Pastelería Santa Clara

Los mejores croissants de chocolate y las mejores ensaïmadas de la ciudad de Barcelona! Tienen una gran variedad de dulces, a cual más bueno! Los precios muy razonables y si estás cansado, puedes sentarte a tomar un cafecito!

Bei spanischen Konditoren bin ich immer vorsichtig. Wie bei Ihren Kriegsschiffen im 17. und 18, Jahrhundert, sehen die Dinger meist nur großartig und kunstvoll aus, halten aber nicht, was sie versprechen. Man sieht kunstvoll aufgetürmte Crème, großzügigen Einsatz von Nüssen und luftigen Bisquit — ein zorniges Gedicht über den heiligen Krieg gegen die schlanke Linie — doch oft ist es einfach die pappsüße und unausgewogene Kopie von Backwaren, die man woanders schon wesentlich besser hatte.
Hier allerdings hat es uns geschmeckt: o) Nicht zu süß, nicht zu gewaltig, trotzdem gehaltvoll genug, um den süßen Fehltritt beschämt mit wunderbar kräftigem Americano kontern zu müssen.
In der Straße gibt es eine Reihe anderer Patisserien, die wir nicht alle ausprobiert haben. Aber hier kann man sich sein Nachmittagspfund abholen und wird nicht enttäuscht.
Preislich gibt es nichts zu Meckern: Kaffe für € 1,50, Stückchen für etwa € 2,50.
Leider: Auch hier wird Gemütlichkeit nicht großgeschrieben. Zu wenig Platz, zu hektisch der Service, zu viele Reste vom Vorgänger in Form von Krümeln auf Boden und Tischen. Aber Kaffeehauskultur sucht man leider in Spanien meist vergebens.

I do believe that one of the reasons that I love Barcelona, is that I can find a pastry shop everywhere! I mean, literally every 50 yards or so. Santa Clara is one that i frequented during our last visit and it did not disappoint. It’s a small shop but they offer a nice selection of pastries and sandwiches. I love that they have individual servings of my favorite, Brac de Nata.
Fortunately for me, Barcelona is a pedestrian city. Walking everywhere helps to burn the caloric intake. I guess I can use that excuse to justify my daily indulgences! That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it.

The initial reason I decided to check this bakery out was simply due to its name — Santa Clara University alum, Pasteleria Santa Clara, haha. But the wide variety of baked goods here, very friendly service, and good coffee are what actually brought me back. And I almost never eat at the same place more than once while on vacation, so I mean it when I say how happy I was to come here. They also have good specials on their xocolata amb xurros or café amb llet + a pastry. It’s a small café, but they have a lot of different eye-​pleasing pastries and confections (it’s also a ‘bomboneria’ — candy store). It’s right next to the Jaume I metro station and right off the Via Laietana. And it’s been running since 1834, so obviously they’re doing something right.
