The food is great. We’re particularly fond of the pork bulgogi. Our last time there, for the first time ever, we were treated rather shabbily by one of the older servers. Previously we had been served by the younger woman who always recognizes us and is very pleasant. So, we will go back but we will be cautious about it and hopefully be treated well.

I quit going here for a couple years because of a bad experience with the food & service standards. I stopped by last week out of curiosity and was pleasantly surprised the service had improved greatly. However the food is still mediocre at best. Don’t love or hate this place, it’s just okay.

I really like the food but I think you’re better off coming here with a group and eating family style. Most of the dishes are reasonable but some of them are a bit steep so if you split the bill it’s not so bad. I also think they give you way more banchan if you have more people, singles or couples only seem to get around 5 or so. My group got 15 of them and I rate Korean restaurants on the quality and number of sides I get. Everything tasted great but I thought it was all a bit mild and probably tempered for guests who don’t really like more authentic flavors. Not a bad thing, just kind of disappointing. The service was prompt and polite which is always nice, some of the other Korean restaurants have fairly abrupt wait staff. Not mean or anything, just«all business» and looking to turn tables. Overall, I will likely come back if I have enough people to come with me.

This is my go-to for Korean food I love everything about this place. The food is amazing, the prices are reasonable, and the best customer service I have had at any Korean restaurants here in Anchorage. I highly recommend going here, especially if you are new to the Korean food culture!

My favorite Korean Restaurant in Anchorage. Kim chee jijae is super good! I haven’t tried everything just yet, but you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu.

I came here with a few friends and I was super excited I love korean food. I wasn’t feeling very well so I ordered their chicken soup. It came out in a huge black steaming bowl and I was like wow. It came with a little side of salt and pepper and I think a side of hot sauce. I tried the broth first and I was super grossed out. It tasted bland, nothing no seasoning. Tasted like raw chicken just boiled in hot water. I asked the server If my chicken soup was suppose to taste like this and she added the salt and pepper into it and also broke open the whole chicken that was inside. It was stuff with veggies and so now my soup had salt and pepper and veggies. I mixed everything and tried it again. It still tasted like nasty raw chicken water. I was so grossed out I called the server back and she even tasted my soup and she said its suppose to taste like that … and she even said it was good. Your crazy if you think that was good. My friends even tried it as well so that I could make sure that it wasn’t just me who thought the soup was disgusting. They even were grossed out and said yeah thats not chicken soup. The taste was horrifying. First of all, chicken soup is not suppose to taste like you are still trying to prepare the freakn chicken and trying to cook off the feathers in the hot boiling water. The smell and the taste of the water still gets to me til this day. She never took it off our bill and she even boxed it up for me to take home and she obviously knew i didn’t even touch it. We left the restaurant and i dumped the food outside of the restaurant. Hell no Im not eating there ever again!

Best Korean in Anchorage and it is where the Koreans go. Very authentic and food is freshly prepared. The dessert teas are amazing!

The service is slow. The food took a while to get here. My friend said the soup needed flavor. My beef & vege dish had good flavor, but lacked beef. It got cooked out I imagine. Definitely won’t be coming back.

I wish I could give this place five stars, but the service is not quite there. The food is very good. I suggest you try the spicy pork bulgogi, and the simple rice cake soup. These dishes are amazing. The banchan served is always Interesting and pleasant. The service is middling. In general, you must be a little aggressive about asking for water, banchan, etc. sadly, it seems that authentic Korean restaurants just can’t get service down. Fortunately, their food makes up for it!

Staff was helpful and friendly. She gave me a free kimchi soondoobu on the house BC messed up the order. I would definitely recommend anyone here for premium Korean food.

As of 2015, this is the best place to get galbi in Anchorage. The portion is huge, the fat is minimal, and the flavor is great. I brought my Korean friend from California here for lunch; this was his favorite place in town to eat. The other dish that I love to get here is the chicken ginseng soup(samgyetang) that I first tried on the island of Jeju in Korea. For around $ 22, you are presented with an entire small chicken in broth. The soup is consumed by peeling the meat off the chicken, which you can then transfer to a spoon, and eat with rice and broth. A small dish of salt is provided for you to add flavor to each mouthful. The prices aren’t cheap, but that’s Anchorage. If you love these dishes, then this is the place to be.

I tried this place twice. First time I was a little miffed because I wasn’t given the same kind or quality of Banchan as the other folks being served. I ordered the Bibimbap and it wasn’t bad. Simple, and certainly not the best I’ve had, but not bad. My server was polite so I didn’t make too much out of it. I went again about a month later, just to see if it was a fluke with the Banchan and again the same thing. Table next to me was loaded with aobut 15 different kinds that all looked great. I got 5 I think, with like broccoli, kimchee, and some others that really were pretty gross. This time my waitress was not as attentive, in fact I hardly saw her after she gave me my food, and I had to wait a long time for her to come back so I could get the bill and leave. I won’t be going back, there are plenty of other places that are much better, and when they serve me the cheap stuff that is not the same as everyone else, I’m just done. I have two other reviews for Korean restaurants in Anchorage. Both are much better then this place, and don’t skimp on the Banchan or give you the crap stuff!

This is one of my two go-to Korean takeout places in Anchorage. I really like the food, the service, and the prices. What you need to know about me in terms of Korean: I’m adventurous in that I will try anything, but I am boring because I almost always get BiBimBap(or the DolSot/stone pot version for sit in). I crave it, like it’s some kind of essential mineral that I need to survive. So no matter how much I might intend to try something new, when ordering time comes, it’s mostly back to the Bap. Thus, when I assess Korean places, I do so mainly on this one dish. Occasionally, I’ll throw a Bulgogi in there, and my hubby always gets spicy pork Bulgogi(and K.G. Has one of his faves). Now, Korean Garden is one of two places in Anchorage where I really like the BiBimBap, of those I have tried(the other being Hometown on Minnesota). The vegetables are the perfect mix of flavors(the only place that uses iceberg in it, to good effect), and they are cooked but still fresh and semi-crunchy. The meat is nicely seasoned. The rice perfectly sticky. The egg cooked right – easy enough to have the yolk run but not undercooked. Theirs is a staple comfort food for me. Their Ban Chan in always a delightful accompaniment. It varies, but it is always fresh and good. I don’t care for the soup that they serve with it, but not because it’s poorly made. Just not my taste. Whenever I eat in there, the service is enjoyable. They remember me and are prompt on serving. And I adore the cinnamon digestif tea they serve at the end. The first time I had it, I was surprised by it, how soothing it tasted. Perfect end to a nice meal.

The fact that Korean Garden doesn’t have any check-in regulars shows that it’s not very popular among Unilocalers, or that it may be too expensive for the quality of food. Korean Garden has plenty to compete with in town when it comes to Anchorage. I would just as soon go to Hometown or Tofu House on International before coming back here. The service is left to be desired, tip: be ready with your order the first time they show up, or you’ll starve. Ok, that might be a bit of an exaggeration, but don’t expect the server to check up on you very often. The food is actually decent, but I feel a disparity between the prices and lack of service, the food does not make up for it. I asked if they have jjajangmyeon, and they said«no, that’s Chinese food.» I said, I know it’s Chinese, but there’s also Korean style jjajangmyeon. She just looked at me like I didn’t know what I was talking about… So I if you go to other Korean restaurant a bit often, and you want something to remind you how good that food is, then come here, and you will be reassured.

The worst Korean food I’ve ever had. What a disappointment. My soon sundubu had this weird tomatoe-y flavor like Chef Boyardee. It was so bad. And my honey ordered the bulgogi and japchae soup and it literally tasted like it had a half cup of sugar in the sauce. It was INEDIBLE. Absolutely atrocious. And for the thing that pissed me off the most, the banchan. They gave us BULLSHIT banchan. Our Korean friends at the table next to us were given totally different, delicious looking banchan. We got miniscule servings of different, mostly terrible banchan. And we were never offered refills. i despise restaurants that treat people of different ethnicities preferentially. NEVER again will Korean Garden get my business. The food is terrible and they way they do business is SHAMEFUL.

Surprise! There is authentic Korean food in Anchorage. Had the Sul rong tang(I know that’s probably not the correct spelling) and was pleasantly surprised that the broth was spot on, and was as good as other Korean restaurants in Boston and New York. Ban chan was also tasty.

There’s a fairly large amount of Korean restaurants around town, but what sets Korean Garden apart from the rest is the great service and pleasant dining atmosphere. When you eat here, you feel as if the owners actually appreciate your business – no matter what race you are. It’s obvious to me that some restaurants are quick to show favoritism or cater towards people of the same race. From what I’ve seen, the staff here is no less accommodating towards non-Koreans. The only downside is that there’s only one server and you may have to flag her down occasionally. That being said, the food here is pretty awesome by my standards. The banchan is fresh and I’ve enjoyed every entrée I’ve ordered. Korean BBQ is generally overpriced no matter where you go, so I typically stick with soups or stews. A real treat would happen to be the pork belly, which involves a portable stove being delivered to your table so that you can cook the meat yourself. Granted, this isn’t the only restaurant that does this, but Korean Garden is definitely my first choice to enjoy this and other fantastic Korean dishes.

Bim bi bap, Jeon, Bulgogi, and Kalbi was all delicious and amazing. I recommend all of that. This was a surprising find in Anchorage because I wasn’t impressed with most of the food here. But Korean Garden was a pleasant surprise. If you are in the mood for Korean of just some quality Asian food, I would head here asap! The service was nice too which honestly hasn’t been the case at a lot of Korean places I have been all over the country. So thanks Korean Garden!
