Loved It! I ordered a large pepperoni pizza and the MORPHEUS salad which is their version of the caesar salad(HUGESALAD). The staff was friendly and the place is nice and clean.

This is the second bad experience I’ve had at Spartan. For the second time, there was a person who acted like supervisor who would not let the employee at the counter take a minute to take my order uninterrupted. I ordered a slice and the same supervisor person tossed it in the oven and then pulled it out after about a minute and handed it to me, barely lukewarm. Before I could even raise an eyebrow, this person had already chased the only other other employee into the back, leaving me and one other customer alone in the front. The pizza slice probably would’ve been good if it had been hot. It’s also difficult to enjoy a meal when your presence is clearly unwelcome. One bad visit might just be bad luck, but both of the two times I’ve tried Spartan sucked. There are plenty of other pizza joints in Austin.

I can’t believe how good their pizza is. It’s got the right crust thickness, high quality ingredients and insanely delicious overall. They even named their pizza after the Greek Gods. So fun(but a little lengthy to read through)! They all sounded amazing, I had a tough time picking one. If Spartan pizza was a dude I would totally swipe right.

Normally I’d give Spartan four stars. We live in the neighborhood and have ordered for pick up three or four times. Usually the pizza has been delicious. Tonight it was just okay. This is because I ordered the Agamemnon(barbecue chicken pizza) without jalapeños. Alas, there was no barbecue sauce on the pizza. It was disappointing given that the Salt Lick barbecue sauce is a crucial part of this pizza. The receipt reflected our order correctly(no jalapeños); what we received did not. Bummer. Overall the food quality was good despite lacking the key ingredient in my pizza-we were happy with the salads and my husband enjoyed his Hercules pizza. As an aside, in reading recent reviews, anyone who drunkenly vomits-into a cup or otherwise-shouldn’t be surprised that a shopowner is less than pleased about it. It being SXSW or late at night on 6th is no excuse.

I ate there this past Thursday. 3⁄17 and ate a slice of the pizza that was on the board with sausage and some other cheese. I also had a salad. Those being the only food I had that afternoon before getting sick. I understand that with the masses of people from Sxsw the staff must have been exhausted, but their customer service was close to none. I have worked in the pizza industry for years and I have never experienced anything like this. I’m hope from what you said, it was just a fluke.

I actually think the pizza here is decent for Austin. I’ve eaten here about 3x after a night downtown with friends. We came back here one night a few weeks ago(one drank a little bit too much). He threw up in his cup on the bar counter, and I was 100% sure we cleaned it up before the staff even saw it. When they finally looked over, they saw us wiping the counter and the floor so they assumed we made a huge mess, which meant it made their jobs tougher. Our group felt really bad so we immediately cleaned up everything. We even wiped the floor as best we could. Despite that, the staff gave us the ugliest attitude. The ladies gave us some some not-so-kind words, but we just continuously apologized. I’ve worked in the restaurant business in my younger years so I more often empathize with staff. On our way out waiting for our Über, however, one of the girls followed us out to lecture us some more. I told her that we already cleaned everything up and continued to apologize… what more does she want from us? She pretty much told us we weren’t welcomed back and barged back inside. Come on! Based on the location, the hours of operation and the type of food served during such hours… did you expect to never have drunk customers?

I’m gonna have to revise my previously good reviews to something less than stellar. My usual late night meals have been more or less pretty good. My friends and I ended a night on 6th street early when one of our friends drank a little too much and was really craving pizza. We walked here from dirty sixth expecting to get a few slices. Our friend drunkenly threw up on the bar table and immediately ran to the bathroom. We helped clean up the table, made sure the stools were clean, and wiped up the floor while waiting for our pizza. When our friend came out of the bathroom, we cleaned up everything around the toilet that was visible and asked for a trash can just in case. One of the ladies gave us a piece of her mind — a very angry lecture about how we shouldn’t bring a drunk friend who wasn’t feeling well. We did agree with her point and apologized repeatedly. Afterwards, she mentioned about how the staff didn’t get paid enough to ‘deal with this bullshit’. I left an additional tip in the jar for their troubles and we promptly walked out the door when we got our two large pizza. Again, we were reminded that we were not welcome here because of our drunk friend. While waiting for our Über ride outside, another girl decided to barge out of the door and yell at us, demanding that we help clean up if we were just going to loiter outside. Keep in mind that we already cleaned up as best as we could at this point and were waiting to leave. I try not to leave 1 star reviews because it means something is terribly wrong. We’ve made this our last stop after 6th a few times in the past. I understand that it was 2:30AM and they were ready to close shop but these were the rudest staff I’ve had the misfortune of dealing with. Luckily for the staff here, we won’t be coming back.

Let me just say that you online ordering is the best online ordering I’ve ever used! I wish it had pictures of the food though. And at check out it said to leave tip but I thought they would bring a receipt for me to add that and sign but they did not. I felt bad that I stiffed the guy. You guys do such a great job! Thank you for being you!

I was meeting someone for a drink in the area, and needed a quick bite to eat so I headed here. Also, I really needed to go to the restroom… I was a little concerned because this is a pretty small establishment. A small counter with 6 or 8 total seats, but was pleased when I actually came to the restroom. Unisex restroom, and very clean, good start. I ordered my pizza slices before I went so they would be nice and heated for me when I finished. It wasn’t busy at all and I got my pizza immediately and was offered Parmesan cheese with it as well. The pizza itself was very good, like pizza usually is. Nothing incredibly unique about it, but I did enjoy watching the Spartans make the pizza. I observed then firsthand kneading the dough and putting sauce on it while I ate the pizza myself. I found that to be quite enjoyable and calming. Maybe it’s nice knowing that an actual human being made it. Other notes: parking is mainly street parking which can be easy or tough depending on what hours you choose to come. Frequent this area often enough and you’ll know where the parking nooks are.

My review on Spartan is mixed. I’m going to give it 4 stars based on the food alone. If I had to include the service, it would probably go down to 3 stars. Hopefully it was because it was Thanksgiving weekend and maybe short handed from their normal employees. There was one female employee that seemed to be the only 1 that knew what was going on. The guy working the counter appeared to be high as a kite with no clue what he was doing. The delivery guy puts his jacket on the food counter which should be a no no. When we got our food, the ingredients tasted fresh. I’m not really sure how to describe their style of pizza and it is hard for me to compare them to other pizzas as New York style pizza is typically what I go for. This is more gourmet style pizza with fancier toppings, but it was good.

Was pleasantly surprised while stopping in here on a Saturday night to grab a quick slice of pizza. Being an east coaster, I just expect to be disappointed with all of the pizza down here, so I ordered the Zeus, in the hopes that the toppings would overpower bad pizza. However, it wasn’t necessary, the pizza dough was decent, and the toppings only added onto the flavor. Of course I’m still not pumped that places down here charge over $ 3 for a slice that is half the size of what I’m used to, but it will suffice.

I’ve tried many different pizza places in Austin and this is definitely my favorite by far! There are a few things that really stick out when you visit: They really respect the ingredients they use. The best way I can describe this is that the flavors are enhanced, they make it so easy to savor your slice. And brownie points go to their use of fresh ingredients. You get your pizza fast when ordering by slices and they come out pipping hot. New York styled pizza done well, especially in the Austin scene. Good bang for your buck especially for the quality you’re getting. Ordering a whole pizza is an even better value. Super chill vibe, great for a casual outing with bar seating. Plus you get to watch the pizza making process! I’ve tried serval kinds of their pizzas and they’ve all been great. I honestly don’t think you could go wrong with any slice here. My personal favorite is the Zeus, you can never go wrong with bacon. :)

Good thin crust pizza to be found here. They seem to specialize in their specialty slices, so that’s what I went with. Slice was made fresh to order, and ingredients tasted quality. On my visit they seemed to have a pretty loyal following of locals, so I’m confident in saying this is a safe bet for good pizza.

Spartan Pizza takes artisanal to the next level by creating a completely new style– Austin style. When you approach the by the slice counter you will be reminded of New York style pizza with a thin crust and bubbly thick ribbing(the end of the crust), but don’t be fooled, this is way better. The owners are from New York(the only other acceptable form of pizza, sorry not sorry Chicagoans), but most importantly Jeremy and Nicole are pizza culinarians(yes, I make up words as I go along). They have thoughtfully cultivated their craft, starting with the crust, rolling through the fresh and local toppings, and culminating with the tangy sauce, and created a foodgasm for pizza. Now as I roam the streets of other cities I’ll be craving home(particularly while in California aka. The Pizza Desert). Spartan Pizza is not new and for those in the know the owners have capitalized on their cult-like food truck following to throw their hat into the restaurateur ring– lost a bet, masochistic? Probably. But we are ever so grateful. Located on the main drag a block and half east of 35, we you are met with a cozy and intimate space, just 10 seats. You sit sushi bar style so you can witness the magic. There are no frills here. The pizza comes out super fast. While you can order your own toppings, the pre-determined choices were all amazing too. The crust was crispy without a lick of char on the outside, soft in the middle. There is a slight yeasty quality that compliments the sauce and toppings but does not overpower. The sauce is tangy, but classical. Everything here is fresh made daily from the dough, to the marinara and pesto, and the Texas ketchup(ranch dressing), and you know that by taste alone. The pizza is super reasonably priced. You’re definitely getting a deal. The atmosphere is low key and non-pretensions and the staff and owners are super nice, quick to regale you with an origins story when prompted or to just talk food scene and Austin. There is only one prenamed veggie option(and it’s amazing too) but you can always choose your own toppings. There is beer on tap, wine for the ladies, and a fountain machine serving pink drink in the corner. They recycle. The appetizers that I tried were also delicious: jalapeño dip made from a super secret family recipe? Sign me up. Garlic cheese bread, OMG! I like that Nicole recognizes that you can find good queso all over, but dip for your next Super Bowl party? I’m ordering a jug from Spartan. They also have sandwiches which I did not sample sadly because I was gorged on pizza, but their sammies are made with fresh ciabatta. I watched them make a salad and it looked super fresh and delicious and was topped with good stuff like cranberries instead of the classical wilted romaine bottled ceasar that I’m accustomed to at you know, every other pizza joint. Basically this is now my favorite pizza place in Austin.

Anyone who has read my pizza reviews knows I’m pretty harsh when it comes to good pizza. I’m definitely a pizza snob. In Austin, I’ve resolved to actually treat pizza as a new food group so I can legitimately rate it as what it is here; different than what I grew up with and never as good. That being said, I can honestly say I didn’t have to do that with Spartan’s pizza. On a scale of 1 – 5 for Austin pizza, it’s hands down a 5. On my scale of comparing it to what I grew up with, it still scores a 4. Seriously, I have been searching for good pizza in Austin, and this place has it. I wish I had discovered this place 5 years ago when they first opened. I could have saved myself a lot of whining. LOL Jeremy and Nicole have created a uniquely Austin pizza. Their care to quality is astounding. Not only is the pizza really good, but the appetizers were also excellent. I started out with a plain cheese thin crust pizza. That’s how I judge a pie — apples to apples. Plus, plain cheese is my favorite. I was not disappointed. The crust was really thin, crispy, not over-cooked, and flavorful. The homemade marinara was really good and the cheese was nice and bubbly. Next, I tried the Perseus, which has cilantro pesto, sundried tomato, red onion, artichoke & feta cheese. I would order it without the onion, but that’s me. It was delicious. Their menu has a lot of unusual combinations, which make this place uniquely Austin. Weird in a good way, of course! Before pizza, I tried the jalapeño dip. Seriously, the best dip I’ve ever tried. I’m kicking myself for not taking home a bowl to go. It was spicy, creamy, flavorful without just being hot. And it’s Nicole’s mom’s secret recipe. Yum! The garlic bread was a pizza crust with garlic & melted cheese. I liked that as much as the pizza & would even be satisfied with that as a meal. Yes, it was THAT good! I will be back to this place for sure, and will recommend it to my friends. It doesn’t hurt that the owners are super cool and passionate about the quality of their product… super fun staff, too! The brick and mortar location is intimate with seating at a bar-like setting for around a dozen people. They serve beer & wine, also. Their food trailer will re-open at the Midway on 360 soon.
