First, the name has changed to «Jalapeño’s»!!! Don’t know why exactly but who cares. The food is still super fast, super tasty and super affordable. If you go for breakfast get the migas rancheras plate you won’t be sorry.

I’ve been heating here for the last 7 years I love it it’s cheap it’s quick it’s good and it’s convenient. I usually get the chicken fajitas and a Dr Pepper. I always get it to go. call it in with a pickup order. The staff is always super nice.

In keeping things local, I went to check out this place. My friends told me the lengua taco and Menudo were pretty good. It may seem a little pricey at 2.25 a taco, but they were pretty generous with the meat. The Menudo is a pretty big portion. ___ Later I went for dinner with my roommates. The appetizer sampler is so so. You definitely get a little bit of everything but nothing really jumped at me. The ceviche Tostada was the run away fav — pretty generous on the fish. Sweet with a little tartness. It was great! I noticed they got campechana — I need to try that sometime. I was kind of disappointed in their chicken mole enchiladas. The sauce was kind of dry. Not as sweet as I like it. The chicken was more in chunks than shredded. If I were to come back, just get a tostada or two. For 3.95 each, I thought I was stealing.

Realistically, I should probably only give it 4 stars based on food — but we love the awesome tiny-taqueria and cheap taco combo so much I have to give it 5 stars, because I’m not sure it would have the same vibe and cozy feel if it was a gourmet taco. You know what I mean? I wouldn’t change a thing. Great, cheap, fast tacos. I don’t know what else you want in life. Really. I even like a potato and egg taco from here. HOWDOYOUMAKE A POTATOANDEGGTACOSOTASTY??? WITCHCRAFT?

I heard that if you wanted a Civiche Tostada’s this was the place to go. I took some time and went to investigate this as I had seen an episode of No Reservation where Bourdain gets incredible Civiche Taco’s in mexico. I figure living in Austin I have at least some small chance of getting an incredible Civiche Tostada. The restaurant seemed nice enough, I like the small dining room and the atmosphere was very homey. The décor screamed mexico and no one could speak English very well. My chances of great Civiche Tostada’s seemed high! I tried to order the Civiche Tostada and they were out… Now this being the purpose for my visit I was of course a bit disappointed. I did however get a Shrimp Tostada that was so damn delicious I almost forgot that I didn’t get what I came here for. I’d like to go back. I hear the Civiche is great. I honestly cant wait to find out if all the hype is true!

Stopped in for the taco combination. Five tacos for $ 6.99 — how can you go wrong? Good chips, endless just-the-right-level-of-hotness salsa. Friendly service, but I do need to work on my Spanish(my fault, not theirs).

This is a little hole in the wall place but they have the best breakfast tacos I’ve tasted! Great price too! 3 for $ 3.00. I get sausage, egg and cheese on corn. Never been disappointed. Service is great too.

I am starting to think it is hard to find a bad Taqueria on the East Side. It was a really good meal, probably not great, but really good, and for the price and quantity that you receive it is hard to complain. I ordered three tacos but got the 6 mini taco special instead, as I have said before I don’t habla so well, so I think something was lost in translation. I think that is part of the fun of going to these places, so I didnt care. It gives me a reason to start watching telemundo at 3am so I can brush up on the language. Pastor was great, as was the Carnitas. Would happily go back.

I haven’t actually eaten here, but when it’s my coworker’s turn to bring breakfast tacos, she always gets them from here. They’re really good; they use queso instead of shredded cheese in their tacos. The bean and cheese tacos are awesome(I think they flavor their refried beans with bacon or something, so they’re definitely not vegetarian.) as well as the migas tacos. Their salsa is pretty solid, and their tortillas are delicious and handmade.

Why aren’t breakfast tacos a world wide staple food? This place is on my way to work and has a great 3 taco deal for $ 3. I stuff my face happily with all three.

The best taqueria in Austin by far! Me and my husband eat here at least once a week! We try something different every time and it’s always so good!

I have come to La Playa #2 fairly often in the past, although not that often any more. When I go, I always get two Ceviche tostadas. That’s the only thing I get here, because its the only thing they offer that I can’t get better some place else. The Ceviche tostada is definitely the way to go at a place named for the beach. The sides are inordinately expensive here, though. And, although the salsa is excellent with a kick, their chips are aaalways thick and stale, which is a total downer. La Playa is ceviche tostadas to me, and nothing else.

I’ve bought tacos for my office every few weeks since ’06 and Taqueria La Playa has become my favorite supplier, even though it’s not at all on my way to work. They don’t skimp on the amount of ingredients in each taco, their packaging is very office friendly, and the per-taco price is the cheapest in Austin. Taqueria La Playa’s location is also out-of-the-way enough that the Eastside’s gentrification hasn’t overrun it with hipsters… yet. Lunch is fast, tasty, and inexpensive, too.

I usually get the breakfast tacos here on a weekly basis. They have a special if you go before 9:00 a.m. you get 3 for $ 2.49. The migas taco is ok, but not typical of what you would expect. It’s more egg than tortilla strips and cheese, but still good. I also get the chicharron with nopal, I just love this taco it’s messy, but delicious. They have both a red salsa and a spicy creamy green one.

With a ton of Mexican restaurants on the East side it can be a bit daunting to find the«good stuff». This is more or less the Jalisco-style menu — although with more variety than the standard tacos/tortas/burritos/echiladas selections. On my last vist I tried the Beef fajita Burrito($ 3.69) — excellent tender beef. Great overall flavor(I recommend a quick squeeze of lime juice). Service was great and food arrived quickly. Can’t ask for more when you only have 30 minutes for lunch. Note — they only have 8 booths and 2 six-tops, so lunchtime rush could mean a short wait for a table. La Playa #2 is located in the former Taqueria Arandas spot near the corner of 7th and Spingdale
