Stopped in last Friday for lunch. The place wasn’t crowded, but I think they might be busy with call-in/delivery service during that time frame. We got there around 1130 and were promptly seated and had our orders(2) taken about 10 minutes later. My chicken parmesan and my co-worker’s medium pizza hit the table about 25 minutes later. Both were pretty good. If you have only one hour for lunch call it in. If you’re not in a hurry this is a pretty good place with plenty of parking at the rear of the building.

I went here earlier today for a lunch with my parents before they leave town for vacation. We were greeted warmly by one of the servers and seated at a spacious corner booth. Normally, I try to stay positive when a couple of things don’t go right but for some reason it didn’t work out today. We ordered appetizers of feta cheese and Greek Kalamata olives. These were absolutely delicious and they went pretty quick. For our entrees, we placed two orders of moussaka and an order of ravioli with Italian sausage. A basket of garlic bread came with our appetizers and it was delicious with the olive oil, butter, oregano mix that was spread on top. However, our server came back and told us that there was no moussaka available. I found it odd because it was listed on their lunch menu and I know that certain items can’t be ordered if they are served for dinner. So I went with the Mediterranean spaghetti which is basically the Greek style with tomato sauce and mozzarella added in addition to the feta cheese and fresh garlic. My mother decided to go on the waitress’s suggestion of eggplant parmesan. The meals came shortly after we finished our appetizers. My mother enjoyed the eggplant parmesan and my stepdad enjoyed his sausage ravioli. I was a little disappointed with my dish. Rather than arriving on a large plate like the other two dishes, mine was condensed down into an oval-shaped serving bowl which roughly cut the portion in half when comparing it to the other dishes. It was good, but not as good as the Greek spaghetti I had at Little Italy earlier this week. After we finished our entrees, my parents were already full, but I opted to order dessert. I ordered Galaktoboureko which is Pizza Olympia’s version of Ekmek from Little Italy which is a cinnamon-marinated bread topped with vanilla pudding, toasted almonds, whipped cream, and shredded cinnamon. Again, the waitress came back and said they did not have this available and that the cook was preparing a tray of baklava. I was disappointed but I decided to try the baklava with some Greek coffee. The Greek coffee was outstanding, but Little Italy had the better dessert. In spite of all this, my parents enjoyed their meal and our server and the owner were very friendly and even chatted with us for a little bit. I believe in giving a place a second chance if things didn’t turn out the way it was supposed to. Perhaps I’ll come back for dinner time. Maybe then, all the dishes on the menu will be readily available to order.

Went here the other night and probably received some of the best service we’ve ever gotten in any restaurant. It turns out, the lady taking care of our table was one of the owners, lol. I met my husband in a restaurant very similar to this one so our decision to try this place was met with equal enthusiasm. We probably got there about two hours before closing, and the place was decently busy, but not packed or claustrophobic in any way. Originally, we had planned to get our food as take out but the lady(Georgia is her name) was so sweet to us when we got there we decided to eat in! My husband is always interested in finding good pizza, and since we moved up here, he had yet to really try any of the pizza places in town. This place was a great first choice! Ratings: MamaMia Pizza: The name says it all. He SCARFED it! Told me it was one of the best pizzas he’s had on the west coast…10/10. Athena Pizza: I got this without the feta and gotta admit it was pretty damn good considering I am not a pizza person by any means. Toppings and crust all tasted very fresh! 9⁄10. The Calmata olives made it really pop. Greek Spaghetti: Perhaps the most garlicky spaghetti I’ve ever tasted. It had a very interesting combination of flavors mostly dominated by garlic and cinnamon: 8⁄10. It was vey good, but not something I can eat very often. Garlic Bread: Outstanding. Some of the best garlic bread I’ve had in any restaurant… ever. They served it with an olive oil/tzatziki mix I’ve never seen before. Excellent flavor combinations once again. 10⁄10 Ambience: Nice. The lady who took care of us was extremely helpful and accommodating in her efforts to find us a table we’d really enjoy. She did exactly that! 10⁄10. Service: As already mentioned, we were treated extremely well… like they had known us a long time or something despite that it was our first time there. 12⁄10. We’ll be back for sure!

I’m not sure how they can use the name PIZZA Olympia when their pizza skills are definitely lacking. I’ve been here once and that was too many times for me. With how disgusting the food is, I’m not sure why I see people going there.

This is hands down our favorite restaurant. Not only are the prices great but the staff is wonderful. The same family has been operating in the same location since I was a kid. The menu is just the right size and populated with Greek and Italian dishes. I usually always go with Greek but the Italian food is just as good. Olympia cooks their food all from scratch and everything is fresh. The ambiance is wonderful and Georgia and her staff are very friendly and attentive. If you are unsure about what to order they will ask probing questions and make recommendations which is how we discovered the Pastitchio, my girlfriend’s new favorite dish. We go at least once a week and I’ve never had a dish that I didn’t enjoy. If I could give more stars, I would! Highly recommended! Don’t forget to try the baklava for desert!

I come to Anchorage on business trips quite frequently, I ALWAYS enjoyed my meals at Pizza Olympia and decided to invite my guests to join me! I must admit, I expected consistency, I did not expect this last time to be so atrocious and it wasn’t even that crowded, we arrived at 6 p.m., waited 35 minutes for a menu, another 28 minutes for our order to be taken. We watched other people be seated, order, food brought to them, they ate, payed and left while we still sat waiting for our order. INCREDIBLY Slooooowwwwww service!!! Our food FINALLY arrived at 8:16 pm, the food was HORRIBLE!!! The Lamb in my Gyro was old, greasy and incredibly crispy(like over-cooked bacon), totally in-edible. Was so embarrassed, I was overly anxious to pay the check and just leave, but our waitress(who appeared to be VERY forgetful elderly person, whom I was also informed was the«matriarch» of the restaurant), insisted on extending my embarrassment by insisting that our meal can be corrected,(after another 22 minute wait) it could NOT be made better, it was only made worse, she slapped on more cooked lamb, but without the tzatziki, so it really wasn’t the same, so sad, I thanked her, but not wanting any further embarrassment, I graciously accepted her«hugs», but disposed of their«to-go box» in their parking lot and went to the«Lucky Wishbone» to get a REAL edible meal, and it was packed at the Wishbone, always a good indication!!! I have ALWAYS enjoyed Greek food, but after this incident, Greek dining will NEVER be the same again for me. I cannot eat another gyro or pita without recalling this bad dining incident. This surprises me GREATLY as I ALWAYS enjoyed the meals and service at Pizza Olympia, but the INCREDIBLY slow service, forgetful elderly waitress, poor overly cooked lamb, prices WAYTOOHIGH… it really wasn’t worth the $ 72.00 I payed!!!(plus+ tip!) So sad to say that this incident has ruined Greek dining at the Pizza Olympia Restaurant in Anchorage Alaska for me, nor will I ever recommend it to ANYONE who inquires about a good Greek dining experience in Anchorage, I WILL recommend them to, «Pita’s in Paradise» on Maui Hawaii tho’, for EXCELLENT«CONSISTENT» Greek Dining!!! Yikes! I went here for the first time this week and tried the gyro. Instead of a traditional gyro, the gyro was served on focaccia style bread with bland tzatziki and one sliver of onion and tomato. It was flavorless to say the least — not to mention the hair I found in it. Would not recommend and will not be going back. Oh, and it took almost 1.5 hours to get our food, eat and pay. We were one of two tables in the restaurant. Sloooow service.

Slow service and terrible food with high prices. I’m not sure how this place has higher reviews than one star.

Went here for my birthday. Have lived in Anchorage for years and years and always heard of this place but never visited it. I had heard rave reviews for their Gyro’s and just wanted to try one and check it out. First let me say they are enormous, and made on their own special bread rather then the traditional pita bread. I have to say they were delicious! Best Gyro I’ve ever had! The bread was crispy and so yummy, the lamb was seasoned just right, and the Tzatziki sauce was wonderful. Sometimes its just too sour or off, but theirs was just right. They gave me a bowl of spumoni ice cream with a sparkler for my birthday too! Spumoni ice cream was always my dads favorite and I haven’t had«real, authentic» tasting spumoni since I was a young child. It was very good and brought back a lot of memories for me. We will definitely be going back again and trying some of the other things on the menu for sure!

the best gyros I’ve ever had, and their baklava was delicious as well. I think ive gone here with my boyfriend about 2 or 3 times now, the first waitress we got when he first brought me here gave off a weird snobby vibe but the food made up for it, and every time so far after the first experience we’ve gotten who I believe to be the owner(an older lady) who gives tons of big nice hugs haha :]

Pizza Olympia has been around for ages. It’s right across the street from REI and I would see it whenever I was in the area. For my birthday, I was in need of something that would appease the masses and still appeal to me. After my initial restaurant was closed the day I thought of Pizza Olympia. I made the reservation. The lady I spoke to was seriously Greek, and so sweet. We had a group of six which they easily accommodated. There is parking in front and in the rear. If you look head on, it looks like there’s no parking, but just go around the side if its busy. From the time we entered, we were seriously being catered to. The hard part was that I had to act like a translator for my family because of the heavy Greek accent. Why do I understand? I have no clue, but it works. I go the baked ravioli which was great. My mom got the greek lasagne, which she raved about. My dad got the greek steak which had whole cloves of garlic through it(yeah, he was happy!), and seriously I forgot what everyone else had. My dad asked for horseradish, which they didn’t understand what he was asking for. The lovely lady came up with three different sauces to see if anything would suffice for him. We have never had anybody go so out of their way to make sure that he was satisfied. Even without the horseradish, he was good to go. For dessert, they brought out spumoni with a sparkler for me, which was soo good! And then they brought out some seriously good baklava, which is my husbands favorite dessert. I know that the owners of this restaurant help with the Greek festival here in town, and I do not know if they make the baklava for the festival, but this was even better. The lady that I spoke to for our reservation came by our table a couple of times and made sure that everything was perfect. In a whole, this family made me question why I stopped coming to this place. So good food, great service, good atmosphere. Not the place to go if you need to be on a strict diet, but maybe your day off for the week. Did I mention it was worth it? Oh yeah!

I completely forgot to write about this restaurant when I visited it a few months back. Unfortunately, if I could give it zero stars, I would. I’ve been here a few times in the past & it’s been pretty good, it’s just gone way downhill & kinda reminds me of a restaurant trying to hold onto it’s former glory. For starters, the place is pretty dirty & looks like it’s barely able to keep itself up anymore. It could definitely use a good deep clean & maybe a dusting? I’m all about hole in the wall joints, but they key would be good food. Let’s start from the beginning… a group of us went & were immediately seated & we immediately ordered 2 bottles of wine & an appetizer from a friendly, older male server(take note of server, you’ll understand in a sec). The wine came, he poured, we drank, drank some more & ordered a bunch of entrees(I think we were 3 or 4).Sometime after ordering our meals, an older women(the original owner perhaps?) came over & asked us what we would be having for dinner… again. Right before our salads came, I noticed our original server standing in the kitchen/waitstaff area looking at our table, shaking his head, & putting his jacket on(he left shortly afterwards, I assume, since I no longer saw him). When our salads arrived, it was a new server. Our entrees arrived but it was the older woman who served them this time(I seriously thought she might lose a few plates). I feel bad for saying this, because she really was just a sweet old woman, but she continued to show up at our table every 10 minutes to see if everything was all right(when does it stop being cute & start being annoying?) So, then came the food. I will say this, the other 2 guys I was there with enjoyed their entrees. I, however, took two bites & was done. I had the calamari pasta entrée. Maybe I was expecting something entirely different, but it literally was a handful of heavily salted fried calamari(ya know, the appetizer kind) on a plate with overcooked spaghetti & a side of what tasted like canned marinara sauce(Paul Newman’s is way better). My response, «Is this Greek?». By the time we were done, we had about 3 different servers attending to us, not one of them being the original dude(1.the older possibly drunk woman, 2. possibly the daughter of the family, &3. another random server). It was then that I found out from the non-related-to-the-restaurant-server that the older woman/owner had decided to take over our table because she saw us ordering a bunch of wine & food. Honestly, sucks for the male server. He got screwed & he knew it. I would’ve been pissed to.

Difficult to rate, but to summarize: Pretty good food(some was very good) but overshadowed by inaccurate and incredibly SLOW service. I just took a small group(seven total) to lunch as a going away gift for a coworker and even though I called ahead and the table was ready for us when we arrived(and no one was in the restaurant besides us) it took nearly ANHOUR to actually get our food after ordering. By then we needed it packed immediately to go. We were then informed by the presumed owner(an older European sounding woman) that everything is made from scratch so next time we should order ahead, but that she appreciates our business. Puzzled as to why the restaurant offers sit-down service with no sort of disclaimer about the length of time you should expect to wait, we left with our hastily packaged to-go bag and assorted wrapped gyros. When we returned to the office to then eat at our desks we discovered that the order was inaccurate and a couple people had to eat something completely different than what was ordered. For what it’s worth, the gyro is excellent but probably not worth the wait. Instead of enjoying a fun goodbye lunch with our friend we were forced to sit hungrily and anxiously before rushing out the door with a weird, «it’s your fault for not knowing better» attitude from the owner. Won’t go back.

We come here and every time before we leave we get a hug from them. It’s a comfortable environment and they have the best house dressing for salad. Anything you get here will taste authentic and Greek.

I STRUGGLE with giving these guys a 3. I want to give them a 2.5. The food is good. It’s higher quality than a lot of other pizzerias and they are about the only«Greek» styled joint in town besides Little Italy. But I sit here waiting for a delivery order that was supposed to be here an hour ago. ANHOURAGO. And it wasn’t complicated — it was a Greek salad for Ch+*$t’s sake. I also didn’t want to bring it up, but the last time I ordered a gyro from them, I bit into a plastic«ring». The thing that comes off any plastic bottle when it’s newly opened. I didn’t want to go there… but I just did. The truth is, I set the plastic aside and ate the gyro anyway. I just wish these guys upped the ante a few notches. I want to see them stick around, but my confidence is shaken.

I ate here for the first time last night with a friend of mine and we had a lovely experience. The food was good and I will be back to try more. I would recommend this place to my friends to check out. They have a patio that was too shady last night to be comfortable but nice and sunny at lunch I bet. The service was great. The women who took care of us was one of the owners and she was very friendly and helpful. She made several recommendations which were delicious. I had the Moussaka and it wasn’t the best I’ve had but it was tasty all the same. My friend had grilled meat on a skewer and it was also tasty. Go try it I think you’ll be pleased.

The first two times I ate at Pizza Olympia it was okay. I enjoyed sitting in the quiet booths and I didn’t mind the slower service because we were not in any hurry. The food was not stand-out exceptional, but it was satisfactory. The third time, however, I took a friend from out-of-town, and it was a disaster. After ordering, our dinner did not arrive for at least 45 minutes! The steak I ordered was terrible, with large chunks of tough gristle. My friend’s dinner was average; not worth such a long wait. For the price, to me it isn’t worth the risk of another meal like that so I’ve never returned.

Best Greek in anchorage. A nice family restaurant but they should consider hiring some help. Wait staff is friendly but more wait staff would enhance the experience. Lunch sandwiches are awesome.

The Greek Salad is excellent & made for two — so far the best salad that I have had in Anchorage. We also split a Gyro which was presented calzone style rather than in pita bread. I must say it was quite good and not as messy as the traditional style. They also brought out garlic bread that was crispy-not soggy and very tasty! At the conclusion of our meal, they gave us their traditional«Christmas Bread.» They make over 3000 loaves of their bread and give it to their customers from Thanksgiving through New Years. It was a very nice touch. I am very surprised that this place wasn’t packed during lunch, but I believe it’s because people think that this is just a pizza joint. I’m coming back soon and will review the pizza as I saw two awards for«Best Pizza» in Anchorage.
