Julie, the owner, is very friendly and open for suggestions. She often asks us what to update on their menu, and if she added this would be a good choice. I like that. The beef noodle soup is very tasty. The broth has such a strong flavor. It tastes like the broth been cooked for hours or even days. Real broth, cause I am «allergic» to MSG or other artificial flavor enhancing agents. Noodles are great but often not enough. Thick and chewy are the characteristics of Julie’s noodles. I think noodles can be a bit more flavorful though. Sometimes I feel like the broth and noodles are two separate things in a bowl, they do not mix well –flavor wise I meant. Dumplings are okay, skin is too thick. Overall, this place is great, nice food truck. But a bit pricy.($ 9 for a bowl at a food truck?)

I had Julie’s when they first opened off MLK and was blown away at their authentic taste. That was over 4 years ago and then I moved away. Since being back, I had Julie’s again for the first time last week and was greatly disappointed. The taste is bland and all too sweet. The noodles are ok, but without the rich savory beef broth, it does not stand on its own. The cubes of beef were at least the right cut of beef, however, the cubes hadn’t been stewed long enough. They were hard and got stuck in my teeth. Seriously, if you’re going to the extra mile to buy beef tendon, at least cook it down to the right consistency. And lastly, the veggies. Why lettuce? Why? When I started eating, all I could think of was how the soup tastes like they used water from boiling veggies to use as the broth. The weird lettuce flavor pervades the entire meal and basically ruined it. The noodles are the saving grace and worth coming back for a different noodle soup.

Julie’s is where I go when I’m too lazy to cook or drive somewhere. I always get her beef noodles soup. I’m actually a sucker for cumin so it works out quite well. Her chili oil is great so I would definitely recommend adding that to the soup. Unfortunately, they had an increase in prices a few months ago and I don’t think a bowl of noodles with a few pieces of beef and some lettuce is worth more than $ 8 anymore, unless I’m really craving it. Also, I heard from Julie a couple of months back that they will be opening up a restaurant some time, which might be worth checking out. Pssst, there will be karaōke.

Simple but delicious flavors. She really puts her heart into her food. Dumplings are my favorite, but pork run noddles hit the spot as well.

I crave Julie’s Handmade Noodles from time to time. When I came here for my very first time as a freshman, Julie gave me a plate of watermelon to eat while I waited for my beef noodle soup! The owner is a very sweet lady. I recommend getting the beef noodle soup, the spiced chicken lo mien, or the noodle with meat bean sauce. The beef that comes with the beef noodle soup is usually tender, and the noodles are great. The only complaint I’d have is I wish it had more vegetables! I love the portion of the spiced chicken lo mien! It’s usually worth two meals for me, which is great for students on a budget. My boyfriend alternates between getting the beef noodle soup and the noodles with meat sauce. The noodles with meat sauce is more on the soupy side if you’re used to the one with more thick sauce. I’m sad that they’ve raised their prices now though. :(It’s nearly $ 9 now, and I can remember when it used to be $ 7 or $ 8. They accept credit card now, so that’s good!

Julie’s is incredible. I’ve worked as a chef in an Asian restaurant, and I can attest that anything from this place is as good as it gets, especially since it’s so inexpensive. The beef stew noodle soup(Julie’s speciality) is top notch and perfect for a sick or cold day — the noodles are chewy and dumpling-like, and the broth is perfectly salty and rich, but not overwhelming. However, the best thing I’ve ever eaten(from Julie’s and in general) is her Egg Chow Mein. I have no words to describe it, other than«otherworldly.» If you are in West Campus and don’t get Julie’s Egg Chow Mein, you’re living life wrong.

I’ve seen many a food truck in my day, but never before had I experienced a Chinese noodle truck! I gotta say, I was skeptical at first, but it really works. The pork chop noodle soup had very tender meat, and the broth hits you pretty hard with an umami flavor. The real selling point though is the flat noodles. True to the name, they tasted handmade; plus, the were flat noodles, which in my opinion is the superior of all Asian noodles. Definitely one of my favorite food trucks in Austin now. Thanks Julie!

I LOVE their beef noodle soup. This is definitely the best noodle soup place close to campus. The noodles are perfectly textured — not too soft or hard and the soup is very good. They give you the option of adding in spicy sauce and I would definitely recommend it – it gives the soup a lot more taste(it is pretty spicy though so if you don’t have a good spice tolerance I’d definitely be prepared with water)! They’re also open really late(until 2 am) so it’s a great late night option too! I’ve gotten their spicy chicken with cumin once too and it was alright(I wish the chicken had been fried instead of grilled), but next time I go I’ll definitely stick to the beef noodle soup since it’s the best item on their menu.

Chinese noodle food truck in west campus. It’s hard finding good asian food in Austin but if you’re looking for something simple and homey, this is your place. Julie’s reminds me of the street noodle shops in China that sell $ 2 bowls of delicious oily carbs. If you want something authentic, get the #1 beef noodle soup. The noodles in the soup are super thick and chewy which I love! She gives about 5 chunks of beef in every cup and there’s always cabbage on the bottom. And… That’s basically all there is to the soup. You’re probably not going to be blown away from it but you can tell that a lot of TLC from Julie went into the noodles. Be warned: The hot chili oil is pretty spicy so if you’re not used to spice, I would suggest to only get a little. My friend got the #7 egg chow mein which was a huge portion. It’s more flavorful than the noodle soup but it’s just super oily. However Julie adds a fried egg on top and we all know how much better something tastes with a fried egg. Honestly not the best i’ve had but good for Austin asian food standards. If this place was located in LA, Houston, or NYC, I would rate it 2.5÷5. Note for UT students: Julie sells lunch boxes outside CPE(chemical engineering building) starting at 11:30 every weekday. For you engineers out there, you no longer have to make the climb up Dean Keaton hill to grab lunch :)

I really enjoyed the meal(#1), the fact that it was chilly outdoor. just tasted perfect. This is a food truck area; so, it is and feels very food truck-y. Noodle was cooked perfectly, BUT the beef was little too salty. Noodle and beef were well binded with the soup and spicy sauce of theirs.

Went here several times over the past year and I really noticed a decline in her amount of meat and quality of meat. However the spicy beef noodle is still pretty amazing despite all this compared to a lot of food around campus.

W O W A friend and I came here because it was ACL weekend and we were staying near campus. The only food truck open near the apartments was Julie’s. Service: It is nothing short of typical Chinese service. Speak mandarin with her. When I ordered, Julie yelled at me and asked me why I was eating so late in Chinese, and it really made me miss my asian relatives. I just LOL-ed and told her we went to a «concert» since I was too lazy to explain what ACL was to an Asian lady. BUTHOTDAMN. This Asian lady can make noodles! FOOD: GETTHECHICKENCHOWMEIN. These noodles transported me back to China and my dad’s cooking. The chicken was tender, the noodles are handmade, and I made it super spicy. The food was so good… I ordered again and got yelled at by Julie again(hehe) she asked why I was so hungry… LOL Anyways, I cannot wait to come back!

Night out at Austin and decided to try this place out after hearing our peers rave. They’re located in a corner along with other trucks which was pretty neat(don’t see that in Dallas). When I went up to the truck, they said there was only one beef noodle soup left which worked out perfectly. We got a side of spicy sauce on the side to notch up the heat. The broth was good and it was a bit on the bland side, nothing spectacular. However the beef was on point… It was flavorful and tender! We did like how they put cabbage in it. Didn’t go well with the noodle soup. For the handmade noodle itself, it was too thick for my taste. Some parts were thick some were thin so it ended being too much for me. Would I go again? As a noodle lover, no. I’ve had MUCH better with a cheaper price. FYI– this place does not close at 11. They close at 2 am on Friday.

Thursday, 8:30PM. Quickie: + Food quality + Friendly staff — Hygiene — Slow turnaround And then??? Get a brick n’ mortar location, Julie! ********** Stuffed my face in: 1. Chicken dumplings + Firm exterior. — Paucity of chicken. 2. Egg chow mien + Delicious noodles. — Relied too much on grease.

I’m from real – sorry, mainland – China, and this is my food. Skip Coco’s and Tap House, skip Madam Mam’s and Phở Thaison, and go to Julie’s. If you speak Chinese, it’s super easy to order, and it’s like home. If you don’t, it’s okay! The names of the dishes sound pretty direct and awkward(eg. spiced chicken with cumin), but everything is good. If you’re really not sure, I’d recommend Beef Stew Noodle Soup. It’s a classic, and very good. Beware, though, when she asks if you want spicy or not. Pretty sure the area of China where she’s from is where they have no nerves in their tongues or something, because even«a little bit» means a lot to her, haha. My only comment is I wish they’d put more veggies, and maybe less meat, even. I want to feel healthy, haha. Now go get some then #TreatYoSelf to some Cow Tipping! The cool thing is Julie also goes to the CPE Lawn and serves boxed lunches for $ 7, starting at 11:30am. Cash only.

When in the mood for some hearty Asian noodles, this is a good spot in west campus. I’m not really a fan of food trucks for dinner, but when you’re in need of takeout, this isn’t a bad choice. Spicy chicken lo mein: spicy and flavorful, and the chicken was a great texture. Very filling and hearty. I would want to try some of Julie’s noodle stew next time though, but it was a much longer wait. Not bad, but probably not a place I will be craving either! Especially in a food truck park with other choices, it might be hard to choose this over the competition.

8 dollars for a heaping portion of HANDMADE noodles. Yassss. These aren’t the prettiest sort of carbs but the authentic quality is top notch. The broth is also delicious and complements the noodles’ texture brilliantly. Some of the pork chop meat that I had in my soup had a stringy, tough consistency though, but there were some meat on the bones that were deliciously tender. Never witnessed a Chinese noodle food truck in my life, and I’ve eaten my fair share of trucks. Props to you Julie for changing the world.

This place is pretty freaking good. I’m only in Austin for a few days, but leave it to me to crave Chinese food on only day two of my trip. Anyways, I was told that good Chinese food is hard to find in Austin, but then we found this gem on Unilocal. After doing our research, my friend and I were pretty stoked to give it a try. It’s a food truck located in a small food truck park on the west side of UT Austin. She has the menu in English and Chinese and it’s a variety of handmade noodles in soup and fried form, dumplings, and other basic quirky Chinese things like chicken feet and leg. You order and then wait, then she brings the food to you – it was weird some people paid right after they ordered and others paid when they received, so don’t be confused if you put in your order and she just walks away. I got the pork chop noodles($ 8) and my friend got the beef noodle soup($ 8). The handmade noodles are AMAZING. I love them. I’m from California where we are land of Asian food and I was impressed by how soft, chewy, and thick these noodles were. Noodles were sheer perfection. Honestly the rest of the dish could have sucked and I would have still loved it because that’s how good the noodles themselves are. The pork chops were also really good and flavorful as was the soup. I made the mistake of getting the spicy sauce – go for it if you’re good with spicy stuff, but otherwise definitely be warned. It has«ma la» which is this tingly numbing feeling that comes in some Chinese spicy sauces. If you can handle it, it’s amazing, but if you can’t, you’ll struggle like me haha but even that wasn’t enough to stop me from loving this bowl of noodles. Anyways there seems to be quite a bit of conflicting information on Unilocal about her store. So as of today, her store is open from 5−10pm. She seems to serve lunch boxes($ 7) that deliver to certain parts of campus, but you have to call in ahead of time to order. She delivers around 11:40am. She does take credit cards now, but like all Chinese places, she prefers that you give cash and will try to game you into giving cash. It’s pretty funny to watch. And if you speak Mandarin, pull it out because she will be nicer to you if you do. tldr; yummy noodle soup! speak mandarin to her if you can; will take credit card now but she might con you into paying with cash
