First time here and I’ll definitely be coming back. I went on a Wednesday evening which I thought wouldn’t of been as busy it was but we are seated right away. The service was extremely attentive and explained everything on the menu, made suggestions, etc. It has been a long time since I’ve been somewhere where the service was this good. The food was equally amazing I had the sausage sampler and black forest Wienerschnitzel and the beet salad. I also had their homemade Meyer lemon cheesecake with raspberry cookie crust Yum! Definitely looking forward to next time to try the sauerkraut balls and some French onion soup!

This was a disappointing experience. Had reservations at 7pm, but arrived at 6:15. We had a drink in the bar which had no seating left, and the old fashioneds were made from pre mix. They were not bad, just not what you would expect from an established supper club. We did have the sausage platter appetizer which was really good, but it was now 7pm and we were not seated per our reservation. We asked the waitress if we were going yo have to wait any longer and she told us they were right on schedule. At 7:20, we had no update and the people in the bar next to us were unhappy that they were not seated yet and wondered how much longer they would have to wait. At this point we decided to leave and turned our«number» back in to the hostess who scowled at us and said that its only been 20 minutes. It was unfortunate as we were really looking forward to the German food. Sorry to say that we won’t visit again.

This place is a classic/relic. Just good eatin’ here. Me and a buddy stopped in for lunch. They got a classic old-time salad bar(don’t forget their famous hot bacon dressing!). Everything was fresh. We banged out an order of cheese curds — 2 thumbs up — and I had to get some not-on-the-soup-and-salad-bar goulash. It was good but nothing to brag about(not that they were bragging). The chicken cordon bleu was good but the ham was just blanketed on top of a chicken breast with cheese melted on top, in lieu of the chicken being hammered out and the ham/cheese rolled up inside. Burger was cooked to temp, juicy and pretty much on point. Give it a go if you’re hungry and rolling on by.

Underachieving! Heard good things about Mark’s but they failed to deliver on our first visit. Came to Appleton for a performance at the PAC on a Friday night so my wife and I thought we would have some German food first. After an hour wait for a table, we got there at 4:45pm, we were seated(by the doorway) and given menus. Not seeing any German entrees, which I had researched on their website, I asked the waitress and was told that they were not available on Fridays. Sure wish that would have been stated on their website since their claim to fame is their German food. I settled for their perch dinner and was disappointed to see it was the run of the mill bar fish from a wholesaler. The German potato salad was good as a side, but it makes me wonder what I missed in their entrée. Parking was an issue and if you don’t like being cramped in and constant traffic past your table, you may want to come on an «off» night or try somewhere else.

Just had dinner tonight(New Years Eve). We were with a party of 14 and the service and food was absolutely outstanding. The service was absolutely great, very attentive waitresses, Casey was phenomenal. The owner came out and talked with our party for several minutes to check and make sure everyone was satisfied. That’s a great sign when the owner is at the front of the house mingling with customers!!! That way he knows of any problems!!! By the way, we came here 3 years ago with a party of 12 on NYE and we had the same awesome experience. I would recommend Marks Eastside without hesitation!!!

Bartenders rock. The French onion soup is the best ever! The kraut balls are awesome. Great menu selection. I will be back. I liked how all the servers had super cute mini skirts on ;)

What an exceptional dining experience! Great ambiance, very reasonable prices, and the Jagerschnitsel, spaetzle, and red cabbage are the best I’ve had outside Germany! Service was outstanding! You have to try the owner’s spectacular home brew called Mark’s East Side! One of the best porters I’ve ever tasted — and I am a bonafide beer snob! Cheers and don’t miss this unique dining experience!

The experience at Mark’s East side was pretty good with the service and food being pretty good. Enter We actually arrived just as the place opened at 4:30 so we were seated immediately. The waitress did explain the menu very well when we said it was our first visit and recommended the steak as well as the fish. I didn’t take advantage of the check in offer as I am not really a fan of sauerkraut regardless of who makes it. The waitress returned quickly and took our order Dinner We ordered the Porterhouse steak with twice baked potato, Haddock, and Shepherd’s Pie on the mainstream menu. The porterhouse was very good and while tasty, it was the only reason for the star missing as the medium steak was a bit medium rare. I recommend ordering one temperature higher than what you want. Not really a deal breaker as I can go a temp above or below and be okay with it. The twice baked potato was very good as well. The haddock was tasty and Shepherd’s pie as well. We finished with Crème Brûlée which was very tasty and creamy. I recommend stopping in to see this and the other offerings they have!

Not the greatest experience I have ever had a a restaurant. Today was our first time visiting Mark’s and we didn’t really know their procedure. We walked up to the hostess stand, I gave them our name and party of two and she just handed us a number and went onto the next person in line behind us. Not really knowing what to do with the number, we walked into the bar and ordered a couple of beers. When the beer came, we had to ask the bartender what we were supposed to do with the number and he explained the system to us. The bartender provided good service. We were at the bar for about 8 – 10 minutes waiting for our table and noticed another party of two who came in after us were given a table before us, which bothered us a little bit. When we got to the table, our server, Jodi, didn’t offer us any drinks. She automatically filled our glasses with water and left us to look at the menu. When we were ready to order she took my wife’s order and asked if she wanted a salad and what type of potato, but when I ordered, she didn’t ask me about either. I would have ordered a salad had it been offered. We also would have ordered an appetizer but that was never offered, and she again failed to offer drinks, so we were stuck with just our water. When the food came out, she set the plates in front of us, then said«wait, looks like they put the wrong ticket up» presumably meaning the cooks in the kitchen and then picked up the food she had set in front of us, took it to the next table over and set it in front of them. Then she realized it WAS our food after all and picked it back up and put it in front of us. Maybe I am just being picky, but I was kinda put off by the fact that my food had been put in front of someone else for them to breathe on and pass on any illnesses they may be dealing with. All in all, the food was only ok, the service was below average, and the atmosphere is dark and dreary. From our experience tonight, not really a place that I would recommend. There were a lot of other people in the place that seemed to be having a good time though, so maybe it was just us or just our server. Take it as you will, I guess.

Italian chicken soup was loaded with fresh veggies and sausage, well seasoned it could have been my main course. The sauerbraten is incredible! Better than I’ve had in years, including in Germany. It’s truly authentic. Rest of our party had different schnitzels. They were great, crisp outside, tender and moist inside and small portions were still large. The spaetzel is homemade, so perfectly done. The décor is really nice since it’s been fully remodeled, the bathrooms are lovely and large. Our server was excellent with proper attention without unnecessary intrusion. I hate when they interrupt the table conversation. She was excellent!!! I wish I lived closer, our German spot in San Diego is no where near this quality. We hope to return!

Wife and I had early dinner here on Saturday night, good selection of German and American dishes, as well as Seafood selections. Wife had the schnitzel which was fantastic, with fried egg, capers and sauce. I had the Prime Rib which just melted in your mouth. Had house salad with hot bacon mustard dressing, really tasty. Also enjoyed the house Porter. Service was good, water glasses constantly filled up. We will be back!

Not as good as I was expecting — & we had heard such great things about this local favorite. My husband & I both ordered steaks, & both of us were pretty disappointed — definitely had better, they just were nothing special. However — I would highly recommend the Sauerkraut Balls — those were definitely worth the trip, & made our 1hr wait for a table at the bar a little more enjoyable.

We like to go to Mark’s East Side because they have a good selection on their menu. My husband will always order the German food and I prefer their salads and seafood. Our favorite appetizers are the Bavarian Scotch egg which is a hard boiled egg, wrapped in sausage, battered and deep fried. Very good! Their sausage sampler is also very tasty. On our latest visit we had Mark come to the table and tell us about his special beer he is brewing. It is a dark porter with a strong start and a sweet end taste. I usually like a lighter beer but I thought it was very good. Worth trying. But they also have Stella on tap which is one of my favorites. I ordered the Strawberry Fields Forever Salad which comes with a grilled chicken breast on top. Of course it is full of strawberries, feta cheese, candies nuts and red onion. Plenty for a complete meal. My husband ordered the Schnitzel A la Holstein which was a breaded veal cutlet topped with fried eggs, capers, and hollandaise sauce. It was served with potato dumplings. He said the veal was very tender and the dumplings were perfect. Mark also does a terrific job with fresh seafood. He has daily specials with a variety of fish. The wait staff is attentive and the prices are fair. It does get very busy on Friday evenings so we do try to visit during the week. We like to eat in the bar area rather than the dining room. We are just more comfortable there.

I tried several things on the menu and overall very happy with my choices. For appetizer I had the sausage smaller platter, sauerkraut balls(free sample from Unilocal checking in) and French onion soup. The sausage platter came with crispy thin baguette, caramelized onion and mustard dipping sauce. The crispy baguette added great texture while onions offers sweetness balanced with mild mustard spice and tartness. Sauerkraut balls were fried and served with a cream dipping sauce. The kraut balls were golden, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. Very good. I’m a huge fan of french onion soup. This place had one of the best French onion soups I’ve had. The broth was rich and well balanced acidity, cheese melted perfectly on top. Immensely satisfying. For entrée I had jaegersnitzel from the old-country menu selection. The dish perfectly depicted the rustic characteristics of country. The pork was thinly breaded and fried, the meat was still moist and not dry; the mushroom gravy had rich red wine tones infused with thyme. Potatoes dumplings were very soft and moist on the inside. Sauerkraut with hints of caraway and the apples balanced out the dish, sweet, savory and tart. The only area of opportunity I see would be the décor of the restaurant — could use an update. Otherwise great good with good service. I would return again.

It was ok. Just ok. The moment you walk in you get bombarded by an overpowering dusty smell to the place. The décor is straight out of the 1950’s which isnt necessarily a bad thing except that it seems that was the last time they dusted or cleaned or did anything to the place. Had a combo platter with Weiner Schnitzel, German Pork Chop and Sausage. The weiner Snitzel was tender and had good flavor. The Schnitzel and the spaetzel were the saving grace to this place. The pork chop was non descript and the applesauce that was served with it, you can just tell it was out of a can. The sausage was very salty as was the saurkraut that was served with it. My friend, who had a sausage combo for her entrée, thought the saurkraut was good. Service was barely there. The place is billed as a supper club, so i expected for appetizer, entrée, desert to come out at a nice easy pace but everything basically came out all at once. Had a better supper club experience at the Hob Nob in Kenosha. Had better German food at the Old Bavarian in Appleton.

Sorry but still not happy with this place. Don’t know why I keep going back. Maybe I will appreciate it more when I am 80 years old and my taste buds have gone. LOL. I am beginning to wonder about my friends who say they love this place. Maybe they are the ones who have risen my expectations, only to have them shot down again. The ladies at the bar are great. On top of things and personable. My drink was not so nice. It was so watered down. Too much ice. Didn’t have the heart to ask them to remake it. Sauerkraut balls, yum of course. Had the pretzel crusted chicken. Just ok. Chicken was tender(+), green beans were very tasteless(-), and the wild rice was over cooked and mushy(-). Decided to skip dessert in fear that wouldn’t be great either.
