
The tasting menu was simply fantastic, and well worth the price. I’ll echo other reviews and say it felt like a steal. Fresh scallops, tasty salmon crudo, and tender cochinillo were great highlights, but the wine stole the show: a lovely 2009 Syrah from the owner’s cellar complemented the meal nicely.
Will definitely return on my next trip to Barcelona.

12 prior ratings said 5 stars. I am not sure if I am happier with Didac — the wonderful host and his girlfriend — or Unilocal.Lean in and celebrate your life and dinner companion if you can possibly surrender an evening at Estapes. A reservation is recommended. We got lucky.
My wife and I had the tasting menu with the wine pairings. Each wine from a different Catalan region was described with colorful notes and purpose for pairing by Didac. I covet his 600 bottle cellar. Each dish was wonderfully prepared, beautifully plated and as delicate as it was delicious. The entire meal was paced, served and balanced. Nothing pretentious about the seating but location is beautiful and every serving arrived with pride and the joy of owners doing what they love. We left completely sated in every way.
For $ 100 per person at the current dollar exchange rate, you will feel like you stole it.

Absolutely deserves a five star review. The food here is all «a la minut» which means if you order rice it will take 20 minutes, as noted on the menu. We started with a salad that included pumpkin and watermelon — refreshing and delicious. I had the fish of the day (sea breem) which was perfectly cooked; my wife had smoked rice which she loved. We ended with tiramisu which we had without the ladyfingers (my wife is gluten intolerant).
The staff is wonderful — attentive to your needs and cheerful to serve you. Foodies — don’t miss this one!

Every night there is a huge wait here and for very good reason. Everything is exceptional. This was my first cuisine experience in Barcelona and I could not have been more pleased. With a party of 5 we choose to eat everything family style, and let our waiter pick all of our dishes. All the tapas were delicious and a bit more adventurous than we would have chosen ourselves. The wine pairings were phenomenal as well. When I return to Barcelona I will be sure to stop here again!

Lovely restaurant on a quiet pedestrian street. Excellent service, pleasant setting. And the food was terrific. I had the paella, my companion the fish of the day. The chocolate «textures» for dessert were delicious and very memorable. Highly recommended.

Family run, well executed, spanish bistro-nomia. Great value for money, comfortable surroundings. excellent wine selection by the glass. Not big though so make sure to book. Was open on a Sunday night too!

We were recommended to this Restaurant by the Concierge at our hotel.
I am so thankful for this recommendation because the evening and the food could only be classified as exquisitely spectacular.
We came in without a reservation, and although they were fairly booked, they moved two tables to accommodate us so that «we would not have to look at a wall.» Talk about excellent service.
The three waiters were all equally courteous and knew what they were doing.
Despite a 16 person group seated next to us, the restaurant was comfortable and very stylish.
Then came the food, the menu is in Catalan, as it should be, but it is impossible to go wrong.
The appetizers were delicious and delicate, and the main courses were even more so.
This meal probably ranks as one of the most delectable meals I have ever eaten around the globe.
A very gracious host and restaurant, accompanied by exquisite cuisine, look no further for your stay in Barcelona. I can only hope my travels bring me back to this wonderful place.

I came to Barcelona for a visit in December 2013, and Etapes was highly recommended by our hotel concierge as a must try in Barcelona. Since the restaurant is small, I highly recommend making reservations for this amazing restaurant as you do not want to miss out on this delicious cuisine.
For our meal we ordered the:
— Foie Gras — delicious and the texture was amazing
— Cannelloni App — the cheese was melted perfectly, and the whole appetizer tied together so well with flavor and was delicious
— Bread with Tomato
— Seafood Paella — definitely recommend, we ordered for serving of 4 people and it came out in a huge pan before it was served individually.
— Crema Catalana — delicious and a great way to end a fantastic meal
— Tiramisu — didn’t get to try
Everything was absolutely delicious and the presentation of every course was so gorgeous that I almost didn’t even want to eat it! The servers were so knowledgeable on the wine and offered great recommendations on wine pairings for our meal. This was such a great experience at Etapes and I would highly recommend coming here if you’re in Barcelona. The meal was so affordable based on the quality of the meal, and I agree with the hotel concierge that this place deserves a Michelin star!

Excellent. We were there for the lunch menu, which featured a succulent osso buco and a very tasty bonito (tuna) dish. Even the pan entomatau, which you can get anywhere, was particularly good. We took a table outside and found it very pleasant. It is extremely affordable and definitely worth going back for.

This was one of the best restaurants that I have ever eaten that. If you factor in how affordable it was, especially for the quality of the food, it may be the best restaurant I’ve ever eaten at overall. The food was amazingly fresh and every single dish delighted. I don’t generally speak in hyperbole, and I honestly mean everything that I’m saying (typing) right now. I highly recommend it.
I was there in August of 2012, with a group of guys for a bachelor party, and every single one of them thought that the meal was at least very good (some agreed that it was terrific). Whenever I have a chance to return to Barcelona I will absolutely go back to this restaurant.

Cuando hay ganas de hacer bien las cosas y agradar a los clientes dando un buen servicio y una buena cocina surgen restaurantes como Etapes. Cocina con producto de primera, bien preparado y mejor presentado, buen servicio de vino y local super agradable. Caro? Depende de cada uno, yo creo que lo vale. Para volver sin dudarlo!
