My son recommend this place because he had eaten here before with his grandfather. So we all piled in the car. Hubby and my two sons, and we headed there just before they closed. I have to mention the great customer service which is hard to come by around here. My husband and I each got a slice. One of my boys got a burger. The menu was so extensive that we are going to have to come back to try out everything we saw that we wanted. Got an Italian beef to go. Wet. Hubby and I shared it later and it was excellent. The restaurant is very clean. Service is very good and friendly. We’ll definitely make this place a part of our restaurant rounds in the future. Good customer service is pretty important to me. They made us feel important that we came.

I’ve only gotten two things here in all the times I’ve visited: the oriental chicken salad and sweet potato fries. Maybe I need to broaden my horizon but I enjoy this salad so much. The dressing is so tasty and all the toppings make this salad a full meal. The fries are just my little treat of crunchy sweetness. I don’t really like the bread roll that’s served but I’m not a big«simple» carb gal anyways. Some like it though! Anyways this place is great for the food and the prices.

Came in for lunch and got an Italian Beef, hot and wet. It was flat out delicious! A good dose of heat and a just the right amount of gravy. The folks at the counter were super friendly to us, and all that came in to order. I had a bite of my wife’s cheese steak and I thought it was good too. I like this place and I’ll be back.

We are visiting anchorage from out of town and wanted pizza. Instead of delivery, we chose Johnny Chicagos because it was near to a wine store, and we wanted to pick up a bottle as well. When I ordered over the phone, the gentleman was super kind and easy to hear. We ordered and drove over to pick it up. The pizza was beautiful, really colorful and fresh veggies and no skimping on the toppings. They offered us plates to take back to the hotel and even held the door for us on our way out. I did add on some of their fresh cookies at checkout…, definitely recommend them. The wine store was closed and the kind owner, Sarge drew me a map to the nearest store where I could buy wine. He even walked me outside to explain the map. They absolutely went above the call of duty and made my 5 minute pick up incredibly memorable.

What a freaking disappointment this place was. Apart from the lovely man at the counter, the rest of our experience was less than impressive. The value of this place leaves a lot to be desired. I got the Italian beef since it got such rave reviews here. My sweetie got the Polish dog with all the fixins. And we also got a tamale to split and try. The Polish dog came out as a disgusting mess and for $ 8 it was a ginormous rip off. No joke, it looks exactly like the Polish dogs that you can get outside of Home Depot for 2.50. My Italian beef had virtually no meat in it I’m guessing it was about 4 ounces maybe 5, of meat. I do have to say the relish they put on that thing was amazing– it had all kinds of interesting vegetables in it which was super cool which did redeem the sandwich somewhat. But they burnt the FUCK out of my onions which really pissed me off. Who serves black onion? Gross!!! The tamale was nothing to write home about but at least it was cheap. But everything else felt like a wallet raping. If it hadn’t been for the kindly man at the counter I probably would have complained, but he really was lovely. The food also took a really long time to come and it sounded like chaos in the kitchen. There were only 2 other customers and yet we waited over 20 minutes for our simple sandwiches. Given the cafeteria-style ordering, the food should have come much more quickly. I’ll never go back to this place it’s a huge rip off and a huge disappointers. Unilocalers, what’s the deal?

I ordered a gorgonzola burger, since I don’t like onions I requested it without. Apparently if you don’t want onion you don’t get anything. It was a grey patty on a plain bun with a lump of gorgonzola in the middle, nothing else. For $ 9 I expected a little more. I could have gone to McDonald’s for less money and gotten a better product.

Okay this was our place to get a Beef and Chi-Deep Dish. I am from Chicago and grew up on this food so I was real happy to find the place over 2 yrs ago. I am also military so I could get a Beef from Chicago’s Best on Base. However, because on base did not serve pizza and did not have a manager onsite most days the store lacked leadership and consistency(that has changed with new owner) we would drive across town to Johnny Chicago’s. So this Friday we decided to get a pizza and beef and when I picked up my order I noticed the Pizza was burnt on the top. I notified the Staff and the manager(Sarge) walk over to see my pizza and said it looked that way because the cover had come off in the cooking process. Sarge did not realize he was talking to someone with over 30 years in the Food Service arena and I know what burnt pizza looks like. After I get home I can see the pizza is also burnt on the bottom of the pan and because it was over cooked it was also very dry. So now to the beef… because I grew up eating this sandwich the bread and meat will make or break this sandwich. Well someone had decided to change the bread so it is not the Chicago Style French Bread you would normally get for that sandwich. The second thing I notice is you cannot see the meat when you unwrap the sandwich. Which means the portion size has been changed and you have to open the sandwich to actually see the meat. Anyone that knows Italian Beef know that this is a problem. 3rd, I ask for extra peppers sweet and hot and they failed at that. Finally the meat should be shaved not regular sliced from a deli. This beef was tough because the meat was cut too thick and had cheap deli flavor like they got it from a grocery store. How much did it cost me for 2 very poor beef sandwiches and a burned deep dish and 2 large fries? $ 60 plus dollars. I will never go back. Sarge had a chance to fix my situation but he failed at customer service and customer relations. Why would a competent manager let a person pay that much money and walk out with a substandard burned product? Also, the original owner who put the standards in place is no longer onsite. It’s not hard to see with new employees, bad decisions designed to save money, could potentially nose-dive this place. The best beef at Chicago’s Best on-base. The manager/owner whom use to work at Johnny Chicago’s is doing a great and not changing the authenticity of the food or cutting corners to save money. I do not normally write reviews and this might be my 2nd or 3rd in my life. But this had to be heard. That place has potential to get back on top, but we will see. The sad thing is they have some of the best pizza in Anchorage when done right. Not just Chicago style but there pan pizza and New York Style is also really really good. Only problem is when you drive up or pass by you don’t even know they sale pizza.

Stopped in to check out this spot based on reviews from Unilocal. This is a cute little pizza joint on the corner. Greeting: We were nicely greeted when we arrived. Ordering: Our order went smoothly. Order taker made some great recommendations. We ordered a Chicago Deep Dish with lots of meat similar to a meat lover’s pizza. We were directed to the classic. We were warned that our order would be 15 minutes due to deep dish. We ordered some cheese fries. Timing: Our fries arrived quickly. Our pizza… not so much. After 40 minutes I went to the counter and asked if our pizza was ready. We were distracted by setting up a new laptop and didn’t notice the delay at first. I was told it was over cooked and they were starting over. I returned to my table and waited an additional 5 minutes. A young girl came to my table and almost inaudibly told me our pizza would be an additional 15 minutes. I mentioned to my son the strange interpretation of 15 minutes. Only to be corrected by a worker that our pizza would be 50 minutes. 1 hour and 5 minutes later we had our pizza. The manager graciously accepted my constructive criticism of the nice but timid workers. And the importance of speaking in a clear, true voice. Cheese fries — nothing special here. Store bought shoestring fries with liquid cheese. Pizza– ok… so the pizza was good. I’m partial to Chicago style pizza. But this was nothing similar to a meat lovers pizza. For meat, it only had sausage. And lots of veggies which I liked but my 12-year-old son was a little disappointed. The manager gave me a one half off coupon for our misunderstanding. I will probably give this place another try someday.

The service at this small restaurant was excellent! We walked in shortly before closing, but they still welcomed us with a smile and were happy to serve us, even offering extra food on the house. The food was average, but then it was right before closing. A shout out to Sarge, our friendly server!

Fantastic find here in Anchorage. The Sicilian pizza is just exquisite, the crust is crusty and buttery. The tomatoe sauce tastes of actual tomatoes and not the overly sweet purees that many places put on their pies. The place is large and very clean. Service was quick and on point. The menu has an entire section dedicated to our fellow vegetarians. I am looking forward to come back and try other menu items… specially their upside down pineapple cake.

We found this place by using a coupon from the Northern Lights coupon book and I’m so glad we did! This place was wonderful. We had Paul taking our order– he’s a very nice older gentleman!(He may even own the place– he knew a lot about all of the food) I ordered the Gyro with sweet fries and my husband ordered the Chicago Dog with bacon cheese fries. While ordering I was eyeing the single slices they had out and he asked which one looked good– I told him the Sicilian Pepperoni looked awesome. He brought out two pieces on the house, sat down real quick and explained how it was made! He told us the flour was imported from Italy and once they made the crust they let it raise for about 6 hours and then baked it. The sauce is also homemade, and cooks about 12 hours. I can’t remember everything he said was in it though. I’ve never really had someone sit down and explain the food I was about to eat so that alone impressed me! After we had our slices of pizza the food was ready. I would say it took no longer then 7 minutes. The gyro was good– not to greesy or messy. I got extra taziki on the side– it was yummy. The Chicago dog was gourmet and perfectly made,(not spicy) with lots of flavor. My husband also added the homemade jalapeño ketchup which was an tasty touch! To finish with Paul brought us over two samples of the Italian ice– one was lemon and the other was mango. I enjoyed both, the lemon was perfect because it wasn’t to sweet. The mango was fresh but no too mango ish and the ice was the perfect texture and smooth. We got a carrot cake to go and from what Paul told us it is from a bakery in Canada. A whole cake is 120 dollars but he sells them by the slice for about $ 5.00. From what he said a lot of people come in strictly for the cake. I’d have to say it’s 3 layers of awesome– moist but not to sweet! Overall this place is a 5 and we will be back soon

Pretty good food and excellent customer service. The Italian beef is spot on and the Maxwell style Polish was bomb dot com. The cheese fries weren’t anything special but they’ll totally take you back to the high school snack bar. It was my first time here and the staff were very friendly and helpful. They suggested some of their best selling menu items and even gave us a free sample of their Italian ice.

The food here is really good fast food! We’ve been here twice and had a pizza, bacon cheeseburger, philly cheese steak and bacon cheese fries. Their desserts are pretty good too. They can be a little pricey, but everything I’ve had here was super good! I would actually skip on the bacon cheese fires, probably the chilli fries are better but by husband ordered the bacon cheese ones on accident. The staff is really friendly and they are pretty quick. I would definitely come back, they are never too busy. I guess they are a chain, but I haven’t had them before and chains don’t seem to do to well anchorage. My husband also had the soup on a different occasion and said it was delicious!

Went here tonight for Mothers Day with my son. He had heard that the Chicago deep dish pizza was really good(from other Unilocal users) so we decided to give it a try. Now mind you I’ve never been to Chicago, and truthfully I had no idea what authentic deep dish pizza really even was, or how it was supposed to taste. I had to research it so I could fully comprehend what I was going to be ingesting. We had read that it takes 45 – 50 minutes for this pizza so we called to order it ahead of time(about 30 minutes out), and then just waited the other 10 – 15 minutes when we got there for it. I was surprised by how small, but deep this pizza was. The crust itself wasn’t too thick, and almost appeared to have a fried look to it. It was also sortof yellow in color(which I had read was characteristic of true Chicago deep dish pizza) overall it looked good, but more like a thick Pizza pie to me. I took one of the heavy slices and put it on my plate and began to dig in. I was instantly surprised, as the sauce was different, it reminded me of the fresh, homemade, chunky, spaghetti sauce, my mother used to make, the crust had sortof a buttery flavor but was dense. It was saucy, cheesy, crusty, meaty, and very yummy! I loved how it was kindof a loose, saucy mess, as you cut into it, but also just like a flavor explosion in your mouth, and so fresh tasting! Having never had this kind of pizza before I have to say I like it! Mind you its very filling though. I had one piece and that was all I could eat. It is a bit on the expensive side. About $ 30.00($ 29.98) for one pizza, but worth it. They also serve some amazing lemon ice too, refreshing and not overpowering! The man behind the counter was very nice as well. He wrapped up my additional pizza slice and explained to me exactly how to reheat it so it would taste just as delicious tomorrow. Everyone that waited on us was very kind, friendly, and polite. The customer service was truly some of the best I have gotten in a restaurant in a long time. I will definitely be going back.

This place rocks. You need to think ahead because of the driveway access being from southbound old Seward or westbound 36th. It is worth the traffic wrangling. I used to come in for the Chicago dog and lemon ice like he had on the truck. Now it is the pizza. This guy has it together. I ry to buy food for business meetings here and always get great feedback. The dining room is clean. Food is fresh. Prices are fair. Gonna keep coming back.

Man, I don’t know guys. Disclaimer: I’m not from Chicago and I’ve never been to Chicago. I have no clue what Chicago-style anything is supposed to task like. I got the Italian Beef sandwich, dipped, as everyone suggests. It was just OK. It just tasted like grease and white bread. I like both of those flavors, and maybe that’s the point, but it was just OK. Maybe I just don’t get Chicago food? It was also a bit on the pricey side, and still left me wanting for more food. I’ll have to check out the pizza here next time and see if I change my mind.

We came here because there was a Groupon for a whole 18″ pizza and two drinks for $ 14. We opted for the NY thin crust pizza with sausage, bell peppers(red and green), and ham. Living in NY for 4 years has taught me a thing or two about pizza and when something claims to be «NY pizza,» I’d like to be the person that says, «No! This is not.» However, this was some pretty freaking good NY pizza on this side of the coast! Thin slices, crispy dough, and an excellent pizza sauce! For two people, It was more than enough! I really wanted to eat all of it(BYMYSELF)! It is something that you have to eat while its hot, so if you plan on putting it in the fridge for the next day, it definitely won’t be as good! I highly recommend this place if you have not tried NY pizza or miss the taste of NY.

One hell of a good sandwich. It’s huge but you’ll insist on finishing it. The Italian beef sandwich is fully authentic, dipped just like you would find in Chicago’s best sandwich joints. Staff was friendly and made us feel welcome. I definitely recommend getting it dipped with peppers. It’s also a great value — especially for Anchorage.

Johnny Chicago’s recently added pizza to the menu. This native New Yorker is giving notice to all Alaskans… They make the best NY Pizza in this state! Absolutely authentic! The Chicago deep dish takes 45 mins to bake is worth the wait. The buttery thick crust is out of this world! I used to come here for the awesome dipped Italian sandwiches, but now this has become my favorite family pizza joint.
