Just went back to the Red Room after a couple of months trying most of the other clubs here. This place continues to evolve, and they haven’t stopped tweaking things, mostly for the better. This time around, the DJ was back in the high-in-the-sky booth over the bar, and the front podium area housed an excellent rock band, playing sets of great old and some newer songs that you can(and everyone certainly did) dance to. These were interspersed with the anonymous DJ’s sets, which on this night had improved, in my opinion, dramatically. House, my personal favorite, was interspersed with top 40 and recent top 40 dance, and the hip hop, my least favorite, had receded to last place, a welcome change. The band was gone by 1:00AM, which was fine, since the club music from the DJ was so good. Bottom line on what’s new and what’s the same: The sound experience here has improved, with a better music mix from the DJ, and a live rock band to boot. The crowd mix is similar to that in my last review, with singles and couples of all varieties, skewed toward the late twenties and thirties but being all ages, with no one looking like he or she needed a fake ID. The dance floor, while not huge, was roomy enough for a lively Saturday night crowd to actually dance, with none of the«squished like sardines in a can» feeling that mars the experience at some of the other clubs. There was still no cover for anyone on this Saturday, unique in this area, even off season, and parking at the Golden Nugget was only $ 5, as was the cost of a beer. Hard to beat that in AC.
