Exceptionally nice bartenders, great atmosphere really nice crowd, delicious fries and burger with a nice assortment of beer. What more can one want on a cold January night! Maybe a brioche bun for the burger, just saying, altogether an awesome experience.

I’ve been here a few times and have always had a great experience. The food is great and the wait staff is too. I love that they put biscuits on the table instead of plain old bread. The menu is really diverse, and you can go for something sophisticated like salmon or choose a burger or chicken sandwich — they have a lot of options. They always have interesting specials as well. I’ve had salmon there and it’s so yummy. It comes with risotto and everything is always cooked perfectly. Their appetizers are delicious and they have small plates to choose from too. They have a great selection of beer. I always enjoy going to dinner at Horace and Sylvia’s.

I love coming here for a quality, quick dinner. Every time I’ve come here the dining room service has been very friendly and attentive. Unfortunately the other night it wasn’t the best, my boyfriend and I came early on in the evening and grabbed a seat at the bar. Drinks, apps and entrees. I usually get the same thing every time; lobster bisque, tuna crisps or shrimp&chorizo flatbread, which are always great. My boyfriend usually gets wings and a cheeseburger. The bartender got the wings right but the cheeseburger wrong which disappointed my boyfriend considering we eat here all the time. Hopefully in the future the bartender pays a little more attention to customers ordering something with meat temps and toppings. Still will be a loyal customer though!

This place has really gone downhill. It used to be great. The food is just not good. Thought last time was a fluke, but tonight I was served a greasy flavorless burger, and the ass end of fries… lucky to find one two inches long, and they were drenched in oil. The server was nice enough, but the hostess(es) were awful. The one that seemed to be in charge was rude, and not only did she just ignore people, she actually said«sure» pretending to be helpful, only to walk off and completely disregard her job. The other hostess(maybe training) just seemed flustered. And mainly concerned with her dress. I live in, and spend most of my time in Babylon. That is the last time I’ll set foot in their dining room. if I go back at all.

The gauntlet was thrown down and I was told that they make the best burger I’ll ever have, and of course I was extremely skeptical. I have to say, though, that they were right. They made a medium rare burger with sauteed mushrooms, onions, and gruyère cheese — unreal. On top of that, the rest of the menu looked amazing and I can’t wait to get back there to try the rest!

Went for restaurant week, so we expected it to be pretty busy. Which it was. They don’t take reservations during that time so we gave our phone number and went for a walk through the village, ended up grabbing a drink elsewhere while we waited. It was worth the wait. Their menu was large and everything sounded delicious. Had the calamari and tuna appetizers. Bacon wrapped pork and lamb entrees, the entrees were very large portions. They allowed me to change out the risotto for my lamb because I do not like mint. We devoured every bite! Then dessert was cheesecake and chocolate cake. Service was nice, it started getting quite crowded around 9pm when we were getting ready to leave. So at least we beat the bigger crowd and noise. We will def be back!

This is my favorite spot in town. Fabulous American cuisine. I don’t think I’ve had anything I didn’t like. Absolutely stellar beer selection to boot. 24 on tap at all times.

Was here this past Saturday night for a dinner out with my sister in law. They start you off with hot biscuits on the table. I had the Mahi with a sweet chili sauce and Edamame Risotto, it was awesome! Cooked perfectly and just enough heat from the chili sauce. My husband got the skirt steak and it was good, pretty standard. Same goes for the Sirloin. My sister in law got the seafood medley which was loaded with seafood. We also started with the truffle fries and those were fantastic too. The portion was huge and the fries were hand cut, crispy and delicious. Couldn’t stop eating them. Also highly recommend the Monkey Bread dessert, served with Yummy vanilla ice cream. Just request a table or booth in the back, the bar area has booths but on a Saturday night it’s pretty loud and crowded in the front. Overall great meal from start to finish.

I can’t believe I haven’t written a review for this place yet! I have been here at least a half dozen times with anywhere from 3 to 8 friends, usually for trivia night on Mondays. Pro tip: the bar area where trivia night happens gets super busy at least 30min prior to the start time. We usually meet up an hour before to get an actual table(there are 4 neighboring the bar area) and eat dinner instead of just beers and appetizers. The food here is incredible. Our trivia group has managed to order almost everything at this point and everything has been given a thumbs up. Particular favorites are the fig and Gruyère chicken, the pulled pork flat bread, and the Guinness tuna. We were less enthused about the French fry plates, but you couldn’t tell that by the empty plates! The tap list is great, with both good year-round standards and seasonal selections as well. But I would like to make a special shout-out to the seasonal cocktail list. The watermelon mojito this summer was out of this world delicious and dangerous. There is a huge municipal parking lot directly behind the building that is free after 6pm; I haven’t had trouble finding a spot there. And, if you go to trivia night, you can win free rounds of drinks, free appetizers, or the grand prize of a gift certificate for your next visit. Thank you H&S and Shipyard!

Horace and Sylvia’s is a cute little place close to Barrique in Babylon. You’d think their rustic décor would mean that their prices would be on the more modest side, but they are surprisingly pricey. I had the truffle mac n cheese, which was delicious. You do have the option for getting half bowl for less money. My bf had the Southern fried chicken, and that was just ok. The whole menu is homey comfort food, with a little seafood dishes thrown in. They have decent drink options, and offer some great crafts. There are definitely some dishes that look awesome and I’d come back to try them. The service was very spotty, however. We had to flag random people down to get the check and get more drinks, which I hate to do. So that’s why they only receive 3 stars from me.

Great local restaurant in Babylon, good happy hour deals, excellent Calamari and a real neighborhood feel. The food and service are great and its a no frills easy going environment. Definitely need to try more on the menu but the skirt steak sandwich was very good!

Love this quirky looking little place! Happy hour until 7 is a total win. Discounted drinks, with tons to choose from on tap, and a menu of $ 5 appetizers to choose from were a perfect choice to munch on. The capt’n crunch chicken, and flat bread pizza were excellent for sharing. Their full dinner menu looked like they had some interesting dishes to offer, so I’ll certainly be back to try that out next!

I thought the food here was excellent. My friends who I was with could have been happier, but they are both picky eaters. I had the chicken with fig and Gruyère. It was amazing! Highly recommended. Our service was great too. Our waitress was Val, as it said on the receipt. She was awesome and dealt with my friends pickiness very well. The wide beer selection made our dinner more enjoyable as we got a 6 beer flight, and we were very happy. I recommend the watermelon beer they have on tap for summer. Not too sweet, but very good. What I like about this restaurant is that after dinner you can hang out at the bar and enjoy yourself. Every time I’ve been here they’ve had live music. A very nice, cool bar that’s not too rowdy and loud. In the winter it’s a perfect scenerio because it’s annoying to walk around the village and try to find a bar in the freezing cold. Love it here, will come back soon.

My god. How awful. Granted this isn’t my crowd, but I came here on a Friday night, late. The cocktails were good, but the bar staff was rude to the point of amazement. They called last call at 1:45, and hovered around my table 10 minutes after telling my friends and I that we had to go. If you wanted to close you shouldn’t have served us! The real reason I’m writing this review; what pushed me over the edge, was racist and classist conversation being had by the bar staff and security. It was absolutely disgusting, and made my friends and I extremely uncomfortable. I will absolutely never come to this place again. I don’t care who you think you are, there is no justification for that kind of speech.

My god — what has happened to Horace and Sylvia’s? For years this has been my «go-to» place for casual dining in Babylon. Always a pleasant experience with good food, good prices, and an overall nice experience. But, my latest meal there was a disaster. Although our server was wonderful, the food we received was simply awful. Each course was worse than ever before. Fish and chips could have been a worst ever — way too much breading — soggy, and tasteless. Fries came in as one starchy lump. Biscuits served with dinner(which are usually excellent) tasted reheated. Need I go on? I really hope that the kitchen staff wakes up and starts to once again care about their product. With all of the fine dining options surrounding them, Horace and Sylvia’s could easily be forgotten.

Great food! First time here. The monkfish special was delish, the risotto with horseradish was unexpectedly tasty. Older vibe, kid friendly, lot of space.

Atmosphere is nice and cozy. As others have mentioned the bar area has a few different seating options and a fireplace. The bartenders were very friendly, really good service. They were on top of clearing glasses and keeping up with the bar orders which was great — they never fell behind on a busy night with a party. They get 5 stars :). The prices are a little high and the food is about average, so the overall is a solid 3/3.5. Definitely a good choice for grabbing some brews with some friends.

Umm, had some hits and misses here despite the awesome location and the general quaint décor of the place. All in all a great place to grab a drink with friends if you’re in the area. Recently came here for one of their beer dinners and was a little disappointed. For some reason on this night, the kitchen could not keep up with the flow of the dinner. Unfortunately, the service, food temperature, and quality suffered becauseof this. The delivery of the courses was discombobulated and kind of left us diners twiddling our thumbs. The only saving grace was that the servers kept our glasses full all the while — which, as a beer lover, made up for the lack luster cuisine — we got *shit faced*! Again, have been here a few times and have had some very good meals. Burgers are killer here! During the Fall they have Greenport Harbor Brewing Co.‘s Leaf Pile(served with a sugar/cinnamon rim)…SCORE!

We heart Horace and Sylvia’s. Our nickname for it is «Horace and Sylvie’s» I don’t know why, just sort of came about one day. Since moving to the area, we have been here several times. And when people come to visit, this is usually where we bring them. This spot can’t be beat for their lunch specials if you’re dining in. You can choose from a huge list of items that’ll cost you between $ 7-$ 10. We have had the burgers, buffalo chicken wrap, turkey burger, salads… the list goes on and on. All have been very good, very tasty. They do boast that all of their food is house-made. However, when I asked about the veggie burger, I was told that this is the only item that isn’t. My suggestion to H&S is that they create a house veggie burger. The only other caveat is that they up-charge for changing out the standard French fry side to something healthier, like asparagus. This will run you $ 2.50, and honestly — for almost three bucks I was hoping for something more that six small asparagus spears. They should double up on that serving. The service has always been pretty good, always friendly. In the many times we have been here, they did forget an app once — the mozzarella sticks that I was soooooo looking forward to trying. Was with the ‘rents and family, and they offered to bring it out… but we had already finished eating and were onto dessert. Well, my nephew was anyway — kids meals comes with a sundae! Which are made to be sharing with your Auntie Mandi! Sad face, we will have to order them another time. If you come here looking for a drink, and are partial to beer — expect them to just hand you a list if you ask«What do you have on tap?» because they have a lot… and it changes fairly often. And they’ll gladly let you sample anything you’d like. The bar area is nice, complete with comfy chairs and a fireplace which is awesome in the colder months to cozy up to. At each table/booth they have a little list of all the specials they have throughout the week, so definitely worth coming in here to check it out. They also recently posted a deal to Living Social, which we cashed in on last week. I got the salmon — it was pretty good, and something I’d definitely get again if it were on a special/promotional night(usual price — $ 22). Cute place in the village to grab a drink and a lunch bite.
