Only thing worse than the food is the service. I ordered teriyaki trout on a bed of rice, and neither were cooked. When I asked the staff for a new plate, they refused. I will not be returning.

The thing I enjoyed most about this place was the atmosphere. Large area for outdoor seating right in the heart of Five Points. Sitting outside on a sunny, beautiful day while eating some delicious seafood made my day! Our server was friendly, helpful, and quick to bring refills.

At first I thought this was my favorite new place, however after several trips, I discovered the food is good, however the service and wait staff leave a little to be desired. But my biggest beef with Marker 7 is that at any given moment if they get slow they close for the day. I have been there twice now during regular business hours and they refused to seat us, stating they were closing early and the grill was already closed. I had called and checked the hours before we left for the restaurant but to my disappointment they decided to close early both times. Better ask if they are slow before you head out.

One of our favorites to start with is the Grouper Nuggets. Melanie enjoys the tartar sauce that comes with it but I prefer cocktail sauce myself. Since we had another guest with us this evening, I chose an additional appetizer of Buffalo Shrimp, sprinkled with bleu cheese crumbles. The only negative thing I have to say about either appetizer is that they are not available in a 55 gallon drum. In the event of any upcoming apocalypse, I could live sufficiently off of either one. I also wanted to start my meal with a salad, because they have what I consider to be the best salad in Athens. The lettuce is always fresh and a wonderful green mix while the dressing are thick, rich and loaded with flavor. If you can’t handle seafood because of allergies, the salads make an excellent alternative. Our guest ordered the Grouper Basket grilled with Mac & Cheese and Hushpuppies. She thought the grouper was cooked to perfection and had tons of flavor. Melanie ordered the Grouper Basket fried with Steamed Broccoli and Hushpuppies. The fried grouper is similar to the nuggets but the pieces are larger. Melanie had nothing but good things to say about her fish and thoroughly enjoyed it and the steam broccoli. I selected the Snapper with the Red Pepper Cream sauce. OMG — DEELISH! It’s just the right amount of heat to compliment the natural flavor of the fish. The fries are homemade and were cooked properly with just the right amount of crispiness. Marker 7 Coastal Grill is one of our favorite places is Athens. If it’s nice out, their porch makes for a great time but there’s plenty of comfortable seating indoors on warmer days. Marker 7 Coastal Grill is a MUSTTRY in Athens and we think it will fast become one of your favorites too. Guten appetit!

The quality of their food is ok – I’ve never had a bad meal there, though I can’t say that a meal stood out, and given that it’s not particularly cheap, I’d like the food to stand out more than it does. They do know how to cook their fish, and it’s quite plausible that you’ll have a good meal there, I’ve just never been wowed.

This place knows their seafood. Everything was cooked perfectly; nothing was overdone or overly greasy even though everything we ordered was fried. The crab soup was incredible, the hushpuppies were some of the best I’ve ever had, and the fries were herbed and delicious. Oh, and the sriracha aioli was to die for. Our server was very friendly and funny as well. We came on a slow, rainy night, so the relatively serene atmosphere might not be representative of what it is generally like when it packed with students, but we had a great time and enjoyed the ambiance. Since the restaurant is a refurbished house-turned-restaurant, it has a naturally homey, welcoming feel. Can’t say enough good things!

Food is average. Service is poor. Have tried 3 times because the location is great but just doesn’t measure up. Too bad.

The food here is good(4 stars), but I just don’t get what this restaurant is trying to do(–1 star). The inside of the place is pretty cool, you walk in and it’s kind of like you’re in a coastal bar and grill; you expect there to be sand on the floor almost. Nice. That said — why is this place so expensive yet the food is served in baskets with paper? If you are going to charge $ 9 for an appetizer and $ 10 for a 6″ sandwich, can I at least get my food on a plate? It’s located in the most expensive part of Athens, in an old house right next door to one of the most expensive restaurants in town. I get it — this is fresh local seafood and the price reflects the sourcing, but the baskets and paper just seem lazy. Also, am I the only person who thinks that the seating isn’t comfortable? My partner and I went for lunch on a Saturday. We were seated quickly by the hostess, but our server took a good long while to get to our table, which didn’t make sense because the place was not packed or busy. We ordered the shrimp bruschetta to start with, which was honestly just amazing and fantastic. For real — it was absolutely delicious and I have nothing bad to say about it. Great flavor, decent portion, and good for sharing. My entrée was the shrimp poboy with fries, and I also ordered an additional side of the macaroni and cheese. The shrimp poboy was fantastic though a little small in size, only about 6″ long. It tasted great however and was piled high with 6 good sized pieces of shrimp, though the batter on the shrimp was too light for what I think of as a proper poboy. I honestly don’t remember the fries. I think they were good. Now — this macaroni and cheese. What’s the big deal?! It was shells in cheese sauce: not impressed! Sure it tasted homemade but it wasn’t amazing, though the table of sorority girls behind me seemed to think it was the damn cat’s pajamas. The sandwich came in a basket, on top of paper. The macaroni was in a thick ceramic cafeteria bowl and was surprisingly small in size as well. My partner had the clam strips basket. I didn’t try any so I won’t comment on it, but I think that he liked it, I know that he didn’t have any leftover. It came in a basket, on top of paper. Maybe these prices are as low as they can go, which is why the food is presented in such a way that I wondered if I should bus my own table. Yeah, that’s it: the owners want to focus on the food and I’m being shallow. If they had actual plates and bowls, then the prices would be even higher to cover that cost. That’s it, right? Yeah, I figured it out!

Ok so my hubby read the reviews and wanted some seafood. I on the other hand don’t eat seafood. I order the cholicken tacos. Let’s just say I think maybe 2 small chunks of chicken. It was more a corn salsa taco. Husband said his was good. Oh yeah and a glass of wine was 900. Not one I think ill be back too.

We had a family dinner here on a Monday night. The restaurant is cute and cozy with a beach theme. I was not impressed with the food. They were out of one of their only veggie sides(broccoli). About 15 minutes after we ordered, the server let us know they were out of fried oysters. They only had 2 desserts even though the menu listed several. I had the pork dish which was described as having apples and onions on top of it. I did not see any apples. The meat itself was cooked nicely, but it lacked salt(and I am not a person who uses a lot of salt). The dish comes with broccoli, but since they were out, they let me sub Brussels sprouts. They were ok but very over cooked. The sweet potato side was probably the best part. I tried my husband’s Mac and cheese and it was terrible. It had no taste and very little cheese. I tried a chip which was good. We had key lime pie for dessert which had an ok flavor but the texture was grainy. We also had banana pudding which was nice. Overall I would not come back here. It is not worth the money. Service was also slow.

Took my Dad for a lunch date. We both ordered the Oyster Po’Boys. He had the kettle chips and I went for the fries. We really enjoyed our meal. The oysters were hot, perfectly battered and NOT greasy! The slaw was good and my fries were excellent. I would have loved a Remoulade sauce for the Po’Boy to kick it up a notch, but the tartar sauce was good. Sweet tea was pretty good, too. Our waitress was excellent! I will definitely head back when I’m in town.

Visiting Athens for two months and wanted to try this place with a friend. Parking was a bit annoying as there’s not enough space In the back and the firehouse across the street had confusing signs. So we ended up parking in someone else’s establishment. Outdoor seating was nice. They had fans to help keep things cool. Friend wanted to order a sweet wine, and the waitress wasn’t sure which one was. She also didn’t know what the exact price was, and gave her a ballpark number. It ended up not being sweet and much more expensive than what was told. I ordered the stuffed shrimp with hush puppies and cole slaw. Didn’t care for the stuffed shrimp too much, but the hush puppies were delicious. We decided to share the fried Oreos for dessert and ended up waiting almost 30 minutes for them. Apparently our ticket had gotten lost, but we weren’t notified until almost 20 minutes into the wait time. Our waitress had walked around dozens of times before then and never thought to look at our table and see we were without dessert. We ended up getting them for free after waiting some more. They were delicious though. I’m only here for two months, but if I were a resident I would go back and try something different.

Great Service Bad Night Food Wise… Finally made it to Marker 7 and was kinda excited, however that quickly turned from excitement to frightment. I wish to start by saying the waiter could not have been more friendly and helpful. There were 4 people in my party, myself, wife and parents. My mother wanted to try, I tried to eat their another day but left after asking about a po boy having remoulade sauce and was told no Tarter sauce only. I ordered shrimp stuffed with crab over a tomato sauce. Mother ordered Grilled Mahi Mahi with rice, Dad went with Shrimp and grits and wife crab cakes. Let me start by saying grits on dads shrimp and grits and wives crab cakes were both served cold, Dads shrimp and grits entire dish was cold(more on that later), Moms fish was ok but rice appeared to be a flavored rice like Uncle Bens style flavored with chicken broth. My wives crab cakes also served with cold grits and somehow cold sautéed spinach, the crab cake was more bread crumb then crab cake and it appeared to not be made in house. My crab stuffed shrimp with sauce was not good either, sadly it was more filler then crab and shrimp appeared to be off but I could not tell due to sauce. My fathers Shrimp and grits as stated was cold, but more importantly was clear the shrimp were on the way out, they did not taste fresh at all . The waiter did offer to reheat my fathers food, but by the time he returned to tell us it was going to be about 5 minutes everyone at the table was done eating(well done not eating as not much was eatable) The server asked if he wanted it to go and we when he said no thank you the server did offer to take it off the check(please know we did not ask for anything to be removed, and the server was tipped on the full price of the meal plus as he was amazing). Coming from South Florida and living there most of my life I am aware of fresh seafood and I am puzzled by the reviews I have read on Unilocal about the place(it appears other sites have reviews more in line with what I had). I was excited to see this place show up and get running and am sad I have one less place to dine in Athens.

We recently tried Marker 7 — Excellent food, nice to find seafood like this in Athens Georgia. The crab soup, red pepper stuffed shrimp, hamburger, and hushpuppies were all excellent. I think there are some things to know before going to this restaurant that’s leading to the complaints: The seating setup is challenging if its cold, the space is split up 1/3, 1/3, 1⁄3 between indoor seating, the bar area and four high top tables, and patio space. It was very cold the night we went, so the restaurant was packed pretty tight. Seafood is expensive and they keep the cost/portions down. If you want a lot of seafood, order a basket and an entrée and you’ll be out in under $ 30. If that’s still not enough food, then go buy a slab of fish from Earth fare across the street and let others enjoy this place.

I’ve only been here for lunch, but I had a good experience. We had a group of about five people, were seated promptly, and everyone seemed to enjoy their entrees. I thought the service was fine — friendly and we got refills, etc. I got the catfish po-boy and hushpuppies, which I thought was a really filling lunch. The hushpuppies were really tasty! Everyone else got the fish tacos, and they all seemed pleased. It’s pretty casual, but I don’t mind the fake beach atmosphere. It was pretty packed and maybe a little more pricey than what I’d want to pay, but I’d go back.

A welcome addition to the 5 points neighborhood! Awesome location, great patio, attractive décor… I was excited to try this place and grateful for the rain-induced lull in wait time tonight. Together, we had the shrimp & corn chowder which was tasty and reasonably sized for the low price tag; the fish tacos, which were really good!; the shrimp basket and catfish basket both of which were perfectly cooked, lightly battered, not too greasy and yummy! We also tried the fried Oreos… Oreos dipped in pancake batter that tasted like funnel cakes, fried, and drizzled with chocolate syrup. It was exactly what you would think… and now I can say that I’ve had fried Oreos. ;) The only thing that wasn’t a hit was the red beans n’ rice. We’re from the gulf coast and it just wasn’t what we’re used to but, that’s just our opinion! Everything else was really quite good. Service was attentive and casual with reasonable prices. Will definitely be back!
