Typical lunch spot. Sushi lunchbox is perfect price and amount of food. Staff is attentive when«quick lunch» needs to be had.

It was good sushi with great price! You can easily get a variety of things to eat for reasonable prices. The ambience is great as well. Def worth trying out if you’re in the area. The only reason its not a 5⁄5 is due to a love of sushi places back home in CA.

This is our go to sushi place when we are feeling casual or wanting a quick bite/carry out. You cannot beat their lunch special, and they offer it on Saturdays which is amazing! Great sushi, yummy soups, good service.

My husband and I love this place. The sushi is always fresh and good, great Udon soup, and the Mochi dessert is also good. The best part of this restaurant is the staff. You are always greeted loudly and warmly by at least four people shouting«hello! Welcome!» One time, I had a terrible day at work and we came here for dinner, and our server shouted, «yay!» when she saw us. It made my day. The prices are also reasonable. For a typical sushi roll, the cost is around $ 5 – 6. The fancier rolls start at $ 10, but it’s still not too overpriced. My husband orders the hot sake, which is also affordable. We always have a great experience here. We have never been disappointed. This is our local go-to sushi place! Highly recommend.

Came here for some late night sushi while visiting family in MD. Got the gyoza, Cali roll, spicy tuna, Rock n’ roll and green dragon. The Gyoza was good, but the sushi was average. Definitely prefer our Cali spot(Love Boat). Service was great. Probably wouldn’t return. There’s a place in downtown Annapolis that we liked more too.

Great sushi and perfect lunch spot. Quick and delicious. Wonderful, friendly service. We did have trouble locating it with the Waze app so be aware until that gets cleared up but hey, that’s why Google maps is still around right? They liked my t-shirt so that totally makes up for it too haha. Small place but reasonably priced and nice casual décor.

This sushi is SOOOOO good. My son and I came in for dinner. A little after rush hour traffic, so of course there’s the Friday nite dinner rush. We had a tight table but our waitress was accommodating and moved us to a booth. Again, the sushi was amazing. We had the Earthquake roll, Spicy crunchy crab, Boston roll, Philly roll, and Spicy yellowtail! The fried ice cream is to die for. It’s like having a funnel cake with creamy vanilla ice cream. Definitely will return!

This update is down a star. I’m not sure why. I just don’t feel like a fan and«A-OK» is more appropriate. Last night my wife and I had Sunday dinner at Yama. We were greeted by pretty much every member of staff. Not all at once like Norm at Cheers, but one at a time. It was a little funny. Service was very good and attentive. You have a principal server but every staff person will check on you on their way by. Really good job of avoiding that moment when you have food in your mouth. Impressive. My wife had the sushi & sashimi dinner while I had the sushi dinner. Both came with both miso soup and a small green salad with ginger dressing — all very traditional. The soup was quite good and the salad was okay. We felt a little rushed when the entrees arrived before we finished our salads. It wasn’t terrible but it required a lot of rearranging of the table and was a little(just a little) disruptive. Low-sodium soy sauce is available but has to be requested and shows up in the same dispenser as the full-salt on the table. Do they keep it straight? The sushi is good. Someone somewhere has rinsed the rice or otherwise reduced the starch content so the rice came apart with even a light dip in soy sauce. The California roll was nice. My wife’s sashimi was good, as was her sushi. The spicy tuna roll was uncomfortably dry. I’m not sure if it was the nori or the rice or sitting too long or what but it was rough to get down. Very unfortunate. The restaurant is very pleasant, usually quiet so easy to talk to the people you are dining with and as noted service is exemplary. Perhaps they were having a bit of an off day — that is always possible. We’ll certainly go back but it wasn’t up to «I’m a fan» standards.

I’m a sushi lover! Salmon and Tuna are my favorites! I had the Dinosaur egg without fish eggs, Gold fish roll and the Lover roll! Also had salmon sashimi too. The service, like at any Japanese restaurant was quick and staff is extremely attentive. Lol, it’s like one piece of sushi is left and you see the waiter approaching to collect the plates. They want a quick turnover of customers, after all it was prime dinner timing, which is understandable. Overall, great experience and lovely food. :)

I have been visiting Yama since they first opened and I think that overall they’re a good restaurant with some pluses and minuses. Their sushi is awesome and very reasonably priced. I have also found that if you’re dining in a group that they have good options, such as tempura, for that one person who always insists they don’t want sushi. They have green tea ice cream, which I am over the moon for. Sometimes their service is poor and that seems to tie directly to how busy they are. I like to go for lunch or an early dinner and usually have a great experience, I think one out of maybe 10 visits I’ve waited too long.

Dinosaur Egg was a delicious appetizer treat. Quality of fish in the rolls was good. Crazy Stone roll was a bit flavorless. Overall, pretty good. Not as nice an atmosphere as Joss.

Let’s first address the good — the service was superb! The sushi was good! The entrees not so much. We ordered the steak and the chicken teriyaki. The entrees lacked flavor and I didn’t like the fact frozen vegetables were used vs fresh. I’ve had much better. I may go back for sushi only, but that’s just my 2 cents.

Lunch special is amazing… That all I have to say. Get a sushi lunch special for like $ 9.95? I feel like you would spend $ 20.00 anywhere else. Good service and authentic feeling.

First off the service here is really amazing! Very attentive and friendly staff! :) I’d give this place a 3.5, but sadly we’ve gotta round! Décor? Blinding. Yellow drop ceiling over bright orange walls. Really distracting. Had the soft shell crab appetizer first. The tempura veggies were way too oily. As if the oil wasn’t hot enough when they fried them. The crab was okay, I think it needs something. Plain with the flavorless tempura sauce wasn’t really that thrilling. Hubby and I also ordered two salads. They were standard greens with tasty carrot miso ginger dressing. For rolls we got yellow tail, avocado, and a paradise roll. The two standard rolls were just that, standard. But the paradise roll was pretty good. Sadly though I couldn’t really taste the mango or the shrimp for that matter. Spicy tuna on top was alright though!

Don’t let the outside fool you! Although small this sushi bar will suprise you! We ordered a chefs selection sampler that included sashimi. The white fish was to die for, it practically melted in my mouth like butter! Everything was very fresh, service was attentive and timely even though they were very busy. We sat at the small sushi bar and enjoyed the atmosphere. I do wish we could have seen more of the sushi preparation(that’s why I like sitting at the bars usually) but it was still enjoyable. Afterwards we enjoyed the green tea cheesecake with honey, it was light and a simple way to end the meal. We will definitely come again and try the popular dinosaur egg next time!

Great sushi. Some of the freshest I’ve had. Extremely gracious and courteous staff. Been here several times and haven’t had a bad piece of sushi yet. Highly recommend the BBQ Squid.

I love sushi and have eaten sushi around the world. Is it the best I’ve ever had. No. Is it the best I’ve had in Annapolis combined with excellent service? Yes. They have wasabi cucumbers that I LOVE when you are first seated. They have a bar and very inexpensive house wines. There are standard and creative rolls and starters all tasty. They recently changed their tempura batter and I am not as fond of this new. We have a copy of their menu and I make notes next to rolls as we try them. We are almost through the menu! They often serve a piece of green tea cheesecake on the house when they bring your check. You don’t have to hold your breath and wonder if you need to sell your first born to pay the bill either.

This is by far the best sushi I have ever had. My friend and I split a dinosaur egg, new yama roll, all star roll, and red moon roll. Everything we ate was so delicious. We got warm sake and split fried cheesecake and green tea cheesecake. Also delicious. All of the servers were very attentive and accommodating. When we got our bill, we were shocked at how inexpensive it was. I highly, HIGHLY recommended this place. Warning: Do not come here on a first date. You will literally be stuffing your face with food and they will not call you back.

Substandard food, but really good service. I had chirashi and a basic tuna maki, my usual choices when eating at a sushi restaurant for the first time. I figure, you can always judge how good a sushi place is by how fresh their fish is. Judging by the flaccid fish choices for the chirashi, Yama is not on par with any of my favorite restaurants in Annapolis, or my favorite sushi spots across the U.S. I was taken aback when they served tilapia with the chirashi. I didn’t eat that part. I didn’t know that dirty fresh water fish was good enough to be on a chirashi bowl, since chirashi is supposed to be an array of the restaurant’s best and freshest fish selections. The tuna maki was also forgettable. What a disappointment. Their saving grace is the service. Both servers who tended to me were great! Servers get 5 stars. The food gets negative stars.

Unilocal should really allows halfsies because I want to give this place 3.5 stars! But rounding it to 4 for the service. I’ve been to this sushi bar couple times the past 2 years. My boyfriend and I stopped by 2 weeks ago because we were in the area. We came right when they were open so we had to sit at the bar for a bit while they finishing up some last cleaning on the booths. We ordered a whole bunch of different rolls and hand rolls. We got spicy tuna and California hand rolls. They were both flavorful and delicious. Then we had different rolls on their menu. Pearl, Christmas Tree and Sunset rolls were amazing! We also ordered the Spider Man III rolls and they were okay. It took them a long while to get our spider man rolls out. We were pretty sure that they forgot it since they brought everything out but that roll and we had to remind them about it. There were two servers working at the time. Our server was SUPER nice. He made small jokes and was attentive despite the place got busier later. The other server, granted he wasn’t our server, but he LITERALLY ignored us the whole time(we only tried to get his attention to ask about our roll since we couldn’t find our server). Our server brought us cheesecake on the house at the end of our meal. It was normal cheesecake, but it was very thoughtful of him. Will definitely return if we’re in the area!
