Very tasty wings! And thank goodness they are not swimming in grease unlike some other wing places in town. And they deliver which is great because the only other delivery options are pizza and Mexican on Southside.

Good for what it offers. Wings. Like the dry approach to Inferno. I don’t order much else here. My kid likes the cheese burgers.

We enjoyed ours! It was a Friday night in and we decided to give Winkys a shot(my first time). I ordered the mild chicken wings and REALLY enjoyed them! …they were well-seasoned in addition having a mild ‘kick’. My SO had the shrimp basket(tried and true) the shrimps were cooked properly and the crusty was hot, flaky and fresh! Our meal was delivered in no time and we were SUPER pleased for what it was — Friday night delivery! We’ll be back!

I was driving down Old Seward on the way home after studying for a few hours and I decided to stop here on a whim. The place is located in a small strip mall next to a bank and the Texas Roadhouse. Winky’s has a small area in the front with a stool and a couple of old-school arcade games as well as some TVs to keep you busy while you wait for your order. The atmosphere and look of the place may look ordinary and unassuming, but like I’ve stated in previous reviews of Tommy’s Burger Stop and AJ’s Ribs, don’t let the appearance fool you. Winky’s Wings is the first wing place I’ve come across in Anchorage that definitely knows how to make garlic parmesan wings the right way. I ordered a 10 pc. extra crispy with celery and extra blue cheese and when I tried them for the first time, I became hooked. The wings were perfectly crisp without the meat being dry and they did an outstanding job of chopping the garlic and frying it into the wings along with the parmesan. This is how garlic wings are supposed to be made not with the garlic being sprinkled on top after frying them in hot sauce. Celery was fresh and the blue cheese was a delicious complement for the wings. It is a good idea to call ahead when ordering for carry-out as the wait may be a while with delivery orders getting higher priority. In addition to the wings, they have a varied menu of burgers, Cajun dishes, seafood, sandwiches, and salads. Some of the other wing flavors that I intend to try out next time are the Winky’s original style, Lemon Pepper, and Southern Fried. Other noteworthy items on their menu that caught my attention as well are the Boss Hog Burger(double bacon, ham, fried egg, American, Swiss, mayo and lettuce for those who want to throw caution to the wind in regards to cholesterol), the Big John Burger(ham, hotlinks, bacon, sautéed onions, mushrooms, jalapenos, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, and pickles), the Winky Bacon Cheese Dog(all beef hotdog wrapped in bacon, deep fried, and topped with cheese sauce… definitely a guilty pleasure), the Catfish Platter(three deep-fried fillets with fries, coleslaw and a side of hot sauce… as a former resident of North Carolina, I sorely miss down-home Southern cooking and I look forward to trying this out), and Winky’s Gumbo(traditional dark roux made with trinity, chicken, and sausage… another winner). Service here is friendly and a hidden low-key gem with great food here in town with another good reason to support locally-owned businesses against major national chains. This will definitely be another welcome option for wings during football season or if I feel homesick for Southern cuisine.

This was our favorite wing place. Sadly the last 3 times we have ordered from here our order was completely wrong. Giving the wrong wings, not giving the correct amount(ordered 20 got 10) ect. And the inferno tasted no different than the hot wings. Hopefully it will get back to the quality that it was when we loved it so much.

We just got done with a delivery from Winkys. We had the buffalo wings, Catfish and the Loco Moco. It was very very good! I will definitely eat at Winkys again. The catfish was great and the Loco Moco was better than i expected with awesome brown gravy. To tell the truth I ordered the catfish just in case I didn’t like the Loco Moco and needless to say I am having catfish for lunch tomorrow! The wife rated the wings at a eight out of ten on the flavor scale! That’s great on her scale!!!

Absolutely terrible customer service. Ordered wings for the first time. Pick up. Ordered at 720pm, was told it would be about 40 – 45 minutes, which I thought was a long time for a «Togo wing order» however, thought, well they must be good. Showed up at 8pm ready to pay and wait 5 minutes. Was told, «it’ll be 20 – 25 minutes» are you kidding? That would be over an hour for a PICKUPORDER! I called to talk to a manager, and they asked my name, and why I wanted to talk to a manager. I said«customer service issue» and they put me on hold. Then they came back to ask for my name(again) and a phone number for a manager to call me back. What a joke. Sorry winkys, but you have disappointed me to the point of not even wanting to give you business or try your wings. It’s a shame when places do this. Especially somewhere as small as Anchorage. I’m surprised they are still in business.

Another place to call ahead! We ordered the western burger, fried zucchini and 10 wings. They said it would be 25 minutes, so we took a walk around the shopping center next door. They do not have any seating, except maybe 2 folding chairs and 2 arcade games inside. It’s take out only, but the food is pretty good. My burger was good, similar to Carl’s jr but way more fresh, obviously! The fired zucchini was a big order, but perfectly cooked. It was a little much for 2 people. The wings were a little on the small side, but maybe they’re the hormone free chickens? I’ll probably try some of their other stuff, but it’s not a priority.

Somedays you just want wings. Friday 8 May was that day. I have tried most wing places around town and I’m usually pretty easy to please. Make ‘em hot and tasty and I’m happy. Winky’s wings did just that. I opted for the 10 peice Hot, Mac and Cheese wedges and chicken nugget basket $ 27. The nuggets and mac cheese were for my 7 yr son. He loved his chicken nuggets, but was unsure about the wedges. He wanted a more traditional mac and cheese. His mother thought they were sinfully good. Now the wings. I wasn’t sure when I ordered whether I should get hot or the inferno. I settled on hot and was glad I did. They were hot enough without being too hot. At some places the hotter the food the worse it tastes. Winkys hot was good flavor and good burn. One more item of note was the fact that Winkys cooked the wings until almost burnt. Cripsy and dried out. I like this. Some people might not.

The only reason I’m giving this place 4 stars is because they don’t have dine-in service. Otherwise, the food I had was awesome and exactly what I was craving(I got the 10-piece hot buffalo wings and shared loaded tater tots with my husband). I was craving wings, so my husband and I just dropped in after reading about Winky’s online. I was a little surprised, and slightly disappointed, when I read the sign indicating that the food was available via take-out or delivery, as I was really looking forward to sitting down somewhere and enjoying the experience. Fortunately, this did not detour us from going in. During our 20-minute wait(where I could see the staff cooking our FRESH food), we chatted with the owner who is very friendly, personable, and accommodating. I ended up enjoying the experience despite my initial disappointment! The restaurant has a lot more to offer than just wings, and I am excited to try some of their other menu items. I will definitely be going back – or at least I’ll be having them deliver something right to my front door.

I have ordered from this place a couple of times. The wings are meh, THEPHILLYCHEESESTEAK was the worst thing that has happened to me. A coworker let me try one of her wings and I had instant regret. The Philly is not traditional and has some disgusting orange sauce on top– Don’t go. Keep looking, you’re not that hungry.

Superb buffalo wings every time! We order here when we want wings, and they never disappoint. Our most recent order was on Thanksgiving eve and the medium buffalo we got was slightly hotter than usual, but was still yummy.

Great wings! Packages great for take out too. There are lots of sauce choices and the other menu items have got to be just as good.

The five star rating is for the wings, which are seriously the best in Anchorage. The sides range from so-so to pretty good. Their estimated wait times can sometimes be off — especially durning football season — but definitely worth the wait. Don’t be fooled by the small location and questionable décor; this is a take out/delivery joint, not a BWW. I’ve been a loyal Winky’s fan for years — if your are looking for flavorful wings cooked to perfection, this is your place.

I’ve eaten at Winky’s twice now. For a little background, Winky’s is sort of a hole-in-the-wall place and it’s kind of a dump inside. That’s not meant to be insulting — it’s basically a no-frills take out joint. The inside has a VERY tiny counter area where you can order your food and stand around and wait for it. It has sort of an industrial vibe to it and doesn’t look especially clean or inviting. One thing worth noting — my wife always looks for health inspections when she walks in a restaurant and she said she didn’t see one. I looked them up on the Muni site and they have had a number of critical violations. On to the food… The first time I ate there was back when they first opened. I ordered a cheesesteak. It was a good size and well-made. The problem was the seasoning. Whoever cooked the meat absolutely doused it with salt to the point it was inedible. At the time, I chalked it up to a new store and staff but I haven’t really felt the urge to go back and try them again since. I also remember it taking a really long time to get my cheesesteak, despite there not being any other customers — more on this in a minute. Last weekend we decided to stop by and get wings for the Superbowl. I had read the ADN article on their wings and we decided to do our own wing tasting. Because it’s Anchorage, we ordered and picked up the wings on Saturday. I called in an order consisting of mild Buffalo wings and garlic-parmesan wings and was told it would take 30 minutes. We got there about 25 minutes after placing the order. As I said, we were getting wings from several places. After placing the order, we had time to stop by Fred Meyer AND to order, stop and pick up an order of wings from Sparta Pizza, before heading over to Winky’s, where I figured the wings would be ready by the time we got there. Silly me. I should have known there would be a problem by the number or people standing outside and inside at the counter. Not only were the wings not ready 25 minutes after placing the order(which I had been told would be ready in 30 mins.) — my wings hadn’t even been dropped in the fryer. Long story short, my wings took nearly an hour from the time I placed the order until the time I got them. Again, keep in mind this was on Saturday — not Superbowl Sunday. On the brighter side, I met some really nice people and we chatted while we stood around waiting on our food. Most had been there much longer than I had. For two of them, it was their first time eating there and from their comments, it would be their last because of the excessive wait. During this time, we watched the girl at the register do her hair, her makeup, talk with friends on the phone and generally do everything EXCEPT help customers. Also — I’m not sure if this is normal or not — but there were two little kids(4−6ish?) running around playing and another small boy(10−12ish?) sitting at the counter playing video games. I assume they were the kids of people working there. By the time we left, she was telling people it was an hour wait on food and they would not be taking any more orders for Sunday. So how was the food? It was a mixed bag. The garlic-parm wings were delicious. They were drenched in butter, huge chunks of roasted garlic and tons of gooey cheese so how could they be bad? The only downside was that we ate some Saturday and reheated some on Sunday. Because they were so drenched in butter, the Sunday wings didn’t reheat well at all and turned into a soggy mess. But Saturday, freshly cooked, they were very good. The mild Buffalo wings are a different story. We tried wings from multiple places and I will give Winky’s kudos for having the juiciest, most flavorful wings we tried. HOWEVER, we ordered the wings mild and these were SCORCHING hot. I don’t know whether they screwed the order up or not but if those wings were meant to be mild, I would hate to try any hotter than what I received. They reheated well the next day and were nicely crispy, but unfortunately the heat only intensified overnight. So would I go back? Probably not. In my two trips, 2 of the 3 items were poorly/incorrectly prepared and the service was inattentive and abysmally slow. Other people seem to be fans so maybe it’s worth a trip to see for yourself if you can find something on the menu you like. The prices and portions are good, but the preparation is just too inconsistent for my taste.

This review is for a delivery order, so my expectations for the quality of the food were adjusted(especially since it came from across town). It took about 1.5 hours from their location to East Anchorage. I ordered 20 piece wings in original/hot. I asked if they could do 5 in garlic Parmesan, but they only do flavors by orders of 10 pieces. The chicken was done in a dry rub style and had a Cajun spice flavor. They held up ok during delivery, but weren’t as crisp as I believe they’re supposed to be and the flavor was just ok. I originally ordered gumbo, but they ran out so I ordered jambalaya instead. I really wish they packed the rice on the side instead of everything in one box since the dish wasn’t going to be served right away. By the time we got it, the rice soaked everything up and was mushy. The flavor was ok, the heat level was good. I was expecting bigger chunks of sausage and chicken, so the portion would have been skimpy if I didn’t order it with shrimp(additional $). Tons of rice though. There was also a small loaf or hoagie roll type thing of garlic bread that was unremarkable. I’m not sure what dish it was supposed to go along with. We probably won’t be ordering delivery from here again, but may try it again if we’re ever in the area.

Winky wings is great! You can check out my previous review of them but unfortunately it was filtered! I guess it seemed to good to be true! The food is great and tastes fresh! Lots of flavor and the burgers are juicy. I order a gyro everytime I order because they know how to make it great. If you’re hungry and need something tasty and inexpensive I really recommend this place here. Oh and their delivery range is fairly restrictive to the area around them. They won’t go across town!
