Found Rick’s on Second while in town across the street to attend a performance at the El Campanil theater. I didn’t even see that Rick’s was open due to a lack a signage, but Unilocal suggested it was a great place for lunch. Once inside, this is a cute and small restaurant with a good casual vibe. Our server was very charming and welcoming! She served us carrots and cucumbers with ranch. Then quickly brought us our drinks and took our sandwich orders. The Prosserville sandwich(turkey, avocado, tomato and bacon) was amazing and huge! Came out very fast with a Reese’s cookie(homemade) and a very small bowl of strawberries. This was a great experience and the staff was wonderful. They could do themselves a favor and add an «Open» sign and maybe a sign on the sidewalk so visitors would notice this place! Go visit when you are in downtown Antioch!

the company I work for wanted lunch and since we all usually get fast food, we decided to do something different today. I got on Unilocal & found these guys. they had a pretty good size order ready in less than 30 minutes after we faxed it in. the people were helpful & friendly when we walked inside & the atmosphere was lovely. the food was aaaaamazing, most specifically the garlic bread! I’ll definitely be back on my own time soon!

Was highly recommended by a lady in Brentwood and like to support family owned restaurants. Looked it up and saw that it was 4 ½ stars and so we agreed to try it Came in with four other ladies, day out junking and thrifting but I was disappointed when I arrived. Service was good but the food wasn’t anything that I couldn’t have made myself at home. The sandwiches are around $ 10.00 and comes with a small bowl of cantaloupe(5 pieces) and a cookie. The chocolate chip cookie was the best part. One lady found a sticker in her salad and the waitress was gracious and gave her a $ 10 gift certificate to come back. I give it 2 stars as I feel the prices are a bit high and for the sticker in the salad.

If you are a freeloader who is looking for a free meal, this is not the place for you. If you are a smart consumer and prefers to pay for quality meals and good service, this is your kind of restaurant. Every place has good and bad days. It is how the management handles these bad days that decides true integrity of an establishment. I had the Mt Diablo and my friend had the Contra Loma, both sandwiches were tasty, loved the side dishes of fruits and veggies(free of charge, amazing ideal) and the garlic bread is definitely tasty. Will return.

Monday October 5th at 1pm I brought a friend in after prazing the place on how good it was, I got to tell you I ordered the contra loma and my friend ordered the empire mine I also ordered garlic bread as an appetizer and can you believe the food came out first very skimpy 10.75 sandwichs I could of made at home bread was hard and pickles were sour along with the canalope tasted spoiled I told the guy waiter he did nothing I also asked where are garlic bread was he came back and brought burnt piece of bread not even cut into pieces what a joke I felt so imbarrassed after speaking so highly of ricks I started to look around and seen a young man was in kitchen not the normal guy or lady I believe are the owners the place has changed for the worse it was terrible also a homeless man was in eating a sandwitch and spitting on his plate then coughing then to top it off he was putting salt in his water and at least 10 napkins were all over the table I am sooo disappointed I will not be back the sandwitchs were made very skimpy I used to be a regular customer but not anymore. I hope the owners read this because the food sucked and when I told are guy waiter this all he said was o I been here since July sorry. I bet there are more people that stopped eating here because the food was not eatable except for the cookie it was good. shame on the waiter for even bringing out the food looking like that I wish I had taken a picture of it.

We wanted to grab a bite to eat before a show at the theater across the street. The only thing I can say positive is the clam chowder was«ok». I had ravioli, wife had lasagne… all part of their $ 11.95 «all you can eat pasta» specials that came with soup or salad, one pass of garlic bread(nope, if you get more pasta you are outta luck if you want bread with it, dumb). On the menu they mention to order the lasgane early as it sells out quickly… seriously? Not all that, I tried a bit of it. My ravioli tasted like freezer burned archives from the rear of the freezer. I ordered more only because I was hungry(and aparently a glutten for punishment) but could only stomach a few more ravioli(if I had more garlic bread I might’ve eaten more only b/c the bread at least had some flavor). What else? My wife was heading to the bathroom and a fat-a**, inconsiderate air conditioning contractor working on their system looked at her and cut her off, taking the only bathroom right in front of her. I would rather starve than eat here again. Complete waste of money and they think they are all that? Me thinks not! I only give 1 star for garlic bread and the half-a** chowder. This place SUCKS!

My dear friend and I had a lovely lunch at Rick’s On Second this afternoon. I couldn’t decide between the Open Faced Albacore Tuna broiled sandwich or the Shrimp Louie, so my friend and I decided to split each one. Without prompting, our sweet server split the salad onto two plates, which had an ample amount of nice sized shrimp(not the teeny tiny bay shrimp you sometimes get on a Shrimp Louie). The garlic bread that accompanied the salad was delicious! The Open Faced Albacore Tuna broiled sandwich is served atop an English muffin with tomato and cheddar cheese. It was a perfect combination of flavors. What a delicious lunch! The cucumber, carrot, celery little appetizer was a refreshing change to the bread most restaurants serve. The staff was so friendly and made us feel so welcome. We will DEFINITELY be returning to try other menu items, which also look delicious!

I finally had the opportunity to have lunch here. It was outstanding. My friend had a chicken pasta salad and I ordered hot pastrami on marble rye. The lunch began as stated by another writer. It seemed small until main event came. We needed the room. My sandwich was terrific we had a side of garlic bead, delicious. The lunches e were accompanied by a small bowl of fresh sliced strawberries and a small bowl of crisp dill slices. We added coffee and ice tea. The bill, with a generous tip, came to about $ 28. We will be back to try soups and more garlic bread. Great service, clean and good service. I almost forgot about the delightful cookie that completed our lunch. Perfect.

When i think of Rick’s on second I think of my family. because my mom auntie and cousins would always meet up here on our lunch break just to catch up on life. it was literally a tradition. they start you out with celery & carrots and ranch to dip it in :) then you order your meal and you get a delicious cookie & french bread with it. the ladies that work there are super sweet. i definitely recommend this nice little place

This place is pretty good! Love the sandwiches! A few of the ladies ordered the quiche, which seems to be their specialty! I highly recommend it! Also the sandwiches have really cool names!

Hubby and I decided to go to a couple of thrift stores downtown. Well I decided and dragged him with me, poor guy. Hubby didn’t know what to order in his words Foo Foo restaurant. It’s not Foo Foo at all. The menu was small, soups, salads and sandwichs. I ordered him an open faced veggie, mine was a turkey. They had cute names but I can’t remember. The chairs are a bit rickety and a tad uncomfortable, but I have a big butt, so honestly small butted people should be fine, lol. Décor was cute and interesting. They have photos of Antioch way back when. Probably 100 years ago or close too. Even had a photo of their restaurant back in the day, really cool. Our food came very quickly. Presentation was good, kind of expected more fruit. The fruit cups had about 4 pieces of cantaloupe in tiny bowls. Our sandwiches were good and very fresh, the cookie was awesome. The price was a tad high for what you get, but I realize your paying for a bit of history. Ricks on 2nd is an Antioch iconic establishment, it’s good to support our downtown. Btw the owner was our server and she was a very sweet person. We will definitely go back.

It has changed some since the last time I was here. The usual veggie plate… looked like someone else ate off of it before we got it! It had two carrots, 3 cucumber slices and two celery sticks… I have never seen it look like that. Not quite what it used to be… but the sandwiches were still good. Just different I guess.

I’m so glad Rick’s is open again! This is classic Antioch– Good food, great atmosphere and service and I love all the pictures of old Antioch! I love also the new hours and days– it’s great for a Saturday lunch! And it’s nice to have the new kids menu :-)(side note– ask what cookies they have when you come. All are great, but they do serve cookies with nuts if anyone had an allergy. But they were super great about switching that around for us– we got extra fruit!)

We get ricks on second to cater for our work events and I la-la-love it! Their food is always fresh and so good. Salads are uh-mazing, I’ve had just about every one they have. Their chicken caesar is my favorite. The chicken is perfect and the give a healthy portion with the salad. And the cookies are ! I was so disappointed to hear they were closing but ecstatic to find they’re opening again! Time to order a sammie! ;)

This is my favorite sandwich shop! I always get exactly what I want, and I eat at this shop at least once or twice a month. Every time I order my order is filled without mistake, and I usually have strange orders due to some allergies that I have. The meat is always tasty and fresh, the bread never soggy or hard/crusty. I would go here for a sandwich lunch if that is what you want. I never order anything else, except for their cookies(which are also good, but taste more store bought than homemade).
