When you have eaten at a place 100+ times you get to know the people and the food. Larry and his crew always make you feel like your family. The food is consistent and good. This is a locally owned landmark of Amarillo. Try them!

Ribs and beans stole the show, but every thing(brisket, sausage, potato salad, and cole slaw) where all very good. Ribs might be the best I’ve had anywhere and that says a lot from this Texan.

Great food. Great people. Generous portions. Fast and friendly service, although the place can get hectic when they’re very busy. The Half Moose Frito Pie is my favorite… especially when slathered with extra barbecue sauce.

Awesome frito pie and quick friendly service. We always stop by Crazy Larry’s when we are in the Amarillo area. The Fritos, chopped beef, beans and cheese are a great combination.

Frito pie is good IMHO, hot link sand was good, but it smacks of fast food(in fact they have a drive thru). The food is definitely passable, but not by any means fabulous Texas BBQ. Worth a stop once for the Frito Pie, if that’s your thing. Frito Pie is Brisket, beans cheese, Fritos and BBQ sauce, all layered on a plate and served up. A half order is definitely a meal.

Frito Pie is a must!!! The brisket used on it is so tender and extremely savory. Beans are great and aren’t too sweet and don’t take away from the brisket. Their sandwiches are great too, esically the new rib sandwich(you’ll have to have two). If you’re looking for ribs, they serve up the best in town; Smokey and tender! The sides are nice too; I’m not a fan of potato salad, but theirs keeps me coming back. Staff extremely friendly too.

I’ve only been to Amarillo once in my life but, if I ever return, I will be dining at Crazy Larry’s Pit Bar-B-Que. This place has everything: meat, mullets, and inspirational messages on signage. First, let’s talk meat: they got all the cuts and slabs you could ask for. Frito pie seems to be the local favorite. It’s a premium choice if you’re looking to transport some old-fashioned, artisan chili meat into your stomach at a high velocity. I ordered the sliced brisket sandwich and was not disappointed: they take some handcrafted brisket meat and place it in-between two slices of a golden, lightly-toasted bun before adding some Crazy Larry’s «Slam-Ya-Face» sauce. Fantastic execution! Props to Crazy Larry for pioneering a game changing meat consumption formula. Now, mullets. I know you’re thinking«Woah woah stop. Mullets in a Unilocal review?» Yeah. Mullets in a Unilocal review. When I visited Crazy Larry’s Pit Bar-B-Que, Crazy Larry himself was present in the establishment. While I didn’t have direct contact with him, he made an impression upon me that will last a lifetime. His majestic and slightly poofy mullet commanded my attention as soon as I entered the seating area. My gaze was disrupted only to coordinate the aforementioned meat transfer from my sandwich to my gullet. Citizens of Amarillo should seriously consider petitioning the City of Amarillo to name Crazy Larry’s mane as a city landmark/treasure. A ruling like that would be a home run for both Crazy Larry’s Pit Bar-B-Que as well as the City of Amarillo(Can you say tourist trap??). Finally, I want to say a bit about the prominent sign that marks the location of Crazy Larry’s Pit Bar-B-Que. Most Bar-B-Que establishments have signs that relay the name of the restaurant and, maybe if you’re very lucky, the tagline or slogan. Crazy Larry’s Pit Bar-B-Que takes restaurant signage to the next level: they have the name, slogan, ANDANINSPIRATIONALQUOTE. This is unmistakably a game changer. Why would you ever want to go to any other Bar-B-Que establishment when you can be motivated by a Crazy Larry aphorism while gorging your body with Crazy Larry approved frito pie? When I visited, the adage that greeted me was«We Live By The Choices We Make.» This is an invaluable little reminder that our destiny is ours to command. I commanded my destiny by shoving greasy meat into my body(ha ha). Since my visit to Crazy Larry’s Pit Bar-B-Que, I feel more confident and my performance is notably enhanced. Coworkers stop me around the office to ask me what’s different. I grin and shrug my shoulders but I really know what’s behind my new self-image(Thanks Crazy Larry!). If you ever find yourself visiting North Texas, I humbly beg you to try Crazy Larry’s Pit Bar-B-Que. Crazy Larry’s Pit Bar-B-Que offers a Bar-B-Que experience that is unparalleled. Just tell ‘em the«Frito Big Boy» sent ya. God bless.

Always great service and the best Frito chili pie I’ve ever had. Enough said! P. S. This is the shortest review I’ve ever done by a long shot… but two sentences sums it up nicely.

BESTFRITOPIEEVER. Enough said. The chopped beef was okay. Sorta dry and flavorless without any bbq sauce. The chili was very flavorful and delicious! Peach cobbler had too much breading and not enough peach. It wasn’t that good, but if you get it with the ice cream, it tastes a lot better! If you go, you have to get the frito pie! It is absolutely delicious! People working there were really witty and friendly. Good customer service. As a warning, if you want water, you have to order it by the bottle(they don’t have free tap water).

Not as good as it used to be. The sausage on my sandwich tasted old and looked old. The chopped beef sorta tasted burned and blah. Overall was disappointed. This place used to be be really good, too bad it changed.

Larry may not remember my name, but he sure remembers seeing my face! I have been eating here for years. I once rode a circus style Penny Farthing(big wheel) bicycle across town just to eat here! I rode through the drive through to order and I think they might even have some pictures of me if you ask Larry. This is my favorite BBQ restaurant, and I always stop by when I’m back in town. I always get a sausage sandwich, brisket sandwich, and a bowl of pinto beans. Good BBQ, fair price, good service.

On a road trip from LA to New Orleans, we decided to drive through random parts of TX. Eating is always a concern for us because of my wife’s celiac disease and we often find ourselves explaining to someone who makes promises that the meal will be gluten free, and then mysteriously, my wife gets horribly ill and experiences celiac issues. Not the case at Crazy Larry’s! We decided that BBQ would be the most likely safe food in a part of TX where the choices of what was safe seemed limited. What a great choice it was! Prior to arriving, I called to get directions because my GPS wasn’t finding it. The nicest sounding man was very helpful and said«call me back if you need help.» When we arrived, Larry was behind the register and acted like his long lost brother and sister had just arrived. We asked him if he knew what celiac was and surprisingly, he did. In fact, to make us feel extra safe, he called out his wife to be doubly sure on a few items. My wife felt very comfortable at this point. She felt even more comfortable when Larry served up a sample of his delicious brisket. Before we were served, he introduced us to his whole family — easily the nicest person we’ve met in TX — and they put together a fantastic assortment for us. We left very satisfied with the meal and just as pleased to have met such nice people. Although the chances of us being in Amarillo any time soon are quite remote, I’m certain we’d go back again.

So far I’m impressed. I’ve only tried the Frito Pie so far, but it was DAMNGOOD! I can’t say anything about the actual BBQ yet, but you can bet I’m dying to try it now. For $ 9, you get a full Frito Pie, which is a huge plate of Fritos, baked beans, pulled pork, and cheese. For an extra $ 1, you can get it «moose» style — which means you also get chili. To me, you HAVE to get it «moose» style! The crispiness of the chips mixed with the tender baked beans, hearty chili, chewy pork and the gooey cheese make for a very tasty dish. The«cherry» on top was the BBQ sauce. It’s sweet and tangy and I want to put it on everything. lol There’s no waiter service. You order up front and then carry your food to your table on a tray. After you eat, you have to bus your own table. You put your plates and silverware into the bucket and the napkins and cups into the trash. It’s not a lot to ask, but I don’t like having to clean up after myself when I eat out. As much as I loved the Frito Pie, it’s impossible to rate an restaurant completely based on it. Even if the pulled pork, which is the only«BBQ» aspect of this Frito Pie, was bad it would’ve been masked by the chili, cheese, and sauce. So for now, Crazy Larry’s earns a solid three stars. Stay tuned for a future update when I go back to try the ribs and brisket. I can’t wait to go back again! Pros: best Frito Pie, great BBQ sauce, takes credit cards Cons: closed Sundays, you have to bus your own table, needs a renovation
