Buena calidad a buen precio.

I got this place recommended by one of the locals on my current visit to Barcelona. I asked specifically for tapas places and He wrote a couple of places down on a piece of paper. He used a whole page to describe this place while he jammed the other places on the other side of the paper. Some of the words he used to describe this place was; «not touristy», «best tapas» and«delicious». And they were all true. This place is hidden, and when you enter you are certain that only locals are here to enjoy their late dinner. We were six non local people asking for a table. The waiter was friendly and guided us and presented the menu. The best part is that he was honest and explained what comes on a daily basis(fresh goods) and what is «standard» menu. I looked through the menu, and hey — what do you know? 90% of the menu was glutenfree. Not only did they mark underneath each tapas dish that it was glutenfree but also what tapas was vegetarian. We were a party of seven people so we ordered different tapas. The cow cheeks was really good, the meat was so tender that it almost melted in the mouth. The tuna tartar was to die for, but my favorite was the spinach dip served with nachos, I could not get enough. We ended up paying 20euros each for two rounds of different tapas and drinks, so cheap! Great place, great price, great food! Enjoy!

Carrer Blai in Poble Sec is somewhere to get lost. With probably around 30 places serving drinks and pintxos, it is quite difficult to find the right one. It is hard to get a spot on the terraces, so when you get one you mount your barricades there and plan to stay for a while. We got a spot the day of the champions league final and I have the chance to stay with some friends, chatting happily about the match and other issues in live. The menu looks good and we had the chance to taste their chorizo omelette, that I have to say is moist, tender and tasty. The waiters are dressed with this long aprons that gives the place some style. But what I liked more it was the price. It looks is going to be more expensive but no, it is just right.

Tons of pintxos to choose from. 1.80euros a piece and every one of them were unique and tasty. We also had the mushroom omlette which I thought was ok but my mom really liked. The staff was super friendly, spoke English and made sure we had everything we needed.

Found this place via Unilocal, really close to our hotel and after a day of exploring Barcelona my feet weren’t up to a wander to more touristy areas of the city for dinner. The place is quaint and wasn’t busy — but then we arrived at about 7.30pm, it was certainly busier when we left around 9. We had the chorizo, salami, omelette with potato, onions and chorizo and the potatoes(can’t remember the name of the dish in Spanish, it’s boiled new potatoes cooked up in salted water and served with a spicy sauce). The potatoes were delicious — a definite recommendation. I’ve had better chorizo but this one was fine for a casual dinner. My husband enjoyed the omelette too. Decent prices, we had our tapas and some wine and beer — total cost 27 euros. There were plenty of pintxos to choose from but we weren’t feeling adventurous. There was smoked salmon, jamon iberico, tuna stuffed into a pepper and many more. All in all, I’d have given it 3.5 stars but I don’t have that option. Fine for a casual meal with good food, attentive service and a nice atmosphere.

I really don’t understand why this place has such glowing reviews. We visited Koska because of Unilocal and ordered a few pintxos but were quite disappointed. The jamón had way too much mayonnaise, the cod was dry and flavorless, and the stewed beef we ordered was tender but flavorless as well– with an overly gooey sauce. The beef was definitely a rip-off for 9 euros, especially compared to the great pintxos you can get in the area. Don’t waste your time here; Tasqueta de Blai or Quimet y Quimet are much better for the same price.

My wife and I had a wonderful experience at Koska. We were looking for another tapas place which was closed but found Koska purely by accident. The street it’s on is lined with small restaurants serving tapas or turkish food. It’s very pleasant sitting outside in the warm summer eve of Barcelona. Do note that people in Barcelona tend to start thinking about dinner around 8. We got there around 6:30 which was a bit early. Many restaurants were still setting up. We sat down and ordered some white wine. The lady who took our orders was very friendly and helpful in Spanish or English. After the first drinks we decided to Go for the tapas. I noticed many people ordered right at the counter and usually got a plate to share with pieces of bread with different kinds of toppings. We actually ordered from the menu posted outside with recommendations. We ended up ordering 4 plates of tapas: fuenta(a type of salami), a small plate of peppers, ansjovis in olive oil and our waitress’ favorite: cow cheek braised in red wine which was absolutely tender and delicious. Don’t be discouraged by the sound of the dish. You will get a good sized piece of meat which is very juicy and tender with only a bit of fat and a lot of flavor. The other plates we got were delicious as well. The peppers went very well with the white wine. The salami was great with the small bowl of bread we also received. The ansjovis was my personal pick. After several hours of dining we had a total of 4 plates of tapas, 5 glasses of white wine and a glass of water. The bill was roughly 30 euros and we definitely did not leave hungry. Don’t be discourage by the small size of the plates. They are meant to be enjoyed during conversation and if you want more you can always walk up to the counter. We’ll definitely be going back there during this trip to discover more types of food. Just be open to the experience a d don’t be afraid to pick up some spanish along the way.

Volveremos seguro.
