Service is not good… No one knows where the line is or where to place an order. Almost all the employees I have spoken to are grumpy, upset or just annoyed with everyone and anything. Way over priced for coffee and dessert. Gelato is very good though. On Sat, my husband and I went because it is the only coffee shop in the area. My husband asked the barista, «Excuse me ma’am, are you making the caramel lattes?»(The place was a mess so we didn’t know how they would know who the coffee went to) The barista responded angrily, «I’m working on it!» I was shocked. Won’t waste my time and money again unless I NEED a coffee, haha!

Caffe Gio should be a great dessert choice after any dinner eaten at any of the Avalon restaurants, but it falls a little short of my expectations. $ 7 per dessert slice. I should have taken a picture. For a slice of their nocciola cake which is less than 3-fingers wide, it was $ 7. At best, I would have paid $ 5 for it. I’ll give it to them for their quality of tiramisu. A serving of tiramisu was twice the size of the nocciola cake, but the same price. I’ll come back for other items, but it’s kind of overpriced. I’d really much rather drop by Whole Foods’ bakery to get my cake/dessert fix after dinner. Service was ok. We were there 30 min before closing on a Saturday night and the staff seemed frazzled over the late surge of people there for drinks/desserts. The café could do a better job to be more organized and to label their desserts.

Coffee is decent, but service is absolutely terrible. Ordered an iced latte and it was still warm when they handed it to me. Misheard my orders and instead of apologizing, corrected me before begrudgingly remaking the drinks. Would not recommend!

Eh. Service wasn’t super friendly. I was able to sample two things while the sign stated only one sample per person. The pistachio and strawberry gelato were good, but it wasn’t awesome to any degree. With these two flavors, my friend and I shared the large cup – $ 6. There was a good amount of spaces inside and some tables outside as well. Aim for the movie theater, and this place is to the left of it.

Unfortunately, disappointing experience. Desserts aren’t fresh and overpriced. Personnel mostly rude to customers, especially in a busy weekends. Coffee supposed to be tasty, as far Illy brand is good in Europe, but not here for some reason, served in a plastic cups again.

I enjoyed my pistachio gelato, it was a little on the too sweet side and had lots of almondy flavor which I enjoyed. Buy I’m really here to say try the cappuccino flavor gelato, it is soooooo goooood. Like perfectly balanced and really great coffee flavor that you can tell is quality beans and roasting.

Came by for dessert one night and were pleased to find a custom cannoli bar at Caffe Gio. I chose the chocolate flavor and the woman making it was very nice. We had a pleasant conversation about the shop’s venus flytrap and I was more than satisfied with her service. Afterwards we sat there and finished the dessert on the nice barstools. There was one other party having late-night coffee there. Overall, a nice place to have a quick dessert.

The place is casual and trendy– it’s also one of the only dessert places in the Avalon, so that itself gets the place lots of customers. Coffee tastes like k-cups, and mine wasn’t even that hot. Skip it and save $ 3. Gelato was ok– nothing special. It’d be much cheaper to get a tub at Publix that tastes just as good. I would give 1 star, but I went for the gelato and it wasn’t terrible. Service was horrible. It was the first time I left a restaurant/café without tipping. I was standing in line, but the staff went on to do their own thing after they served the man in front of me. After I got their attention, they just asked me what I wanted and the girl had to ask her co-worker what the price was. They need to step up their game and stop relying on the fact that their location and will bring in customers.

This gelato is life changing. I don’t know what else to say lol. If you are at the Avalon and don’t stop in here Evrrytime… we can’t be friends.

Well I would give 0 stars but alas not available. So where to begin. Always a very very very long wait. Good coffee but oh so overpriced! Not to mention the tiny pieces of mediocre cake costing $ 7 and above. And the staff, well they all think they are auditioning for the next Dolce Gabbana catalogue and couldn’t be bothered to make two espressos at 10:59 because they are closing at 11… Aaah, who needs to worry about business and winnings clients when you can sit pretty and pretend to work…

I’m basing this review solely on the coffee; they also have gelato and other things on the menu that looked quite appealing too. Came here hanging out with my friends at Avalon for the day and stopped by to get our usual coffee fix. The place looks great, right next to Antico pizza and Regal cinemas. I went for the iced latte, they serve it without sugar so that you can sweeten it at your own taste, the latte was good and the staff was very friendly. Nice place to catch up with your friends for sure, I would like to come back soon and try their gelato next time. All in all a nice visit. P. S. Can I just mention the fact that it seems like finally is easier to park in Avalon compared to last time I visited haha, definitely a plus.

Torn on this place. Gelato is amazing, as are the desserts and so many fun coffee options! Very pricey and small amounts for what you get. And then there is the really awful service. Today I stopped in after a work lunch and ordered the coffee special of the day, advertised as an iced latte on the blackboard, and a slice of cake to take to a coworker. The employee at the register was very unfriendly and unhappy to be at work and maybe spoke two words if that. $ 12.95 later, the cake box was dirty where she got frosting all over it and the«iced» coffee was hot. I took it anyway because I needed to get back to work. All said it was delicious, but is it that hard to say«good afternoon and thank you» to a customer? And my tiny coffee and piece of cake should have been more like $ 8.

this place is just awful, don’t waste your time getting coffee there, they have no clue what the heck they are doing. and the croissants… are disgusting, I threw away mine. it still had the freezer taste on it. go to whole food for great coffee and baristas that know how to make you a decent cup of coffee or lattee. what a shame, even the costumer service is horrible, a bunch of kids with no manners. I gave this place 3 tries, and been disappointed every single time. will not go back.

I took my kids there to get gelato before the movie. The place was not busy with no line. We ordered two single cup of gelato, one slice of fruit tart and one bottle water. Total is $ 20. During the whole time, the young boy at the counter did not offer any greeting or smile. He gives such a cold attitude that makes me think that I walked in a wrong place. My kids like the gelato although the size is quite small, even for a 4 year old. The fruit tart is good, not too sweet, it is a little pricy though.

Caffe Gio is a very good restaurant. The hazelnut gelato is amazing and the coffee will change your life. Everyone should go to this place sometime in their life. And that girl Anna is really attractive.

I was pretty disappointed. My brother and I were exploring Avalon when I noticed out of the corner of my eye Caffe Gio. I remarked that I thought Caffe Gio sold gelato, so my brother suggested we go check it out. They charge $ 5 for a «singolo»(one flavor) and $ 6 for a «mezzo» which the guy at the counter said is two flavors. Based on that alone, it would have been more cost-effective to just get a mezzo, but for some idiotic reason, each of us got a singolo. My guess is that even if you got the mezzo, each scoop would be pretty small because the mezzo cup wasn’t too much bigger than the singolo cup. My brother, being on the indecisive side, asked if he could try a sample. I already knew from reading reviews of the midtown Caffe Gio that they do not allow this, and the same goes for here. A lot of people are angry about this, judging by the reviews on here. I would say that the owner should reconsider this policy. The prices are rather exorbitant for what you get, and I think the least he could do is allow customers to sample what they are paying a premium for, no? I got the Fragole(strawberry) and brother got the Pistacchi. We also got a couple cannolis to go($ 3.50 each) because my brother mentioned trying them at Antico’s a couple years ago(same owner runs both establishments) and he really loved them. They have the shells ready to go and will fill it up with your filling of choice(original or chocolate) and dip it in your choice of topping(I saw toasted coconut, ground up pistachio and some other nuts, white chocolate chips and dark chocolate chips). We opted for original filling with dark chocolate chips. We went outside to enjoy our treats. I really did enjoy my strawberry gelato, it was just a puny serving size. I tried some of the pistachio and found it odd-tasting — the gelato itself was a bit bland, and then the pistachios must have been roasted because they were very strong-flavored and mushy as well :( The cannoli had a lemony taste to it, and I see I am not the only one who thought so. The more I bit into it, the filling started to taste more sour than lemony. What was up with that?! No food poisoning, but I can’t say the thought didn’t cross my mind.

This place is nice and casually trendy. The décor is very nice and looks expensive. The menu is not that big. They serve gelato, pastries and good coffee. I’ve tried the pastries. They are not too rich or too sweet. The crème brûlée is not really crème brûlée it is mainly flan consistency with espresso coffee. It is good but not what you would expect. A must try item on the menu is the Affogato, gelato served in espresso. It is served in a beautiful latte glass. It is dessert and coffee in one! They only have 4 coffees on the menu. I wished they had more options. I always ask them to make my macchiato(shot of espresso) into an Americano by adding hot water to it and they honor my request. I always get coffee and dessert here every time I’m at Avalon.

To get the taste of shame out of our mouths, Annie, Bear, and I went to Caffe Gio after dinner to get some gelato. The place seemed busy, so it gave me time to look around. The décor– you could also tell here no expense was spared. The thick, dark woods to the white tiling and the high end espresso machines, it made it look like they were all about business. Looks sure can be deceiving! The pay counter is right when you walk in, causing a bottleneck. It took me a moment to realize you order gelato at the left, then fight your way to the pay line. For the gelato, you pay $ 5 for a infant sized cup, or $ 6 for a toddler sized cup. There are cones, but not sure how much. They were premade, and looked they could only fit newborn portions. I got the bigger of the mint chocolate chip. The shit starting running everywhere. I got a spoon that was the size of my pinky. That helped the cause of spilling green shit all over white tile none. Carlos ordered a cone, he got a cup(another reason I have no idea how much). We stood in line, and watched unorganized chaos ensue behind the counter. I saw kids working, but nobody gave me lip. Well I just would have had to teach them a life lesson if that were the case. After paying, we noticed the seating was full. However, attached Antico had seats, so we sat at a community table there. I needed to get situated quick, all of that green stuff made me look like the Hulk. That kiddy spoon wasn’t cutting it. Thankfully, there were plastic forks at the table. I grabbed one, and went to town. The consistency of mine was sooo odd. Half of it was melted, the other was as tough as kneaded mozzarella. It just kept stretching and would not disconnect from the rest of the gelato. Was it even gelato? The flavor was like chalky mint. I just wanted to finish it ASAP to clean up the mess. While I was finishing, I felt a nice hit into my bench and side. Sone genius decided to drive a cart of gelato into me, and knocking the trays onto the ground. Smooth move. Glad I already got my order. I know this place gets busy, but they gotta do a better job of letting the stuff set before it gets served. In terms of coffee, no idea how it was. Oh yea, when using the bathroom(inside Antico) I would suggest using the stall instead of the urinal, unless you want piss on your pants and on the floor… Just saying… The only good thing I can say for now is that the décor is awesome and the milfs pour in here after dinner. Other than that, I am better off driving downtown to get some Jeni’s.

I can’t really really judge this place yet, but I am going to anyway. I went on their 3rd day somehow and added it to Unilocal.Somehow amazing places find me sometimes. It must be the Unilocal elite in me that attracts them. I was craving coffee at Avalon. I walked in and it was crazy busy, but it wasn’t really because at first I thought that the window was actually a door to their dining area where you can sit down. Later I realized that’s ANTICO! Antico was crazy jam packed and this place was not too bad. Caffe Gio’s gelato looked amazing, but it seemed too decadent for my taste at that moment so I stuck to just coffee. I wanted to get a million different coffees, but the menu was very limited due to the fact that their syrups shipment hasn’t come yet. I couldn’t try their affogato(where they add ice cream to the espresso) and I couldn’t try their lattes with nutella. Caffe Gio just kept teasing me with their menu. So I’m just going to truly review it when I come back and try these amazing sounding things and just say that this is a cute coffee shop at Avalon. Avalon needed a coffee shop since it’s an awesome hang out place otherwise. I think Caffe Gio, a European style Italian gelato and coffee venue, filled that need nicely. PS: Their cappuccino is amazing. It’s cute and simple, but great quality. If you’re looking for something sweet, I wouldn’t get it, but if you’re a coffee lover, I would definitely try it.
