Ordered two rolls, now before I even get my food I have an issue. My total was $ 15.79, I handed over a twenty and he hands me back $ 2.21. I’m not sure why he found it appropriate to take a tip without me giving it to him and then throwing away the receipt. Considering all he did was take my order, I’m taking it to go at that. Ha count your change if it really matters to you, just a heads up to all patrons. Plus the sushi wasn’t that good, I got the spicy tuna and the spicy salmon crunch rolls.

Good sushi, expensive prices, small rolls. That about sums up Tokyo Sushi, but I had a Groupon so not really complaining. On the search for other sushi spots in the area.

ONEOFTHEBESTASIANRESTAURANTSINTHISAREA. New chef James Park(who used to work with Iron Chef Morimoto) makes this place a must try. As an Asian foodie, I frequented Tokyo Sushi under the previous owners and was sad when they sold the restaurant… Until I actually tried the food of the new place! The special rolls recipes of the old sushi team are gone(thus prompting some recent scathing 1 star reviews), but believe me that this change of ownership has taken this restaurant’s food up a couple notches in sophistication. The prices are higher than the older place, but quite reasonable for the quality and uptick in sophistication. Chef James Park used to work at the famous Nobu restaurant in NY but moved back to this area(lucky us) and opened up an urban quality sushi restaurant right here in the suburbs. First of all, don’t just come here and get the standard sushi and sashimi offerings. Try some of James Park’s more creative offerings such as: Carpaccio Sashimi: 3 kinds of sashimi in a decadent sauce that complements the flavors of the fish wonderfully. No overpowering flavors, just a sweet melody that works well together. This is a must try if you like to try something different. Quite nice paired with some of their house saki. Tuna & Salmon Pizza: the fish is on something like a cracker with some creamy sauce and jalapeño peppers to give it a blend of contrasting textures and flavors in each bite. Black Cod Miso: If you are a cod lover, like me, this is a satisfying dish. I give them credit for cooking it perfectly. It is a rather mild flavored dish, so if you want something that shocks your palate go for something else. Hot Stone Bi Bim Bap: if you are a Bi Bim Bap fan, get this!!! It is the best I’ve ever had(and I’ve had a lot). For a Korean comfort food dish I didn’t expect this dish to be carried out with such excellence. Each ingredient was seasoned well and none were over cooked. The rice was perfect texture(al-dente) and seemed to be a little different variety than standard white rice. Oh I crave this dish and must have it again soon! Ramen: They offer two kinds of Ramen and the noodles are fresh, not the instant stuff. Although I’ve had some better ramen at other places, this is great that we can some decent ramen locally here. I certainly plan to make my way through their menu and will post more info later. With this place and Yen’s Café’s Taiwanese menu, Asian foodies like me are beginning to get more choices around Loudoun county!

Having a trouble giving 3 or more stars on this restaurant. Looks like Unilocal is filtering out. I have all 3 friends went here leave reviews, all filtered for no reason. Looks like Unilocal wants advertisement fees from restaurants.

Wow, Unilocal won’t let me post anything higher than 3 stars. My rating is 5, but due to Unilocal not recommending my review, I’m forced to change it to 3. Below is my original review: I was kinda skeptical after reading some of the recent reviews, but after my visit, I am so glad that I tried it for myself. This is now my favorite Asian restaurant in the DMV area. Just looking at the menu, you can tell that this is is definitely not your average, run of the mill sushi restaurant. Sure, if you are just looking for your everyday sushi and rolls, you might think this is not that special of a place. But I was pleasantly surprised by some of the special dishes that this restaurant was offering. I mean, I’ve been to many sushi restaurants and Asian bistros, but I couldn’t believe that I could get this kind of quality Japanese fusion style food this far out from the city. We started out with Carpaccio sashimi appetizer that had tuna, salmon and yellow tail(?) submerged in special sauce(which I can’t quite put my finger on, but simply delicious). Then we tried out the tuna pizza which had sashimi pieces laid out on top of pizza crust with(again) special sauce on top. It was something I haven’t seen anywhere before, and although it sounded a bit off on the menu, it was a great combination. Then for our main dish, we had miso black cod and filet steak(I mean how many times do you see fillet steak menu in a Japanese restaurant? I just had to try it). They were both great. Something we’ve never tasted before. The fish and steak were cooked to perfection(moist and not over cooked), and rice that came with it was better than any sushi rice I had anywhere else(Sushi yoshi’s chirashi rice comes close though). Steak came with some special tartare on top of the rice that tasted like spicy tuna and guacamole that added Japanese flavor to the dish. I could see how other people who are more used to a normal Sushi restaurant might complain about the menu choices(and prices), but IMO, I would actually consider this restaurant a bargain compared to what I would have to pay to a similar restaurant in a more urban area(esp. in DC).

This used to be my favorite Sushi restaurant on the plant. Which is saying a lot because I travel often for business and have eaten sushi in almost every major city in the US. The new management has ruined what used to be a great restaurant. The old management used to have a variety of special rolls, which were my favorite. They’re gone. My son and I ate there last night, for his birthday no less. It was so disappointing. What was supposed to be a great meal with my son turn out to be a complete waist of $ 60. Why we will never return? They made three mistakes with our small order for two, the spicy tuna roll and California roll tasted«funky», they didn’t offer soup and salad until after we made them aware of the mistakes, the portion sizes have drastically decreased, and finally as mentioned before the prices have increased. I give them 6 months and they’ll be out of business.
